    I’m shocked there aren’t more videos like this, everyone’s just testing read/write and other specs, so thank you for providing a live example of what most people will be doing. I was gonna get into video editing with one of these so I think I’m gonna go for the 16/512 base model and use the money I save by not going for the pro model on a good monitor and accessories. Thanks again!

    Finally a real life test, i hate those "benchmark" tests, i don't care if a project exports 30 seconds faster then before. It exactly the workflow that is important to me. And like you said, its the standard editing that most people do, or me atleast. Thanks for the video!

    Fucking finally, someone who tests the Mac Mini in real life scenarios instead of pointless export tests. Appreciate the detail you put into this in terms of editing and color grading in Premiere. Helps you give a good idea of what this machine is capable of for its price. Thank you. Subbed.

    I was looking for this video. I bought the base model for 499, then realized I needed more ram , so I coughed up the 180 extra dollars for 16 gigs for students, and bought a 2TB nand external ssd for 200$. Going through Apple for the storage is insane for the same amount of storage. Total for the mini680$(student) and 200$ for the external storage. Not bad Keep it up dude. You kept it professional and gave good insight.

    I do digital art. I have the M2 mini 8gb/512gb model. I purposefully made a photoshop project 4000x4000 350dpi with about 82 layers (drawing on them all) and had zero noticeable slowdown.
    I’d say unless you life depends on running 20 tabs and rendering massive projects all at the same time, your fine with base models. The machine is amazing.

      Exactly this, these videos had me in analysis paralysis. I bought the base M2 mini and transferred a 20gb album in 30seconds. Slow SSD is just clickbait, 95% of ppl shouldn’t be bothered.

      Oh dude, I was considering about buying Mac Mini M2 16/256 but I wasn't sure about performence. I use mostly photoshop (and illustrator but only for simple projects) with a lot of layers and effects etc, not the biggest resolution but sometimes are and I could not decide. But now I am pretty sure I am buing that mac! Thanks for leaving comment.

    • @raghuabroad
      @raghuabroad ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ToffuPLbro, base model would be fine if you are not going to load with high performance or more demanding gb software...but if you can afford n want to stay out of any risk with future updates, go with 16gb. This machine may or could slow down in future with more ram demanding softwares. That time 16gb will cover all your unwanted worries. May be you can take some time to improve your budget n go for 16GB n not to worry about anything regarding performance..we can't upgrade from 8 to 16 otherwise I would have got 8GB itself. Considering future in mind I'm planning to go for 16
      This is just my perspective. If it makes sense you shall take it

    Thank you for this. I admit, I've found myself floundering when choosing my next Mac; part of it was from being burned on a 2018 i7, 32 GB Ram Mini which was recommended for my workflows by Apple and Adobe. Got it on release date, but it's slower than an arthritic sloth already. So this time I was eyeing up a Mac Studio or M2 Pro Mini.
    I didn't need to though, my colleague went for a 16GB M2 Mini with 512GB ssd; watching him editing 4k footage and creating an animated series on it over the last few days, it's handling it fine. After the education discount, it comes up to £800, which just seems insane for what it can do. I'm tempted to follow him.

    I just produced a 30GB 4k video with all the bells and whistles on FCP Mac Mini M2Pro w 32GB ram. (no other upgrades) It rendered the 30 GB in 90 seconds. Uploading it to TH-cam took three hours due to a slow internet. BUTT! The quality of it's final product was awesome! Far better than the same event using my Alienware R13! FYI: There were hick-ups when adding titles and text, but only momentarily. Very pleased. Not sure how it would've worked out without having the PRO and 32 GB Ram...

    Most people using it for that kind of work should definitely upgrade to 16GB of RAM, I don't think the SSD upgrade is needed since thunderbolt external SSD work pretty fast. Also I have a feeling it would work much better if you're not screen recording. It's nice to see a realistic test, most youtubers are using negative thumbnails and titles to get more views, and using unrealistic workflows to make the mac mini look bad. When in fact it's a really powerful machine and the SSD speed is not an issue at all if you pick the correct one for your workflow.

    Holy shit, I've been debating a base model when they go on sale. This really sold me. I kept questioning if it could handle premier and then I see you working super fast and doing a way more demanding workflow than I ever did in my 2011 MacBook back in the day 😅
    I just feel like anytime you start adding the upgrades it's always a slippery slope to being expensive. Sold on the base model!

    My suggestion (equal to what I have) for a good minimum: 16RAM 512SSD (the 16 is a must, the 512 is 2x the size and also 2x the speed of 256, but not cheap.) Want more SSD? Go external.

    The question for me isn't about how they operate today, it's more about a year or two down the road. As we know you can't upgrade Mac mini, what you buy is what you have. If you buy a basic Mac mini tomorrow with upgraded unified memory 16GB and upgrade the SSD to 512GB. How long can you expect that machine to stay relevant. I get I'm asking one of those questions similar to how long is a piece of string.

    I’m thinking about getting the base model for a replacement of my 2014 MacBook Pro. I can’t afford an iMac right now and actually now is not a good time to buy an iMac with still an M1 in it. Maybe I’ll upgrade to a new iMac in 1-2 years and I probably should be able to sell this base model Mac mini for about 400€/$ by then. Seems like a good deal - but - because of the price - with the 8GB Ram instead of 16. 16 would be preferable, but I should be fine since I don’t do a lot of editing or stuff like this.

    I will be buying the m2 mac mini shortly and i am undecided on the 8gb/16gb. I do want it for youtube video recording and I use an external camera(a sony zv-e10) as a webcam, as well as recording the computer screen at the same time. My 2020 macbook pro(intel) is absolutely struggling. It basically does not work, the video gets out of sync completely as the fan of the laptop goes crazy. I know that the m2 is way better and probably 8gb would handle this scenario (which is basically why I want to buy the m2 mini), but I am wondering, do you have any experience with that ? If so, did it work well for you on the 8gb model ?

    • @TonyStoodios
      @TonyStoodios  ปีที่แล้ว

    If my 2015 iMac was plenty with 32GB of memory would 16GB of unified memory be enough?

    • @TonyStoodios

      If you never went past 16gb before then I’m sure this will do you fine - but if you always did just get the 32gb. Better to have more than less.

    Im very new to editing and as a matter of fact i am waiting on my new mini m2 and everything else to come in the mail. I definitely need a beginner course to learn the basics of editing videos. I saved this video and subscribed so I can find your link. Would your course help someone with little experience with computers?

    • @TonyStoodios

      As long as you're not constantly hyperlinking between Premiere and AE all the time then 18gb ram would be enough. I use 32GB or more of RAM since I always hyperlink but my workflow isn't the same as yours.

    • @TonyStoodios

      From what I’ve experienced with 8GB, 16 should be where most people go for longevity and 24GB if you really want to use this for heavy professional work. There are alternatives for the money you’ll spend but that’s up to the consumer to make.
