@@angrytater2456 actually I was pumping gas in 3rd grade and my dad loaned me the money for a brand new one. Evidently I did get it paid off. My dad was an amazing man. Later on he took me to get my first Yamaha MX, the YZ’s we’re just too much at that time. Times we will all never forget who lived in those wonderful times.
Talk about a blast from the past my first motorcycle I ever owned I'm 59 now when I was 14 my dad bought me I believe it was a 75 or 76 XL70 drove the wheels off that thing. It was a totally different world back then would ride it around in the street everywhere without ever getting in trouble. But that started the whole love of motorcycles which still enjoy to this day.
Nice little piece. I got a 78 XL 100 as soon as I turned fifteen to ride to my after school job... you could get a 100cc license at 15 in TX. Rode that little sucker all over. Earlier I learned to ride on my Dad's 73 CB 175 when I was 12. I thought it was a rocket. Godspeed!
We all had 50 when this bike came out. We all had to wait and then all the kids got 90s or 100s. All the little brother got XR 75 then. I lived in the country and everybody had a dirt bike. After the 100s we all go MX bikes. Most of us became successful racers. My neighbors were Jeff Glass, Gene Naumec, Jeff Leisk, Brian Swink and many racers stopping in for a few week. We had clothing and goggle reps with many sitting around the campfires at night. We had a track behind the houses. They were good times.
All my friends had SL 70's, my Dad bought me a '74 XR 75 !! They all hated me, I love these bikes! This was my dreams for sure too ! Still riding just about everyday Peace
I loved my red SL70, rode trails in the woods at the end of our street. I took the lights, mirrors, and front fender off to look more racey. My next bike was the Elsinore 125 in 74.
She's a diamond! Looks cool. Like the 350 scrambler. This is back when I was first into bikes. Always makes me smile to see a bike from this era. Great color too.
Coming up to Xmas , hopefully someone with deep pockets sees this vlog , and buys this little beauty for there child, if I had the coin , I would, it's hens teeth , Kaplan cycles is at the top of the game 👏👍✌
Kaplan cycles always has the best classic mini dirt bikes every time sir you melt my brain 1971 it looks brand new amazing Maniac Manny amazing man! Holy cow. Lots of work😮😮 Best in the business and the greatest people in the world
If not !?!?! 5:54 just for the marketing values and I don't know what , BUT I THINK THIS IS A COMMERCIAL FOR THE SHOP IN A WAY THAT IS NOT A NEGATIVE VALUED WORK ORDER 7:56 AND I ALSO KNOW THE SIZE OF THE SHOP ITS COMING OUT OF !!! LOVE THE PASSION OF THE COMPANY!!!!!! 9:03 THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!!
I want that bike so much! I paid $200 for my 72 ..It was the first bike with a clutch I owned..I was 9 years old...about 75or80 lbs..I jumped that bike 4 gear tapped 65ft..flat landing it day after day Lol😁 Ran like a top!
Looove this bike and paintjob. This little bike would be alot of fun to ride, although it looks too good to ride on the street or dirt. I'd keep it in a mancave instead. Manic Mechanic did an amazing job restoring this little beauty from the frame up.
My first motorcycle my dad bought me when I was 10 back in 1972. Mine was inmint condition. I rode that constantly for almost 3 years. I remember my friend bought a Kawasaki MC 90 2 stroke and my 1971 SL 70 would literally smoke him. Lol
Wow Mr Kaplan you put a lot of time and money into that bike but I remember them from my childhood a lot of guys had them when they were kids God bless you and hey man I noticed you're starting to get a little gray in the hair
All due respect the best in the West/World is Woody @ Virtuoso Racing Hayward CA.People Fly in Bikes or engines from all over the world He lives in Oakland Hills I think you can't recruit him though. He built a million dollar carburetor once formula One .
I often wondered about some of these bikes because we don't really see them before the restorations how much work goes into something like this. New this bike was probably retailing at 900$ back in the day. So what does a new 70cc or 80cc scooter cost today? 4,000$ 5,000$? Even at that your not breaking even I see your prices on some bikes and I wonder how you can offord to sell them at those prices? I've restored some dirtbikes and quads in my time of ridding and I know it's not cheap! By the time your done with a frame up your close too or over what a new one costs! For me it's the experience and looking at something I did then reap the rewards by ridding it and showing it off! Anyway love the videos! Love the bike!
Add 1 year and 30cc I spent alot of time on that bike. lol. I do really love the horizontal honda 70 90 110 and think atv had 125? They are bullet proof engine and so simple to get going again if sat for a decade. Not super fast but with h/l on us90 atc110 had enough power to go anywhere and with the horizontal design had awesome ground clearance and the atc200s stuck and they would still be able to just drive circles around it. light weight and clearance. lol Oh sorry I jumped gears and went atc but that sl70 engine will last forever im sure!
That must be what that motor was used for before that one piece body they had with that motor in in 1976ish. I've never seen that before, cool. Street legal! You didn't have to have insurance in most states.
It would have been quicker to say what parts were reused - everything sounds like it was replaced!!! Im surprised you can get parts like head and barrel for it.. Looks stunning.. Sometimes you just have to hang the expense..

Big guy on a little bike! 😂
Love those Honda 70’s we grew up on.
Yep! My first bike was a beat up Honda 70. I'm not sure the exact model. That engine would probably be still running if I kept it.

Cousin had one of these in the mid 1970s. Great times. Great memories.

1st real bike I learned how to ride on, yellow. Great little bike when I was 8 years old.
Right on!
I know why Jeff did this bike, cause in the 70's we all cut our teeth on these which led us all into the motorcycle enthusiasts we are today.
In 1971 where I lived all the cool kids had the SL 70, my dad was a N.C.O. so I was on a CT.🤭
