It was by complete accident that I finished draft 6 of my novel while on holiday in Japan (I had meant to finish it in March originally well before this trip 😅), so it is also a happy accidence that, this time, 'refilling the creative well' and getting over burn out came in the form of taking it easy while on holiday, not shoving as many things as possible into our itinerary, not filming every little snippet for content, etc. I hope you enjoy this haphazard week in Tokyo vlog. It was a joy to gently make xx
Rest breaks are essential. I just gave myself my first 3 week enforced break in 9.5 years. I did another bookbinding class today which I'm sure some fellow book nerds in here will appreciate. I really recommend it for anyone wanting to learn, including you, Christy of course! My bookbinding teacher just got back from a trip to Japan and she got so many wonderful supplies and papers there. I've heard Japan is wonderful for the art, craft and stationery-junkies among us :) 💚💚
A refilling the well vlog is so comforting. Honestly, loads of footage in this one. If you need to meet the algorithm feel free to set up a single cam and do some r'ead-with-me for a half hour' while you get some pages down. We definitely support you getting rest. This was a lovely, gorgeous video with good messages 💛✨
Thank you so much for the flashing lights warning! So important for those of us affected by those. Not enough people think about it so I really appreciate you!
I love watching your videos! I truly appreciate this one because burnout is such a struggle. Mine took literal years to heal properly. I’m just coming out of it. So I really appreciate you as a content creator and a writer showing how you manage. Can’t pour from an empty cup!
Resting is so important. It's so easy to get stuck into working hard, while it is productive, it does cause burnout. I had to start scheduling days where I just took a day to relax and read. It's now a 24 hour readathon I host that just reminds us to rest 😅
It makes me really happy to see you taking it easy and taking the time to relax, Christy, and congratulations on finishing Project Teacup this time as well!! Really enjoyed the video, as always, and I hope you and Tyler had an amazing time in Japan again! Take care🧡🌱
Those teal books with the gold edges are called the Pan MacMillian Collector's Library editions ^_^. I've started getting really nerdy about editions of books lately lol
So lovely to see you again! I've been watching (or rather listening ) your videos whenever I'd feel exhausted or burnt out so in a way you were my creative well during that period. It warms my heart to see you vanquish this project of yours 🤍
Lovely as always! Your words on burnout and productivity really resonated. I was like yesterday-years-old when I finally stumbled onto Cal Newport’s work (in a Creative Pep Talk podcast episode) and his thoughts around “slow productivity” were like medicine to my soul. Just throwing that out there in case you haven’t heard of his work! ❤
It’s been a while but I have never clicked on a video faster than when I saw the title of this one. I needed this Christy- thank you. Happy creating to us both 💖
I am so so glad you are taking this time to take care of yourself and recover! The most beautiful act of self-care is sometimes knowing when to stop ❤ hope it went ok for your sinuses on the plane too 😅
Hello, Christy! Love your content! Also would love to see like a list of your favourite Japan places - how yo get there and what better to know, like a loose guide
This was so soothing to watch! You have described the creative process/feeling of creating TH-cam videos and writing so well in terms of burnout. It does feel like a hamster wheel!
You’ve changed your hair!!!! I remember you did that when you finished Project Tea Cup before querying it as well!! I love your new hair, by the way, it’s beautiful! ❤
I've been in a burnout since 2014. Haven't been able to get out of that rut yet. My day job causes me to not have energy for hobbies as much as I used to. For some reason writing stories was easier in high school for me.
I absolutely adore Macmillan Collector's Libary books. Several years ago, when I lived in Edinburgh I found two books in a charity shop for 1 pound each. I decided I will buy classic english literature in this series. (perfect size and such an elegant style) Now I have 10 books from them, most of them Jane Austen. Furthermore, of course, after your recommendation I put a hand on a copy of Christina Rossetti's Goblin Market as well. Enjoy your holiday! :) Best wishes from Hungary🌻
This is such a cozy vlog! I’m glad you had such a good time in Tokyo! I was in Tokyo in 2000 and bought a Pokémon pinball game for my Game Boy Color at the time and the game is in Japanese. I still have it! Wild! I love the vibes of this vlog so much! I hope you get lots of inspiration from it! 🥰
Just wanted to watch this to wind down and feel good but then you went to Paddlers, sat in the exact same spot that I sat in a year ago and now I'm crying my eyes out, because I miss it so much!!
I would recommend the book "The only Gaijin in the Village" by Iain Maloney. It is about the author's experiences in rural Japan. It is really funny and lighthearded told. I bought it 2020 in Japan. No idea if they still sell it. But it is an incredible good book. I remember finished it on plane on the way back. I was laughing so hard so that some passengers were looking at me funny XD
Beautiful as always and an amazing trip ❤ Funnily I have the same backpack as you, I bought it in Japan in 2018 and it still holds up! Everyone had one back then, guess they are not in style anymore nowadays if they are so hard to find 😅
I am also a writer and content creator (just not as big as you are haha), and I love to bits your content!!! keep doing more, you're great! Lov from brazil!
Love the vlog, love Japan! My books coming along, I’m currently half way through with word count: 91232. But it’s probably full of typos but hey that’s what editing is for or what editors is for 😅
I wonder if ye have ever come to Kyoto,Osaka,Nara and Wakayama prefectures, the Kansai region,Japan. My Aussie mate and his JP wife with their two daughters in Brisbane will come to Japan this September but he is not sure if they will come to the Kansai region yet. cheers

Never feel guilty for resting. You need it, you do not have to earn it. An unproductive day is not a wasted day.
Strong agree! 💛

9:30 a sausage in a croissant! Reminds me of my childhood! In Russia, we call them 'a sausage in the dough' and they are typical for school canteens😄
Excited to see what happens next for you after a much deserved break!
I love 1Q84!!!!
