It’s expensive for an 8 yr, but it’s the best rum I’ve ever tasted. It could be worth more, just on taste. Tied with Port Charlotte Scotch for best spirit on earth.
Can find this in my area (Massachusetts, USA) for $55-65USD. Well worth it!
Burlington wine and spirits had it on sale for $59.99 the last time I went by there in April. It was good, but I feel like it's a mixer and not quite a sipper. I'll probably stick to S&C for anything I want to use this one for.
Its a proper funky tasting one i love it.
I’ve been waiting for this one. I love Hampden. Love it. Neat and in Mai Tai. Simply the best. I get it much cheaper but I would restock it at UK price aswell
Fortunately the price here in Atlanta is more forgiving, at $65 it's an easy call to restock for me 😁
I can find it here in Germany for 55 euro but it’s still a steep price
We're deffo not laughing in the EU Steve coz the cheapest I can lay my hands on this is 62 EUR which is twice the price of the Xaymaca! The only way I'd buy this is if it's available under 50EUR at a duty free... Fingers crossed you're able to find a more affordable option 🤞🤞🤞
Yeah i'm surprised its not coming in that much cheaper in the US either. Real shame...
I'm really liking this series, probably because I've tasted a lot of these rums :) I think I paid 60 euro for the Hampden 8 Year

Not tried Hamden yet but my current favourite mai tai is now my “aged” Wray and nephew mai tai (I did bring down the AVB to 46%)

@@StevetheBarmanRumReviews I have a one litre aging barrel. I “aged” the Wray and nephew for 60days which gives the the taste profile of around 2 years. Rule of thumb is 1 month of aging is equivalent to 1 years aging flavour profile as it’s only a litres worth of booze it covers more surface area of the 1lt barrel.
Granted it’s not “officially” 2 years aged but the flavour profile is what you would expect from a 2 year old Wray and nephew
Apparently aging wray and nephew this way get us in the same ball park of what the Wray and nephew 17 would taste like…..hence a potentially similar flavoured original mai tai lol
Also as I brought down the AVB from 63% to 46% helped me get near 2 full 70cl bottles out of 1lt of rum.

I’m currently aging some bourbon to “season” the barrel so I can age the next batch of W&N
Looking forward to comparing the two batches as 1st batch was straight into a virgin barrel
Going down to 46 would be real low for me 😂, I'm usually 50 abv and up. Hampden really comes alive between 55-60. If you can get the hlcf classic that'd be even better
Just got a bottle of this today. Very nice, but I'm not sure if I prefer the Smith & Cross to this...I need to drink a bit more of it
Hello Steve. In France, the cheapest is €58 but it's well worth it 👍. Otherwise there is Hampden Younger at 55€ with a banana flavor but with less character. There is also Mézan XO (Worthy Park) at 35€ which is a very good price for this quality also with a banana flavor.

I bough myself a bottle of this a few week ago and looking forward to drinking it but feel I need to wait for an occasion as it cost so much!
I still can't justify it as a Cocktail Rum. Its great, but not double the price great.
I paid 50€ for the Hampden 8YO on Amazon [Germany] :). German prices are waaaay below what you have to pay in the UK...breaks my heart you have to spent so much!
I love this rum as well! since I still think it's expensive, I only tried it neat but going to do a Mai Tai Battle: Kevin Crossman's Ultimate vs. Hampden 8YO :D!
Ha, yeah. Swings and roundabouts. We do pay a lot in Alcohol Tax & Duty. But we get good deals on other things in regard to cost of living...compared to some other countries.
I tried this one neat along side Worthy Park 101, and I enjoyed the 101 more. However, as a rum and cola, the Hampdens is something else! Is it a new deadly sin to buy it for mixing? 🙈
I love this rum. Bought it earlier this year. Then I paid 749 SEK for a bottle, around 67 usd in todays rates. Very worth that price.
Now the price has increased significantly to 1075 SEK. That 96 usd. Crazy amount for an 8 year old rum. Its not worth that much.
Its a money grab from the importer. Rum is on the rise and Hampden is at the front of that wave. They take advantage of that. An increase of +40% in 3 months isnt reasonable. Because of their actions, I avoid buying their other stuff. I actively tell others to do the same. I dont want rum to become what the Whisky scene is today. But it will because of actors/behaviour like that insane price hike.
How does it compare to Dr Bird?

Just bought a bottle as £10 off in sale (royal Mile Whiskies) and had a voucher.
Many malt heads race about Hampden but I've never tried it. Love Smith and Cross though so should enjoy the style. Also love a Pussers Navy strength rum.
