The thing is, they always portray Chazz as a good duelist. They made a big deal of him in season 2. Having Sartorius duel him and specifically choosing him as the first student to be washed and join the society of light, I remember watching that episode and waiting for the next one to see what will Chazz do. They never did anything with him for a while, and it came off stupid. He should play a more significant role in season 2. They should emphasize the fact that he defeated the entire blue dorm. But they made it feel like a “big deal.” The same thing could be said about the GX tournament. They couldn't make an entire episode dedicated to the tournament and building his character, but somehow they had 20 filler episodes in that season.
Completely agree. As much as I love this series, the filler during season 2 didn't help. I would've loved to see him actually have a full length duel; especially in the finals. Heck seeing him vs Blair's Mystic deck may have even convinced them to actually release her deck. Not only that, but with all you mentioned, him being considered #1 in the academy actually would've made sense.
He also held off the Truman Army (he was in 2 different areas fighting them) that was basically nerfing everybody with memory loss and inability to check the gy for some reason And essentially relearns the value of each card in s4 where they wanted to screw him over via win-loss ratios

The problem with Yu-Gi-Oh GX is that the spotlight was too much on Jaden, in DM despite focusing a lot on Yugi, other duelists had a chance to shine and face the villains, GX had this chance in the Shadow Riders arc, but only Jaden fought and that for me was a huge mistaken of GX. And Chazz was the one who suffered the most from this, because he was part of the Big Three at the academy, along with Jaden and Zane, that's why he served as a guinea pig for the viewer to see how strong the villain was: Be careful, the villain defeated Chazz, that means he is very strong. And this was used more than once, because of that, even though he defeated Aster and Jaden in Season 4 (He would have won the duel, but had to give up because of blackmail.), no one believes he is a good duelist.
Couldn’t agree more. When the characters repeatedly dump on someone, why should we believe that they’re any good? Chazz never really recovered in that aspect, if anything it made, his friends look like worse people, and oddly enough worse duelists; because most of their records were worse than his.

Let's add Kaiba to that list because, while he is awesome, he doesn't actually duel THAT often. And most of them are losses. Cut to GX. We see a number of times having Syrus duel. Chazz duel. Zane duel. And combined all the side characters do WAY more dueling than then entirety of the DM side characters combined. In fact. Marik is a TRASH villain because he takes NOTHING BUT L's if those duels played out properly. The fact that he duesl through other people or live on his own only makes him WORSE, not better. So no, your statement about everything being about Jaden is straight up wrong. Hell, he barely does much in Seasons 3 and 4. Yugi is straight up more of the central character of his own anime. He takes fewer losses and even straight up uses magical powers to win.
On one hand, I enjoy that GX didn't have its own Kaiba and Joey to mirror Jaden's Yugi. It helped GX stand on its own, instead of just being a copy of the original. On the other hand... there's a reason most stories don't focus that hard on exactly 1 character at the expense of all the others.
In Shadow Riders arc, Chazz along with Alexis defeated Shadow Riders too, not only Jaden. In Season 4 Chazz vs Jaden duel i am not so sure that Chazz would have won, because Jaden still had one card in his hand, if was des-fusion the Chazz's trap Chthonian Polymer would have lost the target having not effect , leaving him with no monsters in the field and Jaden with two monsters to direct attack.
I know I enjoyed GX when I was a kid but i see why people who were older, dislike it. But I will never forget Jazz. The man who made two cults and used his second cult to destroy his old one. This is still, one of my fav sub plots in all of anime lol
I like his Japanese nickname because it was a nice payoff to a good setup. Every time someone called him Manjoume, he insisted they called him Manjoume-san ("Manjoume-san da!"), until it became the beloved chant "Manjoume sandā!"

Late comment but it's actually because for some reason , 4kids dub translated wrong. In the original he is indeed restricted to use only 0 ATK monster. Love that episode. Gamble his academy like that is such a Kaiba thing to do. He could've just decline the offer but hell no.
7:13 Yeah, a lot of the villains were references to actors. The strangest in the dub was when Zane was fighting a parody of Mike Tyson who had a very high pitched voice.
6:00 I really like this video, but this is something I disagree with. if Chazz had won and rejected supporting his brothers on his terms, I think that would have made for a more powerful moment. Plus, I think it also makes Jaden seem a little heartless, Jaden has nothing to gain from winning this duel and still decides to beat him. Chazz practically got disowned by his brothers immediately afterwards and probably would have gotten it worse if Jaden and his friends didn't step in, so I don't think Chazz walked away perfectly fine at least in that moment.
I can agree with that in some aspects; that being said I don't think Jaden would've been heartless for that. Chazz would have been furious if Jaden let him win. In the end, I don't necessarily think he had to lose, but I don't think it ruined him per say.

It did end up working out for Chazz, but I think Jaden's assumption that beating Chazz would make him see that nothing bad would come out of it was slightly flawed. Just because he also failed to consider that Chazz would be taking a big loss on live TV, likely humiliating him even if it wasn't intentional. Plus, as we learn in Season 4, Chazz and any inspiring pros apply to firms and wait for their acceptance and rejections, so a big loss on live TV could hurt Chazz's reputation among them. I do agree overall that it doesn't really hurt Chazz as Character because he is still one of the best characters in Yu-Gi-Oh. Chazz it up! But I always felt that Chazz beating Jaden as at least once would have kept the rivalry a bit more exciting.

The last duel they had really made no difference for Jaden to win.

Yeah I love Chazz/Manjoume so much, I think they did him a little dirty in terms of never officially beating Jaden/Judai, but I still love his character and his growth, especially what happened in season 4 with him
Honestly, two big things are holding him back from getting more views and subscribers: inconsistent content and thumbnails. For his character analysis, the thumbnails are very high quality. Take, for example, his Bastion video reached 17K views, most likely due to a compelling title and great thumbnail. In contrast, many of his other videos may share the same high-quality content, but the thumbnails hold him back. While the second reason isn't focusing on a specific niche, instead focusing on all different types of anime content: Naruto, Dragon Ball, Yugioh, etc. While this is completely fine, it's harder to build a channel that isn't focused on one topic/community. It's why many people encourage newer creators to first build a loyal fan following by targeting a specific fanbase/community, then start to expand further via side channels or uploading different topics once you've established yourself. Also, I'm definitely not saying that you need to focus on a single topic, just that statically it's harder to grow without a specific niche. At the end of the day, as long as you are consistent and enjoy creating content, that's all that matters :D
It is wild he never beaten jaden which is funny because he has the most fights with the protagonist then any other rival and also is the only gx rival to duel jaden in every season
@@animeegotists7527 agreed on Ojama fueled VWXYZ win, or even XYZ discarding Ojama Yellow to destroy Neos or Shining Flare wingman would've been cool. Like he had the powerful cards but It wouldn't have happened without the Ojamas support. Granted the card pool and support was limited but they could've made it work. Now if they had a scripted duel it'd be great and people in the live audience could cheer.
To this day, I still think he would've suit better in defeating/drawing Emperor Jaden than axel. I love volcanic, but character whise the Chazz was more fitting due to his old time rivalry with him. Also imagine the scary and edgy emperor getting defeated by ojama yellow..... The memes that would've spawn..
One of the most popular and underated duelist in GX. The Chazz is a guy who went from Snotty Prep Obelisk Blue to Slifer Red (Finding himself in North Academy) and ended up in The Pro Leagues with the Light Dark and Light and Darkness Dragon Synchro Monsters in the Duel Links which is amazing.
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Chazz should have saved Alexis from the society of light. I really think they attended that to happen with that one liner you mentioned, and for some reason along the way ditched the idea, because they want Alexis to like Jaden. Anyways thank you for giving my favorite character in all of Yugioh the credit he deserves.
My favorite quote regarding Chazz is "Chazz evolves from a duelist who only respects powerful cards to a duelist who believes there can be effectiveness in any card."
The 4Kids dub of Yugioh GX is legitimately my favourite of the Yugioh franchise. I know, I know, heresy. But it felt like the most realistic depiction of a group of teenagers, friends who have each other's backs, but will still hang shit on each other, and that really synchronised well with the wacky, all over the place tone of GX in my eyes.
Chazz should've at least had a graduation match. Since season 4, Jaden, although the best duelist at the school, was obviously one of the worst students. Chazz, being the second best Duelist, would be fitting that he chooses Jaden as his final school duel. This would pay so many homages to season 1. Their rivalry, passing the torch, and all their skills and limits being put to the test.
What i love about Chazz he is actually playing variety of deck (four or more kind of deck i believe) which that how i actually play in real life. I really hate playing same deck (its kinda boring), even tho' i had one favourite non meta deck sometimes i use Meanwhile, Jaden becomes one trick pony and spams heroes for whole of the series
I really wish that the anime focused on the academy students not named Jaden beyond the worf effect and comic relief after season 1/2 but what can you do? Besides read the manga that is the only reason people think Chazz should’ve won that tournament duel against Jaden. Cause, well, it’s part of what separates the superior version from the inferior one.
Yu-Gi-Oh rivals are easy to like because they usually start off as a wall to overcome but eventually they become the underdog because of course the protagonist has plot armor to win so rival duels our kind of the only real tension
I think yugioh problem as a whole is the Yugioh series giving ALL Spotlight to main characters, like for real the secondary characters have little to no personality, like Tristan or Tea having absolutely nothing to do with the plot
For me, they are more like "friends", not positioning themselves as players. But when you have a whole academy of duelists whose main task is to fight and win, please, give them a normal win rate and time to shine

Effectively a dueling record with a 0% winrate because his few solowins barely count.) 14:12 And then he loses yet again. Tbf, I don't even mind this one because it has some nice comedic synergy with this line. "He's better at cardgames too, lol". 16:20 What, why? I don't personally like the Season at all, but Manjoume winning here is one of the good parts(Both because it gives him a more general W, as it gave him pro league-credibility, and also because it involves Edo being punched in the face by Ojama Yellow)
Based on what I’ve seen from Sylvio, i’m gonna be sad to see him lose on a regular basis. But maybe I’ll talk about him another day. @Anime Egotists The people who are mad about Chazz winning feel that way because Chazz' win came out of nowhere basically with no development and very tell-not-show after he spent so much time doing practically nothing value after season 1. He was usually either losing or getting brainwashed for most of seasons 2 and 3, so it made no sense for him suddenly to win against Aster, a duelist who not only defeated Zane and Jaden, but the world champion of the Pro Leagues, D.D., as well as taking a much more proactive role in Darkworld and held his own against Adrian much better than Chazz did, and as seen in season 4, Aster had himself on a serious training regimen in a real professional dueling job. Yet we are supposed to believe that Chazz is suddenly better than all of that somehow. It was sloppy writing to just throw Aster into season 4 to be a dueling punching bag. It would have made more sense if they had showed Chazz actually being trained by Aster and having to lose to him a bit first and learn more about how the Pro Leagues operated too, and if they had given Aster another duel where he wins against a different major character. But they didn't do any of that. So, all of these things are reasons why some people are rightfully upset by Aster's loss here. Character development shouldn't be about tearing down another character.
I swear, Adrian's father must be Deadpool. He calls out so many repetitive tropes in the anime that you could say LittleKuriboh must've had some say in his script. He calls out how people activate cards and effects, talks about how people talk all their thoughts outloud when he over hears Axel talking about his dietary. The guy knows how to break the fourth wall.
Bastion should have been the main rival of Jaden. Their duel in Season 1 was one of the best ones since he banished polymerization. Something that nobody in GX did. Still I see what the writers were doing. They wanted another Kaiba and it was somewhat split into three with Chazz (Arrogance), Zane (Skill) , and Aster (Both). Chazz is still the best Duelist in the School considering he has used more Archetypes than any Character and still has one of the best W/L Records for a Rival Character.
I always enjoyed him, however I wish that he had beat Jaiden in their GX Tournament Duel the more I think about it. It'd allow him not only that win he wanted but also be thematic in his that in telling his favorite weaklings the truth about how he feels about them(them being his true aces despite how annoying they are to him), he's able to defeat everyone, plus he was the only one to get brainwashed and saved before Sartorious' defeat to break free without being bested in a Duel.

I'll be honest. I think chazz really deserves better development cuz even though he was rude person in the beginning he was at least a decent rival for jaden as their rivalry reminds me of goku vs vegeta natsu vs grey and sonic vs shadow but as the series progress he became yugioh gx joey wheeler from yugioh duel monsters. Not that it's a bad thing per say cuz I like joey wheeler as he's a fan favorite. Also I agree on how jaden should have won his 3rd duel against chazz during the school duel rather than disagreeing to those who think he should lose which is dumb. Anyways it would be understandable if chazz should receive a win against jaden rather than losing to him more than once and should receive more wins like other rivals in yugioh series. I like chazz. Chazz losing to Jaden in season four makes total sense for the same reason that him beating Aster makes sense. Beating Jaden doesn't further his goals in any way, shape, or form. He doesn't have anything to prove to Jaden. He already had that man's respect. Beating Aster, an actual pro, and someone that keeps pushing him in ways that frustrated and flustered him, was far more important for his journey to the pros. But yeah, he should have beaten Jaden at some point. Just not that one.

6:00 I really like this video, but this is something I disagree with. if Chazz had won and rejected supporting his brothers on his terms, I think that would have made for a more powerful moment. Plus, I think it also makes Jaden seem a little heartless, Jaden has nothing to gain from winning this duel and still decides to beat him. Chazz practically got disowned by his brothers immediately afterwards and probably would have gotten it worse if Jaden and his friends didn't step in, so I don't think Chazz walked away perfectly fine at least in that moment.
I can agree with that in some aspects; that being said I don't think Jaden would've been heartless for that. Chazz would have been furious if Jaden let him win.
In the end, I don't necessarily think he had to lose, but I don't think it ruined him per say.
@@animeegotists7527 I should rephrase that, Jaden's logic was slightly naive. It did end up working out for Chazz, but I think Jaden's assumption that beating Chazz would make him see that nothing bad would come out of it was slightly flawed. Just because he also failed to consider that Chazz would be taking a big loss on live TV, likely humiliating him even if it wasn't intentional. Plus, as we learn in Season 4, Chazz and any inspiring pros apply to firms and wait for their acceptance and rejections, so a big loss on live TV could hurt Chazz's reputation among them.
I do agree overall that it doesn't really hurt Chazz as Character because he is still one of the best characters in Yu-Gi-Oh. Chazz it up! But I always felt that Chazz beating Jaden as at least once would have kept the rivalry a bit more exciting.
@@rich355 I can understand that. I guess in a way it works for me because it stayed consistent with Jaden‘s character: even if he loses he doesn’t see it as the end of the world and that’s what he was trying to teach Chazz. Granted with that logic Jaden should’ve lost more duels than he did.
Definitely agree with the last part. Him beating Jaden definitely would’ve made a stronger case for him. The last duel they had really made no difference for Jaden to win.

Yeah I love Chazz/Manjoume so much, I think they did him a little dirty in terms of never officially beating Jaden/Judai, but I still love his character and his growth, especially what happened in season 4 with him

Honestly, two big things are holding him back from getting more views and subscribers: inconsistent content and thumbnails. For his character analysis, the thumbnails are very high quality. Take, for example, his Bastion video reached 17K views, most likely due to a compelling title and great thumbnail. In contrast, many of his other videos may share the same high-quality content, but the thumbnails hold him back. While the second reason isn't focusing on a specific niche, instead focusing on all different types of anime content: Naruto, Dragon Ball, Yugioh, etc.
While this is completely fine, it's harder to build a channel that isn't focused on one topic/community. It's why many people encourage newer creators to first build a loyal fan following by targeting a specific fanbase/community, then start to expand further via side channels or uploading different topics once you've established yourself.
Also, I'm definitely not saying that you need to focus on a single topic, just that statically it's harder to grow without a specific niche. At the end of the day, as long as you are consistent and enjoy creating content, that's all that matters :D
It is wild he never beaten jaden which is funny because he has the most fights with the protagonist then any other rival and also is the only gx rival to duel jaden in every season

Like he had the powerful cards but It wouldn't have happened without the Ojamas support. Granted the card pool and support was limited but they could've made it work. Now if they had a scripted duel it'd be great and people in the live audience could cheer.
To this day, I still think he would've suit better in defeating/drawing Emperor Jaden than axel.
I love volcanic, but character whise the Chazz was more fitting due to his old time rivalry with him.
Also imagine the scary and edgy emperor getting defeated by ojama yellow..... The memes that would've spawn..
One of the most popular and underated duelist in GX. The Chazz is a guy who went from Snotty Prep Obelisk Blue to Slifer Red (Finding himself in North Academy) and ended up in The Pro Leagues with the Light Dark and Light and Darkness Dragon Synchro Monsters in the Duel Links which is amazing.

I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Chazz should have saved Alexis from the society of light. I really think they attended that to happen with that one liner you mentioned, and for some reason along the way ditched the idea, because they want Alexis to like Jaden. The 4Kids dub of Yugioh GX is legitimately my favourite of the Yugioh franchise.
I know, I know, heresy.
But it felt like the most realistic depiction of a group of teenagers, friends who have each other's backs, but will still hang shit on each other, and that really synchronised well with the wacky, all over the place tone of GX in my eyes.

Chazz should've at least had a graduation match. Since season 4, Jaden, although the best duelist at the school, was obviously one of the worst students. Chazz, being the second best Duelist, would be fitting that he chooses Jaden as his final school duel. This would pay so many homages to season 1. Their rivalry, passing the torch, and all their skills and limits being put to the test.
I would love that! Heck, with all the times Jaden beats Chazz, I wouldn't even be upset if Chazz won in the end!

I really wish that the anime focused on the academy students not named Jaden beyond the worf effect and comic relief after season 1/2 but what can you do? Besides read the manga that is the only reason people think Chazz should’ve won that tournament duel against Jaden. Cause, well, it’s part of what separates the superior version from the inferior one.

Yu-Gi-Oh rivals are easy to like because they usually start off as a wall to overcome but eventually they become the underdog because of course the protagonist has plot armor to win so rival duels our kind of the only real tension

I think yugioh problem as a whole is the Yugioh series giving ALL Spotlight to main characters, like for real the secondary characters have little to no personality, like Tristan or Tea having absolutely nothing to do with the plot
For me, they are more like "friends", not positioning themselves as players.
But when you have a whole academy of duelists whose main task is to fight and win, please, give them a normal win rate and time to shine

Honestly, even tho I think Chazz got done a bit dirty along some of the other GX-characters(I mean, dude that Season 1-duel that the videocreator disagrees on the general consensus that he should have won, is made responsible by the writers for the Spirit Key-issue and barely did anything relevant in Season 3, never even dueled in the Dark World-arc), he's actually quite lucky in the context of how it could have been much worse.(Looking at Silvio from ArcV who's written quite similarly to this guy interms of dueling skill and basic characterstrengh, but gets all the disrespect for some reason. Effectively a dueling record with a 0% winrate because his few solowins barely count.)

Yeah I don’t get it either, I don’t really care for season four myself, but him winning was awesome. I’m perfectly fine with Aster losing to him here. I’m not entirely sure why people have a problem with him winning here.
@Anime Egotists The people who are mad about Chazz winning feel that way because Chazz' win came out of nowhere basically with no development and very tell-not-show after he spent so much time doing practically nothing value after season 1. He was usually either losing or getting brainwashed for most of seasons 2 and 3, so it made no sense for him suddenly to win against Aster, a duelist who not only defeated Zane and Jaden, but the world champion of the Pro Leagues, D.D., as well as taking a much more proactive role in Darkworld and held his own against Adrian much better than Chazz did, and as seen in season 4, Aster had himself on a serious training regimen in a real professional dueling job. Yet we are supposed to believe that Chazz is suddenly better than all of that somehow. It was sloppy writing to just throw Aster into season 4 to be a dueling punching bag. It would have made more sense if they had showed Chazz actually being trained by Aster and having to lose to him a bit first and learn more about how the Pro Leagues operated too, and if they had given Aster another duel where he wins against a different major character. But they didn't do any of that. So, all of these things are reasons why some people are rightfully upset by Aster's loss here. Character development shouldn't be about tearing down another character.

I swear, Adrian's father must be Deadpool. He calls out so many repetitive tropes in the anime that you could say LittleKuriboh must've had some say in his script. He calls out how people activate cards and effects, talks about how people talk all their thoughts outloud when he over hears Axel talking about his dietary. The guy knows how to break the fourth wall.
He was downright ridiculous. He maybe that’s why I like him so much. Then again, the whole fourth wall joke thing probably runs in his family.
Chazz had great character development

Bastion should have been the main rival of Jaden. Their duel in Season 1 was one of the best ones since he banished polymerization. Something that nobody in GX did. Still I see what the writers were doing. They wanted another Kaiba and it was somewhat split into three with Chazz (Arrogance), Zane (Skill) , and Aster (Both). Chazz is still the best Duelist in the School considering he has used more Archetypes than any Character and still has one of the best W/L Records for a Rival Character.
Especially since in the sub they keep calling each other 'Number 1/2'. Them trading wins and loses could've been cool throughout the series.
I always enjoyed him, however I wish that he had beat Jaiden in their GX Tournament Duel the more I think about it. It'd allow him not only that win he wanted but also be thematic in his that in telling his favorite weaklings the truth about how he feels about them(them being his true aces despite how annoying they are to him), he's able to defeat everyone, plus he was the only one to get brainwashed and saved before Sartorious' defeat to break free without being bested in a Duel.
That I could definitely vibe with; especially since he ended up winning the tournament in the first place!
@@animeegotists7527 exactly, plus the Tournament was secondary to Jaiden as he'd go on to duel for the key Sartorious gave him on top of that. To me, that would have been the best route to go with the Duel.

One of the only characters in season one we didn't See lose to a shadow rider (imo because her and chazz losing would have just felt wrong but they had to write jaden as the last one somehow.)
I'll be honest. I think chazz really deserves better development cuz even though he was rude person in the beginning he was at least a decent rival for jaden as their rivalry reminds me of goku vs vegeta natsu vs grey and sonic vs shadow but as the series progress he became yugioh gx joey wheeler from yugioh duel monsters. Not that it's a bad thing per say cuz I like joey wheeler as he's a fan favorite. Also I agree on how jaden should have won his 3rd duel against chazz during the school duel rather than disagreeing to those who think he should lose which is dumb. Anyways it would be understandable if chazz should receive a win against jaden rather than losing to him more than once and should receive more wins like other rivals in yugioh series. I like chazz. Chazz losing to Jaden in season four makes total sense for the same reason that him beating Aster makes sense.
Beating Jaden doesn't further his goals in any way, shape, or form. He doesn't have anything to prove to Jaden. He already had that man's respect.
Beating Aster, an actual pro, and someone that keeps pushing him in ways that frustrated and flustered him, was far more important for his journey to the pros.
But yeah, he should have beaten Jaden at some point. Just not that one.
