  • Something I have wanted to do for ages, make a stand for my Milwaurkee portable bandsaw. Made from scrap along the lines of one made by Black Bear Forge.

I like that you narrate your videos. You do a great job at it and you control background noise. I don’t work with metal, but a learn a lot from you. Plus, it’s a nice mix to see the horses once in a while.

A very nice build. I have a similar saw, but I mounted a duplex receptacle on mine controlled by a light switch and taped the throttle wide open. I don't use the variable speed much, so it is much less cumbersome than messing around with a block of wood. Thank's for the share.

Thank you for posting your own take on John Switzer's Porta-Band stand design. I have a few ideas on how I want my stand to look, function, and work, but your video gave me a couple new ideas for how to approach my build.

Very handy! I've taken the twist out of "I" and "H" beams by burning a hot spot weld and then smacking it with a hammer before it solidifies. The smack draws it close and the cooling pulls it in. Tremendous pulling power is produced and, by repeating this procedure, salvage steel can be made useful, again.

Great video, thank you. I have also been searching different peoples solutions and agree the majority of them make it permanently mounted which defeats the purpose. I find the ones for sale are also outrageously expensive for what they are. I could actually buy a cheap Benchtop bandsaw for the same price. Going to use this idea, thanks to you and the originator.

Great video. I saw the one on black bear too. I built a stand for a portable saw I had in my old shoeing trailer. I threw it together one afternoon because I needed it the next day. It was pretty rough but worked well enough I was too lazy to build another one. I sold the trailer and some stuff in it so I need a new stand. This one is great. I watched the Black Bear video too. I will be heading to the scrap yard tomorrow for coil and leaf springs to make punches. I will have to see what is around to use for a base.

Very nice stand and I think I'll copy it for myself. I would add a table that would give me a larger service to put what I'm cutting on. It could just sit over the C channel base and slip over the blade. That would make it quick to lift off and take the saw out.

Excellent, I've been watching quite a few trying to settle on a design. I don't like a lot of them as the weight of the saw rests totally on the 2 screws that mount the work rest. One that hangs from the handles like this is just what I had in mind. Only need a few changes to fit the brand saw I have. Thanks!

I’ve been stuck between making my own and buying the Swag table for a while now. The Swag table allows you to disconnect the saw from the table and use it portable...the cutting table stays attached, it just pops out of the stand. Still, I really like this idea too. I’m still torn. I really shouldn’t wait until I need it last minute but I probably will.

A few years ago after looking at a lot of TH-cam on bandsaw standsI came up with the most simple and efficient idea that you can imagineit's nothing more than a piece of plumbing pipe a flange a hole drilled at the right height that meets up with the bolt thathat holds the handle on the saw.u only need to make a simple adapter piece with a thread and a knob to tighten or loosen so you can take off band saw and use it in a normal fashion.works great.if I knew how to put it on you tube I would share it..so so so simple and cheap

Very cool! This beast of a stand looks extremely robust. I had to bolt the SWAG to the work bench so that it doesn't move when I bear down on it. This looks heavy enough that you probably don't need to. The SWAG 3.0 actually is detachable! There is a 5" x 6" insert that replaces that little black table, and you attach it to the rest of the SWAG table with a single screw/knob thingy that screws/unscrews from the bottom. My only real complaint about it is that the blade is not perfectly 90 degrees perpendicular to the table, and there is no way to adjust it on the SWAG.

Adding a ideal as so not to need to "thead the saws cord thur the back .As I to copy Mr. John S. idealizing blended with your too good craftmanship.

Get yourself a foot pedal switch to plug the saw into when you're using it on the table, then you don't have to jam some random bit into the handle

  • @petermississauga598

I came across this great video some time ago and still haven't built a stand for my Milwaukee. I don't care what the wife has planned for this weekend because hell or high water, I'm building one! Question, sir. When you go to install the table plate, will you be somehow attaching it to the body of the saw or, just with the three original screws? Also, did you just "eye ball" the angle of the up rights? If not, how did you come up with the angle as it's perfect. Thanks for sharing! Regards.

    • @garyhuston
      @garyhuston  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Peter Mississauga I’ve been using it for about a year now and yes, I just used the original holes. I just held the saw upright and drew a line on the box corresponding to the handle, so yes, just eyeballed it!

Wire speed sounds quite a bit lower than it needs to be, almost sounds on the verge of stopping all together at some points. Maybe it's just the audio pickups. Cool stand none the less.

Thanks for posting. I've placed this comment on other videos, just hoping to get some useful feedback. I have a porta-band saw blade question. I have a Harbor Freight porta-band saw that I've mounted (similar to this) on my wall. I've been using it to split rail road spikes and it works great but after cutting about an hour (accumulative time) the blade develops metal fatigue and little fractures develop all along the back of the blade (perpendicular to the length of the blade). Eventually the blade begins to "lope" because of the fractures and subsequently breaks. The teeth are in great shape & sharp and could cut for untold hours more if not for the cracks that lead to breakage. Is this common to all porta-band saws or just Harbor Freight models? Is it just the cheap Harbor Freight blades? What is a recommended quality blade? I think the blade length is 44 1/2 inches (going from memory right now)? Looking at the guide bearings they are very, very close to the large drive wheels and this puts a sharp angle change to the blade twice on each revolution. Is this a bad design that isn't present in other higher priced models? Thanks for any advice.

Sorry, I have no idea. I have never used a Harbor Freight machine and have never had any problems with the Milwaukee.

Hey, Gary. How did you get on with the plate you wanted to put on that little portaband ? Did you end up putting it on as a table or leaving the saw as is ?

Yes I put a plate on it and now only use it as a vertical saw. It works really good. If I remember I'll swing by it when I do my next workshop update.

@@garyhuston okay, thanks so much ! I bought a portaband yesterday and want to make a similar stand to what you have made. I believe i have enough scrap lying around the shop.
