First the characters now the special items. I miss Double Dash more than ever ;-;
A Double Dash remake with choices of 1 or 2 characters would be fantastic. My only problem with the game is it is too bumpy. There have been so many times I have fallen off because the game thinks I jumped and does a tighter or looser turn (looking at you, Wario Colosseum and Rainbow Road)
Why is no one talking about the fact that only one character can get triple red shells, that’s a top tier special right there
Technically, yes, technically no triple red shells are an amazing item nowadays but the red shell system in double dash is glitchy and some maps Like Rainbow Rd., the red shell does not target properly
yup, all the speedrunners use Koopa and Paratroopa for this exact reason

Well, *three* characters if you count Petey Piranha & King Boo
4 characters can get 3 reds, paratroppa, Koopa, Boo and Petey

I definitely love double dash and wii the most I can’t decide between the two
I had Mario Kart double dash when I was little but my favorite one is Mario Katy ds, 8 deluxe, the tour, and the double dash.
The special items must return.
Also the Eggs were op as heck, free Mushrooms and Stars while at First Place, and wrecking havoc if thrown behind and it happened to have a Bob-Omb inside, while also setting Green Shells on the racetrack as if they were Bananas, and more!

Petey and king boo’s special item is just random special items.

Probably to reward the player for unlocking them by granting those characters the ability to have any item, making them over-powered.

Fun fact, at Double Dash Tournaments those two are actually banned from play because they're seriously broken.
They can get anybody's items, and although that sounds okay, it means they have their opponent's aces in any position.
Are they last? They can roll for chainchomp.
Are they somewhere in the middle? They can roll for the heart.
And don't forget, even if they're in the 2nd or 1st place they can roll Giant Banana or Bowser's Shell

They need to carry these over to the next new Mario kart if they make one
I remember my favorite combination for 150cc was always Baby Mario and Bowser Jr.
Not only because they're light weighted, but also if I fell behind, Baby Mario will help with the Chain Chomp to get some boost and then knocking out the racers ahead
If I'm ahead of the race, Bowser Jr. can still roll the Bowser Shell at 2nd or even 1st place to slow down the others

This recently happened while I was playing:
I think I was racing with peach and baby Mario and while in the race the Bowser behind me used his special, not knowing I already had Peach's special on me. And of course the Bowser shell "hit" me, I picked it up... And there I was... Carrying the shell of a fire breathing turtle that kidnapped me so much, I can't even read a magazine without a turtle breaking through my ceiling and "inviting" me to his castle....
That took longer than I expected...

The giant Bowser shell and the Chain Chomp are the most OP in my opinion
The golden mushroom is the real broken item imo, it's more useful and less risky than the chain chomp, and you can even get it while leading the race
The Eggs were crazy broken too, being able to get Mushrooms and Stars at any spot, even in first place, being a red shell itself, having a chance to spawn Wario’s special, setting Green Shells and Bananas on the road just like the Giant Banana, and they were not rare to get from the item roulette.
Hearts are as well... if someone hits you with almost any item, they can just take it.
DK''s Banana its also broken, you can get that item even in first place and continue screwing the other players behind you.

The Fire Flower item that's in the series now should act like the Fire Ball item from this game, it would prevent the constant spam during online races in MK8.
Yoshi and Toad are my favorite pair not just because they're two of my favorite characters but also because Toad has the best recovery item (imo) and you can use Yoshi's egg to get mushrooms and star power in first place if used strategically.
You know Snaking (So Dashing continusly) have the same effect as the Golden Mushroom .
Diddy and Paratroopa are better ,because they use the best kart of the game (Barrel Train) and they have the Big Banana ,which you get very frequently in 1st place ,which give an easy defense against red shells and the Triple Red Shells ,to help you f*ck an opponent if you are not in 1st place .
Well you play who you want ,you don't really need Big Banana since you can just dodge Red (and Blue) Shells with a Dash at the good moment . And don't need Triple Red Shells ,since with Snaking ,you are always faster than the AI/Human that don't Snake .

While I like Special Items, locking certain items to specific characters really limits your item selection to just ten items (unless you're playing as King Boo and Petey Piranha). Triple Shells and Golden Mushrooms are already normal items in previous installments, and Bob-ombs become normal items in the very next installment.
Man! I haven’t played Double Dash!!, but the special items sure are a fantastic addition to the gameplay. HOWEVER, it kinda sucks how the Golden Mushroom, Triple Shells, and Bob-ombs, which were available to everyone, are now considered “special”. Oh, well! They’re still fun! 🤩 And in the Bob-omb’s defence, it didn’t become its own item until MKDS! 😂😂😂
IMO I couldn’t careless if I wasn’t able to triplet shell’s or golden mushroom just because I didn’t pick Toad, Toadette, Koopa troopa, or Paratroopa. I still loved that it was only meant for them and the specials actually give’s you reason to try out different characters. Unlike today where everybody plays Waluigi and no other character exists on the roster.
They need to bring the items back and i use to love switching characters on the kart

@@ps2abbachio137 That's Wario and Waluigi. King Boo and Petey Piranha don't have a special item, however they can use any of the special items at random, including the Bob-omb.

My favorite special item is the yoshi egg and the birdo egg 🥚 because I loved when it breaks, it drops mushrooms 🍄 and stars ⭐️ and those are some convenient things except for the Koopa shells 🐚 and the bob bombs 💣

My favorite were the Bob-Ombs, the only Mario Kart game were Bob-Ombs can be obtained in first place, what a steal. I also love timing my placements as well. The giant bananas were great as well.

Tournament? Peach/Daisy + Yoshi/Birdo
Although Chain Chomp, Bowser Shell, Golden Mushroom and the Triple Red Shells are also usefull, they are only benefitial when you were at a lower spot. It's sad that I don't own Double Dash (yet) but have played it twice before in a local store when I was a kid. I have memories winning in Sherbet Land

We already have the Piranha Plant in the game (basically the same thing)
Mario and Luigi's special items would later be replace by the the sequal item fire flower from later installments, whereas Wario and Waluigi's bob omb items would be a staple item in later entries

They didn't have their own specials; instead they draw from all other characters' specials.

I love double dash, that was a real Mario kart with the old drifting and without the flying, driving underwater or walls crap.

I love the heart and chainchomp they r so op but my question is why r golden mushrooms, bob ombs, and triple shells tied to specific characters? And besides the golden mushroom and triple shells were in the past Mario kart games and EVERYONE can use them. So why tie them to specific characters now?
I used to play as toad just to get his special. Also, baby Mario & Luigi's special was my favorite. Otherwise, I was peach every time.

For some reason I can't get baby Mario and Luigi special when I was a kid
It seems a lot of people claim the hearts are very op or even contender for best special, but in practice they almost never end up being very useful. Maybe if you could get them when you’re near the front they would be great shields, but you only ever get them when you’re in the back. So it’s usually wasted on useless items that hit you

The most useless item is the egg
no it isn't, it shoots out mushrooms, bananas, red and green shells, stars, and bob-ombs a lot, so it helps a lot during races if you're careful and react quickly enough
I don't think so. The egg itself is a slightly worse red shell, but when it breaks it releases 3 random items. You can get a lot of free invincibility stars that way.
Lol definitely no, in Tour it IS crap, but in Double Dash it’s a GODSEND, it’s very op, especially in First Place with all the stuff you can get either to further your lead, set up traps, or even go berserk with the Stars, while also working well as an offensive item, especially with that Bob-Omb also being able to clean the area for you to safely rush through, you can get it often as heck, and it’s safer than say Bowser Shell or the Fireballs that can very easily backfire if you’re not careful.
