She has grown on me. Her personality is hard to adjust to since she is so like unpersonable. She has grown. I take it to being camera shy and she gives a condensing regular face lol. However a lot of the nicest people are like that.

    31:45 is gold. Pretty motivational.
I make electronics, including some writing drivers or designing models to house/mount the parts. Sometimes I'll spend what feels like a lifetime getting a circuit or chip to work well in my product, only to realize it "doesn't make sense" or "something is off" and its always 💔 I want to reshape this feeling into an appreciation for finding a simpler solution, or making the product better by using something faster/more efficient/more accurate.
The amount of distraction is crippling. The further you are from people who can give you feedback, or look at something and recognize it as dumb, the harder it is to stay focused. Not being able to take that criticism means you should be making that thing for yourself. But if you love something you made, or you're making something you love, ignore the first bit of criticism, because you might be an artist.

“Sleep and drink water” - when I finally embraced that my editing life got better. When your mind loses the edge and you get tired, editing is pointless. Taking a break is probably the most important part of the process.

Wow, just found this video and want to say a huge thank you to you and Mariah for sharing her experience as a female video editor at the most well-known tech channel! I am also a video editor, working on videos for 3 channels now (on of our channels is 'TheFigCo', and it was useful to know about experience in MKBHD team, workflow and work life balance.
I'm only 1 year in this profession, never thought I end up as a video editor, but it was always my passion.
Our 2 editors are using DaVinci Resolve, and I'm the only one who loves FinalCut and I'm grateful that it's okay haha :)
So thank you! That's an interesting journey and so unusual that Mariah has like a 9-5 normal schedule. I personally work remotely but I love it, built my own discipline so now I can handle my tasks. And also trying to fit my own youtube channel into this schedule )

For a one person show like myself, especially, since I’m still a nano channel, I found this video absolutely fascinating! The whole idea of having someone else working for the channel, and doing editing is such a fascinating concept to think about. It’s amazing to me how some of these channels are so large, that they really areindustries unto themselves. Definitely amazing. Not something I really aspiring to, but it is neat to see.

I am a bit of an older generation, but it's funny and interesting to see someone who treats editing just as a job. From my experience, back in the days when you worked on the computer, you also had to be some kind of nerd or geek; otherwise, you would not have ended up in this area.

For motion graphics work, if the local graphics person can use Motion instead of AE, you'll be able to change a heap of things live on the timeline in FCP, way easier + more reliable than dynamic linking or MOGRTs. Or do the main animation in AE but add the text in Motion so it's editable? There are some nice workflows possible.

How is editing the Colossus robot footage.
like I know it uses a Red camera do they just give you the final shot and you stick it in like any other shot or is it more complicated to work with than a normal shot?

Amazing video! It might be the editing style, but I think it would be nice to see more personality in your interviews. Right now, it feels like I'm reading a blog post or a Q&A with very little interaction between you and your guests. There's a lack of reactions, laughs, or personality. I watched until the end because the questions were really interesting and detailed-great job on that! However, adding these extras would add more color and make longer videos like this more fun and engaging to watch. The Colin & Samir channel is a great example of what I'm describing.
Thank you for this video again, Tony!

This has been a WONDERFUL interview! Fantastic stuff, Tony. Mariah is awesome.
Mariah, like many video editors, zig. I'm going to zag by saying... video editing for TH-cam videos should have no collaboration. I know it sounds crazy but hear me out.
If you, as the video editor, have no say or collaboration in the pre production or production, then the people who do those things should have no say in the post production. Supply the video editor with notes and what you expect and then let them bring your vision to life. When 2/5/10 people all come in with their feedback, all that happens is the video gets watered down. It goes from being a unified cohesive work of art into a designed-by-committee piece of content. Let the video editor breathe and own it.

    • @prolific_visual
      @prolific_visual 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

collaboration is absolutely a must on bigger channels.. rule number 1 as an editor "learn to kill your darlings" if you think only your way is right in an edit it just means you haven't learned to kill your editor ego yet. The greatest things in life are made by many people. There is a reason movies/ music videos/ and even big youtube videos have end credits.
