Why Aster/Edo is my favourite YiGiOh character. Established as a ridiculously strong duelist, by beating Zane and Jaiden, with little to no effort. Showing us "dueltaining" dueling and that as a pro it's not just about pure power. Sick design, (but stress to be making his hair grey. Starts of serious, learns to have fun, be caring but remain serious. His cards are an awesome reflection/counterpart to protag. IRL super powerful era defining cards. In Dub, D Heroes have British motifs (I am English so I loved the references even more) Doing so much physical outrageous stuff for the hell of it. @@DarthPyrusTheVirus he's deck is to taky, and he is just another version of Jaden . Chaz is probably the most compelling of them all but they did he dirty for the most part. Gx is a Jaden show, Jessie is just Jaden with a Blue jacket, and a whole new deck
@@SharonFallaria And that's the fucked up thing about this show. Even when we do get rivals who are on, or at least, close to Jaden's level, the writers will used them for a single arc, then get bored with them. I actually liked Hasselbury's resentment towards Obelisk Blue, but it was resolved as soon as Jaden beat him, and he's forever since been reduced to cheerleader status. Alexis is one of the only people in Obelisk Blue who actually trains nonstop but outside of beating filler opponents, *She doesn't do shit.* Zane is one of the most interesting characters in the show, and they do almost *Nothing* with him post-Season 1. It's just.... so much wasted potential.
One think I like to think about for Edo in season 3 is that Edo recognized what was happening with Echo. Not just for no reason, but because he was used in a very similar way by his adoptive father, no matter how small of a role said adoptive father played, he was using Edo and I think he saw himself in Echo at that point. But god, could he have been one of the best characters in GX if they'd just invested any time into him, and they dropped the ball even harder in Arc-V where they brought him back and he didn't win a single duel
Jaden went through 6 rivals, 2-3 best friends, and 3 spirit partners. Don't forget that nearly every GX character had a different ace monster each duel. GX definitely gave off the most "to sell cards" energy, well at least until Arc V came out
I hated Aster as a kid but he grew on me everytime I rewatched. He’s a good foil to Jaden and how he dominated Zane and Jaden without trying was so shocking at the time D Heroes also grew on me a lot too, Plasma/BlooD is one of my favorite Yugioh cards ever I hate how GX sacked so many of their characters from previous seasons with every new one.
Both Edo(aster) and Judai (Jaden) both have person their care edo father death by lod and judai friend was put in coma by yubel. Also fun fact btw destiny hero plasma power put souls of human is very similar jinmen from devil man series. Edo father and Akira mom from devil man series very similar to each other
It's great to finally see an Edo video! You are right about him being underutilized (he is also treated like crap in fanfiction) could have had more duels in season two with stuff like if they made him try to help unbrainwash the students from the Society of Light or if he dueled Prince Ojinn and we got to see some of his Genex duels. Season two did not need fifty billion Judai duels against filler characters. One thing worth mentioning is that Edo was the only one who actually realized what was wrong with Misawa then. D.D. should have been the main villain and built up more from the beginning instead of shoehorned in. I hate how Edo (usually he's seen as Aster for this take) can be judged as a character solely for his lines in the first couple of episodes of season two's english dub. Season three especially in the sub really shows his kindness and how he's grown to see Judai as a friend. It's really a shame they never had a good heart-to-heart talk in season four about all the Supreme King and Yubel stuff. For the first time, Judai could probably identify more with Edo because he went through something and stopped seeing dueling as fun for awhile too because of trauma. The Echo situation is even more justified for Edo's anger in the sub since Amon was shown to actually hit her at one point (I'm pretty sure 4kids censored it out), and this is the breaking point for Edo that prompts him to step in. Season four was more wasted potential for Edo. Idk if it was just because the anime was cut or maybe Akira Ishida wasn't available to voice Edo for too long, but his addition in it just feels so unsatisfying. It's not even really the fact that he loses to Manjoume so much as it is that he doesn't DO anything except that. I would loved to see Edo be the one to duel and defeat Saio instead of Judai again and his reaction to the Trueman stuff. Heck, he doesn't even show up to visit during the graduation party. They show him in the season four theme song with Destiny Hero Plasma like he's going to be an important character, but he literally has no real plot or ending of his own. For me, I like Edo because he's cool and memorable AND the destiny and vision heroes. He gets a lot of flack just because he's not cheerful and because of his reliance on destiny in the beginning. But imo, the former made sense that he needed something like that growing up as a child who had just lost his family and wanted to believe that he could do great things someday like Saio told him and that he had to make his own justice and be a hero himself.
Aster is really cool but he’s one of the biggest victim of GX’s misuse of characters. Chazz turned into a joke after his initial arc but he at least got a satisfying send off. The only character who got treated worse was Bastion, poor poor Bastion.
Even Bastion is still an important player in season 3, both helping everyone get back from the other dimension and helping Jaden snap out of the Supreme King rut. Alexis quite literally doesn't do anything.
My favorite moment is his Skysurfing entrance to Duel Academy. My favorite Duel is his duels against Jaden. Honestly, they should have had him taking out Society of Light Members in the GX Tournament, like have him take Jaden's place in maybe half the duels he had in the Tournament? Just a thought. Of course, I'd have loved a Jesse vs Aster Duel in Season 3 and have him, like you suggested, duel The Supreme King and, if he'd win, have him remind Jaden of what he had taught him. That way, before he's Exodiad, it's truly full circle as Jaden had not only saved Sartorious from the Light and Aster would have saved Jaden from the Darkness but also Jaden had taught Aster what being a Duelist and Aster would have reminded Jaden of the same without losing anything.
My favourite gx character. Too bad he fell off after a strong start. Definitely should have beat Sartorius together with Jaden. Instead he just got beaten again and again after receiving his strongest card which makes no sense to me. Thanks for the video bro👍
Good Video about Aster, even if my opinions about GX and it's arcs are what me and my own community believe like how me and my best friend Yukisanm/Moncarat usually discuss about my GX Rewrite fanfiction of Alexis and Aster as double protagonists and the disagreement with my opinions is just as fine and i respect that. putting Aside my opinions and putting aside my fanfictions of GX: Legacy and GX Rewrite mature English Dub, i can only state in Jaden's messed up Season 2 filler hero spotlight shafting so much characters Aster canonically is a tragic hero who almost saved the universe and almost destroyed the Evil Light including almost defeating Adrian and almost saving Echo because of the iconic Destiny HERO Plasma and how powerful it is. i agree as well Aster and Jaden should have tagged vs Sartorious together in Season 4 or even better should have tagged vs Darkness after Johan and Fujiwara killed by Nightshroud because Aster in my opinion survived the Trueman invasion and could have come back by getting emergency call from Jaden asking help. thus Aster could have clash with Supreme King and defeat him to save Jaden if a conversation with Axel would have happened so he and Edo discuss and decide which of them is the hero saving Judai from the darkness. and Aster could have become friends with Alexis as well in Season 4 to later eventually get together in mature romance through Asuka acknowledging Edo as a hero worthy to love and respect if Judai isn't the one hero to love because of his personality. in Season 4 Aster was originally planned and scheduled by Sheppard to duel Jaden one last time in hero graduation duel in comparison to Zane and Jaden's graduation duel so Edo and Judai determine the stronger man to the point Aster perhaps defeats Jaden by Destiny End Dragoon defeating any Elemental Hero fusions along with Neos to show Jaden dueling can still be greatly fun and talk with him about the Supreme King, Jesse and Yubel problems. thus a second final graduation duel could have been an ultimate duel giving Aster and Jaden closure, could have been the greatest GX: Season 4 duel. Mike however ruined the hero graduation duel chance and forced Chazz losing on purpose to Jaden to force Aster retiring from his career by Mike snatching Destiny End without Chazz chasing him because he was cleaning the whole warehouse and was asleep without even checking on the suitcase for once to see if it's still protected. and Aster in reasonable anger knocked Chazz out by punching him to scold him about the failure of not protecting the Destiny End Dragoon king's weapon that was designed to defeat Jaden and settle a score with him. then Aster dueled Chazz and lost to him getting punched and knocked out by Ojama which i consider obviously cheating because of their duel stopped midduel by Mike to the point he got captured by Jaden returning Destiny End to Edo to make him continue the duel and make Aster almost defeat Chazz by fantastic Destiny HERO Plasma comeback. the biggest catastrophic moment then happened with Aster making his worst dumbest decision using Destiny End Dragoon in 3000 ATK instead of 3000 defense which was absolutely absurd because he could have defeat Chazz and donate the victory to the orphans to support them and save the school by destroying Armed Dragon LV10 by using Destiny End in defense. the mistake obviously costed Aster his worst failure and defeat to the point he was fired by his sponsors and got depressed alone in isolation in his boat after losing his whole career and having his orphan school shutdown by losing all his money and all those show Aster's tragedy worsened than ever to prove he's the most tragic yugioh character in history because he lost his beloved father and was adopted by his father's killer the D who was killed in revenge. that's all. great video and well explained.
I aways loved Aster, ever since I watched GX as as kid . My dad is an illustrator (he is alive and well!) so maybe i related to the artist father-son (daughter in my case) relationship. I also did like he was the opposite of Jaden. Sadly, he was underutilized. His story could have been exploited much more, specially in season 2 and his relationship with Sartorious. His stuff about destiny was very intresting too! Overall he is a character I feel is neglected in merch and fan stuff in general (Aster the character, maybe not so much D-Heroes).
GX is my favorite YGO anime and I think the Yubel arc would been ten times better if it had like a ten episode stretch exploring Edo and Kaiser bumming around and just doing what they were doing.
Looking back at GX, it feels like they had some plans for Syrus' arc, the abandoned dorm... and that's about it. Chazz and Alexis have their own small little arcs that get wrapped up by the end of season 1. Bastion kinda has that thing where he realizes he doesn't need the recognition of others (though it ironically happens in the background, only given spotlight if you go through the trouble of unlocking him and playing his story in Tag Force 3). Everything else feels improvised, I think. Realistically, the entirety of the society of light just shouldn't have happened. It don't think it really did anything to enhance any of the characters.
By far, without a thought the best character in GX. First he has the most rockinest dudes in the game. In all actuality you are correct. Aster is completely underutilized and forgotten. I think GX suffers from too many characters and a lack of direction when you have a show that's meant to be more about fun. Season 2 his aura was over 9000 Season 3 starts his losing streak and shreds his pro persona. This season actually shattered Aster's potential as a duelist to fear. He doesn't lose confidence in his duels yet you can see how his tricks or cards have been outpaced. Season 4 flushes his entire progression down the toilet and now he's the new tutorial boss for getting your confidence and making it into the pro league. This character is everything to me. Ive always been disappointed at the extreme lack of a game plan that the HERO archetype typically has. The destiny heroes have gimmicky effects that try to be tricky to deal with the power fusion monsters that the elemental heroes can create. The boss monsters are incredible, Dreadmaster, Dogma, Plasma, and DRAGOON (GX only) are a menacing display of power. As you can tell I can talk about Aster all day😊
I feel the same way. It's good to see whenever someone understands he's a good character. Usually nowadays people actually believe that even Alexis or Blair are more interesting than him and it just hurts to see. The anime truly had something special with him, but then they wrecked it starting with his duel with Sartorius. That was the moment they decided, "You can never be important again because we can only promote one Hero duelist with an ongoing plot and winstreak." They decided that anyone and everyone could defeat Aster Phoenix-a character who worked hard to defeat duelists around the world on a schedule and defeated the world champion of the Pro Leagues, D.D.-just because they wanted to. It was a disgrace to see the best GX character turned into a jobber with no real end to his story or even reflection from him.

He was truly a victim of the Judai show
I Can't agree more
Victim in general; as he was to Monjome and season 4 in general
The fate of everybody not named Jaden in this show.
Seriously, cause Season 3 made such a big deal out of Jesse, but he ultimately didn't do shit.
He beat Zane...sort of. He was there at least.

Arc 5 was basically a retelling of GX structurally so that isn't surprising.
He definetly neeaded to defeat Sartorius in the end, Jaden gained nothing from t, but its a jaden show after all unfortunatly
I agree. And that time Sartorious wasn't possessed by Light of Destruction, so Aster could've had a level playing field unlike the first time.
