    If you are just starting out on the guitar and like fingerstyle guitar, you should take this course. Comes complete with a step by step study guide and encouragement. Ask my students, I don't assume anything nor leave anything out. Once you get the hang of the right hand (which for most people is the "coordinated hand,") the easy 1 fingered chords on the left hand will be a welcome relief to learning the standard chords which can take months for a lot of beginners. The goal here is to get you playing guitar as quickly as possible, and not looking at your guitar leaning against a wall in your house or wishing you can play. Let's do this right now!!! Let me know how I'm doing (and you too) by commenting below! bob

      I'm in my 60s, and I've tried learning to play guitar on a few occasions in the past decades (I used to play piano). No luck! However, I've just tried your first lesson, and it's going great! That fact that you go so slow and repeat things--and that you don't try to teach chords right off the bat--are making a big difference for me. Also, I've always had problems with placing my fingers on the frets--I usually got a muted sound or touched two strings instead of one. But with your instruction on how to hold the thumb and the finger on the fret, I'm getting the correct sound for once. I'm excited to learn more. Thanks so much for your great lessons and patience.

      Hey Googley Eyed (love that name!) Thanks for taking the lessons and I'm very happy to hear that they helped. I had a feeling that something like this song would be a great "Gateway" to playing guitar.. and don't worry, one step at a time,, the chords will come. When you get finished with this, please comment, either on this video or another and I'll send you to more songs (2 fingered chords!)... Thanks again and happy pickin' ! bob

    No joke, this is the best guitar lesson I have ever had. I've never picked up a guitar before, so the way he explained this and how patient he was plus the repetition of playing notes really helped me pick it up quick. It was a fun lesson and I'm finally starting to learn, thanks so much 🤘

    I'll be 70 years old soon. I started playing the guitar 46 years ago hilly billy style strumming. Self taught and with help from friends learning some chords from them. I can't afford to attend guitar classes those days and there wasn't internet available. I stopped playing for about 31 years ago and now I wish to pick it up again but learning the fingerpicking style. Today whilst serving the internet I found your site which was quite interesting and without any hesitation I am now subscribing. I would like to learn it as fast as I can. God willing I think I will be able to. Tks

    Bob Harris is the best guitar teacher for me.
    I don’t know music, never played a guitar and in my 50s.
    Somehow Bob has an easy way to explain in detail how to best play a guitar.
    Normally I get frustrated easily if I don’t hear results quickly but somehow with his beginners lessons I just got hooked to keep and keep practicing maybe because my guitar sounded good from his first lesson, that was encouraging and exciting.
    I am on my first weeks learning guitar with Bob and I am looking forward to continue for years to come.
    Thank you Bob!

      Hi Luis... WOW...!!! what can I even say. This is so nice of you to write such a kind letter, and it's letters like this that keep me going, which hasn't been that easy for me in the last few years. I think most people give up because it is frustrating. Frustration is a major part of the guitar. Some days it's all there and other days you don't even know why you are trying to play. The main thing is to love the sound of the music and enjoy it. Very happy to have you as my student and please keep in touch and let me know how you are doing any time.!!! Happy Pickin' !! bob

      Hi Marco, thank you so much for the kind words and mainly, I'm very happy that the lessons are helping! I am not a schooled teacher and perhaps that is a good thing, as all I care about is if you are able to play the pattern (seemed the easiest way I could explain it). Now I'm hoping you will continue with the whole series and more fingerpicking as each course goes a little further with the degree of difficulty. There's also a free study guide on this course that will help a lot with more videos that are not public on TH-cam- (e mail me in case you didn't find the link- acousticguitarvideos@gmail.com) If you need any help, please let me know. Also too, and I'm guessing you know this... doing a little each day is better than a lot one day and then waiting a week. You won't remember what you did last week and have to start over again. I picked up a Yamaha for $120.00 and a good chinese acoustic that normally sold for $120 for only $15 bucks 🤩😁 (need to sand sound the frets though but still good. Just look up how to on TH-cam). Hi Dyan, get this pattern down first and play it steady. The real trick to fingerstyle guitar is getting in a groove with it, to make simple things sound nice. If you already know other chords, the first note you play with this pattern in each measure is the root note of the chord. So a G chord is a G note, 3 frets up on the 6th string..An A chord is open 5th string, D chord is open 4th string, C chord 3 frets up 5th stringC note). etc., The cool thing about this style is, the pattern doesn't change, just the strings we pluck. Hope this helps and God Bless you too Dyan!!

    • @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons
      @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Iconic_Flower Girl, how many times I thought the same thing. With a serious injury back in 1990 to my left hand, I didn't think I would ever be able to move my ring and pinky fingers again. I did a lot of healthy things instead of surgery (glad I didn't go that route). They move now, not as well, but playing guitar helps. Your coordination will come if you can do a little bit every day- just small amounts. The key is not to get ahead of yourself and feel the reward with small progress. Over time you will be able to do things on the guitar that were not possible today- those are the milestones that I and everyone else that plays look forward to. Wishing you the best and hope you keep going... bob!

    • @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons
      @AcousticGuitarVideosLessons  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cat90yearsago58 It's easier on the left hand because mostly you don't have to play the full chords like you would need to for strumming. The right hand (which is usually the coordinated hand for most) is more difficult than strumming but very do-able if you learn in steps and go slow. Hey Kerri,, sounds like you got the drill down! Basically these videos speed by (can't make a 2 hour video here on TH-cam and put the audience to sleep). So I do recommend going back over it all and taking one section at a time and doing a lot of reps. Since this fingerpicking is like juggling, it does take some time to get the coordination down. The goal here is to not use your brain so much and get your hands to remember how to automatically do it (muscle memory). But like I said, it sounds like you know the drill!! Let me know if you need any help as well... (but you are doing fantastic!).... happy pickin' !!! YEAH!!!!

    I have been practicing for a while now but I’ve struggled with strumming. I’ve always enjoyed listening to finger-style guitar and the instructions here are so very well explained that I’m going to dive in a give it a try. Fantastic job! You must have some experience teaching…you’re great at it. Thanks for all the work.

      Hey Rick, great to hear from you and thank you for taking the lesson and the kind words. Actually there's some easier aspects to fingerpicking- as example, not having to play full chords in many cases. I also think it's an easier way for a beginner to make music quicker. I'm glad to help and I hope you get the free study guide too which has more videos for this series ( not posted here). You can e mail me at acousticguitarvideos@gmail.com if you don't see the link in the description area. Wishing you a great new year 2022 on your guitar!!

      @@AcousticGuitarVideosLessons I have the guide thanks.
      My wife has never picked up a guitar in her life and last night I taught her the 6, 4, 2-3, 4, the 5, 4, 2-3, 4 and the 4, 3, 1-2, 3 fingerpicking I saw in one of your other videos. She picked it up very quickly so we have both decided to follow along with the remainder in the series.
      You’ll never believe how much easier they are to follow than literally any other videos I’ve ever watched.
      You get a 10+ out of 10 from me. I’m very grateful to have found them.

      @@CharlesvilleNS wow!! that is so awesome that your wife is picking this so quickly. How cool is both of you playing together!!!
      Thank you both for actually taking the lesson and working on it, as it seems a lot of people these days only have 1 minute to become a guitar master (ha ha). I've been at it for 55 years and I'm still trying. I'm glad you have the study guide and just holler at me if you need any help.
      BTW, I'm looking now and didn't answer your one of your questions. I am a studio musician and record producer for my living and guitar lessons are fairly new for me (since 2014). I really love it because it's such a thrill to hear from someone that they are able to play, I can't even describe the feeling- your comments a great start to the new year for me!!

      Hi Rikki, great to hear from you and good going on making it to lesson 2! Sounds like you found a good solution to playing time. If you are getting in 10-15 minutes a day, that is way more than most people will do. Also the slow is a good thing too as it makes it so that the music goes into you permanent memory which I think I talk about in the study guide. I think you are doing great. - big thanks for taking the lessons here with me!! bob

    Love your teaching methods. SO easy to understand. This may be a stupid question, but...my hands are SO small, fingers very tiny ( and all the same length. I was born with a hand deformity) and let’s not leave out that I’m almost 61 and have arthritis!). I’ve been a music lover all my life. Played flute and piccolo into my college years. No one can tell me “ You can’t do this!” I’m determined to learn guitar. I was advised to start out on an electric guitar because it’s easier on the fingers. The fret board was WAY to big for my tiny hands. Gave that one to my daughter, and bought a mini Fender. Honestly, it’s STILL a challenge but I’m going to do this!!!
    Sorry...I got off topic there. So, my stupid question is, can I apply your Fingerpicking lessons to an electric guitar?
    Thanks in advance for your answer, Bob!

      Hi Mindy! I am sorry for the delay as I haven't had the chance to answer here for a while. Hope you are still doing good with your electric guitar + fingerstyle, which is a very popular sound. In fact, the pattern we are learning here was made popular by Merle Travis on the electric guitar. Chet Atkins also did the fingerstyle on his electric guitar. So yes to playing electric!!!! hope you are having fun!! bob

      Hi Bob great to see your message (I feel honoured 😊). Yes I play some chords, standards - D E G A etc. I've learnt a lot of bad habits which hold my standard of playing back, and haven't put effort or enough attention to improving my technique and knowledge ( just been relying on the same old poor routine, but realised I could be much better). I'm enjoying the tutorials, like others have commented your style of teaching is brilliant for beginners, you explain things very well and at a pace I can keep up with. Although still very raw and in need of work, I can now fingerpick 'country roads'. I hope you do develop a strumming tutorial series too.
