I don't mind having to push a button to get the claws out, as long as they stay out until I tell them to retract again. That's a big part of the fun of pretending to be Wolverine - the SNIKT as the claws come out
I managed to buy this game for $3.00 at a convention, and at that convention I got it signed by Chris Claremont, who helped create uncanny X-Men. Probably the best $3.00 I've ever spent.
My childhood could have been spared so much frustration if my kid-brain had made the connection between the "LJN" logo and terrible games. But instead I walked head-on in to abomination after abomination.
Wait, doesn’t Wolverine have a healing factor? Shouldn’t he be able to regenerate health? And how does colossus even take damage, I thought he was bulletproof?!
In the Wolverine NES game, they should've had his health slowly recharge if you're not using the claws. If you select them, his health doesn't but you do more damage. It gives players more an option. Do more damage or have you health drain slower.

redandblue323 do you idiots realize it was 8 bit? and X-Men was not nearly as popular as today? I liked the game! Wolverine was fun too. If you were a kid when this came out, and the only other x-men game was the coin-op then you'd love this. Otherwise you are just not a true NES gamer. You need a code to unlock Magneto too that is on the cover label
You were not the only one. We all had that problem during the 8-bit and 16-bit eras. We just didn't have a way of knowing if a game was any good unless we had gaming magazines or we heard something about the game from other players through word of mouth. If you didn't have many friends with your console or a subscription to a gaming magazine, you had to hope for the best when buying a new game, since you could only see a glimpse of the game in action by looking at the game's cover and the pictures in the back of the box that the game came packaged in.
Mutant Apocalypse on the SNES was the shit, but Clone Wars is pretty good, too. The claw retracting mechanic is usually done in such a way that Wolvie's healing factor only kicks in when his claws aren't out. That clearly took some time to figure out, and even though it doesn't make in-universe sense, I think it works from a gameplay standpoint, if executed well.
That intro music for "X-Men" on Sega Genesis really brings me back... so nostalgic - almost as iconic as the theme song for "X-Men: The Animated Series"

Yeah, that game was surprisingly decent, I was playing with that and I enjoyed it.
I feel like the Wolverine game is a little TOO accurate to the character. Like, his claws actually do hurt him, it's just that his healing factor keeps them in check. Dude is actually in constant pain due to having his adamantium skeleton. Healing by using beer also checks out. Wolverine drinks so much, that only an Australian can accurately portray him.
Apparently LJN was purely a publisher, i.e. they didn't develop a single one of their games. Thing is they never actually credited the developer, and it takes some digging to actually find the information. Would you believe that such classics as "A Nightmare on Elm Street", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "The Amazing Spiderman" (gameboy), and "Beetlejuice" were developed by Rare? Atlus did a handful of LJN games as well, possibly including this "The Uncanny X-Men" game.

If I’m feeling down, I can watch these videos and they really help me feel better ❤
How the hell do you fuck up Wolverine so badly that you can't justify using his claws, hahaha.
Plural of Genesis: Geneses. (Greek γενέσεις).
what??!!!
CAPCOM fighting games like “X-men children of the atom” and “X-men VS Street Fighter” are gorgeous🔥🔥🔥
I love the arcade beat em up. Played with one at our local toyshop of all places back then. The panoramic screen looked awesome!
7:16 did anyone else notice that silver surfer music in the wolverine game?
5:45 I don't know why but this makes me laugh everytime. Watching him get cheaply killed by a freezing enemy
The irony makes me laugh: *ICEMAN,* the mutant that *FREEZES* things, is frozen by the enemy.

I just heard the same joke in the Deadpool 2 movie.
What same joke?
@@rebelfleettrooper9881 the whole "X-Men being sexist" thing
Avgn, the best video games reviewer of all time. Thank you for your time sir. As a snes/nes/sega fan i really appreciate it
Apparently LJN was purely a publisher, i.e. they didn't develop a single one of their games.
