You and Brice took the words out of my mouth. I'm all about some color on the interior, you get to enjoy it every time you drive and it's not so boring like a sea of black. I love the Type R style red interiors on almost every color but blue. It's like driving Superman's underwear. I know you want the B18, but before you pull the trigger ask LHT about what they used to call the LS/Vtec or Frankenstein motor is like. it's a B20 block with Vtec head. I think they made 200 easy and had better torque from the 2 liter displacement. Still period correct. Full disclosure I was never a Honda guy so never had that first hand. I did work in the industry when all that stuff was current though.
Black carpet and red accents will look killer. I had a lot of red accents for my old EM1 back in the day. Black shift boot with red stitching, type R (OEM) shift knob which has a good feel and weight to it.
My best friend sold a 99 SI just about 2 years ago to a guy in jersey and the car has under 3,000 miles on it that was 100% completely stock for under 20 and he is kicking himself now. Still know where the car is.

I still have memories of taking the week before my last year of college in 2003 to head down to my buddy's house in Gulfport MS to take delivery of a B18C5 engine to drop into his 96 Civic hatchback. We used the overhead bridge crane (yes, bridge crane) he had in his garage to drop the engine in the car, and I did a lot of the wiring to get it running. That car RIPPED!
As someone who lives in Central Florida, I've heard a good bit about Obsessed Garage, but this is the first time I am really watching your videos. As a millennial, I am loving your humor and the attention to detail thus far early into the process. Look into recaro SR6 seats. I’ve got red ones. But they come in black too and would be so sick in there. I also don’t understand why people bring up older Honda’s being slow. 160hp from that car and 200hp from a 2.2 prelude being naturally aspirated was huge back then.

I'm simple give me black carpet, seats with a blue insert or stitching and possibly a blue inset on doors that closely matches exterior I'd be done. The inside of these are very plain and simple but it works.

I, like you don't love red and blue together (it is way too superman) but with the em1 the color combo is 👌🏽, no idea why I like it on that car and that car only. They put the red carpet in the yellow Dc2 type R and even red Recaro seats. Superman is better than Ronald McDonald, make the phone call my good man. Not sure if you have done it yet, but can you show a example of how you deal with love bugs. Spent 4 or 5 hours on the truck yesterday to see it get smashed today, it hurt..
Always start a project with the best example you can find regardless of the project unless it’s going to be a demolition derby car...period. Anybody with money or good credit can by a new car. Try finding a perfect example of an old one. That’s why they are worth what you are willing to pay. Awesome car.

Obsessed Garage well I have been out of the game for quite some time. I had some JUN stage 3 cams, TODA Cam Gears, ITR springs, Skunk2 Titanium Retainers, head work, Rollerwave Pistons from ENDYN, skunk2 intake manifold, SPOON 4-1 header and a few other odds and ends. With tuning on the stand alone my 1.6 was pushing 197 WHP at 9,200 RPMs.
20-year-old me would kick my 40-year-old ass yup completely agree with you Matt, The one other thing that you probably haven’t thought of about this car is it begs you to beat the shit out of it you have to work to get some really good results out of the car and every car I’ve ever driven like the civic is the same way you have to work to get this car to “dance”
Civic Type R carpet is nice. but what bugs me is that it is for RHD. You can visibly see the carpet cut out for the gas lid / trunk release on the opposite side.
Don't worry about the purists, you are putting the best of the bets parts on this car. It's not like it was already 100% original when you bought it anyway. Personally I would keep the interior black, with black carpet, make it modern and mature. If you end up doing the Type R red, get some Type R emblems for the outside and paint a big superman logo on the hood. Just my opinion, since you asked :)
Once you decided to keep the original engine with the car my respect for you want way up. The way your building the car is exactly how I'd do it and pretty much tried to do before it was stolen from my college campus. Keep the black interior with some red accents and the spoiler too.
Don't know if the red type r Civic carpet with fit in the em1. They could be the same size from rear set to firewall. If you looking for Spoon I know art of attack gets jdm stuff.
Really surprised you're not looking at getting a Mugen twin-loop exhaust. Also Blox I think is more of a "ricer" brand, like their suspension stuff is regarded as some of the rebadged Chinese made junk.
Maybe it’s just me being OCD, but if you start mixing a ton of different manufacturers, it’d drive me nuts. For example, co-mingling a Toda header with a Mugen exhaust. Or Spoon calipers with Project Mu rotors. Manufacturer symmetry is a real thing, isn’t it?

All the ek9 parts come with black plastics, so the clash of grey and black if you were to get anything that had plastic on it? idk... I'd go for the Ek4 sir / vti to us in the UK stuff as they have black carpets and confetti seats etc... The grey plastics from your si would easily swap over onto the confetti seats.

Not ruined but i understand the argument of touching a factory fresh 20k miles that you won't probably find anymore in this condition. Even if it's not an expensive car, i think it's the principle of modding on a rare car. In this case, i don't care about civics. I own an e30 and i'm passionate about it. I wouldn't agree on engine swapping a 325i mtech1 with no rust and 80k miles, let alone 20k miles. That's just an opinion. Anyone can do the heck they want. I think it's good to keep these pieces of history as they were from the factory. I don't think Matt is doing this wrong, i believe he wanted nice paint and rubber, and untouched. Does the 20k miles matter ? No because he is going to change pretty much everything, engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, interior. I might agree on taking the wing off, it looks better without it, but it wouldn't be a SI looks then. At this point, i'm not sure if it matter lol.

A low mileage stock example of any niche car will always be worth more than a modified one. Simple as that.
