People keep asking you because you're clearly The Monstera Whisperer. It's official 😂
Yes I agree
Never thought Id end up in a youtube rabbit hole by just buying a cool looking plant from a grocery store

It’s so satisfying to reset plants. It makes me happy seeing people like you showing others that they don’t need to be afraid to change things up.
I’m definitely team one stem for a “pot” with these guys but I use tall vases and can place other plants in similar setups around them to create a fuller look. I also find the extra height to add more stability for anchoring the support
Speaking of support, yours looks amazing. Love that look.
My young Monstera plant died despite being careful on watering it. Am sad
@@habibaballa2934 - it can be difficult losing plants. Unlocking all the ways to make them happy and learning about troubleshooting is part of what makes this hobby interesting to me. That’s why I’m so grateful to channels like this.
When there are setbacks, I try to feel grateful for what I learned.
It isn’t mentioned a lot, but if a plant has great light and you’re meeting their other needs, pests are often part of the equation. I didn’t know my Monsteras had thrips until they had taken over.
I took most of the down to one leaf cuttings and isolated them for treatment. They’re growing back out now. The good thing is, Monsteras tend to take a reset well if you can made the hard decisions early enough. That’s not helpful now, I know. But it’s something to consider for next time.
If you own an aquarium, hang some air roots into the aquarium and watch the monstera grow like crazy. It will also help to keep your aquarium clean as it filters a lot of nitrates from the water.
Able to grow it entirely in the aquarium with fishes?
Not the entire plant, just the roots. @@youcaughtmyeyes
That knife😂😂.
I'm gonna need to see a picture of this is progress...
How so? Like just the aerial roots or like put it in the aquarium to root it?
Got a nearly 6 year old Monstera (Monty). Tried water propagating him this year as he is a beast! The cutting developed roots and was planted in soil two months ago. No sign of more growth yet but your video reassured me that it's normal 👍
I send your videos to everyone who wants a monstera. It has turned my monstera into such a lush happy plant. You do such an excellent job making the knowlede of how to take care of a monstera easy to understand and accessable. Thank you for making this channel and for sharing your wisdom. :D
Definitely think the water prop one looks better. Thanks Lee, looking fwd to more updates.
I literally just finished doing this to my giant monstera and see a notification for this video. One of my branches are reaching towards the floor so I'll have to cut that branch. This video is right on time.
This was exactly what I was looking for - advice with video footage to back up the two different approaches... so informative and well explained. And it clearly required weeks and weeks to gather the right footage. Thank you so much!
Hi Lee, Tena here. Keeping up the good work can be challenging as I experienced having recently started a plant channel myself, but with your awsome Monstera tips and tricks you always seem to deliver. I've been following a few plant pages and it seems that no one knows this plant more than you. Being very honest and raw makes the audience love your content even more. 🎉
Still my favorite plant TH-camr, another peak video! Can't wait to see more. Currently had an issue with a monstera dubia, so I chopped it up to propagate. I have so many new cuttings that are rooting! I learned how to propagate from you. Cheers mate! 😁
I repotted mine last year (albeit i think i repotted it too early and think it was on its way out) . I persevered with it amd this year its flourishing!
I love the same version as you. I recently purchased a baby Montsera and separated all of the stems in three different pots and one for me and the other two will be given as gift once a little bigger
The video I needed after impulse buying a bunch of monstera 🙌
I’ve planted mine in the garden in shade, it prefers out side and goes crazy, our summers are seriously hot, just make sure it’s plant near a tree for good shade
I really enjoy how you explain the topics well
Found this video at just the right time as I've been wracking my brain as to what to do with my "lemme grow in all directions" monstera that's also terribly rootbound - and I've got some time off coming up 😃
My first time seeing you and I am in the process of water propagating Monstera but didn’t know what I was doing. Your video is a perfect explanation of what to do and how to proceed and I am so excited that I found you or you found me. Lol. I am a new subscriber!
Welcome!
I found with my rescue I could also train the leaves to face forward with some help of some ribbon gently tied near the leaf neck and back to the pole. Along with a vertical grow light I was able to eventually release the ribbons and had a very "organized" looking monstera. But I also have some droopy, less hardy, less full looking leaves, that I think are what makes your re-arranged monstera example as reading less attractive.
Thanks!
Thank you so much. 🎉
Wow that monstera is beautiful. I just bought 3 from Etsy and can’t wait for them to grow and grow.
i pick the one with less in the pot, the leaves look more nourished & happy. i have a failure monstera inside & a nice one out on my porch. the one outside gets more sun. thanks for your valuable information...
I caved in and bought a $20 plant light for my indoor monstera that I turn on when I’m not home because it’s so bright, but that made all the difference and revived the dying plants. They’re busting more leafs and fenestrating them more. Good luck to you!
This guy is great ! Very informative, and interesting ! Now it's time to work on this monstera I have that seems to have overgrown overnight. My, this plant GROWS in just a medium-sized pot! No need to move to a larger pot than the one it's in. Time to get to work.
Thank you what an excellent video. I live in Scottsdale Arizona. We’re growing things outdoors is a challenge at present. I have a Monstera cutting sitting on my covered patio in water. It’s doing OK. I watched it very carefully and I can bring it in. We are just getting into the 90s here.
Oh wow I love how you used a birch tree limb for it to grow on. Beautiful idea.
Your explanations are really clear. Makes me want to run out and buy more monsteras!
I have watched maybe 40 videos about taking care of Monsteras... This is absolutely the best one.
Thank you for all the detail and thought process shared here. Sub for sure!
I just discovered you and this is great! My cats have beat up my monstera and I'm looking to rejuvenate it. I'm definitely going to follow your advice.
If you run the roots under a running tap it'll clear the soil and loose roots a lot quicker
I’ve been so nervous to repot mine, poor things have been in the same pot for a while and they are growing rampant. This video has given me a little courage to take on this task. Thank you for being so calm and informative.
Does it matter what time of year you repot one?
Usually if the leafs are bigger than the pot I will use a bigger pot. And it also gives more room for the pole and future roots. But it's very true, it's all about preferences:)

Omg I just found your Chanel. I have a monstera that I bought 3 months ago I am going to try your method and see how it grows lol. Thank u so much I am subbing right now because I do not want to have to search for u in case I have questions lol 🤣😂

@@KillThisPlant cool thanks
Man, this shows that it's best to start how you mean to go on. To fix these issues later does not look fun 😮
I think a sword might be a better way to remove some of the stems but to each their own. Definitely agree with water one being better, also reflects my same experience with avocados I have left in water longer vs the ones I put in soil as soon as they rooted.
As always, super helpful! Thank you.
Oh I’m excited I found you! About to search your channel for help with a birds of paradise as mine is NOT HAPPY 😂 she has brown angry edges. 😢
have two great videos on that!
I’m a new monstera plant parent and I love how you use unusual supports, especially the tree and birch branches? Where can I get unique plant supports to add the natural beauty to “Cleopatra” and “Ella”? Love your channel and all the tips and humor you add to your video’s❤😊, Jodi
Omg las nuevas monsteras le han quedado preciosas😍
Great video, thank you.
I'm at this point, my monstera is growing sidewards. I hadn't thought about cutting her into two plants, I just have two pots side by side with the new roots in the new pot but it's all one plant. She's a wild one.
I just got a new monstera, it was a shipped plant. When I got her she has some damaged leaves and a few are curled a little. Also there are some naaassstttyyy looking bottom leaves. How can I prune her to help her grow better? I left her in the pot she arrived in and gave her a good drink with a tiny bit of fertilizer. Over all she looks good I'm just a new momstera mommy and I'm trying to do the best for this lovely plant!! Thank you and stay blessed 🙌
I learned more thing about Monstera, Thank you so much your content ..Thank you so much again....Have a nice day...!!
you have a nice day too!
Thank you for sharing!
May God continue to bless you 🙏🏾
My poor Monstera 😩 I bought it a year ago in May. Kept it up pretty well. It needed to be repotted and then I got sick and haven’t been able to take care of it. It’s still alive but such a mess. I feel so bad, not sure I’ll ever be able to bring it back. Was thinking about taking it to a plant person or a gardening center and see if they can help me figure out what to do… see if I can save it. Anyone ever have a Monstera that looked like it was beyond help but came back?!
Mine was a disaster but i was really scared to cut it. I tried his air layering method to propagate it and it’s now looking much nicer and healthier. It’s definitely possible to revive a plant! But it’s also ok to give up and start fresh
@@FireDancingKira I’m so happy yours came back! Very encouraging to hear! I’m going to watch more of his videos and attempt to save mine. Thank you for taking the time and sharing ✨🤗🪴
You could always just GIVE it to a plant shop if they would be willing to mess with it, and you are not. At least it would get a second chance at living a good life. If MY old plant becomes too difficult for me, I was thinking I would do this. And perhaps start out fresh with a new plant and staking it properly from the get-go.
Well, you took plants of the same size and rearranged them. So yes, they still are the same size 4 month later. It might look more balanced when so take at least one smaller plants. 😅 Thanks for the wonderful video in any case! It must have been a lot of work to shoot and explain it so well. Thank you!
Thanks so much for ur help trying to get my monstera out of its pot the other day I had to cut it out of the pot itself it was tough but she’s out
That first one is absolutely insane. Where do you keep that thing lmao.
I love your videos so much. So helpful and clear to understand. ❤️
Thank you !! Love all the details
I learn a lot, thanks
A bit surprised you use little stones ( which I don't like ) and the pot are so small.
Total novice monstera lover… subscribed ❤
I must say, I prefer the water propped one! I have one I water propped after dropping the still juvenile mother plant, which WAS 5 babies. Seedlings I believe! Baby is doing better than Mama!
I bought one just kidding I bought two😂😂😂😂😂, I love this guy😊
I’ve been watching your videos and decided to separate my plant (too afraid to cut it 😂). I ended up with 3 plants… hopefully I did it right🥴
Sulfur works super well on my root rot! (Not on the root, on the stem. Don’t use it on the roots) It makes my finger painful though, so don’t use your bare hands to touch the sulfer powder
Hi! Love your channel! Could you post updated pics of the 2 plants please?
Great video, clear instructions ❤
First of all, love your videos. They are so simplified and yet educative.
I noticed every time you pot a plant/cuttings, your pot seems disproportionately small!! Is that on purpose? I have a fairly large 4 year old plant that I want to report....is it better to go with same sized pot or larger pot now that it's 4 yrs old? Pls advise.
i can't believe how small of a pot you used with all those starting roots
I like the fuller ones better, but this inspired me to get to my monsteras tomorrow.
U should wipe the leaves right away mines looks droopy but when I repotted it n cleaned off the leaves it perked right up right away ❤
Bro this was amazing thank you!
Do you have a video where I can see how much water to give it each week. I’m used to a snake plant where you barley water it
Great video!
Great video Bro
Amazing video!!! Thank you very much!
I was just given a very sick looking monstera obliqua, to try and revive it. It’s my first monstera. It appears that maybe the pot is too big, by looking at this video, do they prefer tighter space?
Edit: I scrolled comments and found a good answer. Thanks!
lol. my monstera has to get a trim every year before I can bring it in for winter. Im considering putting it on a pole. I was yesterdays years old when i learned i shouldve seperated it when I first got it from the box store
That was great!
4:58 the timing of that howl in the background 😆😅
I have a question, recently I had to remove all the leaves from my monstera because all the leaves were damaged from thrips and other pests and it was full of these spiderwebs. I left the base with roots still in the soil with a few nodes, I also took 2 bunches with a few nodes with aerial roots and places them in water. Will any of these regrow without any leaves at the moment?
Just the leaves or did you cut back the whole stem?
@@KillThisPlant removed the leaves one inch from the stalk, the base of the plant is still whole with 4-5 nodes and some Arial roots.
@@mooses44 new leaves won't grow from the leaves you cut. New leaves will continue to grow from the top of the plant only
@@KillThisPlant i threw the leaves out since they don't have nodes, but the the stalk is still in the ground
Our propagated monstera leaves grow so big and with lots of slits!! I
I know you mentioned Amanda the other day & wanted to lyk she’s back on TH-cam 😃 It’s called Doin it with Amanda, I believe.
I saw!
Tell us about the water you use to propagate the cuts, and watering in general. I would've thought a bigger pot would've been necessary. Shows how little I know. I def dont have a Green Thumb.
Love your stuff... I've had a monstera for probably five years now and she's growing outward (so I'm going to try this out some weekend in the future). One thing: It has a ton of those aerial roots, or whatever are used to attach to trees in the wild, are those OK to cut? They're all over the place.
ideally you'll want to redirect them into the soil, but yes they are ok to cut back if they're just in the aIr
Hello. What’s the best fertilizer for indoor monsteras? Thanks for all your tips!
it doesn't mater as much which you use, as long as you do it and follow the instructions so you dont over fertilize. I do have some fertilizer videos you can search on my channel.
🤩😍This is a great video! Thanks a million🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🕊☮️💚🙋🏻♀️
Good morning! I have a question! You appear to be a guru so I am hoping your sage advice can help. We had a hailstorm that damaged the leaves on my Monstera Deliciosa and Albo. Though the remaining leaves are tattered, actually shredded, they are still green. Do you suggest I cut off the leaves and allow new leaves or leave the plant alone?
I would just leave it.
@@KillThisPlant I appreciate you!
you r so passonate and ur videos are best i found ininternet ❤❤❤
I have a single leaf cutting that has finally grown a 2nd leaf! I put it in a small, clear pot so I could watch for roots, and this new leaf is the same size (more or less) and has one more fenestration (2 slits in the side instead of 1 lol).
It's already in a south facing window - should I up-pot it already, or just be patient? I brought it home in January.
When the pot is 70-90% full of roots you should go up a size
@@KillThisPlant patience it is, then! Thanks!
WHERE DID YOU GROWN IT? OUT SIDE BUT SHADE LIGHT OR INSIDE WITH GROW LIGHT?
Water props, 🏆
Can you use any stick found somewhere outdoors? I finally found the perfect spot for my monstera but after a lot of growth it looks like a jungle of mess. This was a great video to teach me how to fix that.
Not really. You have to prep it. I would suggest looking into aquarium channels and blogs to read about 'how to prepare wood/found wood for an aquarium" otherwise the stick may rot quite quickly. Different pieces of wood have different levels of rot resistance as well .
Do you recommend putting more than 2 cuttings in one pot? I have 4 2 in each pot. And they are pretty big. Similar to the larger one. In this video
It really is preference and what look you want. I personally like 2 per pot.
how come your plant doesn't ha e the full leaves, the leaves that without the cracks
I just bought a very leggy and bare monstera for 15. I want to save it but don't know where to start. 1 leaf per vine. But at least 5 separate in the same pot.
Hello dear friend. Can you tell me where do you get the logs you use for your plants?
@@diegohernandez9935 my local stores sell birch bark branches.
The large log I found by a lake.
@ thank you!
why the distance between 2 leafs in your monstera is so long? like 10-15cm, mine is only 3-5cm
The plant from the store was under low light.
Would you please explain why cutting off leaf, which hasn't died yet, will slow down the growth? I cut off one of lower leaves recently, I was convinced it'll take the energy wasted for that small leaf and direct it towards new growth:/
Example 1: the plant is in its pot in a closed system.
The leaves only job is to produce energy for the plant. Fewer leaves, less energy.
Example 2: the plant has been cut and it is water propagating (open system)
With a now small root system, the plant needs to work extra hard to move water from the roots to the stem and foliage. With too much foliage the plant will not be able to provide all the water it needs. The plant will start to kill off foliage in hopes to save the newest leaves. This is why it is important to propagate some plants with limited foliage.
How do you make the leaves so shiny?! 🤩 Is there a spray or something or is it just wiping?
I literally don't do anything. Maybe it's just the lighting.
Hello now what if you you only have had your plant almost 2 years?
What do I do about the roots that are coming out of the pot onto my floor?
