Hi David, I'm sorry buddy ❤️ everything's going to be all right. I just thought you should know that she might have left the hospital 10 minutes prior to your arrival but it was that last 10 minutes she wanted to spend with you in the car just the two of you and she did and she was there and she did not tell you goodbye more like when I see you again! ❤❤ And that is an encouraging thought.

I cant believe Im 50 years old, have seen this literally hundreds of times over 34 years (its one of my favorites), and I think I just now understood the story in the video: She never made it. There was an accident (with the wrecked white car?) and now shes haunting that lonely stretch of desert road in her Chevy coupe and lingering in his apartment near the Vegas strip. She always sees it as she imagined with him sleeping, waiting for her. Shes still driving. Dying to get to him. All night. Forever.
OMG “But I was dying to get to you.” And she did literally. Also “I was dreaming while I drove” She fell asleep on the wheel while driving all night, dreaming about her lover. “This fever for you is just burning me up inside” I think this is the instant her car crashes, the climax of her fantasy, burning for her lover in her dream while burning in real life from the car crash.
For those wondering - the drummer is Steve Ferrone who's backed many of the biggest names in rock and pop. It sounds deceptively simple, but he's actually playing with enormous accuracy and consistency, beautifully underpinning Cyndi's voice. You notice the beat without losing any focus on her narrative. A brilliant, underrated journeyman you've heard dozens of times without knowing.
+giorgos makris You do realize that the great one Celine Dion sang it. I will go with the she is absolutely amazing part. It is like Whitney signing a Dolly Parton song. You can love both versions.
+dla734 Whitney butchered I will always love you. That song shoul be sung as a simple song from a pure heart, and not as the voice-masturbation-ego-trip that Whitney made of it. Same here: Some Songs are not for the main stage, but for the honest face to face Performance.

Madonna overshadowed cyndi, but cyndi is a way better singer than madonna could ever hope to be. Cyndi has one of the most expressive, versatile vocal ranges out there.
She overshadowed nobody, because Lauper is an excellent singer. Madonna sales more because she was naked and with the tongue on the micro. That were interesting in the 80s-. But who admires talented vocal artists admires Lauper. Talent not always means more sales. Look at Beethoven and Mozart in the poverty.

@@dwilli3660 Well, if you look at money, but at talent, Madonna was overshadowed by Lauper. I would prefer to have talent, In any case Lauper can live her entire life without working since the 80s, but talent cannot be bought with anything. No money can buy it. And Cyndi has too much.
Lauper the better singer sold 50 million albums Maddonna the lesser talent sold 400 million albums. You can't win this argument. Facts are facts, madonna completely overshadowed cindi. @Screaming Mimi's Everyone who watched her? Who is everyone? You? What utter rubbish. You were there in the early 80's? I'm really sick of halfwit children commenting on artists they never even experienced and know nothing about.
I just saw Cyndi last night at the Montreal show, where she just kicked off her farewell tour and no joke as soon as she started singing this, the audience went wild!
@TEL_02 If you mean that if the song was specifically written for a film, it was not. It was, however, featured in "Paperback Hero," a 1999 Australian romantic comedy with Hugh Jackman.
I've always loved "Cyndi Lophead", she rules. Fearless vulnerability, integrity, and true to herself. Timeless music only surpassed by her generous humanity. We need a million more like her.
Around the mid nineties I saw Cyndi in Sydney at the State Theatre. Cyndi opened with "Hole In My Heart" and jumped down from the stage to dance with the audience. I have seen Cyndi in concert several times and her voice live is so true and powerful.
This is one of the gems from the 80's that is overlooked. This song blew me away back in 1989 when it came out and still amazes me almost 30 years later. That woman knows how to sing like nobody's business.
Yep! Cindi sure sang this song way before Celine and Cindi's version is way way way much much much better than Celine's. Song was originally intended for Roy Orbison who recorded it in 1987 a year before his death but wasn't released until 1992. By the time his version was released Cindi who already was very popular and famous sang the song 3 years earlier. Celine only sang her version in 2003.
Lorenshyne well, is tricky, but the song was written for Orbison, and he recorded it before anyone else, but since he died so quickly after that, they asked Cindi to release the first version, although Orbison’s was recorded before
The technicality of her singing, the character and unique vocal style, her iconic looks, her energy, her personality, her songs, her humour, her emotion... I could go on... there isn’t one of these elements that can be bettered by another artist and she has ALL OF THEM
@Victor R. Karen was a wonderful artist particularly when it came to the more emotional songs; but to quote Cindy she’s indeed “like a rainbow” with the palette she has. Never got into journey. I know very little of the other two. I’ve personally not found anyone quite like her
she not just singing, so wonderfully, her interpretation of this song is mind blowing in every way, what is she doing now? its singing and enacting this drama, its so artful, i can play it all night long
+Juju Rellama When I listen to her, I often have a marathon session where the album repeats over and over again. I love this song in particular. Its so powerful. To use a Newfoundland colloquialism "She can belt it out of her!" :) I love the power in her voice. And the musical arrangements are great too. I listened to Celine Dion's "interpretation" of this song and I couldn't listen to it all the way through. She was doing her own take but just mangled it somehow. :) I never appreciated Cyndi Lauper's true talent until later on. I realize she's one of my favorites. Blows Madonna, Britney, etc out of the water!

She is so talented. One word to describe her: "icon". Thank you for your legacy and for the joy you gave and still give to those like me were teennagers during the 80s'
This is a masterpiece! Maybe I'm old and I don't understand the new music, but music that is made back in '80s and '90s is much better than the rubbish that is produced today.
Except for the fact that many of the 80’s and 90’s artists are still making music. Cher has done some amazing things, so has Cindy and some others. You just don’t hear about it as much.
There's good music out there. You just got to go looking for it. Do some internet searching for live performances for singer-songwriters. Pick a style of music you like, such as blues or classic rock or new wave or whatever. It's out there - it just doesn't have the money and the hype behind it. You'll find it; I know you will.
@@vivianeferreiradefigueired2777This seems to be the most inpired female version. But to me, only Roy Orbinson interprets, anguish, passion and tenderness in the true measure of a man in love. It's so visceral that I feel in that role every time I listen to it.

+Rich Jacob who deleted their comments! Yea, same old story. My sisters tell me the same thing, even to point that I was responsible for being too sensitive as twelve year old kid. I'm not a psychologist but all I know is I grew up with extremely low self-esteem. How do you fix that? I was told how worthless and stupid I was from 11 to 18. I grew up with a volatile father who would slap me across the floor for dropping my fork at the table. Abuse does permanent damage to a kid. Those in the war knew what could happen, even though that probably didn’t make things easier, but a 12 year old kid is an open book and handled wrong???

@@marymcdoangh5835 Roy recorded it in 1987 before his death in 1988. Cyndi recorded and released her version in 1989. Roy's recording was released in 1991, with an album release in 1992. So no, Roy didn't cover it.
"I Drove All Night" is a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and originally intended for Roy Orbison. O
I’m a huge Roy Orbison fan, but I love this version so much!!!!
I cant believe Im 50 years old, have seen this literally hundreds of times over 34 years (its one of my favorites), and I think I just now understood the story in the video:
She never made it.
All night.
Forever.
😮 oh my!
i believe you've hit the nail on the head, the car, the fact she walks like a ghost (see-through) into his room etc. All makes sense now.
@@donnamcmahon251 crock of shit
OMG “But I was dying to get to you.” And she did literally. Also “I was dreaming while I drove” She fell asleep on the wheel while driving all night, dreaming about her lover. “This fever for you is just burning me up inside” I think this is the instant her car crashes, the climax of her fantasy, burning for her lover in her dream while burning in real life from the car crash.
Wow--this adds a whole new dimension to this video for me. Thank you.
1992: Damn, this song rocks and Cindi has a hell of a voice.
2022: Damn, this song still rocks. Cindi's range was greatly underappreciated in her day.

Absolutely one of the top 25 best songs of the 1980,s....haunting, have never forgotten it...

I thought Roy Orbison did this.
He recorded a demo. From Wikipedia: "a song written and composed by American songwriters Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly and made famous by American singer Cyndi Lauper. The song was originally intended for Roy Orbison, who recorded it in 1987, but his rendition was not released until 1992, after Lauper's version of it had become a top 10 hit on both sides of the Atlantic in 1989"
Madonna overshadowed cyndi, but cyndi is a way better singer than madonna could ever hope to be. Cyndi has one of the most expressive, versatile vocal ranges out there.
So expressive! It feels like she gives away a piece of her heart everytime she sings
@@KarinaC-xc6hm cindy lauder net worth 50 million

Cindi way better singer, much more talented than madonna ever could be.
Cindi way overshadowed by madonna
@@dwilli3660
Well, if you look at money, but at talent, Madonna was overshadowed by Lauper. I would prefer to have talent, In any case Lauper can live her entire life without working since the 80s, but talent cannot be bought with anything. No money can buy it. And Cyndi has too much.
Lauper the better singer sold 50 million albums
Maddonna the lesser talent sold 400 million albums. You can't win this argument. Facts are facts, madonna completely overshadowed cindi. It's a shame, she has way less talent but numbers don't lie. Give it up madonna had a way better management and promotions team.@@KarinaC-xc6hm

@Screaming Mimi's Everyone who watched her? Who is everyone? You? What utter rubbish. You were there in the early 80's? I'm really sick of halfwit children commenting on artists they never even experienced and know nothing about.
The drumbeat sounding like a pounding heart. I shed a tear every time at the awesomeness of her vocal and her believable longing.
Bellisimo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just saw Cyndi last night at the Montreal show, where she just kicked off her farewell tour and no joke as soon as she started singing this, the audience went wild!
Far and away the best and ballsiest version. Love the drums in this and the way Cyndi's voice hits the roof towards the end.
right on
You should listen to Roy Orbison's version, his range was incredible for a male. He could hit notes that were operatic!

I Love music.
So this was earlier or Roy Orbisons?
Lorenshyne well, is tricky, but the song was written for Orbison, and he recorded it before anyone else, but since he died so quickly after that, they asked Cindi to release the first version, although Orbison’s was recorded before

The technicality of her singing, the character and unique vocal style, her iconic looks, her energy, her personality, her songs, her humour, her emotion... I could go on... there isn’t one of these elements that can be bettered by another artist and she has ALL OF THEM

To use a Newfoundland colloquialism "She can belt it out of her!" :) I love the power in her voice. And the musical arrangements are great too. I listened to Celine Dion's "interpretation" of this song and I couldn't listen to it all the way through. Don't forget about 60s and 70s!
