I really, REALLY wish for project tea-cup to be put out in the world at some point. I will keep a spot for it in my bookshelf until it finds it's way! All the best on your journey!
I teared up at the words on the screen while you were typing on your laptop towards the end. You have a very wise way of looking at rejection and how to work while waiting during the querying process. I’ve read the stories on your website and you’re a very talented writer, so I believe project teacup will be published someday, and I can’t wait to read it!
Christy - thank you for your vulnerability in sharing your querying journey. I'm still in drafting mode but hope to be where you are soon. I know how difficult every rejection must feel - gosh it's hard. I know also that you are a BEAUTIFUL writer and I look forward to holding a novel of yours in my hands one day - soon! Big hugs from Ireland - you've got this x
I am so jealous of all these gorgeous libraries you find to work in! Our local library is a converted department store from the 1970s and is in desperate need of an update 😅
Thank you for talking about this process and also about rejection! I feel like we only get to see and read success stories but it's tough and not everyone is so lucky to be picked up right away.. anyway, we have to be strong and write on!! It's too much fun to create stories not to! I'm really trying to make a step to make an actual writing routine since I'm also kind of gearing up to write a longer story/novel length for the first time... but I feel like I need to make decisions about the story first before I can get into the meat of it ;_; it's so difficult to plan everything out. thank you for inspiring us!!!! I really love these writing vlogs, it makes it so much more clear that it's a practice you have to keep at and that things take time!
I had to put one of my beloved brainstorming projects in the drawer, and I'm trying to find something new to fill my imagination as I work through rewrites of my first novel. You always inspire me so much with your vlogs and they're just so cosy, so thankyou!
I feel like my heart absolutely stopped when I saw she had a reply from an agent (before we could tell it wasn't positive). We're all rooting for you Christy, crossing our fingers and holding our thumbs - as the swedes say
So much patience and trust required, what with things being so out of control. Even the faith in a new process, all over again. It's absurd how my anxieties bubble up while simply listening to another person's journey. I have so much respect for how you tighten your on grip the things that can be changed. It's something I massively struggle with. The waiting immediately reminded me of your introduction of Brandon Sanderson, of how he spoke freely about how his, like, nine novels got rejected, yet he still felt he was improving as a writer and therefore vowed to create his greatest novel yet. (My anxieties at the max, wow!!) You'll get there, some wonderful day in the future, if you hold on to your confident outlook on life 🌻 PS: The teashop - I live for those kind of magical coincidences 😍
Hey Christy! Now, this comes from someone who never commented before and who generally doesn't write comments on any videos at all. But I really love your videos and thought that it might be time to leave some kind words, because I think you deserve them. I discovered your channel at the beginning of this year and felt immediately drawn to the cozy, calm atmosphere of your videos and to you as a person, as you seem kind and optimistic and creative. Of course, I can't compare my own experiences to your experiences, but as an aspiring writer myself, your resolve and optimism is very motivating. More than once have your videos been the reason I "found the time" again to keep on working on my novel and you'll never stop being an inspiration for me, and probably for many others. I really, really, really hope that your novel gets published; it seems that you put so much effort and time and love into it and I admire that so much. (sry, if that came off as weird in any way; I genuinely mean it)
I totally feel the rejection, but you're doing the right thing! Rejection is inevitable in any creative discipline, I'm a professional classical musician and I have had so much rejection, but I'm finally starting to get gigs with professional orchestras! You just have to keep pushing through and eventually you'll make it!!! It took me forever, over 10 years of school, 22 years of private lessons and well over 30-40 rejections lol. Also, I will be buying project teacup as soon as it is out 😊
I really hope you get published,I truly believe no one deserves it as much as you. I hope I find my own voice and write something, even if it's just for myself. I understand how it feels to have stories in your head and the urge to put them on paper.❤
Having that different persona for the 20yr old job-self is so real. Totally get that. Loved seeing you treat yourself with your surroundings tho. Your struggles, ups and downs are so relatable.
I find your attitude towards rejection inspiring. Although rejection hurts, you don’t let it discourage you and I admire that. I hope to read Project Teacup someday and I wish you all the best with your next novel 😊
I'm so excited you decided to start a new novel writing series :) I found your channel in the middle of Project Teacup and got really inspired by your tenacity! Good luck with the querying process!
Wonderful to see you plunging right back into a new project. I hope it makes dealing with the rejections a little less painful. I'd like to recommend a book that helped me brainstorm a new project. It's called "Story Engineering: Mastering the 6 Core Competencies of Successful Writing" by Larry Brooks. It has advice for developing your concept and concept questions before starting your first draft. The concept questions act as an overview of the shape of your story without tying you to a strict outline. Compare it to going on a hike. If pantsing is setting out with no idea of where you're going, and outlining is following a GPS which gives you a detailed path then concept questions are setting out with a compass and list of landmarks to discover before you get to the end of the end of your first draft.
Hope you are having a lovely time in Melbourne. I can say from my own experience that the journey to publication is a long and challenging one, but having a supportive agent on your corner is a great asset. Best of luck.
I'm querying for the first time right now, and it is so nice to see someone else go through the process too. It is tough, but I love your thoughts about it in this video: focusing on what we can control.
Started using Milanote this week randomly for my graphic novel, it really is great! Think the pricing is a bit steep, but the functionality is amazing 😁
I just wanted to let you know how impressed and proud to see your work on Project Teacup! I can’t even imagine all the work and brain power and creativity it takes to write a book, let alone to get published. Best of luck to you on the next one!
Querying and rejections are BRUTAL, especially during and after the pandemic. Much of the advice that was applicable before is no longer even close to accurate. It's so, SO hard, but keep your chin up and keep trying! It was pre-covid, but I promised myself I would only send 3 more queries after being so burnt out on rejection after rejection. Never got anything past a form rejection. That third query got me my agent. Love your vlogs, and love seeing your journey so far!
@@starklingspars8956 I signed with my agent mid-2018, after querying for two years! So definitely not as brutal as post-pandemic querying. Yay! I'm so happy to be here during the start of a new project this time! Good luck on Project Teacup! No matter what, that book has already helped me on my own journey! Thank you for sharing the ups and downs
I’m in the same place you are - querying and beginning something new - and I completely understand what you mean about how hard it is to move on while receiving rejections. Cheering you on and keeping my fingers crossed for you!! 🤞😊 This was a beautiful vlog and that tea sounded so yummy!

Oh gosh I fell in love with that exact fairy journal at title bookshop in Sydney. I love paper-blanks. That little old world tea-room is just my style, the library and the type of books you’re writing all resonate deeply with me. I just adore your videos so much on my dreary days they are really inspiring and resonate.
My heart fell and I felt your frustration/sadness/disappointment from the agent's email to your novel query. Thank you for sharing your process, Christy! I’m so excited for more of your books to be published!! You’ve got this! Also watching your adventures and writing process is so inspiring so thank you for making these vlogs 😊✨

My Gosh, the rejection moment made my eyes teary. I really feel you. Hope you can move on to the new projekt so we can all enjoy new story :) Good luck and have hope! Love you!
Welcome to Melbourne Christy! Ah yes the rain, we've definitely been having four seasons in one day at the moment. The State Library is so gorgeous to work in - did they still have their Guttenberg Bible (just pages I think) and Ned Kelly's armour? I'm glad you got to finally go to the Hopetoun (Hope-ton) Tea Rooms at the beautiful Block Arcade! I hope you got to have some chocolate at Haigh's as well. The Dymocks next to the arcade is nice to browse too. One-ish street over is DeGreaves Street which has some lovely cafe's/dumpling houses/wine bars (Hells Upstairs is very cosy) and there's usually an excellent busker playing. I also recommend a cocktail at Eau de Vie, and a cosy meal at Moat under the State Library. Most places don't have signs though, so you just have to know that they're there ✨
Rejection burnout is heavy. Maybe you can put a filter on those addresses and forward them automatically to a loved one, who can show them to you once a month? Of course, when there is good news, they can tell immediately. Then it won't break your spirit as much.
I think you touched on this briefly before, but I’d love to know your thoughts of self/publishing versus traditional and how you made your decision! I really hope project teacup finds a home ❤️
There's a dnd adventure called The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, and it's a fairy/fey circus that appears once every eight years hahaha. Maybe check it out for brainstorming ideas!
I would be super interested to see a more in depth video about how you come up with and refine ideas for projects. I've been working on a new project recently and am having the hardest time narrowing an abstract idea of what I'm interested in to something concrete and focused.
I love your content! Do not allow traditional publishing outlets keep your words from getting out in the world. Be an indie author. Traditional publishers have too many gatekeepers and they can emphasize the wrong things. I was in traditional publishing with a major house for years (in marketing). My advice is to self publish. Keep up the great work!! Love your channel!
Having just finished draft 4 of my current wip, and getting very near the fishing for agents process myself, watching you query is inspring. All i can say is, You go Girl.❤🎉😊 Writing is like your baby and having it regected sucks. But keep with it. I'm sure New York Times Best Seller is just around the corner for you. Best of luck Christy!❤
Hi, Christy! What’s the font you use in your videos? It’s a beautiful italic serif and it’s so aligned with your brand and personality! And hand in there! The right agent and publisher will show up and it’s going to be amazing ❤
I envy your ability to write. I have been trying to get better about doing so and have continuously failed at keeping a schedule and my own momentum going. You've inspired me to sit down and try to get something on the page. But good lord do I just WISH it was as easy as video editing makes it seem lol or maybe you are just that disciplined and can sit down and write. Too much of my own writing process is day dreaming in the shower lol
Have you read the Ladies of Grace Adieu by Susanna Clarke? Same world-ish as Strange and Norrell but short fiction. I also love Lolly Willowes by Townsend. I have Kingdom of Elfin by Townsend in my TBR pile. Stardust by Gaiman. Oh, I hope you have success with Tea Cup!
Just remember that Stephen King and Harry Potter got rejected over 12 times before publication. I'm hoping someone picks up my self-published books at some point. Good luck! Don't give up. :)
Ah dude, recently really loved getting into your channel and it's inspired me to use my creativity more! Like others I was Sorry to see your rejection face. Looking forward to the day we all get to read it!
I've really enjoyed watching your videos and your querying journey has given me perspective on what it takes to get a book out there. What's the update on Project Tea Cup now? It's my aim to have my first draft done by the end of this year.
Christy, I was listening to you speaking about your experience working on marketing and in my head it was playing "The man" by Taylor Swift 😤 By the way, i feel impress that you can write in such a pretty notebook, I struggle to do that 😅😅😅
Hi! Do you sell signed copies of A Year in Tokyo? I have the ebook but would love to order the physical book to have in my home and having a signed copy would be a treat. :)
Christy you are the coziest 😂 What a doll 🤩 Them agencies! they don’t deserve to publish Christy Ann Jones 😉 Ps I loved the way you described how good the sandwich was, I believe you. Good luck 🤞
Hey Christy! I have loved following your Project Teacup journey. I know you are submitting to agents, but I am curious if you are also submitting directly to publishing houses. I know that a lot of houses are taking submissions from unagented authors, and thought this might be an avenue for you to explore if you are not already :) Love from Canada (ps I am very excited to discover what Project Teacup's real title is!)
I’m keeping all fingers crossed that Project Teacup gets accepted. If not, would you consider self-publishing? BTW, I read your book A Year in Tokyo, it was great!❤
I really, REALLY wish for project tea-cup to be put out in the world at some point. I will keep a spot for it in my bookshelf until it finds it's way! All the best on your journey!
Aww it broke my heart seeing your expression after receiving the rejection. I will keep my fingers crossed for you! You deserve a chance. ❤
I felt it! I felt the rejection! Kee your head high. You’ll get the book published! Keep at it.

All i can say is, You go Girl.❤🎉😊 Writing is like your baby and having it regected sucks. But keep with it. I'm sure New York Times Best Seller is just around the corner for you. Best of luck Christy!❤
I can not wait to read whatever you write ❤❤❤
I'm so excited to watch this🧡
Christy is amazing ✨💛✨
Thank you for this video I adore 🥰
Is RCW literary agency on your list? They just published a fantasy/ children’s novel : Skandar and the Unicorn Thief.
I saw that notebook in Dillons! I nearly bought it.
I wish more libraries in the US looked like the ones you visit...I'm so jealous
Love your new notebook- great choice- is it ultra size?🌺
Christy, I was listening to you speaking about your experience working on marketing and in my head it was playing "The man" by Taylor Swift 😤
By the way, i feel impress that you can write in such a pretty notebook, I struggle to do that 😅😅😅
Hi! Do you sell signed copies of A Year in Tokyo? I have the ebook but would love to order the physical book to have in my home and having a signed copy would be a treat. :)
Christy you are the coziest 😂 What a doll 🤩
Them agencies! they don’t deserve to publish Christy Ann Jones 😉
Ps I loved the way you described how good the sandwich was, I believe you. Good luck 🤞
In USA, an “arcade” is a place with video games. Is it something different in Australia?
The actual meaning of the word 'arcade' is this: "a covered passage with arches along one or both sides" :)
Very brave of you to self publish. An episode to talk about the self publishing industry would be wonderful
Question: Do you type with one finger at a time, or with multiple fingers?
muito bom!
Hey Christy! I have loved following your Project Teacup journey. I know you are submitting to agents, but I am curious if you are also submitting directly to publishing houses. I know that a lot of houses are taking submissions from unagented authors, and thought this might be an avenue for you to explore if you are not already :)
Love from Canada (ps I am very excited to discover what Project Teacup's real title is!)
Maybe try the Ray Bradbury Short Story Challenge 🤷🏽♀️
Self publish - take back control
I’m keeping all fingers crossed that Project Teacup gets accepted. If not, would you consider self-publishing? BTW, I read your book A Year in Tokyo, it was great!❤
Victoria’s State Library looks a lot like the US Library if Congress 😮
One of your new projects could be named "Project Arcade" :D
What is the name of the song in the outro of this day video
🤞
