    Another brilliant video from Lauren. She ensures you can see what she is explaining by using highlighted areas on the guitar (throughout the video) to make the explanation clearer.
    This is a sign of a great teacher who understands and covers the individual learning style be it visual or spoken of trying to learn and improve your guitar techniques.

    Great video Lauren, I look forward to the complete series. I love your t-shirt. I was actually on the USS Ranger while they were filming the original Top Gun. At the time we were operating off the coast of San Diego. We pulled back into San Diego and I got temporary assigned duty orders to the USS Enterprise for more training while my ship was in-port. The film crew flew out to the Enterprise as well so I was lucky enough to see more behind the scenes. I'm actually in the movie because I worked on the flight deck however you really can't see me because the camera was moving left to right very fast as Maverick buzzed the island structure in his F-14. That's my 15th of a second of fame, Navy Mark...

    Lauren, thanks for the clarification on the finger picking 101 and where all this falls in the lesson plan. I’m thinking I should stick to the plan; I seem to try this and that and end up not doing any of it well. For sure I am miles ahead of where I was in June of last year, when I didn’t even know what guitar to buy. I’m really glad I found you!

    I took the first 3 chords from
    If You Want To Sing Out Sing Out (Yusef Cat Stevens), and tried fingerpicking them with different 4-string patterns and rhythyms.
    It's so beautiful!
    Kind of reminds me of the piano in Colour My World (Chicago)
    I feel like I discovered something.
    Big dopamine hit.

    Cool teaching, you do see a lot of " Country "player with the pinky on the guitar top like Chet Atkins ; other player like John Renbourn with the floating hand who do not rest the pinky on either the guitar top nor the string, is it more like Classical guitar?

    I’ve always wanted to finger pick a guitar but lost the end of my pointer finger in a accident hopefully I can work past that I just wonder would it be better or easier to try to use the pointer finger or try to learn using my middle finger as the pointer and using my little finger more pain will happen if I try to use the pointer but I think If I kept with it I could get used to it and not hurt it the only way I’ll hurt it is by missing the string and grabbing it instead of plucking it if that makes since then I might be crying lol

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Pointer and middle would work. You could do a lot with just those two fingers.

    Love your course, but if you don't mind me asking:
    Wouldn't it have been simpler and easier to understand by marking the fingers used as:
    *T* = *Thumb*
    *1* = *Index Finger*
    *2* = *Middle Finger*
    *3* = *Ring Finger*
    *4* = *Pinky Finger*
    As in simply label the fingers ( 1 through 4) the same way it's done with the chord charts?

    • @kingconger
      @kingconger ปีที่แล้ว +2

      From the Fender website:
      Taken from the classical guitar world, the letters in PIMA stand for the Spanish words for your fingers. It’s mapped like this:
      P = pulgar (thumb)
      I = indice (index finger)
      M = medio (middle finger)
      A = anular (ring finger)

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I do it this way in my course, but this is traditionally how it's done.

  • @michellematheson5275
    @michellematheson5275 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why not use T I M R ? Would be a lot easier for the beginner

    • @LaurenBateman
      @LaurenBateman  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's based off Spanish guitar technique: p = thumb (pulgar), i = index finger (índice), m = middle finger (medio), a = ring finger (anular)
