Here's an example of a live performance being MUCH better than the recorded version. The percussion and drums are so much bigger, and her vocals are spine chilling. I think this is Cyndi's best live performance ever!
This has to be the best live performance I have ever heard/seen from any artist. The amount of talent and emotion it took to pull off this performance is insane.
Fully agree, I got to see Cyndi during this tour and she is Magnificent live and this song is a stand out stand alone song from her. You know this was no ordinary friend of hers !
The way she gives it up for Boy Blue in this increasingly intense and then unstoppable avalanche of anger and loss is simply astonishing. It is so much more than a mere "performance". It is real. And yes, of course. It does help to understand why....
@@markysparky8566she wrote it for her best friend Gregory who died of AIDS. He was kicked out of his home by his mother as a kid for being gay. Cyndi loved him so much ❤ she wanted this song to be a hit so badly for him. But now, she dedicates True Colors to him
Here is a woman that stood up to the suits (not just men but women too), took control of her career, sacrificed sales and popularity to stay true to her work and vision ... and is rarely recognized for her work or for the fact that she is still going strong despite any support from Radio or a strong commercial outlet .. SHE deserves all the life time achievement awards that the Music Industry has to offer - She is Rock n' Roll Royalty and She is Pop Culture ... She is, Cyndi Lauper.
Fabrice4705, your sentiments are spot on. ;) I'm pleased to reassure you the giants in the industry do now recognise Cyndi as "American Royalty". I've been fortunate to meet her twice, (2013 & 2018) she's totally awesome and beyond words of compassion. This performance is epic! ;)
Probably the best female vocalist pop music has ever seen. Even Mariah Carey can't duplicate her best stuff live. Cyndi never got the credit she deserves.
What a performance, I've always loved this song, Rick Derringer I've seen with johnny and Edgar winter in San Francisco in the 60s Day on the green !!! So much passion and energy. Even on a screen you could feel the vibes... Amazing Energy !! Wow she's 67 today 2020 Born 1953...
Few singers sound good live but she is an exception. This woman has always been a fascination to watch! This song should've been given more recognition!
Absolutely incredible energy in this video. After all these years this is still one of the best live performances out there. Kudos to Cyndi for pulling together some awesome talent for her band: Rick Derringer (lead guitar), Sue Hadjapoulos (percussion), Sterling Campbell (drums)...
This performance (and song) will always be a huge favorite of mine. Very few live performances give me the goosebumps, but this one gets me EVERY time. Really now.. how many singers of today can practically scream while singing and still sound amazing? I wish so much that Cyndi got the recognition in the 80s that she should have. Unfortunately, I think the US just wasn't ready for her quirkiness (which is what I adore most about her). I freakin' adore the woman.. always have, always will!
Estuve presente en este concierto en el Zénith de Paris. Esta version es la mas inolvidable de todo su concierto. Nunca he visto cantar a una artista con tanta fuerza, pasion y amor como lo vi esa noche con Cindy. Love for ever. Simply the Best !!!
Cyndi was so ahead of her times in terms of fashion. EVERYONE is trying to get the look she had, but nobody will compare. Also read her memoir recently, (incredible) and it was really interesting to read the full detailed reasoning behind this song and others. She went through such a hard time in the industry, and I can't even comprehend how, because she can sing like no other!
I was never really into Cyndi Lauper, but this live version of her song is incredible. It's a nice departure from her regular pop style. She can be very intense!!
Great version, the reason its longer than original she was upset about her friend and kept singing part of the song so the band followed suit and played along. Amazing!
An inspirational woman with an incredible voice; to be able to even sing those insanely high notes at all is an achievement, but to do it live, flawlessly and consistently, with that much energy and raw power... that's pure talent.
A beautiful tribute to a friend of Cyndi's who died from Aids her passion that voice always was and always will be an amazing talent a very unique and underrated singer .
I listened to this song over and over and over in the 80s. I never got sick of it, and I never forgot how it made me feel. I still love it as much now as I did then. And this is an amazing performance! I miss live performances. No one can do this now. No one even tries!
Aside from Janis Joplin, I can't think of any other female singer pouring her heart and soul so intensely into a song like Cyndi Lauper here ... I'm always reminded that Cyndi Lauper in this period of time being the greatest female singer I've had the good luck to listen to ..
I know some others: Tina Turner ("The Acid Queen"), Stevie Nicks (look up 1976's live Rosebud performance of "Rhiannon"), Siouxsie Sioux (the Nocturne concert in 1983), Pat Benatar (her discography in general and her live performances). Cyndi is definitely one of the best, and still is. I give much respect to her.
Tina Turner, Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks definitely have some great songs that I love, I have not heard of Sioux, will give her a try .. Cyndi Lauper will always have a special place in my heart, her tone just resonates in my soul especially her works in the 80s, there are a couple of great songs she did during the 2000s but her most of her best stuffs will always be her 80s stuffs ...
@@anthonyyoutubefan7567 Oh yes. The "Rhiannon" of Stevie Nicks back in 1975/1976, was out of this World. Tina Turner is a super passionated singer too and Patti Labelle did a great job in 1985 Live Aid.
I would have worn out her True Colours album ten times over on cassette. The sound that album had was ahead of it's time. The synths and the dive bomb guitars gave the album that extra flair.
I saw her live at this very concert. One of the best gigs I have ever been to, even after 31 years! Le Zenith was a fairly new concert hall at the time as well, fairly common size now but at the time it was huge.
This live performance rocks. I've seen Cyndi about 20 times in concert. Her live performances are where the bar is set. Just another example of how talented ms lauper is...bravo,cyndi,bravo.
Can't say why people compared Cyndi and Madonna all the time ! They are just so different. i do not know Madonna's message as an artist but Cyndi's message helps me feel good everytime i hear a tune from her.
Madonna has the same message and they both were some of the few artist speaking up about aids and supporting LGBT community. You should listen to Madonna's Why is it so hard or In this life, two beautiful songs with great messages.

It is REALLY disturbing when people like yourself try to ever so slightly push the dialog away from the issue, can it.
