    It only amounts to 4 minutes, but it is some of the best acting Marilyn ever did. Completely vulnerable and heartbreaking. When she gets to the "Venezuelan oil" line at 2:35 with her voice clearly breaking, I tear up myself. Say what you will about her difficulties with this movie: with her director, co-stars, remembering lines- she could light up the screen just remembering a "most wonderful dream." The best single performance from Marilyn Monroe.

      most touching part of the film is when monroe on stage at the end singlng and clearly upset after being dumped, has josephine walk up to her and cuddle her and telling her no man is worth it, then he runs away and monroe realizes that josephine is indeed shell oil junior, then she gets to the boat and finds out its joe, who has been conning her all the time.

      It took her 86 tries to ask about the bourbon. They finally wrote it on a card and put it in a drawer. Almost the same when she knocked on the door. It didn't take as many times.

      It's because it was filmed in back and white, you mor0n.. completely different type of film (and both of those films are my favourite of all time, Ive watched them since I was 6 years old!!! Nothing compares to the comedy, cinematic arts and acting, and the music of gentleman prefer blondes, let alone the comedy of some like it Hot....

      @@doxasophosmoros The name calling though... Really? Some people look better in colored films. As a matter of fact, Monroe actually had a contract that stipulated all her movies be filmed in technicolor, yet Wilder talked them into filming this one in black and white.

    At 4:30
    It's something how Jack Lemmon has said they had to do 37 takes for Marilyn to deliver the lines "Where's that bourbon" and "I don't know. All of the sudden I'm thirsty."
    Marilyn didn't like the way she delivered those lines, so they did 37 takes until she finally got it.

    "Where's the bourbon?"
    MM and Wilder were having a battle of wills about a number of things, and it was coming to a head here. It was a throwaway line of dialogue that could've been easily dubbed in post, esp. with her back being turned, but Wilder refused to do it and MM refused to say it correctly for about 40 takes. They didn't get along, lol, and MM didn't like doing this movie. Beloved classic or not, she was unhappy at this time. She had a miscarriage during the making of it.

    • @proxkei2266
      @proxkei2266 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yeah Wilder opted to do the scene with her opening the cabinet and putting a paper inside with that line so that sho won't forget it

    This was one of her best scenes of her whole career , if u know about acting the toughest thing in acting is to transfer yourself from a comedy to drama and I guess that's why they gave her the Golden Globe Awards ( and yet they didn't give her an Oscar nomination and gave it to doris day for pillow talk : which was good performance but not at all as strong as Marilyn's performance)

    Anyone who thinks Marilyn was just "eye candy" and couldn't really act needs to watch this film. She was one of the most talented actresses we've ever had, and the film wouldn't be as great as it is without her.

    Marilyn required 40 takes to get "Where's that bourbon?". We can see that her hair is different, less curly, when she says this line. It took so much time ;-). But finally her acting is great.

    • @becky231
      @becky231 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @Flenif2247 apparently she kept getting it wrong, saying things like "where is the brandy" and stuff. Eventually the director wrote the line on a piece of paper and put it in the drawer so she could read it when she opened it. Then she kept opening the wrong drawer lol. In the final cut, when she says "where's that bourbon?" she has her back to us so she may not even have said the line in the scene and they may have added it afterwards lol

    • @becky231
      @becky231 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Flenif2247 why would she do it on purpose? Maybe..... If she had a huge issue with mentioning the word bourbon.... But I doubt it
