    Blade Runner patch in the first slot - good idea. Every synth should come with the Blade runner patch, or even a dedicated Blade Runner patch button 😀

      They are very good, (surprisingly) but there are quite a few other synths that have great factory presets/banks. Access Virus TI2, Korg Prologue, DSI OB-6 & REV2, Alesis Fusion have lots of great factory presets. The Behringer Deepmind 12 has tons of incredible factory presets.

    The Minilogue fills a nice niche for musicians that want more than a mono synth, but don't have room for or want a larger KB. Bedroom musicians, young people that don't have a lot of money but want more than an entry level synth, or musicians that have a workstation or larger digital piano that want more sounds without taking up a lot of space and doesn't cost a lot. A very capable 4 voice synth with the filter from the larger Prologue series. It now has a joystick instead of a lever. The next step up is an 8 voice 4 Octave KB and the top of the line is the 16 voice 5 octave Prologue. Buy what version you need, have space for, and can afford.

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It wasn't a contest for me between the Peak and the Prologue and it's definitely not a contest between the Peak and the XD. Two VCO's and a digital oscillator wins on both occasions for me.

    • @marsensound
      @marsensound 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I don't want my comment to be misinterpreted. They're obviously different price ranges and I'm not saying they're the same or can do all the same things. They're definitely different. Still though, in terms of just plain musical inspiration I feel like this got me nearly as excited as the Peak and of course for a much lower price point. No hate on the Peak, I have tried it myself, and it sounds verrry nice.

    • @RoomAtTheTopStudio
      @RoomAtTheTopStudio 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@marsensound the Peak has an obvious advantage in modulation possibilities. I was just expressing my own personal opinion between the Prologue and the Peak. After getting the Prologue I was considering the Peak to go with it but in the end I left it alone. Even my store salesman who had a Peak sold his to get a MODX which I can understand. I just didn't connect with it when it came out where-as I did with the Prologue straight away when I played it. My advice is play both in the store and go with the one that you connect with the most.

    I've debating HARD over what synth to get next and it's really come down to this vs. the Mother-32 or Bass Station (I was mainly looking for some bass because sometimes my monologue sounds too muddy). But the more I see what the minilogue is capable of, the more I'm enticed to buy it. I mightttt just do it.

    I have the original Korg Minilogue which I bought for $400.00 new. I pretty much only like 3 of the preset sounds. However, I am now able to take those 3 preset sounds and tweak them to sound an entirely different sound which I love. I'll keep mine for now. This is however, an amazing sounding synth. Thanks for posting these great and helpful TH-cam vids!

    For some reason a few of these remind me a bit of a Roland D-50... Maybe because some of the digital oscillators sound a bit like samples?

      When I first got it I spent about three hours with it and barely scratched the surface (hell, I still don't know all the presets because I use init patches so much for making my own)...that first day each preset was at least ten minutes of noodling and knob twisting and writing new sequences and...I'm getting excited about this synth all over again (for like the third time today)

    Some simple minor updates would get us to a much more powerful synth:
    1. The Arp kinda blows - Manual input not best and kinda buggy how it behaves when using it with the sequencer. Speaking of sequencer...
    2. Could use more steps (32 would make a huge difference for phrasing). Without adding more steps the sequencer could be waaaay more powerful with a few sequencer modes - Random (organic)/Backward (added variation)/Forward Backward (double the steps).
    3. More LFO's - and more LFO Targets like..oh I dunno...the amp (for basic tremolo effects)!?!
    4. Some simple SHIFT+KNOB functionality - Like SHOFT+TEMPO KNOB allows for menu tempo value (which allows for much slower tempos). Etc, Etc.
    That all being said, its an amazing when it comes to playability and sound design - very intuitive and fun to use. It's amazing...just not Really Amazing...yet (to be cont.)
