Brendan Black Yeah I agree .. I have the original .. but isn’t it mostly because of the stereo effects? I.E. What happens when you run the original through a suite of Strymon boxes or even VST effects?
Chris Strobel I’ve run mine through a specular tempus and was able to get some amazing pads akin to these, but the digital oscillator on this does give sounds you can’t get on the og minilogue.
This is a real public service you're doing, loopop - thank you! Also, this synth sounds just great, Korg really has done a pretty good job with the logue lineup of synths
Thanks for another video only playing the presets from the unit! When you did it for the Digitone, it gave me a clear idea that it was perfect for me (and bought it at KnobCon in Sept). Now with the xd, as a current minilogue owner, I can tell this is absolutely worth it.
I picked up a white one today. It’s just perfect. I have a Rev2, SE-02, Omnisphere and Keyscapes plus the Roland cloud and this is my favorite hardware. I can sit by the fire with it on my lap and make the most massive soundscapes in my headphones. It’s so intuitive. Accessible and deep all at the same time. Fantastic.
Just got my 0-Coast going with the Minilogue XD.... playing both instruments in unison is creating some of the biggest sounds ive ever heard :) Thanks for all your inspiration loopop!!
They are very good, (surprisingly) but there are quite a few other synths that have great factory presets/banks. Access Virus TI2, Korg Prologue, DSI OB-6 & REV2, Alesis Fusion have lots of great factory presets. The Behringer Deepmind 12 has tons of incredible factory presets.
@@gjc82071 Yeah, that's true. It's a qualitative judgement.. Lots of variety in the bank, all high quality, seems this synth is full of sweet spots. Heck, it even does a pretty convincing 303!

The Minilogue fills a nice niche for musicians that want more than a mono synth, but don't have room for or want a larger KB. Bedroom musicians, young people that don't have a lot of money but want more than an entry level synth, or musicians that have a workstation or larger digital piano that want more sounds without taking up a lot of space and doesn't cost a lot. A very capable 4 voice synth with the filter from the larger Prologue series. It now has a joystick instead of a lever. The next step up is an 8 voice 4 Octave KB and the top of the line is the 16 voice 5 octave Prologue. Buy what version you need, have space for, and can afford.
Eventually bought one and got it today, this saves me finding things I like to start with, good range on board already. Next I will watch your tutorial and take notes, then I will unpack it 😀 Thanks for this upload.

Thought I was gonna pick up a Novation Peak... finding it harder and harder to go more than 2x the price the more I see from this thing! Korg is killing it.
I understand where you are coming from. I would suggest you try and get some hands on time with both - they are quite different sounding and the Peak offers more complexity but you may not need it. XD sounds good eh?!
It wasn't a contest for me between the Peak and the Prologue and it's definitely not a contest between the Peak and the XD. Two VCO's and a digital oscillator wins on both occasions for me.
Yeah, I don't want my comment to be misinterpreted. They're obviously different price ranges and I'm not saying they're the same or can do all the same things. They're definitely different. Some simple minor updates would get us to a much more powerful synth: 1. The Arp kinda blows - Manual input not best and kinda buggy how it behaves when using it with the sequencer. Speaking of sequencer... 2. Could use more steps (32 would make a huge difference for phrasing). Without adding more steps the sequencer could be waaaay more powerful with a few sequencer modes - Random (organic)/Backward (added variation)/Forward Backward (double the steps). 3. Some simple SHIFT+KNOB functionality - Like SHOFT+TEMPO KNOB allows for menu tempo value (which allows for much slower tempos). Etc, Etc. Blade Runner patch in the first slot - good idea. Every synth should come with the Blade runner patch, or even a dedicated Blade Runner patch button 😀
Some people complain that it's done to death, but those are bad people who should be poked with sticks.
More CS80 than CS80
