Replace the Denatured Alcohol With moonshine and call it OB MoonShine Juice. then you'd have polish with a kick, a tasty drink for when you really wanna get "shellacked"! Hahahaha!
For years I’ve been using an emulsion made of shellac, BLO, and Johnson’s paste wax. It does not contain any denatured alcohol. (I’m not convinced the DNA in this formula actually contributes much.) just today I ran some comparisons of the two finishes; the one with the wax seems to burnish up glossier. Either finish requires fine sanding and sealing to prep the surface. My routine is several cycles of sanding sealer/fine sanding or steel wool, followed by several coats of finish, with steel wool in between. Buffing after the finish is dry a while looks nice, too.
wakely wanderer I’ve turned speeds of 500-600 rpm and gotten a good shine. I then leave it to dry for 30 mins to an hour. A buffing wheel might work as I’ve seen people use them to get a high shine. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Ken

Although what I'm about to say is controversial, I'm gonna say it anyway. All finishes are food safe once cured. OB Shine Juice is not food safe. It is made with shellac, but give it long enough to cure and I think it will be ok. For immediate food safe I would use a walnut oil of a mineral oil bees wax mix. Ken
Be careful with olive oil it can go rancid. Interesting fact, with OB shine juice the ingredient shellac is actually edible. They use it in candies and other food. Ken

How long do you let it dry between coats and do you sand it any between coats?
I let it sit around 30 mins. I don't sand between coats.

I use Zinsser Bulls Eye Clear Alcohol-Based Shellac.
I like to mix mine with a little seltzer water and pour it over ice. No wait, that's how I like my mint juleps...

Denatured alcohol is no longer sold in California. Any suggestions for a denatured alcohol substitute

I do not think so. It has to have high heat caused by friction to set up

I have never tried that, but I don't think it would work.
How does this work on pens?
Not as good as a CA finish. Although I do use it on Christmas ornaments. Sorry it took so long to answer, I only recently saw the comment.

Isn't this what's known as Danish Oil?
Danish oil is normally made from tung oil or polymerized linseed oil, although there is no defined formulation. This is a speed friction polish.

Yes it does, but if you put a a coating of wax on top and buff it, it will keep.
