I forgot to mention that this game is 2 players as well, but the experience is terrible. The screen jumps to the movement of both players and it becomes too jarring to look at after a few stages. You’re pretty much always playing catch-up with whomever is in front. Stick with the single player experience
It’s 2 player is WAY better than the first one though. The first one, player 2 could literally fall off the screen. So unless player 2 kept up with player 1, player 2 would get lost.
I'll never forget the time I rented this game, turning it on and having it immediately take you to stage 1 without a title screen. Then I found out that the character you start off with is random. What a great game.
This game IS awesome. A bunch of my family members played this game, too, and we figured out which characters were best for each stage. We found Gambit was best for the falling boulders level due to his upward attack for the boss and aptitude for taking out those jumping hunchbacks. He was also good for inside the pyramid 'cause those crafty hunchbacks can be annoying. Wolverine was essential to beat the last "levels" because of how long and difficult they are. Dat regen is the only thing that could get us past that pretty Hellish zone. And we used Cyclops for the final bosses because he was good for killing the giant scorpion and just blasting all the clones from a distance. A challenging game for sure, but not insurmountable. I beat it when I was a kid, afterall. And when we got to our last life, we'd have player 2 join, so when player 1 dies, you still can continue playing with player 2 and 8(or was it 16?) more lives. And we did this all without the internet, haha. Ah, simpler (better) times...
Nice! Yea Wolverine was always my go-to for the falling boulder stage. And yes, cyclops and gambit were pretty much very similar with their long range attacks, with cyclops having a much faster mutant attack but weaker punch action vs Gambit’s bo staff. But that’s what I loved about this game… the fact that it has such high replayability where you can use different mutants for a higher challenge. Beast was my go-to for the scorpion. Hahaha yes! I forgot about that. Adding a second player when you’re about to die. Classic. Simpler times indeed

I first played this game on Sega Channel (anyone remember that?) and it blew my 9-year-old ass away, especially after years of playing that mediocre original X-Men game on Genesis for years!
Having Sega Channel as a kid was awesome! I have so many fond memories of playing great Genesis games like this that I wouldn't have played nearly as much if only renting from the video store. Some of my friends had Genesis too and owned copies of certain games i could borrow, but having Sega Channel gave my family access to way more games + titles that were often rented out at the video store like Vector Man, and stuff i later learned didn't even get a physical release in North America. Like the squirrel game, Mr. Nutz, which my parents absolutely loved playing 'cause it was a platformer that wasn't too difficult or complicated for them to play lol. It was good for the whole family, 'cause there was always something one of us wanted to play, all these different genres of games, separate sections for "family games" or games aimed at even younger kids my youngest cousins could enjoy when they were over
Decades later its so hard to figure out which of the X Men titles I grew up loving, I think there was a banger on game gear, and maybe even a few arcade games that never got fully ported, but this was definitely one of the MVPs. I remember how amazing I thought the climbing system was when this came out.
Yea the X-Men arcade game was so freaking good. Def the best X-Men game ever. The 4 player action was so classic, and especially the rare 6-player in the deluxe cabinet. God… imagine having the 6 player cabinet in your basement today? Heaven haha
@VicariouslyRetro im just hoping it all comes to steam. With their attempt to reboot the animation, it seems like a rerelease would pull in quite a chunk of change. I'll see if I can't track down emulations of those arcade titles. Oh also props for using the victory fanfare from Gunstar Heroes as an outro. That title was another childhood definer.
Yea it makes perfect sense for them to release it now with the reboot. Haha and thank you for noticing the Gunstar Heroes Stage Clear music 🤘🏻 love it when people recognize it. One of my all-time favs
Yep! This is an absolute gem. I had the first XMen on the Genesis as a kid and thought it was awesome. It is not. I can still enjoy it and it's fun just getting to play as the XMen and the story is good but the characters are so weak (though it's still a million times better than XMen on the NES). Clone Wars makes you feel so powerful and is just an outstanding game. I do wish they had a password system but I can use save states these days so no biggie. I still need to play Clone Wars more. Too often I just play everything as Wolverine and need to get better at using the other mutants (and when I unlock Magneto I need to NOT use him so often though that's an outstanding trick to use him when fighting Apocalypse) I know other people think XMen Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES is the superior 16 bit XMen game but I disagree. It's pretty good but the characters mostly feel so clunky in that game and I can't stand inputing Street Fighter style commands for the special moves. I'm trying to fight 6 guys and miss my haduken fireball command with Cyclops so now I'm swamped and screwed.
Yup haha. I thought the first one was good too but looking back, it’s so subpar. The NES one is so bad haha. Like completely broken. Actually you don’t need a password system. There’s a level skip code. Pause the game. Press Left + C, Up, Up, Left, Down, Down, Right, C. If done correctly, you will hear a laser blast. Unpause the game, then pause it again. Hold Right + C to skip the level. Hold Left + C to change characters. This is great because you can start at any level with nine lives. Def give this game another shot, bro, it’s one of my favorites of all-time! And yes, mutant apocalypse is an “ok” game to me. Clone Wars blows it out of the water, no questions ask
I had and like both. They are very different in gameplay style. I also had Wolverine: Adamantium Rage on Sega, and it was not fun. That one the SNES version was a better time.
@@VicariouslyRetro I was excited to play it when I got it as a birthday gift. But got more and more disapointed the longer I played. 😮💨 The character intro panels were the best part of the game. 😅
I love everything about this game and I revisit it often. The music, the level design, the character variation and just overall feel made it really special at the time. I also still have a soft spot for the first Sega X-men game
Great review! Great game! A little bit too hard like that ridiculous stage we keep falling down into the water that’s just plain ridiculous and the water keeps rising? There’s like no way you’re being stay without using cheat codes in my opinion or a game, pro or something I’ll let you know which character to pick! Magneto is also the best character for the free falling segments because he can fly and avoiding laser beams. The kids who had a super Nintendo had just as much fun if not a little bit more fun with you at the apocalypse in my opinion! I also really really like the ending from you and apocalypse. The music is so chill. It was a great time to be alive in the shed got sonic two or another kid got donkey Kong country, They both had so much fun. There really wasn’t a clear winner in my opinion.
Thank you! Haha I swear to God, I did not use cheat codes for the gameplay footage. I’ve been playing this game since I was 10 years old. I am aware of the cheat codes though and the only one that’s really useful in my opinion is the stage skip. It’s pretty much like a password system where you can start off on any level instead of the beginning. The invincibility code is kind of stupid because it defeats the purpose of playing a video game. I was never a fan of those type of codes. I’ll have to try that level out with Magneto, thanks! And yes, I agree, there was no clear cut winner because each console had amazing games of their own. I do like mutant apocalypse, but I must say I like Clone Wars better.
Glad someone mentioned how the music in some stages change depending on who you're playing as. I thought I was going crazy the first time I played this.
Haha yea it’s a very unknown feature of this game. Took me awhile to figure it out, but when I was a kid, I was like wait a minute this sounds a little different.
Dude! Yes! I was playing through this again last winter, and I went through the same thing. Like why am I not hitting stuff right? I mainly noticed it when using Cyclops. But once I plugged in my wired controller it all came back. The music is incredible too. I discovered there was an Enhanced soundtrack release through Sega Tunes. Which was a series of cds they released of the original music the composers made before converting it to the Genesis. Definitely worth checking out if you can find it.
Right?? It makes such a huge difference. Glad I’m not alone in this haha. I love this soundtrack so much, it’s in my top 5 on the Genesis. Oh damn, I didn’t know that about Sega Tunes. That’s wild. I’ll def check it out, thanks, man! Learn something knew everyday
Very entertaining retrospective Mate! Amen, X-men 2 is not just a Great X-men game but a Great Gensis/Megadrive (I'm from Belgium, Europe) game overall. Guess I'm one of those few suckers that absolutely like the first X-Men game as well 'ID I remember Nightcrawler's ability in the first X-Men game allowing for some game breaking features like skipping parts of levels and beating most levelbosses with ease. Still have both games from back in the day and I still return to them to this day as well, playing them on my og Megadrive.
Thanks, buddy! Yea this game is so much fun, I love it. The first X-men game isn’t bad, it’s just no where near as good as this one. Glad you’re still playing the mega drive 🤘🏻
This was one of thee best. I still remember being slightly disappointed that the case was the new card back instead of the durable plastic, but as soon as the Sega was turned on you just drop in.😮😮😮😮😮 I was blown away.
Seeing all the amazing Sega Genesis games still coming out today (2024), it was clear that the main limitation of the console wasn’t the lack of onscreen colors, or scratchy voices - it was the cartridge ROM size. This console was the 🐐.
Absolutely! You can tell that just by looking at this game from 1995 vs an early released game like Altered Beast. If you didn’t know any better, you would think they’re a generation apart.
My favorites were Gambit and Nightcrawler. The former has cool looks, and the latter can climb on almost every walls. The problem is, some level require some specific charas to finish. Like the Beast was used to fight a caped boss who could destroy the entire floor or else I had to fight him from walls instead. Still on walls level, I had to pick Nightcrawler to travel through safely to the end of level as there was some guy who flew on the background who could kill me with just one or two shots. Fighting Apocalypse boss, I had to use Magneto to fly as he's the only char who could deal damage safely. The Minotaur boss was the most annoying one because he just charged on me regardless any posts I landed so I had to use Gambit to beat him from below.
Yea nightcrawler, Wolverine and cyclops were my top 3 in that order. And yea, it’s like the Mega Man strategy, gotta choose a specific mutant for a level. Haha yea that guy, believe is Fabian Cortez, he’s a pain in the ass in the background. You’re better off speed running through that stage with nightcrawler. But if you watch the full video, you’ll see me talk about specific bosses
I used Magneto for the climb level. I had it down to wear I would just blast ever rock coming at me and never got touched. Night crawler, I used frequently because his mobility was great plus he can jump on baddies repeatedly. I loved this game, truly.
That’s impressive. I have little patience. I love to blow through levels fast. I couldn’t use magneto on that level lol. And same, love this game so much
The Gameplay 10/10! The Characters 10/10! Level Design 10/10! But The Music… 1000000000000/10! I Literally Combusted Into Dance Mode The Second You Threw In The SoundTrack! You Speak Greatness, Kind Sir! Thank You For This Video!!!
Now let's not pretend for a second that the game that came before this is actually amazing too. Still have a physical to this day, one of my all-time most played games as a child. And a few very memorable songs on the soundtrack as well!
Huge step up from the first game. In the first game, they limited mutant powers but Clone Wars threw that out the window!! Plus, Magneto was playable!😊
Thanks for the awesome video on such a wonderful game! Speedrunner of it here, I just would like to say too that this game (if you end up liking it enough to really, really play it) feels very rewarding when you do a great job on tough levels with your favorite character(s)! It's definitely pretty trial & error when you're still new to the layouts! Definitely got a like from me though, thanks again for covering this one!! ♥
Best Genesis game. I played it for the first time in my early 20s and fell in love. Nightcrawler for the first stage, Wolverine for just about everything else, Cyclops on the last stage is the way I always liked to play this. Psylocke is a good pick occasionally too. I shudder to think that someone out there has played this whole game as Beast.
It’s funny you said that about beast. I always thought playing him the whole game would be the hardest challenge lol. But yea man, I grew up with this game. I absolutely love it
Just found this channel. Subscribed! Your narration style and delivery are hilarious and perfect. Excellent work on these videos. Hope your channel continues to grow with many more subscribers!
I beat the game, but I honestly had to cheat codes! But it was a good game. I thought the ending was kind of blah blah blah. I like the ending a lot more in mutant apocalypse. I’m surprised Konami didn’t port the Simpsons arcade game along with the X-Men arcade game that would’ve been a lot better on the genesis
I’ve been saying this for many years. It would’ve be awesome if we got a port of the X-Men and Simpsons arcade games. It probably would’ve been awesome if it was ported on the Sega Saturn or PS1.
For me the later levels could only be done with Wolverine and his healing ability. I had a pattern to play the game with all the other characters earlier in the game though.
One of my favorite games ever. I probably put more hours on it than any other I own. Just a fun time. I used to put one Game Genie code in though that allowed Wolverine to completely heal. I figured if it was in the comic, it was fair. Also have you ever heard the SEGA Tunes version of the soundtrack? It is very good!
Hahaha dude that’s awesome, I never heard of that code. Then again, I never had a game genie. Someone just mentioned about the Sega tunes version. I gotta check it out
Loved Clone Wars. Its such a hard game until you know the levels just like you said. Mutant Apocalypse though for some reason felt so bad ass though! Each mutant having their own starting stage and their music?! Psylocke, Cyclops and Wolverine stages were *chefs kiss*. Love these X-Men games!
That glory hole reference was…….a choice. I would reset the first level over and over just to get Gambit. He and Nightcrawler are my favorites, but Gambit theme was bad ass!
If you don't mind using cheat codes, there was one that allowed you to move magneto while he was hovering, left or right. You could still shoot too! That completely made him outstanding now that you could fly around with him like in this earlier boss level.
IT'S NOT!!! just everyone saying and repeating years of BS, it's just nostalgia!!! if you want a good xmen game play Xmen legends on ps2 and Xmen the arcade game which was rereleased on ps2 and other platforms! (thank me later!) this crap has to stop about Clone wars!!! it was a SLIGHT upgrade to the original Sega Xmen release which both are IMPOSSIBLE to beat without cheats, etc, the stages are hard to navigate, and the villain selection on this one pales to comparison to the first game (which actually sucks BUT offers you more although unplayable xmen as support characters.)
BUT I believe your review was ACTUALLY BETTER than the game itself...you make me want to ATTEMPT to play it for 10 minutes untill I realize that nothing ever comes from it that differs from other previous titles and it's one of those games where the difficulty make the overall experience unenjoyable (my opinion) great video though! 👍🏿
@@robertgreen7148 my man lol, it’s not impossible to beat without chests. This game takes patience. It’s like Mega Man. You gotta use a specific mutant on a specific level. Once you realize that, the game becomes fun. If you don’t, it’s a frustrating experience, I agree. I never played the PS2 game, but I compare this game to the 8/16 bit games. When I was a kid, I played this game the wrong way. I got my ass kicked. One day, it finally clicked and made it to the end
I got this game as a kid when it first dropped at Toys R Us. At first my friends were skeptical of playing it due to the first game, but once they saw how good this one played, they were hooked! Still got my copy!
Nice, man! Yea when I got this game I didn’t know what to expect. The first level was pretty cool but the second level, the sentinel complex, blew me away as a kid. Playing that as wolverine got me hooked and I never looked back
I remember playing the first one at my rich cousin's house. I would eventually try to beat it but it was a hard game. I tried every time I went over but it was too hard for both of us.
This is an amazing video for such an amazing game. It's a shame that you can't play the music. It would have been cool to hear it again and show the different tunes for different characters. TH-cam is such a limited platform these days. I would love to see you do this again on another platform like Nebulla or Patreon so you can do the Director's Cut! Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much, my man! Yea, I wanted to play a lot more of the music, since it’s such a highlight of the game, but like you said, TH-cam has its ways with copyrights. I will consider other platforms, I didn’t even think of that, thanks!
I remember playing this game soo much. I always thought is was short at the same time I wished for an option to save. Wolverine definitely was op. He could do it except ranged attacks. It was always him or Gambit for me. The one on game gear was pretty good too.
I owned a Genesis and a SNES as a kid. Unfortunately the SNES had that Genesis collecting dust and I missed out on a lot of great games. Within the first few seconds of this video I was in love with the character models alone. Im gonna have to give this a shot.
@@VicariouslyRetro I will for sure!
I just remember the box art for this game being absolutely off the hook! It really embraced the holographic craze that took over the 90's!
Yup! It’s one of my favorite box arts to this day
"I used to tear through these levels like a box of condoms in a college freshman drawer," which for me, probably means the first level is unbeatable
This made me lol 😂
Never played this one but X-Men Mutant Apocalypse was my preferred X-Men game of choice back in the day
I like that one too. Give this a shot. It’s totally different. I like clone wars better
Too often I just play everything as Wolverine and need to get better at using the other mutants (and when I unlock Magneto I need to NOT use him so often though that's an outstanding trick to use him when fighting Apocalypse)
I know other people think XMen Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES is the superior 16 bit XMen game but I disagree.
Never played Adamantium Rage but I heard it’s TERRIBLE lol
@@VicariouslyRetro I was excited to play it when I got it as a birthday gift. But got more and more disapointed the longer I played. 😮💨
The character intro panels were the best part of the game. 😅
@@Dilemina haha damn, I bet. I’ve seen a few videos on it and it looks like garbage. Bummer you got that one for your bday lol
I love everything about this game and I revisit it often. The music, the level design, the character variation and just overall feel made it really special at the time. I also still have a soft spot for the first Sega X-men game
Well said. I completely agree
The 1st Genesis game I bought with my money. Graphics were very impressive. I remember I beat the game more or less easily as Cyclops.
Money well spent! Yea Cyclops would mop the floor at long distance. Most underrated mutant in the game
I love that Gunstar Heroes music at the end there
Haha love it when people recognize this
Glad someone mentioned how the music in some stages change depending on who you're playing as. I thought I was going crazy the first time I played this.
Haha yea it’s a very unknown feature of this game. Took me awhile to figure it out, but when I was a kid, I was like wait a minute this sounds a little different.
Your honesty and sense of humor, combined with the tone of your voice which is perfect for reviews, earned you a subscriber. Cheers from France!
Thank you! 🇫🇷
Dude!
Just discovered this channel and I love how you narrate it makes me want to replay this gems.
Thanks, man! I appreciate it
Got way more memories with the first one, playing co-op. What I mostly remember about 2 is how it just suddenly starts…no option or anything.
Yea I hear ya, the first one isn’t terrible by any stretch, but the second one just beats it in every aspect.
This was one of thee best. I still remember being slightly disappointed that the case was the new card back instead of the durable plastic, but as soon as the Sega was turned on you just drop in.😮😮😮😮😮 I was blown away.
Yea I remember being upset that the case wasn’t the clamshell cause the artwork was so awesome. But yes, the game made up for it lol
Oh man. Memory unlocked.
Haha awesome
Im a first stage legend. That's as far as I could get
Ah come on, man. You never made it to the sentinel factory??
Don’t mind me. Just passing thru to drop a like on any vid praising my fave Genesis game👍🏽
Carry on.
Haha thanks, man!
Love this game & the Gunstar Heroes track you used at the end of your video. 😊
Love it when people pick up on the stage clear music from Gunstar Heroes lol 🤘🏻
Seeing all the amazing Sega Genesis games still coming out today (2024), it was clear that the main limitation of the console wasn’t the lack of onscreen colors, or scratchy voices - it was the cartridge ROM size. This console was the 🐐.
Absolutely! You can tell that just by looking at this game from 1995 vs an early released game like Altered Beast. If you didn’t know any better, you would think they’re a generation apart.
I loved this game and still listen to the Magneto boss battle them every now and then. It's so good!
Absolutely. I will pop this soundtrack in via TH-cam OST and blast it 🤘🏻
This and comixzone has the best game art design back then
100%
And same, love this game so much
It's one of my all-time favorite sega X-MEN games besides the 4-player arcade!
Good times, man
😎
🎮
Same, my man! 🤘🏻
The Gameplay 10/10!
The Characters 10/10!
Level Design 10/10!
But The Music…
1000000000000/10!

Thank You For This Video!!!
Thank you, my man!! 🤘🏻
I love the so much too. Classic soundtrack
I don’t remember this game or care about it, but your commentary is hysterical! Keep it up!
Haha thank you, my man!
Love this game so much that I kept it since childhood even tho I don't have a Genesis to play it on anymore.
I hear ya! It’s one of those games that you just have to keep.
Now let's not pretend for a second that the game that came before this is actually amazing too. Still have a physical to this day, one of my all-time most played games as a child. And a few very memorable songs on the soundtrack as well!
Yea I’m not the biggest fan of the first game. I was always all about the second one
This soundtrack is amazing!
Dude for real! It’s in my top 5 on the Genesis. So classic
Huge step up from the first game. In the first game, they limited mutant powers but Clone Wars threw that out the window!! Plus, Magneto was playable!😊
Exactly! Such a huge improvement
The difficulty was perfect, not too hard, rewarding and beatable as a kid
Couldn’t agree more
Thanks for the awesome video on such a wonderful game!
Thanks for the awesome comment! Glad you liked it. This is one of my favorite Sega Genesis games ever, as I’m sure you could tell lol
@@VicariouslyRetro It doesn't get enough love!
@@SheWolfVal totally agreed! I made it a point to make an in-depth video about it. I hope it did it justice
Thanks, my man! I really appreciate it
My favorite intro music ever was for this game. I loved those 10 seconds 😂
It’s so good, right? Sounds like something out of the 90’s animated series
I gotta check it out
Omg, I miss this game so bad. Truly one of the best ones I have played during my lifetime.
Right? As you can tell, I still pop it in from time to time
It really was one of my favorite games of all time now that I have to think of it. I loved this game
Same!
Try connecting the Bluetooth controller via USB-C. Big difference as well.
Yea for sure, thanks. I also started using the 2.4 GHz which is way better with the input lag.
I loved this game. Thank you for bringing me back
Thanks for watching!
I was obsessed with this game and the Show . The amount diversity X men showed got me
I loved the 90’s cartoon back in the day. So good
Just stumbled upon your channel, and I've been binging your backlog. Excellent videos, man. I hope your channel takes off!
Thanks, bro! Appreciate it! 🍻
Yea I do enjoy Mutant Apocalypse, totally different game, but badass in its own right. Haha 😗👌🏻
Do more of these pls mate. I’d love to see your take on Maximum Carnage etc. The script was 👌. Keep grinding!
Oh good pick… had that game growing up. And thanks, will do, appreciate it 🤘🏻
This game is fire. Definitely underrated. It's a gem. I 1st played it on a Sega Nomad. Many, many double A batteries were used.
Absolutely! Haha dude the Sega Nomad was so awesome. I always wanted one as a kid
That glory hole reference was…….a choice. I would reset the first level over and over just to get Gambit. He and Nightcrawler are my favorites, but Gambit theme was bad ass!
Hahaha. Yea Gambit was a lot of fun to play as
If you don't mind using cheat codes, there was one that allowed you to move magneto while he was hovering, left or right. You could still shoot too! That completely made him outstanding now that you could fly around with him like in this earlier boss level.
Ah I didn’t know about that cheat. I’ll have to look it up, thanks
@@VicariouslyRetro game genie code
Adpv-2a3a
Rdpv-2cbc
Both those together will do it. Or use retroarch and it will already be loaded to activate.
I didn't know this game was so good! Thank you!
No prob!
IT'S NOT!!! just everyone saying and repeating years of BS, it's just nostalgia!!! if you want a good xmen game play Xmen legends on ps2 and Xmen the arcade game which was rereleased on ps2 and other platforms!
@@robertgreen7148 and thank you for the props 🤙🏻
I got this game as a kid when it first dropped at Toys R Us. At first my friends were skeptical of playing it due to the first game, but once they saw how good this one played, they were hooked! Still got my copy!
Nice, man! Yea when I got this game I didn’t know what to expect. The first level was pretty cool but the second level, the sentinel complex, blew me away as a kid. Playing that as wolverine got me hooked and I never looked back
Therapist: When did your anxiety start?
Me: Sentinel complex escape route😬
Hahaha that’s great
Man!!! This brings back such good memories!!! I would play this game alllll day!
Right? Same! 🤙🏻
I remember playing the first one at my rich cousin's house. I would eventually try to beat it but it was a hard game. I tried every time I went over but it was too hard for both of us.
Yea the first game is very tough. This game is no joke either lol
A save feature would have be great. Honestly, I would’ve been happy with a password system lol. I never played the game gear one, I’ll check it out
I had X Men 2 and Spider Man/X Men Arcade Revenge as a kid!
X Men 2 is one of my favorite games of all time

Some kid stole that game out of my backpack at recess in 7th grade. Im still crying once or twice a year about it. 😢
God damn. Of course it had to be THAT game and not some shitty sports game lol
Recess in the 7th grade? U were definitely in special ed
I owned a Genesis and a SNES as a kid. Unfortunately the SNES had that Genesis collecting dust and I missed out on a lot of great games.
Within the first few seconds of this video I was in love with the character models alone. Im gonna have to give this a shot.
You def need to give this a shot! It’s an amazing Genesis exclusive
@@VicariouslyRetro I will for sure! I'm working on putting together a little retro gaming console... well, it's really just an old chromebook from the covid days that I'm filling up with old games but still lol
I havent started with Genesis yet but this game is top of the list. Any other exclusives or games that are better on Genesis that you would recommend?
Everything u said about this game is all 100 percent true 👍🏾👍🏾
🤘🏻
Fun fact the music was composed by information society. This game had nothing but bangers!
Yes! I did know this and forgot to mention it in the video. Soundtrack is amazing
I loved this game as a kid and the ost is so good.
Truth!
I loved playing this as a kid in Brisbane Australia. I still have the game somewhere. It's Sega Megadrive here in Aus and Europe I think.
Hold on to it! It’s a treasured piece in the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive collection lol
I always remember getting stuck after a few levels whenever I rented it as a kid, and I keep seeing copies at my local retro game shop. I'm tempted to pick it up for cheap and see if I could actually do better today.
It’s funny, I feel like I do much better as an adult than I did as a kid when it comes to these older games. Give it a shot!
I remember playing this as a kid... being stuck on the sentinel stage. I used to PANIC when trying to find a way out when it was blowing up. I felt so accomplished when I figured it out!
Hahaha yea, with the screen shaking. I remember being like holy fu*k when I first played that stage.
Love this game. Remember playing with the homies back in the day.
🤘🏻
I prefer the side scrolling beat em up for SNES by Capcom
I hear ya, man. I do like that game. I just prefer this one much more.
I have this along with over 250 original Genesis titles as a kid. This stands as remarkable to this day. Also RoboCop Vs Terminator for Genesis. Play it. ❤
Damn, 250? Impressive!
Oh man I love Robocop vs the terminator. Way better than the snes version too
I had this game when I was a kid. Me and my cousins used to play this a lot. Good times...
For sure!
I love when the younger gen discovers gems like X-Men 2 Clone Wars. An underrated classic. This is the blueprint of what a 90s X-Men title should look , feel and sound like.
100%, my man. These younglings don’t get how good this is
@@VicariouslyRetro Facts! Straight Facts! I hope we get a X-Men 97 game based on the style of X-Men Clone wars 2. That would be incredible. If Boltgun can come out and be one of the best 40k games to come out and be retro, I dont see why X-Men couldn't get some of that modern retro magic.

No joke, this is in my top 5 all time games. I have the cartridge in my hobby room even though i dont have a console that plays it anymore.
That’s awesome. It’s def one of my favorites too. I still play it regularly from time to time 🤘🏻
Outside of maybe the Capcom Marvel series fighting games, this is most definitely the best X-Men game of all time. One of my personal favourites!
I totally agree with you
I swear I was the only one who had this game or heard of it, right next to Shadowman
Did you mean Shadowrun? And yea, not many people played X-Men 2 back in the day. It was a late release (1995)
The fact they threw you into a blizzard as soon as you turned the power on was wild
Yup lol. Such an iconic first level
Totally agree with you, for the Genesis, but my favorite on the super nes would be xmen apocalypse, kinda similar to this one, with less characters
Yea. It’s funny a lot of people have commented that their favorite is Mutant Apocalypse, which I do like. I was a Sega guy growing up so this will always be my favorite.
I played the first one a lot and thought it was great. I only played this one a few times. The graphics hold up really well.
Oh man you should give this one a serious try. It’s amazing
My mate and I rented this when we were 12 and were blown away. We rented it again every opportunity we got and eventually got to the point where we could beat the game on one life. I swear we even finished the game once without getting hit at all
Damn, that is impressive. Ive been playing this game my whole life and I still die regularly even though I’m able to beat it.
It was such a cool game because each character had different stages abilities difficulties Etc of very unique for its time
Yup! Just like the mega man weapons but way more advanced. Love it
Great game but I miss the helpers and cameos of other X-men like from the first game
Haha yea I remember those. Like in streets of rage 1 with the cop car bazooka
