  • Hey folks! In this video, I'm going to show you all the parts that will be used to rebuild the suspension in the Basket Case BMW. I'm also going to explain the thought process behind the part selection.
BTW, here is a list of all the parts:
    - Coilovers from BC Racing (6k front / 12k rear spring rates)
    - Sway Bars from Whiteline (30mm front / 20mm rear)
    - FCABs (95A urethane) from Garagistic
    - Strut Tower Reinforcements from BMW
    - Front Sway Bar reinforcements from Morehead Speed Works
    - Toyota Camry RTABs (monoball) from Moog
    - Outer Rear Control Arm Bushings (monoball) from Meyle
    - Inner Rear Control Arm Bushings (urethane "black series") from Powerflex
    - Adjustable Rear Camber Arms from Maxpeedingrods
    - Rear Subframe Bushings (Delrin) from Garagistic
    - Rear Subframe Reinforcements from Turner Motorsport
    - Rear Diff Bushings (polyurethane) from IRP
    - Rear Diff seals from Corteco
    - Finned Rear Diff Cover from eBay

Hey guys! I made this video to answer any questions regarding which parts were used, or why I chose them. The suspension in the BMW was already worn out when I bought the car. So I never got to experience this car with a good suspension. But that's about to change! 😎

Thank you for explaining your setup so well

Thanks. Whenever someone asks about the suspension setup, I can just give them a link to the video. 😎

Nice! I have a lot of poly in my E46 (I am sure I mentioned before, but don't expect you to remember, lol) including some nice rear lower control arms that replaced the stock ones... the Poly subframe bushings definitely made the car feel more connected to the road from the driver's seat!

I remember you have an E46, but wasn't clear on the details. Your experiences with the urethane bushings are very encouraging. I can't wait to drive this car with a fully functional suspension!

I have a lot of poly in my E46 (I am sure I have mentioned, but don't expect you to remember...)... Pretty much all the same stuff (not all the same brands), including the nice rear LCAs that replace the weaker stock ones and... I have poly subframe bushings and from the driver seat you can certainly feel the connection to the road (for both better and worse) than before, lol... I did all the poly at once, so I can't say how much effect each bit had.

30 mm on the front is to stiff compared to rear you will encourage understeer

Nope. This is a suspension setup called "flat ride". Google it.

The rear is only about 5.5k at the rear wheels with a 12k spring so still quite a bit softer than the front...

I calculated the suspension frequencies at roughly 1.9Hz front and 2.0Hz rear. That puts it into "flat ride" territory, although just slightly.

Around how much this suspension setup cost?

    • @michaelblacktree
      @michaelblacktree  ปีที่แล้ว

It was around $3k altogether. But I took advantage of sales and promotions. For example, I got the FCABs for $30, in a closeout sale. And I saved money on the RTABs because I used Toyota parts. etc. But the coilovers were $1200 and the sway bars were $600. That's about 2/3 of the total cost right there.

I just hit a curb and my passenger front tire is completely fucked. Strut, control arm, steering knuckle almost everything :/

I just bought some cheap racelands 🤣 going with akgmotorsport for my bushings.

I'm not familiar with those brands. But hopefully it will work out for you.
