It’s very true but the conditions were so bad it really was a shock, but the car wasn’t too far away! So we managed to retain it safely pretty shortly after we landed it 👌🏼
@@markperry-dx2sq not haters we care for our sport if u have a big net use it especially when your making TH-cam videos people will copy as they learn from you let them copy the right way some fish will get injured with less experienced anglers.
Decent vid bro was deffo a good watch👌also I know from experience it’s always when you’re least prepared or least expect it those big girls strike keep at it mate you will deffo have that 20 I can assure you👊
No worries mate, you will get the big girl eventually. It took me 7 years to catch a 40lb linear carp from the local canal. Had him again twice the next year. Sometimes the chase is better than the catch. It's fun fishing for a target, you still have that :)
Keep at it mate!!! You’re closer than you think!!! I spent 20 years inching closer and closer to the magical 20lber….. campaigning on the fenland drains…… my first over 20 was 32.2!!!! Still to this day not had a twenty!!! Keep the faith brother…..
I'm not a pike angler and I've always fished for carp but something about this video really makes me want to give it a go! Although you didnt get the 20lber you desire those 19lb 8oz PB's were awesome! Great video mate.
So I watched this video, last Sunday at 12:00. And then all geared up I went at 13:30 for some pike fishing in my direct neighbourhood (bike distance). I caught a probably 30+ lbs pike in some small side water of a lake, by far the heaviest ever in 30 year pike fishing. Below 1 meter probably, but fat like a carp. I saw it take my streamer. Really great experience. Thanks for your inspirational video. And good luck on your hunt. Greetings from Rotterdam, the Netherlands
@@CalAndDani Thanks! Maybe your 20 lbs pike comes when you least ecpect it. But size and weight in the end don't really matter. Enjoy your fishing. And keep posting those videos!
Quality look back Cal, really thought the vid was gonna finish with a 20! Some cracking fish none the less. Might see you by the iron bridge if youre back on your old stomping grounds anytime.
This is so interesting to me. Seems really common to use dead bait in the uk, how come? It’s very uncommon here in Sweden, we use big soft baits, swim baits, jerk baits and so on when fishing for pike.
Wow what amazing Pike. They look really healthy aswell. Great catches Have you ever fished the lochs for Pike? There are some real monsters in some of them lochs. They are a lot stronger then the river pike aswell. I held the rod once when some one else caught a 30 pounder while they had to go and get a landing net out of their van. It felt like a lump of concrete. My record is still only 17lbs lol Been trying to beat my friend for 17 years hahaha
Weight of pike varies quite a lot depending on the time of year and other factors. I'm from the Netherlands and we only measure the length of the pike because it's more accurate and consistent to compare and it's also less of a hassle plus it takes less time.
Like the video well made and your narrating is good. As some of the others have said you need a bigger net. Pike are very fragile and bending the big girls in the net is not good for them. An unhooking mat should also be used as pike are very fragile creatures. Drop off indicators should also be used to positively show runs where possible as well or you miss a tentative take and end up witha Deeply hooked pike which is not good for you or them. As I say keep going loads of vids and books on pike fishing that can help you in your quest. Try using bigger baits as you don’t have to cast far for pike a lot of the time, especially on rivers . Good luck and keep going some huge pike in the Thames
Thank you! We made this video and within it theres the rig we usually use “Catching Legendary Pike On The Great Ouse River (HUGE FISH) th-cam.com/video/yvrINkinBxQ/w-d-xo.html”

As a Scotsman yous are so lucky to have all those species in rivers. Scotland is supposed to be famous for pike and salmon. But really the canals are shit and salmon are very hard to catch. Would love to be able to head down the river and have the option of chub barbel tench pike carp perch . It's shite being Scottish 😅
See you up bury fields one time, but just to rub salt it, had my first river 20 (21:01) on my first session of this season from the ouse 😜 took my 2 years though ha
That weir pool is 5minutes from house I’ve spent hours this winter down there pike to 18lb 16lb three around 15lb & a hand full of doubles. Go roach fishing there buddy then the pike turn up, brilliant day fishing. Try fishing the swim to the left of where you are not far out just under the trees. I’ve had my pb perch there as well 3lb 7oz. Great video mate & tight lines 👍🏻
I went 15 years without a winter carp, then lost one and banked a second in 30 minutes on January 6th last year. Then had another in December just gone. Patience is key in fishing, but doing the same thing hoping for a different result doesn't work.

I honestly don't know, it always seems to catch the bigger pike using dead baits.
Go Cal! Well done sticking it buddy.

Nice vid! However, why don’t u use a whole mackerel, and only half? I’ve always had big fish on big deadbaits. Maybe try and give that a go next time
We have used whole mackerel before but never really caught on it, we prefer to cut it in half so the juices flow out, and it's much easier to cast.
