      They should consult with Robyn Smith, PhD from This Blog's Neat for the technical stuff. She's a chemist who specializes in distillation and spirits. I believe she's also in California but not sure if Northern or Southern Callie.

    Don't have any Rum Fire yet but I did just get a bottle of Wray and Nephew overproof for Christmas and have been looking for more recipes to make with it. This is going on the list for sure even though that 3 oz pour does seem a little steep. Only one way to find out I guess.

    Rum Fire is probably a top 5 rum for me. It's just so good. I really love it in a Kingston Negroni as well. I've never heard of this drink so I'm excited to make it soon. Give me the funk. Gotta have that funk.

    Rum fire is the best I ever used for Tikki drinks. It’s great, I add it to many rum based drinks and it never disappoints. I don’t know if my nose is a little off but I smell so much ripe banana flavor when I smell on the bottle. For me it’s close to banana liquor like Tempus fugit.

  • @roundup1253
    @roundup1253 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I now made this drink and true, it’s marvelous. IMHO 9 cl Rumfire is clearly too much. I took 6 cl Rumfire and 3 cl Plantation 3 Stars and still Rumfire cuts easily through. It’s the finest arome of an Jamaican Rum I can imagine. I smell only ripe bananas and caramel so it’s a very satisfying mouth feel but I think you can spare half of the Rum Fire amount and still have a super aroma cocktail and it’s a little easier to approach for most people… congrats what a nice drink

    I've seen comments of either Rum Fire or Rum Bar Overproof being the best white overproof Jamaican rum but neither one is clearly seen as better than the other -- it's always one is preferred over the other by a hair. Rum Bar is made by Worthy Park Estate, so I guess it boils down to if you like Hampden or W.P. more? I've also seen a consensus that Wray & Nephew is the "entry level" overproof rum due to its lower ester count. I say: get all three and try them out!

    • @afinecupofcoffee8476

      I've never had Rum Bar. I used to get W&N but when I saw Rum Fire for the first time I asked the liquor store employee about it and he said "Think W&N but the wild funky cousin of W&N" and I was like "wtf I thought W&N WAS funky". The rest is history. I only get W&N now if I can't get Rum Fire.

    Finally got some Run Fire and made cinnamon syrup, and this cocktail is just _too_ much for me. @therumrevival is an animal, and props to him for enjoying such intense flavor - I'm going to need years to work into liking the chemical tastes of some of these "high-ester" rums, they're wild. I thought Smith & Cross was intense, but it's got nothing on Rum Fire. Maybe I'll try making a variation with other rums for 2 of the ounces...

    Excellent video. Bonus points for the trippy intro.
    So a distillate or mark is a basic rum recipe prior to aging and blending. And Hampden takes its distillate code named HLCF, doesn't age or blend it, and markets it, unaltered, as Rum Fire. Is that right? Is that a common thing for distillers to do?

    • @makeanddrink
      @makeanddrink  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Marks or Marques are specific distillates that are registered with the Jamaica Spirit Pool. Those marks are given names by the distilleries and often named after someone or have a historical context, they also have an ester range. Rum Fire happens to be the HLCF mark and is not blended with any other marks. While the Spirit Pool and registering of marks is uniquely Jamaican (I believe) other distilleries have similar processes in other countries. If you look around the Cocktail Wonk website you'll find loads of very interesting info about marks and Jamaican distilleries.
      The most famous of the marks is probably Plummer and Wedderburn as those are not only used in Smith & Cross but they are printed on the front label.

      It’s definitely not a cocktail for those that are not fans of white Jamaican overproof. This was the first time I had experienced this drink and I had it as the first cocktail I had for that day and I thoroughly enjoyed it. So I get where someone might not like it, but it’s not a balanced drink. Negronis are not balanced and this has that vibe and many of the cocktails I enjoy are not balanced(Demerara Dry Float for instance).
      Hopefully it was at least a memorable experience and who knows, maybe one day it will be your favorite drink.
