Mr Govan and Paul Gilbert are THE BEST teachers.........in my opinion, very earnest and no patronization . And of course, their skills are off the chart.
i’m convinced he had to practice this a long time to develop those muscles. he almost says as much. it’s insane how hard this is not having done it before !
What a wonderful time in history to play guitar. Thank you SO much for making my day. I can't believe this supergenius can be so kind as to share so much so well with me. Those that do CAN teach, better than most teachers. Thanks to EVERYONE involved in making this video series happen. What joy!
I would pay money for these Guthrie videos to be put out regularly. Like a subscription or something lol. He’s just so damn great at explaining and easy on the ears.
Just when you think you're getting a grip on technique, along comes someone like this, to tell you..."No. No, you need to do a lot more work." It either depresses you, or inspires you. It inspires me. Great player!
Insane how (arguably) the greatest guitarist alive is also one of the greatest teachers out there, guitar or otherwise. I honestly think he could be teaching the art of paint drying and it would still be interesting.
exactly my thoughts. most of these so called guitar heroes just talk non stop and don't even bother to properly explain the concepts. A lot of their workshops is just a waste of money. In his case, it might be the greatest teacher you ever had.
I would argue in terms of simple reputation and final result…. Working with zimmer and his own stuff…. This man is the best guitar player currently alive…. And yes before you ask ,.. he’s way way way way way way way way better than Tim Henson ffs
Hey Gunthrie, I was just curious if you good do a video about progressions embedded in solos. Something Ive noticed over the years is that instead of thinking of what scale I should use over a chord, it seems to be also helpful to play in terms of outlining specific chords and an overall sense of progression, and not necessarily only in terms of arpeggios. Thanks, cheers, great videos
Chet Atkins esque progression at 10:20 is awesome, definitely worth learning by itself. Will tab out soon, PM me if you'd like it (realistically won't be done till next week, I have exams).
"So the ER doc says 'My God, man, what did you DO to your fingers?' And I says 'I was trying to bend like Guthrie Govan!' And he says 'Well you've managed to dislocate three of them.'" I wonder if there's such a thing as 6 gauge strings...
do you use the tremol-no for all this stuff? because when I try to practice them on my floyd-rose and old-style floating tremolo-equipped guitars, bending one string causes the bridge to render all the rest so wildly out of tune that it becomes unusable to me. maybe I just need heavier springs?
I'm pretty sure your reference and use of Albatross and other songs in the other videos falls under fair use as it is an example used to illustrate your point.
Hello Guthrie? 1 Question I have Is about the tone of your Guitar. It does somewhat sound like a Pedal Steel. Would thinner strings Esp, The G. B. E. Give More Of A County Sound? Good lesson By the way.
He uses 10-46, he used to be endorsed by RotoSound, not so sure now. He is a real chameleon when it comes to sound though, I think he just has that magic touch!
So wonderful! Not only an incredible player, but so gifted in clarity of teaching!
Not an incredible player? Who?
Mr Govan and Paul Gilbert are THE BEST teachers.........in my opinion, very earnest and no patronization . And of course, their skills are off the chart.
I really hope there's more masterclass videos from Guthrie to come in the future...
This guy is such a great player and teacher.
What a wonderfully talented person he is! Never get tired of watching him.
All these insane bends on .10's and intonation to die for. New definition of sick.
bobbysbackingtracks yeah I have nines and some of the bends we're really hard to get to the right pitch. He's awesome.

In Part Five, Guthrie teaches you how to bend the low E string around the neck entirely. I don't want this series to end!!!
Guitar genius on so many levels.
His ability is in a universe of its own. Truly one of the best in the world.
Man his phrasing and voicing of his bends are straight up heart warming
Guthrie is a brilliant guitarist who can play anything supremely well and he is obviously a very intelligent humorous guy as well.
Awesomeness, tip of the hat to the people who set this stuff up too, thank you guitarist magazine :)
I would pay money for these Guthrie videos to be put out regularly. Like a subscription or something lol. He’s just so damn great at explaining and easy on the ears.
Guthrie is such a gentleman. And his playing skills are just out of this world.
What a great guy, and that Charvel is stunning!
Secrets to being a good guitarist:
- Listen to what you play
- Grow a beard
- Play 100% of the time for your entire life
99%....the 1% percent left ( in anything) i keep as the ghost or zombie percent.......words of wisdom
I really just enjoy listening to him talk
Josh Bremerman I know! Good dude I bet.
yeah ❤✨
Just when you think you're getting a grip on technique, along comes someone like this, to tell you..."No. No, you need to do a lot more work."
It either depresses you, or inspires you. It inspires me. Great player!
Yup makes me start playing again
Dude this guy has such a versatile playing style, I'm in awe.
he is amazing.
and actually I didn't expect him to explain things in such a easy to understand fashion.
kudos

This is wild...getting to grips with some off these bends is baffling but very rewarding. I feel like I'm in Nashville. Thanks Guthrie.

i've got loads of old guitarist magazines and guitar techniques magazines buried away somewhere, i might dig them back out..
I would argue in terms of simple reputation and final result…. Working with zimmer and his own stuff…. This man is the best guitar player currently alive…. And yes before you ask ,.. he’s way way way way way way way way better than Tim Henson ffs
Fantastic Lesson..............I really enjoyed this
I love country music but suck at playing it. I love these country licks. I have to pick up the guitar now.

*Sighs ardently and looks at guitar*
Why doesn’t mine do that?
Mate, I swear I just heard my guitar sigh ardently and say "why can't you play like that"
Shit , I like Guthrie.A great teacher. Very smart guy I learn more from him than anybody here.
Thanks man!
I'd love to be able to finger pick fancy rockabilly country style riffs
"Let's have a lick at look Nr. 4."
Genius.
Looks like Guthrie had the ‘joint shifting’ technique down long before Steve did ...
Yeah!

I'm pretty sure your reference and use of Albatross and other songs in the other videos falls under fair use as it is an example used to illustrate your point.
I have Edge Zero bridge, to TremolNo available for that-no double-stop bends :(
Making it look easy
love it
Dude said hillbilly and I started laughing
Awesome
8:42 He basically fretted, tapped, bent and strummed at the same time
at 7:18, any risk of scratching your fretboard?
vibrato masterclass please :D

Well damn, by the time I'm done with that, maybe he'll have released another series...
Guthrie is (greater than) GOD!
it happened at 3:55
He actually did a mistake.
Giving us the bird I see.
2:45 on feels like i'm being given the finger in multiple different styles :P
The bloke is fucking genius. I want to jam with him on a Bog standard blues. But he's got to play rhythm 😂😂😂😂
Esta corda é de elástico kkkk perfeito.
All the comments are about Guthrie and not the lesson.Concentrate, you people.
