I watched this video many times and finally chose minilogue OG. I am now 21 years old and living in Japan. This is my first synthesizer. I want to make my best work with this partner. I am looking forward to seeing other videos. Thank you.
Its almost like they went. Minilogue. Release. Now we have no ideas, lets make a emoticon laughing at the fact we have no new idea, i know minilogue XD
The XD is a bit more pleasant on the ears, but a lot of it's tones can be created on other synths. The minilogue OG is a bit harsher and thinner, but is a truly unique sounding synth.
I thought mine was really crap and thin sounding when I first got it but then very quickly discovered that sticking it through e.g. Zoom CDR70 with a bit of EQ, delay and reverb and....BOOOOM!!!
respectfully, you're just pulling this out of your ass, and so is this video's creator. the two synths don't sound different enough to be discernible, and the XD is an upgrade over the OG, not a sidegrade. feel like this video is gaslighting people
Minilogue OG = More comprehensive traditional analog synth including a 2 & 4 pole filter Minilogue XD = Adds a digital osc and some digital bells and whistles in exchange for limitations to the voice structure, including the loss of the 4 pole filter - Get OG if you want an analog synth that can do most everything Get XD if you want an analog digital synth hybrid and are ok with losing some things. - For me it's about if you have a comprehensive analog poly synth or not. If you don't, the XD leaves off things that are a major loss, like the 4 pole and full filter ADSR env. If you have other analog polys the XD's digital stuff can add nice things that others don't. Having that fancy digital osc is rare on a synth with analog filters, and evnen rarer on a poly. The Microfreak does but it's paraphonic making it be much more limited in how sounds can be played. I'm a little more partial to the OG myself mostly because I have an Electribe 2 that has some of Korg's weird digital oscillator types and an ESQ1 which does the digital osc with analog filter poly thing.
Side Chain mode is one that I overlooked for a long time, but I love it now. It is good for layering notes that have a lot of sustain, minimal filter movement. and getting clarity of the most recent note being played. The dial sets the amount of attenuation you want to give to previous notes when a new note is played. At 0 there is no attenuation and all notes are the same volume. At 100 all previous notes disappear when a new note is played. When you find a good balance you can play long and loud notes and the newest note gets the most "attention".
Same question as stagnatic here. Is sidechain mode avilable on BOTH the OG minilogue and the XD? Or is it limited to the OG only. Really love it. Hope you can help. Preemptive thanks!
I think you’re absolutely right about the magic with the original one. I had the XD here and thought it was an update. But it wasn’t. One annoying thing was the clouding FX in most presets. But even without - it just didn’t sound celestial. So I sent the XD back and am even happier with the original. There will be nothing better in that segment. Future classic.
Did the same thing. I loved the XD. It’s a wonderful synth. But there’s truly something special about the OG. Also, the full/more versatile EG and being able to modulate the EG rate/intensity is a lot of fun.
I had both for a time . Had the OG when they first came out. Strings and evolving pads took much more programming time then the XD does for those type sounds. I did enjoy the the OG greatly but the 3rd osc ,user modes , and FX made the XD a completely different synth. I do not regret parting with the OG over the XD but I did wish the awesome patches I made could be imported into the XD.
Joseph Lepkowski ugh yeah man, I totally hear ya. I miss those patches! Some guy across the country could maybe be enjoying them though, that’s what I have to keep telling myself!
I’m glad someone has posted this. Sold my Minilogue to get the XD, and ended up missing it more than I thought I would for these reasons. I missed it so much that I bought it back. The XD is incredible, but I have a soft spot for the original.
I have also changed my original for the XD and there was not the same love for the new synth at all. The original felt more hands on and intuitive😢 I think I’ll go back to my little silver one!
@@corridor444 Selling equipment is smart if you're on a budget and want to try new gear. Get back most of the money you originally paid for it, spend a little extra for new gear, rinse and repeat. If only I wasn't so lazy about selling my possessions, lol. It's a hassle, and I don't like paying for shipping.
Hi, I have a Minilogue original about 2 years, and I recently bought a XD module, so I'am very glad to have the 2 models because they both have nice features. yestreday I saw your demo about XD sequencer, and i really understood the big difference about the step by step possibility of XD the motion mode, a great discover for me, thanks a lot
I played with the minilogue in a store and loved it and was looking forward to picking up an XD this year. I don't think the different/missing features are enough to sway me back to an original. However, I wish they made a module version of the original. I'm limited for space and don't have a ton of room.
Thanks for the comparison! I just had the chance to get both for a day, and to be honest, for me it was no comparison, the XD ran circles around the original. The main difference is the onboard FX, which is so good that it turns even mediocre patches into inspiring and interesting sounds. Of course you can later replace them with effects in your DAW, but you have already been inspired to make songs.
I kinda regret updating it. XD is a huge, great synth but I really should keep the original. The whole minilogue character is gone, starting from delay xd I've got the same feeling that most of people here has. I'm just waiting for some cash to come and going to buy the OG. They will complete each other perfectly in music I do.
It went full circle for me. Minilogue - Prologue - XD, and now I’m back with the OG Minilogue once again. You’re totally right about the character being gone in the XD. It’s a great synth, and if it were my only synth, I’d chose the XD. But the original is truly something special.
I bought the Minilogue xd as my first synth and it is really great. I have a huge amount to learn but I feel it will give me lots of room to grow into the future (won't necessarily cure gear acquisition syndrome though). Thanks for the video!
Happy to see someone diving into the world of synths. The original Minilogue was my first. Both seem to be very good choices for beginners. Although I can see the limitation of having no 3rd oscillator, and the added control over the envelope generators on the OG Minilogue lending itself to being a better initial learning tool. But you could always just not use the user oscillator on the xd and use it similarly.
These look almost like toys compared to the big synths, but the sound they produce proves otherwise, even though they dont have all the bells and whistles. Compared to decades ago the features these things have are great
Nice comparison! I believed the XD made the original obsolete, but now I'm not so sure about that anymore. If I had to choose one I'd go for a XD module because I like the digital oscillator and the effects and don't have the need for yet another keyboard.
I still prefer the OG minilogue (and I regret having sold mine for a Prologue 8). The removal of the ADSR and the envelope interaction with the LFO is a cut too far. Yes the raw tone *can* be better for a lot of types of bassier sound because of the filter but I feel like the XD is a less expressive instrument even if at first glance it's more impressive. Effects can always be added (I don't use the Prologue's effects much, I prefer to record dry and add stuff later in-DAW), I don't tend to use the Prologue for bass (so the low cut imparted by resonance on the OG is largely fine) and while I like the digital oscs, if I want that kind of sound I have a Microfreak, and the slot number architecture (instead of a unique ID per oscillator) means that your patches become all but untransferable to others. In hindsight the only thing I disliked about the OG was the mono output; I do use the Voice Spread on the Prologue. The OG Minilogue *always* sat well in a mix and I seemed to finish a lot more tracks with it than with the Prologue; it was a better band member. The XD is a great first synth for people who want it all in one box; the OG is the rounder collaborator.
I'm personally very grateful that I chose the OG Minilogue as my first synth around when it first came out. It's still one of my favorite synths. I learned all I needed to know about subtractive synthesis on it, and now I have a Volca Modular and Behringer Neutron (+ Arturia Keystep) to learn modular synth patching on, a Volca FM to learn FM synthesis on, a Volca Sample to learn how to use drum machines with, a Wavestation EX and Casio CZ-101 to get better at making and playing those "create *then* play with no live tweaking" kinds of patches, and a Novation Circuit to control those two, tempo sync my setup, and have an all-in-one music-making box on the go. Man, this hobby sure is addictive and expensive.
The minilogue xd V2.0 supports MIDI Aftertouch. And its default target is LFO Int. So you could use aftertouch to modulate LFO Intensity or anything you want instead of EG. Of course you'll need a keyboard that supports arftertouch first.
I started out with the XD and then picked up an OG (Platinum version - lovely) 2nd hand because I like the work flow and reckoned there wouldn't be too much of a learning curve - which there wasn't. I use the XD more often than the OG but there's something very special about the OG, especially building a great sounding patch from relatively limited building blocks. Adding an external reverb can make it sound incredible. If I had to keep only one I think I'd keep the OG, which is completely illogical given the additional features and great sound of the XD but there's something about the OG that I just can't put my finger on. Both are great synths but the OG would be the keeper.

I'm actually getting rid of my DSI Rev2 today and am going to eventually replace it with one of these. Ultimately, it was just too much synth for me and not intuitive enough in terms of simplicity. The OG is tempting due to all knobs, period.
Had the OG very much dug it. I sold it for a deepmind 6. Really liked it I sold that for the deepmind 12. Which i LOVE. I do miss the OG Maybe ill get it again someday. Im jonesing for the wavestate right now
@sbmphr How's the Wavestate? I snagged a Wavestation EX for $280 so I'm trying to figure out how the heck to create new patches on it. It's a great synth though, I just wish programming it was easier, and I wish the display wasn't as bright as a calculator screen. Wavestate seems to solve these issues though.
Nice review. I have the original and have no desire to get rid of it or get the XD as a replacement for it. They are nicely different from each other. I think the Minilogue is one of the most “immediate” synthesizer I have as it is so easy to craft sounds. Since I now have a Wavestate, my other desires are taken care of :).
I have the Minilogue XD and I call it spaceship. I recently purchased the Wavestate and noticed there is going to be a bit of a learning curve before I can fully enjoy it. Now it's time to master what I have been blessed with
Owner of the XD, didn't realise you could modulate the lfo with the eg on OG, that's really cool bit still, xd for the win, hands down. I have the monologue which i can use for routing ext audio through and has a nicer filter and a few other extras, actually I like it perhaps more than the XD for how simple and fast you can get great reaults with.
The second EG is where the magic happens on the OG. Until you spend some time experimenting with it, it’s hard to explain how powerful it is. And it is more sensitive and precise than the one on my OB6.
Original Minilogue pros: * It has an audio input. So you can use it as the third oscillator from any kind of audio source. Even from computer VST. When XD has very limited 32k multi-engine osc . Without the ability to connect external audio devices. * It has a pure analog delay effect using the second voices. When XD has only digital effects that you can apply at any DAW. (Yes, includes stereo effects too). * It has better filter (24db + 12db + hi pass filter) vs only LP 12db in XD. * It has assignable full ADSR (see video 10:10) with 3 destinations when XD has AD with only one destination. * It chipper XD pros: * Sustain pedal * Better sequencer (with visual curve automatization) * Additional CVs (only input)
@Aaron Foltz You can use any audio source as a custom wave. For example, if you want to use Korg Multi-Engine as the third osc (like XD), you can connect Korg NTS-1 to your Original Minilogue via MIDI and Audio-IN.
The ability to patch a full adsr to cutoff, lfo rate/intensity, and osc 2 pitch all at the same time give the original a quality of musical expressiveness lacking in the XD.
Thank you, Bo! I had been waffling back and forth on whether to get the OG or the XD. After watching this video several times, I decided to go for the OG and now a few weeks later I can say I'm still happy with my decision! The OG definitely has a slightly metallic sound that I'm not a huge fan of, but it is pretty easy to dial it out or find a way to harness it to elevate the tonal characteristics rather than just sound metallic. What I was looking for was a no-nonsense analog polysynth that wouldn't take up a lot of space, break the bank, or require a ton of fiddling and/or menu diving to create new sounds; I feel like the OG delivers on all of my needs flawlessly and I'm not looking back! I'm not missing the third oscillator that the XD might give me, but I'm definitely missing effects. Luckily I have a pretty decent pedalboard from my touring days playing guitar, and even just sending the Minilogue through the TC Electronics Hall of Fame reverb makes it sound lush and really warms it up.
Very nice video! I always wanted to hear a direct comparison between those two. There are more differences than I thought. Now I need to get both... Thank you for not helping 😅😬
Thanks to BoBeats and all the helpful people here. I just starting or trying to learn to Use Synthesizers. I thought ok Minilogue it is then the XD appeared. Oooooook I thought and had no Idea what to do. Now I sit in front of a Minilogue OG. ;-) Let´s see what I make with it.
I have the xd and sold the OG last year. I'm thinking about picking it up again because it has a unique sound to it that I can't completely replicate in the new Minilogue. Maybe I will pair it up with a Nutekt NTS 1.
Big thumbs up Bo for your comparaison. I own the Minilogue OG and I love it, but I miss the effects of the XD. It would be great to see a demo of the OG with the Korg Nuteck NTS 1 to see the kind of results you can get with them. Thanks.
Hey bud! Its weird and hectic times so I probably missed your question. What was it? And you could always join our FB group or Discord and ask there :-)
BoBeats Hey Bo is there an argument for owning both or are they too similar. I'm just looking at buying a third synthesizer already having a monologue and minilogue OG. Thank you very much Bo. And thanks for the heads up I will join the group mate
@@New_Zealand_Music so I think there are better synths to pair either of the minilogues with for more fun... BUT... They do complement eachother in a way, because as I hope my video shows they do end up sounding quite different. So its more a question of: do you want more of the same workflow or something new and fresh?
BoBeats awesome my friend thank you so much I do like knowing my way around the synth and it does sound quite a bit different I guess I just need to make up my mind thanks for the input
BoBeats thanks for that Bo, haven't tried both comparing them against the minilogue and monologue and I you might be right, I don't think I want to own 3 synthesizers which share the same heritage, would be nice to have more variation. Maybe I'll check out the bass station 2, now that it's been updated and you can sync it. I think I saw a bass station in one of your videos I could be wrong, do you think this would be an interesting combination. Having not tried the bass station myself. I don't want to sound too vanilla, and like yourself I love my original minilogue.
I've been seeing used OG Minilogues near me super cheaply. This video was very useful, thankyou. I think for me, with lots of other synths already while I don't need this, if I was to get one I'd prefer the features on the OG. It's more like a compact vintage synth. Anyway, thanks. Sub'd.
It does highlight a dilemma with these two products. They are in many regards too similar to be complementary. But not similar enough that one fully replaces the other. Neither are they similar enough that they combined could be used as a way to expand the polyphony. For a live-playing rig though, they do cover enough brounds each, that one could make use of them in combination. It does seem likely that the next version, will be based on the XD considered the success of the custom OSC/FX ability, and then perhaps address some of the omissions of the XD compared to the original. (But who knows, Korg might do a successor to the original, that is fully analog as a separate line of products, or follow up the XD with a product with two digital OSC + one analog)
I don't think so. From a business standpoint they're not trying to make an upgrade so you stop buying the OG or an older synth. They make them different enough so you're torn between them so that you could potentially buy both. Unfortunately.
Great video. You really managed to convey just how different these two instruments are (in spite of the deceiving similarity) and I have to say I see the same appeal as you, with regards to the original version... Good job!
I just returned the Korg Wavestate and bought a pile of other synthesizers. Amazingly, older Korg models, such as the Krome 61, have over 100 pages of documentation. Thanks for showing that my Miniologue XD was a worthwhile investment. I hope it plays more than EZ Play music.
I have the OG Minilogue and the Prologue. I didn’t realize they removed the EG / LFO interaction before I bought the Prologue, and I absolutely cannot understand why they would take away something so powerful.
They intentionally cripple everything that they make in some significant way in an attempt to avoid cannibalizing sales of their other products. The problem with this is that, as Steve Jobs said, "If you don't cannibalize yourself, someone else will." Yamaha in particular has the same problem and it makes me not want to buy anything from either of them. I still like my original Minilogue, but you have to remember that Korg is not your friend and they don't care about making the best synths that they possibly can, they care about making money. In Korg Fantasy Land, they're convinced that these tactics will get people to buy one of each synth that they make. In the real world, many people are likely to go elsewhere.
Ben Garner I agree to an extent. I think that the Prologue could have been more full featured for the price. I think it sounds excellent and I liked playing it, but you could also get a DSI Rev 2 for about the same price. The Minilogue (XD) and the Monologue, not to mention the Volcas, are worth the money in my opinion. I think they’ve hit a good balance between features, ease of use, and price. I’ve never used a perfect piece of equipment. They’re all a bit quirky; however, I think Korg is doing a better job than some of the other larger companies when it comes to creating original synths. No company is your friend. Companies are not people. End Citizens United.
I feel like Korg should release a dedicated sequencer unit that uses the same easy-to-use button set up as the ones on the synths but with a lot more steps. Imagine being able to have 128 step Korg sequencers. Aaaahh, I can dream.
Hmm.. Overall I think I prefer the XD, but there are a few quirks to the original that seem to make it worth having both if the affordable mini-synth ecosystem is your thing. You can get the original pretty cheap if you watch the used market.
They both make good sounds, but I was never able to get into the Korg *logue line. With most other synths I've tried, the hardware would let me do pretty much anything I could think of, even if it made no sense. But with the *logue series, it gave me fewer tools and fewer ways to connect them. Instead of trying to maximize the user's options, it seems like the *logues are more opinionated about what the user should and should not be able to do. This probably makes it a good choice for new users, since the guidance can help push them toward things which sound nice. But it may also leave people wanting more.
The Logue synths aren’t made to be able to do everything under the sun, but the way all the parameters work in tandem with each other is super inspiring. It’s a real instrument, that’s why I love the entire line so much. You can’t do it all, but it absolutely excels in what it can do. Also the sequencer is really powerful once you dive into it, and it adds a ton of possibilities.
Great video Bo. At one point I wanted an XD to pair with my Prologue. The OG didn't really resonate with me when I was getting into building a hardware set up though. When eventually checking out the XD I found it to be the same. Each to their own though as both are very good synths but just not for me.
I had pretty cheap little synths over the years, as I’m mainly a guitarist. However, this past winter, I bought a Moog Grandmother(I’ve wanted a Moog since the 1990s as a teen) and the Minilogue (I wanted a decent synth that was capable of polyphony, ambient pads.. and Minilogue was excellent reviews for the price) I received both the same day, and absolutely love both, and play both all the time to this day, as my synth collection has grown since, with OP-1, Mother32, DFAM, Digitone, 0-Coast..found the Roland JU-06 I bought 5 years ago, and use it w Keystep, modular skiffs, that soon became 2 6Ux 416 hp cases ..The Minilogue is still my favorite of my synths (Tied w my Grandmother, which can’t be compared, as its apples to oranges in every way) I absolutely love the control over the oscillators. Sculpting new sounds with the ADSR controls is incredibly intuitive and sharp, I love the screen with the oscilloscope, displaying the sound wave, as the oscillation is changed. I’ve gotten harsh, glitchy, almost thumping arpeggiation to syrupy smooth ambient pads, to thick orchestral chords... Since I’m typically adding parts to guitar songs, and now writing more songs that are solely synth based, this is one that I absolutely would never get rid of. I spent most of March selling gear I wasn’t using and wasn’t going to, digitakt, analog heat MK2, MPC One, Drumbrute impact, a dozen boutique guitar pedals. I pretty much sold all of my non modular, and semi modular gear, in order to buy more modules, but I never considered getting rid of my Minilogue, I always recommend this synth to anyone who is considering it, (same with the Digitone for users who have more experience, or are willing to learn the menu -diving, as it sounds so good) I sometimes wish I would have gone with the XD, but now I don’t feel that badly about going with the original. Great Video, and a great synth for the money for sure.
I'm mainly a guitarist, but also someone who wants to try something completely different. I'm actually making a final decision on which one of these two I should buy. This video helps me a lot and I think that the "classic" Minilogue will be perfect for me. Thank you for making my decision much easier! :)
I bought the original but am not getting along with it. Despite what others have said I find it doesn’t set well in the mix at all - the harsh metallic upper mids really stick out. Also I find it has a kind of strange notch in the sound around 1-2k despite that? It is a hell of a lot of features for the price point but the sound just isn’t working for me. Thinking about replacing with the xd which sounds a bit flatter and more suitable for pads and ambient stuff.
Great video. I sold my original and got an XD module. I didn't realize those differences yet since I am just getting situated with the XD. I did also get a Sequential Pro 3 and I have to say I probably don't even need any other synth as it is now hands down the most interesting and best sounding synth I've ever used. I do like the Minilogue's simplicity and sound though. Maybe the xd will sound warmer when the internal electronics age a few years. I'm also excited that Korg tends to support their gear more than Roland and will probably have more updates in the future that could bring the changes you and others ask for. Keep up the great content.
super fantastic, really helpful video. a possibly significant tradeoff with the XD, depending on what you want to do with your synth, is that you get stereo out but no audio in. in other words, you can play your electric guitar through the original minilogue if you want to, but not through the XD (at least, not as it comes out of the box)
Went for the XD as my very first synth as it was 1) available at same price as OG (used), because of the 2) more obivous 16step sequencer buttons, 3)effects via digital oscillator (probably wont use in the beginning though) and 4) the color lol
@@adriannunez8868 Way diferrent. The Minilogue is a analog synth. The Minilogue Xd is a Hybrid (Analog and Digital), and the Microkorg is an Virtual Analog synth. The Microkorg doenst have a sequencer, the minilogue does. There are too many differences, watch some videos to know they better.
My issue with the xd (and why I bought an og minilogue) is the joy stick. After owning an akai mpk mini with that awful joystick I refuse to have one again. I assume korg did it better than a 100 dollar midi controller, but I prefer the assignable pitch bend stick.
Personally the biggest point for me is the stereo vs. mono bit. The only thing keeping me from getting an OG Minilogue is the fact that it's mono. It's a pretty large difference in price here in Canada as well. $699 for a Minilogue vs. $929 or more for an XD. I do want another poly, but not if it isn't stereo. Just have to decide if it's worth the extra money.
Yamaha has the Reface series and Roland came out with the Boutique series. Korg seriously needs to think about releasing some kind of tabletop reissue series. Imagine a tabletop reissue of the DW8000, the Poly 61, Poly 800, M1 and the MonoPoly. And I think to myself...what a wonderful world....
On a real vintage analog synth clicks... thats good! VA/plugin-kids thinks click are something wrong since they synths sounds like plugins from the 00:ish. Now all synths with software envelopes has an issue with the attack, first nothing then sloppy attack. Just to reduce the click...
As for the OG external input I imagine it could compensate for the missing 3rd OSC eg by routing in another synth (Roland SH01 Boutique in my case) triggered by OG Midi out.. Great video, and nice knobs :-)
Hi ! have you finally tried that ?.. I was wondering how the two machines would communicate together .. I m getting a used OG and I was wondering if in the future I could plug in a boutique module and what would be the advantages .. Cheers !!

I thought mine was really crap and thin sounding when I first got it but then very quickly discovered that sticking it through e.g. Zoom CDR70 with a bit of EQ, delay and reverb and....BOOOOM!!!
respectfully, you're just pulling this out of your ass, and so is this video's creator. the two synths don't sound different enough to be discernible, and the XD is an upgrade over the OG, not a sidegrade. feel like this video is gaslighting people
2 years later, this video is still very helpful. Well done and thanks!
Update: 3 years 😂
Minilogue OG = More comprehensive traditional analog synth including a 2 & 4 pole filter
Minilogue XD = Adds a digital osc and some digital bells and whistles in exchange for limitations to the voice structure, including the loss of the 4 pole filter
-
Get OG if you want an analog synth that can do most everything
Get XD if you want an analog digital synth hybrid and are ok with losing some things.
-
For me it's about if you have a comprehensive analog poly synth or not.
Thanks for sharing
This is really helpful, thank you! Great video, and I love when I can get extra tidbits from the comments section
Is that on the OG or XD? Came upon this video as I’m preparing to get one or the other, and this mode sounds super useful.
Same question as stagnatic here. Is sidechain mode avilable on BOTH the OG minilogue and the XD? Or is it limited to the OG only. Really love it. Hope you can help. Preemptive thanks!
Best feature of the OG: Big filter cutoff knob.

I feel very much the same way. If I had to sell one I would sell the XD.
Brian Wiemer Photography never sell your equipment
corridor444 The good news is that I bought it back for $100 cheaper than my original selling price.
The XD sounded much fuller and easier on the ear to me than the original. Definitely going to have to pick one of these up
I kinda regret updating it.
But the original is truly something special.
thank you for the flawless product presentation - it helps me a lot to find the right one for me. best for you and nice greets from austria!
Thank you!!
I really love your playing style as you demonstrate the sounds. Reminds me a lot of the FTL soundtrack!
11:00 I like how you look at the camera like you’re unsure of that last note, nailed it 👌
I wonder what a Korg Epilogue might look like 🤯
An Epilogue is supposed to be some modern reissue of Korg PS series... probably...
@@Veluvian PS?
@@mikeexits Yeah, like a reissue of PS-3100 or PS-3200, but that's gonna be extremely expensive...
It'll probably mean: a lot of value for your money!

Thanks! Good to see the comparison side-by-side. I am still super happy with my XD
Man, this hobby sure is addictive and expensive.
i have both the xd is the best sounding and no click or noisy delay. the formant effect in the phaser section is great.
When I say „minilogue“ I seem to have incorporated your Scandinavian accent :D
Amazing content, big fan (from GER)
This is such a fantastic comparison, your knowledge of both of these synths really shows 🙌
I think the option of a module version is a huge pro in and of itself
I wanted to sell my og and replace it by the xd, but i couldn't lrt the og go, so i end up having both of 'em. Good decision, i believe. 😁
Yes probably you can poly chained ?
@@fjfrancois Well, actually, you can't poly chain the XD with the OG apparently, so I sold the OG.

Definitely don't want to sell my OG Minilogue for the XD. I'm torn between a DSI Rev2 or MiniXD Module. Great Video Bo!
Really liked it
I sold that for the deepmind 12.
Which i LOVE.
I do miss the OG
Maybe ill get it again someday.
Wavestate seems to solve these issues though.
jonesing for that hang
Nice review. I have the original and have no desire to get rid of it or get the XD as a replacement for it. They are nicely different from each other. I think the Minilogue is one of the most “immediate” synthesizer I have as it is so easy to craft sounds. Since I now have a Wavestate, my other desires are taken care of :).
I have the Minilogue XD and I call it spaceship. I recently purchased the Wavestate and noticed there is going to be a bit of a learning curve before I can fully enjoy it. Now it's time to master what I have been blessed with
SOO 100 BRAND Congrats on the Wavestate. It is a handful and I’m learning it slowwwwwwwly. Korg makes some nice products. Enjoy the spaceship!
Agreed. It's very versatile.
thank you for review, it's very nice!
Great synths, great guy, great review. And great knobs as well. Thanks Bo.
A very good comparison, well done !
Original Minilogue pros:
* It has an audio input.
* It chipper
XD pros:
* Sustain pedal
* Better sequencer (with visual curve automatization)
* Additional CVs (only input)
@Aaron Foltz You can use any audio source as a custom wave. For example, if you want to use Korg Multi-Engine as the third osc (like XD), you can connect Korg NTS-1 to your Original Minilogue via MIDI and Audio-IN.
@Aaron Foltz same with Monologue: th-cam.com/video/dqeMg85exKQ/w-d-xo.html
is it just me or the OG sounds like, really beautiful, like somehow different than XD ?
Totally Agree 💞
Nice haircut. Clean look 👌
Thank you, I will still in doubt, now I'm clear!
Thanks.
I'm waiting for my NTS-1 to link it to the OG. It should arrive in two weeks.
Cool! Mine arrived today! Very cool little machine! 👍😃
The effects are cool with the Minilogue, particularly the Reverbs. 😃
I bought my first minilogue based on your advise. Your such a good teacher, learnt so much off you
Tip, you can have the key velocity affect the filter cutoff on the xd in the program menu.
I've been seeing used OG Minilogues near me super cheaply. This video was very useful, thankyou. I think for me, with lots of other synths already while I don't need this, if I was to get one I'd prefer the features on the OG. It's more like a compact vintage synth. Anyway, thanks. Sub'd.
This comparison is gold, thanks a lot!
Always cool to see people use Chroma Caps on their gear
Incredible review! Oscar for this video!!!😆
Bo Beats just earned yourself a follower! Love your videos man!
Great comparison Bo. Glad to be in the new FB group too. (Chris with the grandmother)
Thanks buddy!! :-)
Hm, I thought I was sold on the XD as my next (and first poly) synth, but this comparison’s got me rethinking that plan
same. let me know what you choose and why!
@@Ghost_Hardwar3 minilogue will have to wait, as it seems I can get a good deal on an EMX. Too many good things on the market, haha
Great video. You really managed to convey just how different these two instruments are (in spite of the deceiving similarity) and I have to say I see the same appeal as you, with regards to the original version... Good job!
Love your channel Bo. Great comparison. You've Inspired me to start my own channel.
Why did they remove the 4-pole Filter option from the XD … 😑
Super nice comparative man, 100% useful :)
Excellent review. Thank you.
Matt B I know it’s so good. I wouldn’t mind if they put that in a menu. I don’t know if it could be added in software.
*love the hair*
Mmmkayyy!!!?!!!?
Love this comparison and great sounds used! Just subscribed
You can get the original pretty cheap if you watch the used market.
very useful thank you Bo!
the tone of the OG is just so pretty and unique :)
I prefer the original - sounds better and looks fantastic with those pretty pink knobs!
About to rewatch this, I think am missing you bo hehehe hope you are enjoying your summer break
Great video Bo. At one point I wanted an XD to pair with my Prologue. The OG didn't really resonate with me when I was getting into building a hardware set up though. When eventually checking out the XD I found it to be the same. Each to their own though as both are very good synths but just not for me.
How far do you think the XD is from the Prologue regarding the sound of the OSCs and filters?
@@javiceres Basically it's like comparing a quartet to a choir. The quartet sound great but when you hear the full choir you can tell the difference
@@RoomAtTheTopStudio I see, thanks
Mycket grekiska för en vinylsamplare. Great video Bo.. not sure which one that could be right for me, both sounds really nice!
Did you end up getting it? How do you like it? I'm in the boat as you.
14:19 one additional cord... and you hear "Derelicts" by CBL ;)

Agreed with Sister Rose and James
I bought the original but am not getting along with it. Despite what others have said I find it doesn’t set well in the mix at all - the harsh metallic upper mids really stick out. Also I find it has a kind of strange notch in the sound around 1-2k despite that? It is a hell of a lot of features for the price point but the sound just isn’t working for me. Thinking about replacing with the xd which sounds a bit flatter and more suitable for pads and ambient stuff.
I deciding witch to get and just the video i was looking for 😅
Great video. Thanks Bo!
Really informative, thank you!
Which sound warmer / more ‘vintage’? Seems to me it’s the OG, thanks in no small part to the 4-pole filter option?
The filters and also the noisy delay, analog noise generator, more flexibility with programming, and having only VCOs to work with
Great video.
Very accurate comparison! Cheers!
super fantastic, really helpful video. a possibly significant tradeoff with the XD, depending on what you want to do with your synth, is that you get stereo out but no audio in. in other words, you can play your electric guitar through the original minilogue if you want to, but not through the XD (at least, not as it comes out of the box)
Went for the XD as my very first synth as it was 1) available at same price as OG (used), because of the 2) more obivous 16step sequencer buttons, 3)effects via digital oscillator (probably wont use in the beginning though) and 4) the color lol
I have both of them and they are really different.
Дмитрий Миронов what’s the difference between these and the microkorg? 3 choices all in all and I’m still deciding.
Adrian Nunez I don’t know. I didn’t play on microkorg. See reviews and decide for yourself.
Awesome video! Thanks!
Great work!! Thank for this video!
the stereo output is the main reason to get the xd imo
Yamaha has the Reface series and Roland came out with the Boutique series. Korg seriously needs to think about releasing some kind of tabletop reissue series. Imagine a tabletop reissue of the DW8000, the Poly 61, Poly 800, M1 and the MonoPoly.
And I think to myself...what a wonderful world....
Behringer’s new Mono/Poly? 🤣
Cheers !!
