Hi, and greetings from Portugal. I also have a 2021 MT09-SP (my first bike) and I like it a lot. I'm writing just to explain you how you can fix the blinkers when they go out of the socket (I had the same problem...). You simply pull the blinker out moving it up and down simultaneously until it fits again. This is basically a system to avoid damaging the blinkers if you hit something. Since I'm at this, I will aso add that the quick-shifter (system used to automatically shift the gears up) is really amazing. Just one caveat: it does not work well in first gear, just 2nd gear and beyond. In addition, the engine must be revving at at least 2500-3000 rpm. Just give a touch upward in the pedal *keeping the throttle open, as is*. When you shift down you should do the opposite: give a touch down in the pedal *with the throttle fully closed*. In both cases, do no touch the clutch. Regards and ride safely. José
I really liked your review, the 09's are priced accordingly because they come with better components compared to the 07. I own a FZ07 and don't feel offended by hearing it feels cheap compared to bikes that cost 3- 4 thousand dollars more. That gap can be closed a considerable amount if some of those savings were reinvested in the suspension. I like them all myself.
I just got a 2021 MT 07, it's the best bike I've ever owned. Soooo light and maneuverable. I think all the MTs look so cool, each one's like a different transformer. Can't wait to move up to a MT 09!!!
Great video on the MT09 SP Doodle. Can't wait to get one sometime this year. Soon as my gf feels she's ready to move up from her MT03 to the MT07. I'm buying the MT09 SP that very day. The upgrades over the standard MT09 are completely worth the extra $1600 or so.
I just recently sold my 2017 MT-09, loved the bike, but changing priorities. Such a fun engine, good combo between the torque of a twin, and the revs of a quad.
4:44 Don't focus on moving the filling gun away from the tank, instead focus on lifting the tip up so that it's vertical. This way, even if you do it extremely slow, droplets either go back into the nozzle or run down the metal pipe part and land on the rubber ring thingy. When it's vertical you can move it away safely. And another free but unrelated tip: This might sound cheap (pejorative) but there's a ton of fuel you paid for still in the hose. Draining it every time I fill my cheap (ameliorative) MT07 saves me about 20% gas money. Tested. Literally. With spreadsheet and everything.
The MT-09 and bikes in the 1 liter + sport category share a powerband that is essentially two tiered. Tier one you ride under 7000 rpm, around town, on highways, twisties, etc. in a casual manner. The under 7K tier easily gets the job done for every type of day to day riding, including more spirited riding as well. Tier two is the world above 7000 where most fear to go and where the naturally daring want to be all the time. This isn't a review on tier two and I'm glad it isn't. Many times people watch a review and it's some hooligan dragging knee and wheelying out of corners. I like that Doodle highlights the practical stuff over things like lean angle. I have to admit that I did get a change to wring out an MT-09 not too long ago and I can say, the quickshifter is awesome for doing those really nice 3-4 gear long wheelies. Plenty flickable for the twisties too :)
Replying to a two year old post, heh. This is super interesting, I've never heard this before. I have a 2023 MT 09 SP and to give you an idea of what kind of rider I am, I have lift control on. To your RPM point, I definitely ride the majority of my time under 5k, and do it with a huge smile on my face. The screen starts blinking at me if I go above 6k-ish+, but it redlines at 11.5k. It never made sense to me why it starts giving a visual indicator at just over half of what it's capable of. But even in 6th gear, I rarely have to shift down to do a quick acceleration to pass, it just launches, every time, every gear, every RPM. I love it.
I’ve never ridden a sport bike (goals) but I’m all about the aesthetics and I have to say, that bike is ridiculously good looking 🥰 I especially love the hidden exhaust. Great review 👏
Excellent review for shorter riders. You have a great way of providing useful information in a friendly, but knowledgeable way. I really like your videos. Thanks, peace.
Had mine since mid-last year after many delays. It's been a DREAM and my reason for hating winter. Upgrades have been easy, but keep debating the exhaust because love how it is hidden underneath, but it is rather quiet. Do not regret buying it at all and it has become my main ride whenever don't need the car.
@nabahmadi5012 I haven't, sadly. It's always on my mind to do, but am too indecisive on which one and honestly like how the exhaust looks underneath. If I ever get to it I'll try and post an update reply!
I have a 6 year old honda motorcycle but I don't ride, because when I was I always fall, watching your video cheers me up, you are very persistent, I'm 161 tall.
For turn signal, it's common for mt-09 and it's little flimsy to prevent from breaking. Take the rubber part out from end of the turn signal, pull it out all the way and reattach the rubber piece back into it and put it back in.
Interesting vid, carolyn. I always tell new riders, it's very important to get a bike that fits you. The "fit" is not so much in how well you can flat foot the bike, but more importantly how comfortable your legs and knees are when your foot are on the pegs. Anyway, ride safe, god bless u.
I had a 05 FZ1 and loved that I could take it to work and then take it to the mountains on the weekends. This is a nice 👍🏼 looking bike! Keep up the good work. Ride Safe

Ms. Doodle - first Happy New Year. Its a few min's in. I wanted to note two things, if not three - 1- when the Honda 50 came out it was originally for smaller people. I other words, the Japanese. In fact, I lost touch after they started build heavies, but most before were for people maybe 5'5" ot so - 2- For Yamaha, or anyone of them, i left a note on instagram asking when do they feel they will start making adjustable seats. ( Duh? ) 3- They who are smart enough to listen to their consumer voices will be the leaders in the market - Simply Ms. Doodle, there is no reason why bikes should also not fit you !
This hasn't necessarily been my experience with the bike over the last two years, but this review still seems very good and thorough. There may be more differences between my base model and SP than I thought! I'm still glad you have loved this Yamaha as much as I have though. Let's see some mountain riding footage!
I've had 2 orders for this bike open for over 7 months and Yamaha's best ETA is still another 5 months away. Very jealous that you get to ride this in Georgia!
5'6" with 31" inseam, have been riding a MT07 and 17 MT09 for a while. Have to say that the refresh looks awesome, and I really wish the SP was around when I picked up the '09 because the suspension on the '17 leaves a lot to be desired. The cheapest cartridge / shock kit totals around ~1.8K USD so the SP is a GREAT deal. The MT07 and MT09 are great, fun bikes. Miss the exhaust note of the 07.
@@A_Pt_9298 my girlfriend rides on her own bike. I don't have any issues with the seat, given my weight of ~150lbs with gear on, but I'm also not doing any long riding. It's definitely a lot more comfortable than my R6.
I'm with you, I have the 17, the suspension became OK when I adjusted it properly instead of the dealer settings where it was all over the place. Looking at this 2021, the front end and exhaust look so much worse!
@@psmith6166 I love the look of the akra exhaust, reminds me of something that'd be on a newer R1. Although I do wish there was a dual-rear exhaust like on the ~09-11 R1s
The MT-09 is a really light bike for its engine size and you can definitely feel that lack of weight, just sitting on one in the dealership (just last week). The rider position feels really great too. I was smiling looking down at the tank because it does look ridiculously wide but that is part of the brilliance of this bike. I have to wonder if Doodle ever got the chance to run that engine in the upper rpm ranges because the MT-09 is said to be an absolute rocket ship. Great review from Doodle and what an amazingly light motorcycle from Yamaha. Very impressive.
I currently have a 9 GT tracer. It is a true Swiss Army knife as I use it both for commuting and for crossing Europe with great comfort. the CP3 is a colossus from 7000 RPM onwards the music is addictive, it turns into an R
Thank you for nice review, I got MT-09 since spring 2021 and I really love it. I also popped out right front turn indicator twice. If you want to put it back, its easier first take out light from rubber "outer" part. Than fit outer part in and than push trun light it. Its a bit tricky for the first time, but once you do that, its easy "-)
Petrol fill-up at 4:46 - hilarious! :D I hope you didn't splash it on your face, though... Nice video, Doodle! :) What an interesting bike with that exhaust under it...
Hi Doodle, this is a nice informative review, and I notice how easily you are walking it around which is so good to see and probably a huge factor for smaller riders to consider! I'm guessing your recent road trips with the heavy Harley's has to be increasing your confidence and maybe your stamina too!
Well, for those of us who remember the early days, when you had problems with dropping your Bonneville and feeling like you had to get rid of it, it’s really impressive what a confident and skilled rider you’ve become! 😊
Primarily you ride your bike. But It has to look good too. Someone said "When you are walking away from you parked bike without turning and looking at it, you bought the wrong bike". Totally true. I can sit in front of my bike and look at it admiring the looks.
Cruise control and adjustable suspension.... worth the upgrade then. You have a nice relaxed presentation. I really enjoyed your comparison with the bagger and the MT-09.
Hi, only found your channel recently and I must say it's always impressive to see someone overcome their challenges,(real or perceived) to achieve things beyond their expectations. I'd be interested to see how you rate the Triumph Scrambler XE especially after the ADV video you did, my inseam is a little bigger than yours but I've got the weight to squash the suspension!!
I had the MT-09 Us based version. No SP. it was high riding and I’m short at 5’8”. The suspension got wonky on a few occasion. I bought it for the power delivery which is exceptional. and it’s safety features. Which are excellent. Sold it CM
My blinker did the same thing popped out it was very hard to get back in but I found helps and spray it with Windex it lubricates the rubber and makes it easier to pop back in
I wish you would have researched the QUICK-SHIFT feature of this bike more. I think you can also up shift with this also. Blockhead seems to really enjoy it. It is quite a nice feature that I think is new on the bike world and offered on others now.
Maybe I did understand something wrong. What is new regarding the quick-shifter? Is there something special with the QS on the MT 09? QS are around on bikes for some years now and upshifting without clutch was possible before QS already.
Good Job Doodle as usual. I am an old guy with a 29" inseam and I just got a Honda CRF300L Rally and the seat height on it is 34.6" So I understand what your talking about ridding a tall bike. I love the bike and am hoping that I can get on when I have the back loaded down with luggage. I may have to do some yoga to high kick my leg over the seat. I am fine once I am on the bike but getting on is kind of a challenge. LOL
Oh didn’t mention! I have the same issue here so I actually stand on the peg (instead of the ground) to get up - I show it here at 2:14 th-cam.com/video/VxGEtkDOD-g/w-d-xo.html
@@DoodleOnAMotorcycle Well that works when there is no luggage on the back rack but I usually have luggage stacked high when I travel so I have to kick my foot up to get my heel on the seat and then slide over onto the bike. I know don't carry so much stuff on the back. I am trying! LOL
John, I have the same problem, not because of my height, but my age. It's hard to get my leg that high. Stretching & kicking exercises help. Another thing I've done, is to park along side a curb, or a good sized (not wobbly) rock. That gives you a boost of a couple of inches. (CRF250L is the tallest bike i own)
I don't know about other makes these days, but every single Yamaha especially ones like the mto9 requires a reflash and some other mods to get the fueling right, and then it's really really easy to ride even with all that power. The issues people have with slow speed riding and things like that on these bikes is all about terrible fueling, not the fact that it has a lot of power.
The reason i didn't buy the MT-09 to be honest, was because the headlights were a joke for someone like me who does night riding on weekdays mostly leaving the office at late hours. I have a friend who has the MT-09 and I struggled riding it at night seeing clearly when I borrowed it for 2 days. The lights just aren't bright enough. I later went for Tracer 9 GT 2021, which I ended up placing additional auxiliary LED lights on it though. Nonetheless, the MT-09 is a fantastic bike. Unlike my Tracer, I noticed the throttle was way more smooth never snatchy when I rode it on A-mode.
The Yammie engineers put in the overtime designing this. Total weight and distribution were their strong points of focus. The way the exhaust is designed puts the center of gravity extremely low. That coupled with the engine layout I can only imagine how balanced and light it feels. Not my type of bike, but some day (come on winning lottery ticket) I could see adding a naked to the fleet. (which currently is a fleet of one bike)
I had an MT10, the bike had so much character and power. I miss it everyday-I was so busy with work I sold it, but I think one day I’ll grab another one. Great all around hooligan bike. The SP’s have electronically dampened ohlins, color screens and I think that’s about the differences between the regular and the SP models.
All the new MT-09 and MT-10 models have color TFT screens on each model, all the new MT-10 models have cruise control and the new lightweight rims, the new MT-10SP has the most recent new generation electronically dampened Öhlins, one generation above the current R1 models on sale.
@@THEREALZENFORCE I like the Ohlins part, but I don't care at all about the screen, as I don't really look at my instruments that much I'm paying attention to riding, but I prefer steam gauges. Cruise control I guess would be nice but my throttlemeister works great. I really see no reason to switch from my 2007 fz1. Especially with Ivan's flash, carbon fiber slip-on, AIS delete, Sargent seat, integrated tail light, pazzo levers, steel braided brake lines, heated everything, etc etc.
I just test rode an MT-10SP. Possibly one of the most awesome and scary machines I've ever ridden. If it wasn't so tall I'd say go ride that, I'm 6'2 and 280lbs so no problem for me. In A mode and traction 3 or excuse me, WTF mode, it was how do I keep this front wheel on the deck. Solved that by riding in B mode or I'm a bit nicer mode but the front end still comes up, just not as high. Awesome and scary at the same time but the fear factor was eased by the handling provided by the Ohlins Electronic suspension all round.
The first thing I noticed was the blinker on one side is dangling.. That seems to be a problem with these bikes.. it comes out of socket too easy. Great review! I always love your enthusiasm!! ❤️
I always wanted a MT-09. However, it's an imported bike (while other mainstream Yamaha's are built locally), so it is kinda pricey here, around US$21k? might be 'not that expensive tho?' for some of you, but I did well amongst my friends and only make $6000 last year. I enjoy videos about bikes in general, and I find your videos are great. thanks for the video!
Great video, as always☺ I notice that when you walk your bikes around you do it from the right-hand side. You look somewhat awkward doing it & as the kick stand is on the left, would you not be better walking them from the left......
Glad you got to try the MT-09 out! Got my base model one in September and since I live in Pa it's parked with only 55 miles on it. Slowly dying inside. Lol
It’s pretty cool seeing you comfortable on a bike you have to tiptoe. With riding boots I barely flatfoot the 32.8” seat height of the 890, and that makes me feel slightly uncomfortable. So seeing you go beast mode on two baggers, a big 1250 GS adventure and this MTO9 is well, definitely bada$$! Keep up the good work
Great review as always. Not sure why so many aren't complaisant with having just the things that rider's really want to know, but all the silly details don't make the time you have anymore enjoyable. As Yamaha's aren't the least expensive bike's I figure it gives them assurances that they are getting the most out of their money. Not that this has ever been a budget sport ever. Just buying really good tires for any of my bikes cost more than steel belted radials for my Civic. That's all the way around. Have a great week Doodle. Happy New Year and safe travels.
Nice video. Tip: Pull the nozzle out of the tank and onto a doubled paper towel held in the free hand. Snapping it away only sprays gasoline all over everything.
I bought one. OMG the power is mental, on a reduced power response setting and max wheelie assist the front wheel is still coming up at times. It's possibly too much power for the upright seating position.
If you get a chance try a Yamaha FJR 1300 , Yes they are big ,yes they are heavy and have a fairing , seat height is the same . You probably will not like it, but you may just appreciate a very good sports touring bike on trips and mountains . That's if you are not into scraping the pegs on every corner . Just remember they are known to last 300,000 plus miles . They are not a flickable bike more a solid bike , Police forces around the world ( outside USA ) use them or have used them .
Thanks so much for the very encouraging to short rider to not shy away with this awesome new MT09 2021 SP. I must admit, though, I'll wait for your review of the new 2022 MT10. Would you please make it happen (?) Peace!
Hi, if you can grab one, please ride the sibling of the MT09, the XSR900. Why? It's even better accessible to shorter riders and it has got the same motor. You'll love it: classy girl + cool bike!
Great video. Next up R7 then MT10 :-). honestly, I'm trying to stay down in the 600-700 cc range. I'm not too into parallel twins, but it seems like trying to find anything in that range is going to require lots of research. I did see your vid on the Honda 650r, and like you mentioned, one can take a naked to the track. It just doesn't look/feel the same. I bet it felt so much easier going back to lighter bikes after riding around on 900+ lb cruisers. Glad you're back to doing vids. Look forward to more sportbike, and standard bike reviews.
XSR900 2023 here.. love this bike. same issue on mine, what's with those turn signals that pop out so easy? Not easy to get back in. You have to unbolt some stuff. Not a good hardware choice here,
Been considering a motorcycle again after many many years of CBR600RR and R6, the MT07/09 interest me somehow came across your channel, heard you say you went to Helen and was like "Georgia?" Weird, I just moved to GA and maybe TH-cam alga, following me lol
Good to see a revue that is not all about pulling wheelies and top speed. seems like the preload on the rear suspension is higher than it needed to be. Lifting the bike off the side stand and sitting on it usually drops the tail by an inch or so. I have to wonder how you would rate long distance comfort compared to a "Bagger" . In my expeariance riding off road bikes at speed, higher up means more wind noise and pressure.
Hi doodle, actually my next bike i was thinking about getting a mt-07 or a mt-09.l also been looking at the all new yamaha r7.That's the bike you need the mt-09!
Unless the bike has an auto blipper you MUST use the clutch to downshift. Clutchless upshifts are fine but clutless down shifts with no autoblipper can and will damage many, many gearboxes. Ask me how I know ooofffff
Ducati elements in that design, many people think Ducati's are hideous looking, but they are functional. I think many motorcycle manufacturers are moving in this Ducati direction.

“Are you gonna ride it or you gonna look at it? Good line.
Great review as always can’t wait to get mine
My favorite mt 9.. Thank you.. For amazing review
"You gonna ride it or are you going to look at it?" Love it Doodle
In my opinion: These kind of videos are selling videos. Or in other words: Superb video!
Just got one yesterday. Can confirm, it is indeed a rocket ship.
Absolute monster of a bike.
love your video! thanks! just got my SP so happy with it
I currently have a 9 GT tracer.
It is a true Swiss Army knife as I use it both for commuting and for crossing Europe with great comfort. the CP3 is a colossus from 7000 RPM onwards the music is addictive, it turns into an R
Agree with you, I own the XSR900 (old model) and engine is superb.
Watching your videos rn is kinda a guilty pleasure: I love them but at the same time it's making waiting for a season to start here in Europe harder!
Nice review and good coverage of important aspects of mt09 ownership.
Thats crazy hidden exhaust 🤨 good video 👍🏼
A very nicely done review, thank you, and you have a beautiful smile.
Hi Doodle, this is a nice informative review, and I notice how easily you are walking it around which is so good to see and probably a huge factor for smaller riders to consider! I'm guessing your recent road trips with the heavy Harley's has to be increasing your confidence and maybe your stamina too!
I felt so powerful on this after those baggers 🤣
Well, for those of us who remember the early days, when you had problems with dropping your Bonneville and feeling like you had to get rid of it, it’s really impressive what a confident and skilled rider you’ve become! 😊
Once a week I lay my bike down in the grass and pick it up.
Next time I drop it way out in the woods all by myself, I'll be OK.
@@savage22bolt32 That's good advice to follow, being prepared!
Primarily you ride your bike. But It has to look good too. Someone said "When you are walking away from you parked bike without turning and looking at it, you bought the wrong bike". Totally true. I can sit in front of my bike and look at it admiring the looks.
Great review. Thank you! I feel like the MT-09 SP really is the luxury version, now that you point it out
Cruise control and adjustable suspension.... worth the upgrade then.
Nice review. Flip the gas nozzle up once you extract it from the tank, that way it won't drip onto your tank's paint job when pulling it away.
I had the MT-09 Us based version. No SP. it was high riding and I’m short at 5’8”. The suspension got wonky on a few occasion. I bought it for the power delivery which is exceptional. and it’s safety features. Which are excellent. Sold it
CM
My blinker did the same thing popped out it was very hard to get back in but I found helps and spray it with Windex it lubricates the rubber and makes it easier to pop back in
Hi Caro; Nice bike, it was one I was looking at, but still went for my street triple, and still don’t regret my choice 😊👍🏽♥️🏍
Bikes typically compress about an inch when sat on due to the riders weight, for some reason all the bikes you sit on don't move 🤪
🤣
When ever I go to Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort, me and my buddies ride over the Helen. Those MT09's rock.
Ahhh!!
The "please be done dripping" into "Noooo" 🤣 I usually will hover my glove under the nozzle while I clear the bike. I wish there was a better way lol.
I wish you would have researched the QUICK-SHIFT feature of this bike more. I think you can also up shift with this also. Blockhead seems to really enjoy it. It is quite a nice feature that I think is new on the bike world and offered on others now.
My biggest regret!!
Maybe I did understand something wrong. What is new regarding the quick-shifter? Is there something special with the QS on the MT 09?
QS are around on bikes for some years now and upshifting without clutch was possible before QS already.
@@ElGreco291 I just wanted Doodle to experience that style shiftwr.
@@H20-town610 Ah ok. Thanks.
Stunning Bike and awesome review as always 😎
(CRF250L is the tallest bike i own)
@@savage22bolt32 Yes I have used the same tricks as well. Stretching does help I probably need to do more of that.
Great video, as always.
I kinda like the look, but I can see where the headlight people are coming from. I'm a sucker for aesthetics too!
😜🤷🏽♀️
Unless the 2023 is way better you're completely wrong about the headlight, with the high beam on you can literally see an 1/8 mile ahead.
The under engine box exhaust is an Eric Buell innovation from way back.
Allows a larger (uglier) muffler and maintains a greater lean angle.
I don’t think I’m short just average.always informative & to the point.good video
I was really pining for one of these. i ended up getting a trident 660. Plenty of experience but not much on sporty motorcycles. This is gonna be fun!
Well done Carolyn 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏☺️
I just test rode an MT-10SP. Possibly one of the most awesome and scary machines I've ever ridden. If it wasn't so tall I'd say go ride that, I'm 6'2 and 280lbs so no problem for me. In A mode and traction 3 or excuse me, WTF mode, it was how do I keep this front wheel on the deck. Solved that by riding in B mode or I'm a bit nicer mode but the front end still comes up, just not as high. Awesome and scary at the same time but the fear factor was eased by the handling provided by the Ohlins Electronic suspension all round.
Thx for the tips, very helpful!
The first thing I noticed was the blinker on one side is dangling.. That seems to be a problem with these bikes.. it comes out of socket too easy. Great review! I always love your enthusiasm!! ❤️
Yea i couldn’t get it popped back in 😋
I always wanted a MT-09.
Great video, as always☺
I notice that when you walk your bikes around you do it from the right-hand side.
Keep up the good work
beautiful bike and beautiful doodle..
Or just wait till nothin comes out of the nozzle
Im 5'6 and thinking about getting an 17' FZ 09. My first bike was a YZ125 dirtbike that I taught myself how to ride.
Thanks so much for the very encouraging to short rider to not shy away with this awesome new MT09 2021 SP.
I must admit, though, I'll wait for your review of the new 2022 MT10. Would you please make it happen (?) Peace!
Hı, new MT 09 and MT 09 SP has two way (up-and down) quickshifter. Not only down.
Hi, if you can grab one, please ride the sibling of the MT09, the XSR900. Why? It's even better accessible to shorter riders and it has got the same motor. You'll love it: classy girl + cool bike!
Great video just making me want spring time to hurry up so i can buy my MT09sp then its lots of riding for sure
4:48 the focus, the concentration, the dedication, the failure :')
Great review! Nice to hear what a lady thinks about it..... I like the headlight too!
love your videos
You can buy an aftermarket lowering kit, for most of the new bikes!
Bruh no need to lower bikes with short rider tricks you can add in 5 min!th-cam.com/video/VxGEtkDOD-g/w-d-xo.html
You are way more than just a short rider.🥰
Unless the bike has an auto blipper you MUST use the clutch to downshift. Clutchless upshifts are fine but clutless down shifts with no autoblipper can and will damage many, many gearboxes. Ask me how I know ooofffff
When fueling your bike try turning the nozzle upsidedown before hanging it back up
Ducati elements in that design, many people think Ducati's are hideous looking, but they are functional.
I think many motorcycle manufacturers are moving in this Ducati direction.
Can’t wait to see the 2022 XSR900. Hopefully you get to review and compare it to the MT09
