tbh i still ride it. i rode it as a beginner bike a few years ago. it is a good bikke although the torque is quite powerfull despite what its meant for
Idk what I like more, watching the bikes or watching Chris, my favourite reviewer .. 🔥🔥❤️ but between these two though the hypermotard is more my type. .
I gave myself the Hypermotard SP for my birthday this past May and I have to say, that even within the Ducati range, it has the personality of a rambunctious puppy. Yes, the seating position drapes your nads onto the fuel tank and the field of view is that of a hood ornament, so it does require some getting used to. Lots of torque! Also; you did a review of the 950 SP sometime back and it aided in my decision to go with the 950 SP. Thanks for all your reviews Chris.
It’s not even comparable to the Ducati. How can you take a video seriously that says “Yamaha tried to move the mt-09 away from its supermoto roots?” There is literally nothing supermoto about an mt-09, of any model year. As an ex owner of both, there is NO comparison.
Great video. I always wanted a Hypermotard. Been drooling over them since the concept model. Bought an XSR900 instead about 4 years ago. It was just too much value. I don't regret it.
I’m an average ability rider and I’d say, having done test rides on both the MT (prev version) and the Hyper, that the MT is a much easier bike to ride and therefore gives a lot more confidence. And the newer MT even more so. For a pro, the Ducati would prob be more fun.
Did a testride on a Hyper and when I came back my wife said she can't remember when was the last time I had such a wide grin on my face. She basically forced me to order one for the next season.
I have 4 Ohlins equipped bikes and got the RVE because it looked crazy and I told myself “it’s not like I’ll ever take it to the track”. I did. It kicked ass. If the SP can kick more ass in the case you do track it after you tell yourself you’re not going to, you should go that route.
I bought a new 2016 mt09 put a full race akra exhaust on it and it was f***ing insane! The power and torque would keep the front wheel just kissing the road,a real nutters bike Dam I must get another!
Since we spend imaginary money I would go for Ducati SP. And since a bicycle is in the garage most of the time, I would get a fireproof window between the garage and the living room. And enjoyed the sight of the SP every day all year round!😱
been looking at a previous gen MT09 and a 939 sp hypermotard used as a second bike. It really is head vs heart, i've owned Ducati's and they are special, and you pay for it. On the flip side the Yamaha is nearly as wild, but will never let you down and sounds amazing in its own way. Spoiled for choice really.
Glad to see your thoughts on these. I’m a happy Hypermotard 950 SP owner. And a Tracer GT owner which is not too far from the MT-09 engine wise. My experience…. The Ducati is hard. The day after riding the Hypermotard, i have backpain. I don’t have this on the Yamaha. Admittedly i have a small back/hip issue. Just saying…. The clutch on the 2020 Hypermotard is worse then on the Yam. I’m sometimes somewhere in the middle of two gears…. The Hypermotard 2021 has a revised clutch so probably much of these issues have been solved. Two other things…. The Ducati does not have a fuel indicator. And no cruise control. The first one i don’t get…. The second one…. Well, i kinda understand the concept…. But most people travel 100 km first before starting their playfull journey…. And a cruise control is superhandy on the highway to unstress your right hand after a 400 km twist and turn…. After all, Ducati added self dimming indicators…. Why not a cruise control…? It’s expensive enough…
The Tracer 9 is SEVENTY pounds heavier than MT! I own one and stuggle to keep pace with ligher bikes and flat get left for dead by the knee draggers. My guess is my fun factor will increase significantly with MT09SP since over half my riding is fast twisties ...thinking I will keep the tracer 9gt for the other half (all day rides "sport touring" southern ca awesom curvy routes where some wind protection and stability really do add to comfort! Not to mention extra fuel capicity and heated grips plusher suspension wit one minute of fiddling etc...or really 2 seconds if no luggage simply switching to A2 mode Also with the MTSP I wont feel wasteful mounting trackday tires like I WOULD with Tracer! Which even high end sport touring tires I never see more than 3500ish miles to the wear bars in the rear...Q5s or S22s would be long gone at 1500miles riding fast on the heavy bike!
Brilliant video as always Chris. If I had the money I would take the awesome looking rve or the sp. The Yam in comparison looks dull and plain (although to ride it certainly is not). The fit and finish on the Duc is also in a different league. I just wish Yamaha would design the Mt series to look sleeker and more desirable.
bikes like this "looks" LOL how much and WHY would that even be of much importance? Impressing WHO? Ducati fanboys? Neither one is impressive to the general public they are both optically wierdos to all those outside the know
I couldn't agree more. I own a Hyper and the throttle IS a mare, but when those roads open up, I'm glad I have my gorgeous Ducati. Driving under 40 is a nightmare.
Interesting I have the Hyper 950SP 2019, has the 939SP previously and love the mm both. I rode my brothers MT09 for a few months and thought it would make a great fun commuter.
I never thought of the MT series as hyper motards at all. I always though they were hyper naked bikes. For this comparison however I couldn’t of thought of such a decent bike to compare it to, solid choice.
Love the country lanes footage. If that were me, I'd be avoiding all the gravel and debris in the centre like the plague - Chris heads straight for it! Kudos! By the way, are you planning any comparison tests with the new Monster?
Have you sat on one before? If not don't rule it out!! I'm 5'8 with a 29-30" inseam. The mt09 is comfortable, like, perfect for our size. I can flat foot easy. That said, I had a 690 supermoto with a 35" seat. It just requires a different stance. One foot on pegs and slide a cheek off the seat at a stop and you can get a solid foot on the ground. If you're not comfortable with that then the mt09 all the way, but I reccomend sitting on both and seeing how you feel. Everybody is different.
Why not compare mt09sp with monster+, this naked vs supermoto that cost 5k more for a base model doesn’t seem like something that someone thinking of either would consider the other no?
The only other big Supermoto was the Aprilia Dorsoduro 900. Sadly just discontinued due to Aprilia not bothering to make it Euro5. I was in the market for a Hyper but ended up the Aprilia instead. Every bit as good in the real World as the Hyper after losing that bloody great stock exhaust. Unfortunately if you buy on published specs (hint: they are a lie) you would go for the Ducati every time. I still desire a 950 SP but the jump up in price means I could probably put a late low mileage MT-09 in the garage, keeping the Dorsoduro and change. Choices, choices....
Ducati tells some WHOPPERS with their "dry weight" claims! If you compare TRUE wet weight minus fuel weight they are exposed as HUGE liars ....My guess is they subtract wight EVERY drop of liquid including coolant battery gel suspension oil brake fluid and likely every hint of grease! Used to be unscrupolous marketers omitted ALL "consumables" from weight which might include battery and tires even! Japanese companies take a higher road these days. But to ME? If you cant trust a manufacturer in one area? Why ANY area> Will they REALLY honor warranty claims? Or will they look for any reason to DENY??
I always liked the Dorsoduro, they made a 1200 as well briefly with 130hp but I never saw one. I ended up buying the third forgotten option, the MV Agusta Rivale. Such a fun bike.
@Bike World would you be able to get a royal enfield interceptor 650 and put dirt tires on it and review it as a scrambler theirs tons of people doing it world wide but they never take it off road properly
It’s funny how torn I am between the 2022 mt 09 sp vs a 2019 Ducati hypermotard base I did find a guy that was selling his hypermotard tune decay exhaust the works with 325 miles for 13k though so tough thoughts
I’m getting the 2022 MT09 SP I hope It has better colour and and looks better slightly 😂 I really can’t wait it’s going to be my fist big bike after ride a 125cc scooter since summer 2017 on L plates
The Ducati will likely be more costly to own and in the U.S. depending on where you live, it probably be harder to get parts that will be a big consideration for most sensible consumers outside the UK
I have a 2016 hypermotard with 1200 miles on it. It spent 7 of the last 12 months in 3 different dealerships. Electrical problems with the can lines getting damaged taking out the dash or the ecm. Is a common problem with several models.
I didnt get the sp because you don't need a cruise controll on hyper naked and when your riding it your not being lazy it forces you to ride it like how it should
It's not a naked it's a hyper motard the bikes are totally different they shouldn't even compare them to each other ,the Mt 09 is a hyper naked class not a motard at all
From a tech standpoint the MT09 is such a better bike! More power AND significantly lighter! There is even some wiggle room in price difference to do some further upgrades to the Yamaha before the price balances out AND if you compare SP to SP there is a LOT of cash left on the taple to REALLY upgrade the Yamaha! Enough to say swap to full on magnesium forged wheels or something more frivilous like a tune and full titanium exhaust with a coupld years free fuel left over!. I am guessing on most tracks a stock MT09 SP will blow away a Hypermtard just based on power? Maybe not on Supermoto track but then again on those tracks a lighter supermoto might dust the hypermotard with for me is all academic as I have zero intent for such courses
I own the SP here in USA, and it is exquisite! My prior bike was a 2014, 1st year FZ-09, and the new SP is a huge leap above.
tbh i still ride it. i rode it as a beginner bike a few years ago. it is a good bikke although the torque is quite powerfull despite what its meant for

Seeing the mt09 compared to the hypermotard, just shows how good of a bike it is.
This is a trick statement isn't it.
Not really. It's the Hyper's only competitor
It really is a bad ass Beast!!
Mt09 has become an important part in the motorcycle world, that crossplane engine has that kind of pulse..
It’s not even comparable to the Ducati. How can you take a video seriously that says “Yamaha tried to move the mt-09 away from its supermoto roots?” There is literally nothing supermoto about an mt-09, of any model year.
As an ex owner of both, there is NO comparison.
That Hypermotard being ridden like that.........😍 Absolutely love it. Keep 'em coming Chris! 👊😜
purchased a 2015 Hypermotard SP because of this great video! helped me narrow down my purchase
Nice!
Great video. I always wanted a Hypermotard. Been drooling over them since the concept model. Bought an XSR900 instead about 4 years ago. It was just too much value. I don't regret it.
The xsr 900 is a top bike.. for me, with another suspensions, the best bike for the money
Sad Yamaha does not do an SP for the XSR also! That an add a frame mounted cafe fairing and I would SO be in line to buy one!!
This is one of the most honest reviews .. awesome
Unexpected comparison, but when you think of it for a second, it makes a lot of sense.
I’m an average ability rider and I’d say, having done test rides on both the MT (prev version) and the Hyper, that the MT is a much easier bike to ride and therefore gives a lot more confidence. And the newer MT even more so. For a pro, the Ducati would prob be more fun.

Who wouldn't?
And the F900R.

Outstanding review. I love my '20 Hypermotard for curvy roads - guaranteed more smiles per mile, but it's an unpleasant mount on the freeway.

The Yamaha will outlast the Ducati

Too true, good comparison. Hyper is also good in congestion, footpaths, parks or any shortcut.
My ultimate dream is to ride a Ducati one day.
How does the 950 compare to the old 1100?
Ordered a 2022 hypermotard 950 with QS. Can't wait. Didn't go for SP as I ain't doing track.
Love the country lanes footage. If that were me, I'd be avoiding all the gravel and debris in the centre like the plague - Chris heads straight for it! Kudos! By the way, are you planning any comparison tests with the new Monster?
dirt bike mentality makes that doable. especially with tire choice and lower pressures
When I saw the MT 09 in the air at 3:59 !!! Crazy!
Can you do a comparison the 890 duke R vs The MT09 SP??
Chris the O.G.....insightful review as always.
1100 Hyper, 50k km on the clock, love it!
love the bike drop in the intro reel, feels good man lmao
My Hypo RVE is on order can’t wait. This will be my 3rd Duke. Just a class motorcycle.
Congratulations 👏
Is that RVE model available by order only? I have never seen one at a dealership here in the states, they only seem to have the base and SP models.
@@johnridesadv2512 here in Australia they are in the dealerships.
Would have been nice to have the 701/690 involved and then the duke 890 too. PLAYTIME BIKES.

Since I love being on the road and not the workshop I think I will pick the MT-09.

Hey Chris, what happened to the detailed review on ftr
please between this bike and the Yamaha mt09 sp 2022 for street riding, which is better?
I'm 5'8 - too short for the Motard. Motard looks like it has more raw, gritty power delivery. Does the Yamaha cater better for shorter riders?
Youre taller than me!

So what kind of pup is that?
Answer this question please Chris!! Whats sorta hoond is he?
Awesome riding on the Ducati! balls of steel.
Can you please compare street triple rs and hypermotard 950 sp.
I would love to see a cb500f or mt07 or both just get hooned around on like these two bikes went through.
I would love to own a Ducati, but Japanese motorcycles are just so damn good....

About to pull the trigger on the RVE and so I’m biased - to me there’s no question!! Brother Had an R1 and loved it but yams plastic in comparison !
It’s a great bike, we did see an SP the other day though. 😳
The hyper is so much fun to ride.
Better comparison would have been the new monster 937 vs the MT09 SP
Why not compare mt09sp with monster+, this naked vs supermoto that cost 5k more for a base model doesn’t seem like something that someone thinking of either would consider the other no?
