Nice fish mate not sure what you thought was wrong with the lure rig you pulled out the trace was too short but was probably a brought trace from a tackle shop I see these things for sale in almost all small local tackle dealers and the tackle dealer should be stopped iselling them but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with open jig head not everybody fishes a weed less setup I often fish Ned’s and they are open i also fish big jig heads on large softbaits my traces are titanium single strand but the open hook is fine

The rig I pulled out was wrong for several reasons.
      1. The trace was too heavy for the rig….not balanced.
If I was Perch fishing & I thought Pike would take the lure I would use a thin wire trace & no swivel. I would attach it via an Albright knot to a leader. This then would make the whole system balanced & not clonky looking. It would fish far more efficiently.
      2. Why use a trace when targeting Perch. There are very few Pike in this stretch. Over the years they have been taken…sadly.
      3. The exposed hook was only ever going to get snagged. This water is festooned with willow branches, shopping trolleys, tree roots etc etc
Hopefully you can see how I would approach such a situation.
Thank you taking the time to comment 🙏

@@FenlandFishingTV as I said tackle shop trace them cheap things should be outlawed why do people use them because they know no better
I use 18 inch trace for pike I’ve had 20s swallow magnum dawgs to the guts almost and that’s a 12 inch lure so them little plugs people throw around can quite easily be swallowed trace and all did look short that one obviously I can only see what you showed perhaps as you have a following you should do video about them poor traces from local tackle shops some of those aren’t even 8 inch long joke they sell them
