I agree. It looks like this thing's purpose was to protect Earth from whatever corrupted the sun. But the SCP foundation had "contained" it, which prevented it from saving the Earth.

This. This series right here is why When Day Breaks is my favorite 001 Proposal. Not only is it terrifying that something like this happens, but it also, as demonstrated through this series, completely opens the door to a fascinating premise, especially with the context of every other SCP in extistence. How would they be effected by this? Would some ally with Humans or retain their destructive nature? It's fascinating, and I love it.
Unfortunately the actual "canon"(as in, in the article) When Day Breaks is a lot less interesting. All Anomalies just lose their anomalous properties instantly on contact with the sun.

I know, drawing connections to the real world- erm, Jupiter's spot, having a super advanced machine slowly repair itself out of a gravitational stalemate, it's all super cool.
Honestly the drawings of Jupiter and Io were breathtaking, you've improved alot ever since the first WDB. (Random ideas for two WDB tales:(1)A tale about the eggs of SCP-1682(Either them hatching or it being the reason for WDB) (2)A tale about a Janitor that works at site 19 and now has to deal with fuck all everything
Honestly because scp 179 was talking with something she referred to as her “Brother” meaning that the confrontation between 179 and 1682 in the wdb 179 vid was what the civilization that sent 2399 was trying to prevent all along if you really think about it.

So (if I remember correctly) by this point we have 3 ongoing plans that could save this universe or at least this Earth: 1. Nuclear Winter - Plan Started (Can save Earth) 2. Yellowstone Reset Button - Plan Delayed by the Nukes (Can save Earth) 3. The Saviour - Plan Ongoing (Can save the Universe) Edit: Thanks for cleaning up the confusion about Nr.2 lads. I confused it with 5000. Nonetheless adding all 3 together makes a hopeful image of the future. If the Destroyer(Saviour) can fix the sun then by the end of the Nuclear winter the remnants of Humanity/Dr.Bright can activate the Yellowstone Reset and humanity will come back to rule the universe once more.
It appears as though the supposed 'Destroyer' was sent as a preservation unit. That's certainly an interesting way to take 2399, I'm eagerly waiting to see where you take this next.
Ironically the only thing that could save the world at that moment would be something similiar to the Operation Dark Storm from the Matrix. (Description in the replies)
SPOILER ALERT: For those who don't know the Operation Dark Storm was mentioned in the prequel Animatrix series when humanity started losing the war against the machines (before the creation of the Matrix). Humans decided to send a lot of nanobots in the air to block the Sun which was used as power source for the machines, but then the plan went wrong and the darkness encircled whole Earth.
@@MatijaCG I think in the SCP universe there was an event where nukes were used to nuke yellow stone (I think) causing ash to cover the sky and block out the sun, so yeah they've already done something similar
One of the things I love about the 'When Day Breaks' scenario, is that so many SCP's that are villain-adjacent (meaning villains, but not abjectly evil), end up being heroes.
Considering Jupiter is usually named as Earth's Protector, or Big Brother, it's so sweet to see that from maybe the perspective of an unaware person, Jupiter sent it's help to aid Earth
Goddammit son, 2399 was already my fav scp and i theorized in your video 6 years ago that the wording made it seem like the target was not planet 3 but would be in range once arriving to planet 3. The fact that you made this "canon" fills me with satisfaction of what i expected from this scp's story. Hall of fame for this one.

imagine spending decades repairing yourself while your target launches nuclear warheads at you every month. Youve been collecting materials and powering up to destroy an entire planet. Then finally after years you have reached combat capacity and are ready to launch your major assault. Then just as you fire up the anti gravity generators and warm up the weapons the goddamn sun destroys the planet first.
I just had an idea, you guys know about the coffee machine that pours out whatever you ask of it? Just make a "immunity to sun's anomalous effects" drink.

SCP-2399 speaking like a Mass Effect Elcor; describing its emotions and how it speaks to avoid confusion. But damn, quite a interesting twist that the would've been destroyer of the world would revise its stratagem in such a manner. And to think it only took 3 humans to fix an anomalous warship of alien construct. This was an interesting SCP to explore with When Day Breaks; the French-speaking lady who called the sun her brother would've certainly been surprised by such a development.
From what it said, it seems 2399 was always meant to STOP When Day Breaks from happening. It doesn't seem like its purpose was ever to destroy Earth, but rather the preservation of our solar system.
SCP-2399 used again, and in such a meaningful, powerful way, bringing true hope. The Malfunctioning Destroyer is my favorite SCP, this story is like a blessing to me. May we see more of its story unfold.
I just love this story! We have the classic "when day breaks" timeline, but from the perspective of off-world survivors making an unlikely alliance in order to potentially save what is left of Earth. I liked the writing of SCP-2399 that it never meant to harm us, and that the creators of 2399 somehow knew what was going to happen. Interestingly enough, SCP-2399 says itself that it has "never seen a star become this", which means it either was dispatched on its first mission, and/or it didn't have all the information of its mission that the higher ups knew, similar to the foundation and their agents having levels of clearance. Letting 2399 break free from Jupiter was super sweet, I applaud Dr. Lindsman's efforts. Excellent narration, visuals, and story by Dr. Cimmerian.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This was, without a doubt, one of THE ABSOLUTE BEST SCP TALES ever written. Absolutely fantastic! Thank you to Mr. Illustrated and Dr. Cimmerian, what an incredible story. It also completely revamps the Destroyer, making it an antihero instead of a villain. I love it so very much.
Theory time The entity in the scp 5000 story is responsible for the events of scp 001 when day breaks. Scp 2399 was created to prevent apotheosis from the entity by compatible lifeforms. Scp 2399 primary mission is to destroy humanity. if it fails, it’s mission becomes the destruction of the entity or the source of the "data corruption" The reason why I’m comfortable saying the entity is responsible for WDB event is that according to the original files, even a person’s soul is assimilated by the WDB event. If the sun gets you, you are part of it now, forever. The scp 5000 story is about the foundation "turning evil" because they found something in the collective unconscious of humanity. The ethics board unanimously agreed that the extermination of humanity was a better fate than whatever that entity had planned. Those separated from the entity in that story lack a "spark" they seem to lack their souls.
Given that the entity in SCP-5000 is said to be the thing behind SCP-2718, it could be that the Sun turned everyone into goop monsters in order to save them from the Entity's sadistic ploy. For being shapeless masses of flesh, people affected by WDB are rather jolly about it - probably because they know that they'll live forever in bliss instead of unspeakable suffering after death. Wouldn't that be fucked up? That the horror of being subsumed by a mass of flesh is less terrible than ceaseless pain?
The "entity" in 5000 requires intact huma emotions and sufferring Corrupted indidviduals are crazed joy filled automatons which wihtout a "mind" cannot provide for the entity The entity would be the last thing to want 001
Actually the "001" in 5000 story is way way worst. Because is not an event that will happen but an effect that is going on since humanity's birth. That its an anomalous that makes every people that "died" to suffer for eternity feeling the pain of their death + the feeling of the decomposition, going on for eternity even if the brain is destroyed whatever keeps you conscious make you dont addapt to the pain. It's way horryfing to know that everypeople that died since the beggining of humanity (that including your great grandpa and whoever...). Being the only way to stop the suffering of the affected people is to end all humanity, or to erase all the subconscious in a way that you are no longer "human" (that's why they become detached, since they are no longer in the collective unconscious), if just a single one person survive the others will still suffer. It's for me the worst cenario ever!

The ocean is an interesting idea given that irl there are parts of thr ocean depths that sunlight can’t reach and would likely be free from the 001 entities or very neer

Hold on, I just had a scary thought. What if the anomalous sunlight can cause other stars to become corrupted? Could that be what the destroyer meant by "the cascade failure of this reality"? If that's true, then depending on how much time has already passed then there's only a little over four years and likely much less before it reaches Alpha Centauri...
That's an awful thought, but no, what this is saying is that the anomalous sunlight doesn't _have_ to corrupt other stars. The light from the sun has the same effect whether it's been traveling for 8 and a third minutes, 4 years, a billion years: any inhabited planet in the universe will be effected eventually.
@@IdranI don’t think that’s accurate. It’s not like the rays from the sun will be directly hitting any planets outside of the system. It’ll just appear as red for a time.

1. I love everything about this addition to When Day Breaks. 2. I just realized that the Scarlet King has probably lost a lot of servants because of this event. He would probably hate this star because apparently despite the wailing and amalgamated souls they feel nothing but escatasy which The Scarlet King hates and the few people left on Earth that are incredibly afraid are definitely not worth the trade off of most of the human race on this planet feeling nothing but misplaced joy.
“Crashing into a moon and left defenseless against the gravity well of a planet named after the youngest son of an all powerful being… fitting” Man that is such a badass line.
I was actually grinning when 2399 managed to perform its secondary function. I really, really hope this is building up to a climax in the Mr. Illustrated WDB saga.
I forgot all the details of when I originally saw 2399, but I believe it was only ever implications, and the foundation naturally perceives any anomalies as potential threats, which isn't the case in this story. Expect the worst, pray to 343 for the best.
Now that i think abt it. Wdb 2399 and the iron giant are similar -both are misunderstood by humans -both were helped by humans -Both are trying to save humans -Both are robots

You honestly have me on the edge of my seat with this 001 story. I love how every story somehow ties in with another story. I can't wait to see how this all ends!
I will say, that for all it's potential and power, SCP 2399 never had revealed it's directive outside of what little is known. All that is known is that it was something that it came from far away and that it had a purpose. Weather it was to destroy or preserve earth was never made clear, which certainly could of gone either way. I will say that I do like this....though I would wonder what that would mean for "The Bismark."
@@bigpigeon2384 Yep, it was a biological starship iirc with the purpose of scouting. It encountered the destroyer while examining Jupiter and was fired upon before seeking refuge on Earth during WW2. The rest is history, flesh bit scooped out and plugged into the hull of the Bismarck to run the propellors and filled with other fun anomalies before being sent to Davy Jones' locker by a pissed off Royal Navy

Very interesting concept that 2399's entire purpose was to prevent day breaking to begin with. What I never really understood with 2399 was how the hell something that advanced could fumble to a navigational error and smack into IO to begin with.

I LOVE THIS TAKE SO MUCH! The idea of SCP-2399 being a force of good that was sent to stop SCP-001 is so much better than it seeking to destroy the earth.
I find this a very interesting idea like the SCP foundation had been shooting themselves in the foot and didn't even realize it till it was too late as most life on the planet became corrupted. Plus, I find this depressing with how the voice acting was and the background music. Another masterpiece for the world.
This was by far my favorite SCP story when it comes to WDB because: (i) it goes well beyond the simplicity of everyone being flesh, (ii) it turns SCO-2399 into the hero that it meant to be, (iii) Opens up the possibility of stories about advanced civilization build SCP-2399, (iv) and whoever this advanced civilization combating against, who is trying to corrupt "data" (life forms) in stars, who are they? I am really curious about them. I would love to see stories about the civilization that built SCP-2399 (I refer to as Protectors), its (and humans') enemy (I refer to as Corrupters), and entities like Scarlet-King and Devaurors, who seem to be a match to them! Very excited about this storyline honestly, please make more! :)

Scp 2399 be like: Oh I can't escape jupiter because I am scared of falling to jupiter and getting crushed by its pressure. Also Scp 2399: Lets go into the sun with 25x the pressure of jupiter. Makes sense after all.
The reason it couldn't escape Jupiter was because it was heavily damaged. While in it's complete state, it's sole purpose is to counter the corruption in the sun, so it likely could do something.
This is the first video I've seen on your channel and I loved it! I usually just listen to The Volgun or The Exploring Series, but your dramatization has earned you a spot on my SCP content list
The idea that 2399 was sent to Stop "When Day Breaks" in the first place is an alarmingly unique one. Humanity caused its' own downfall, not out of panic, but out of caution.
One thing that just occurred to me is that this would imply that there is -nothing- anomalyous about SCP 2399, it is simply an AI controlled spacecraft. Therefore the sun isn't affecting it. I thought otherwise with the first few images, it seemed to show red flesh dripping on it but that must just be heat and coloration on machinery.
I just hope that this spaceship can handle the anomalies outside, afterall, some anomalies maintaing part of their power even after corruption, for what it appers on the Deer vs The Guardian episode. Lets just hope that this Ship is able to bring hope to survivors and build save heavens that no flesh can penetrate.
What if the corruption of the Sun has to do with the Scarlet King or an adjacent reality-corrupting SCP entity? The Destroyer might find some type of orb of influence having to do with said corrupting SCP and have to go through an ordeal to get rid of it.
The sun makes all its victims have constant euphoria and basically makes em blissfully unaware of their current situation Scarlet King wants nothing more than humanity to burn so I doubt it’s responsible

Was very excited to see this as this was one of my long time awaited SCP crossovers. Best part in my opinion is how this doesn't really detract from 2399's file. After all, it's still horrifying to think that this broken sun is capable of being a threat to such an immense civilization in the past & something they have encountered no less. Needless to say, it raises a lot more questions & implications. If Sol is not the first star to corrupt in the universe, then there is likely already multiple waves of corruption spreading across the cosmos. Like a false vacuum collapse, you would never see it coming.

This. This series right here is why When Day Breaks is my favorite 001 Proposal. Not only is it terrifying that something like this happens, but it also, as demonstrated through this series, completely opens the door to a fascinating premise, especially with the context of every other SCP in extistence. How would they be effected by this? Would some ally with Humans or retain their destructive nature? It's fascinating, and I love it.
Unfortunately the actual "canon"(as in, in the article) When Day Breaks is a lot less interesting. All Anomalies just lose their anomalous properties instantly on contact with the sun.

The malfunctioning destroyer will always be one of my favorite scps, the way it was presented in the orignal file.
I know, drawing connections to the real world- erm, Jupiter's spot, having a super advanced machine slowly repair itself out of a gravitational stalemate, it's all super cool.
Honestly the drawings of Jupiter and Io were breathtaking, you've improved alot ever since the first WDB.
(Random ideas for two WDB tales:(1)A tale about the eggs of SCP-1682(Either them hatching or it being the reason for WDB)
(2)A tale about a Janitor that works at site 19 and now has to deal with fuck all everything
Honestly because scp 179 was talking with something she referred to as her “Brother” meaning that the confrontation between 179 and 1682 in the wdb 179 vid was what the civilization that sent 2399 was trying to prevent all along if you really think about it.

If the Destroyer(Saviour) can fix the sun then by the end of the Nuclear winter the remnants of Humanity/Dr.Bright can activate the Yellowstone Reset and humanity will come back to rule the universe once more.

For those who don't know the Operation Dark Storm was mentioned in the prequel Animatrix series when humanity started losing the war against the machines (before the creation of the Matrix). Humans decided to send a lot of nanobots in the air to block the Sun which was used as power source for the machines, but then the plan went wrong and the darkness encircled whole Earth.

One of the things I love about the 'When Day Breaks' scenario, is that so many SCP's that are villain-adjacent (meaning villains, but not abjectly evil), end up being heroes.
Considering Jupiter is usually named as Earth's Protector, or Big Brother, it's so sweet to see that from maybe the perspective of an unaware person, Jupiter sent it's help to aid Earth
Goddammit son, 2399 was already my fav scp and i theorized in your video 6 years ago that the wording made it seem like the target was not planet 3 but would be in range once arriving to planet 3. The fact that you made this "canon" fills me with satisfaction of what i expected from this scp's story. Hall of fame for this one.

SCP-2399 speaking like a Mass Effect Elcor; describing its emotions and how it speaks to avoid confusion. But damn, quite a interesting twist that the would've been destroyer of the world would revise its stratagem in such a manner. And to think it only took 3 humans to fix an anomalous warship of alien construct. This was an interesting SCP to explore with When Day Breaks; the French-speaking lady who called the sun her brother would've certainly been surprised by such a development.
From what it said, it seems 2399 was always meant to STOP When Day Breaks from happening. It doesn't seem like its purpose was ever to destroy Earth, but rather the preservation of our solar system.

SCP-2399 used again, and in such a meaningful, powerful way, bringing true hope. The Malfunctioning Destroyer is my favorite SCP, this story is like a blessing to me. May we see more of its story unfold.
I just love this story! We have the classic "when day breaks" timeline, but from the perspective of off-world survivors making an unlikely alliance in order to potentially save what is left of Earth. I liked the writing of SCP-2399 that it never meant to harm us, and that the creators of 2399 somehow knew what was going to happen. Interestingly enough, SCP-2399 says itself that it has "never seen a star become this", which means it either was dispatched on its first mission, and/or it didn't have all the information of its mission that the higher ups knew, similar to the foundation and their agents having levels of clearance. Letting 2399 break free from Jupiter was super sweet, I applaud Dr. Lindsman's efforts. Excellent narration, visuals, and story by Dr. Cimmerian.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? This was, without a doubt, one of THE ABSOLUTE BEST SCP TALES ever written. Absolutely fantastic! Thank you to Mr. Illustrated and Dr. Cimmerian, what an incredible story. Theory time
The entity in the scp 5000 story is responsible for the events of scp 001 when day breaks. Scp 2399 was created to prevent apotheosis from the entity by compatible lifeforms.
Scp 2399 primary mission is to destroy humanity. if it fails, it’s mission becomes the destruction of the entity or the source of the "data corruption"
The reason why I’m comfortable saying the entity is responsible for WDB event is that according to the original files, even a person’s soul is assimilated by the WDB event. If the sun gets you, you are part of it now, forever.
The scp 5000 story is about the foundation "turning evil" because they found something in the collective unconscious of humanity. The ethics board unanimously agreed that the extermination of humanity was a better fate than whatever that entity had planned. Those separated from the entity in that story lack a "spark" they seem to lack their souls.
Given that the entity in SCP-5000 is said to be the thing behind SCP-2718, it could be that the Sun turned everyone into goop monsters in order to save them from the Entity's sadistic ploy. For being shapeless masses of flesh, people affected by WDB are rather jolly about it - probably because they know that they'll live forever in bliss instead of unspeakable suffering after death.
Wouldn't that be fucked up? That the horror of being subsumed by a mass of flesh is less terrible than ceaseless pain?
The "entity" in 5000 requires intact huma emotions and sufferring

Actually the "001" in 5000 story is way way worst. Because is not an event that will happen but an effect that is going on since humanity's birth. That its an anomalous that makes every people that "died" to suffer for eternity feeling the pain of their death + the feeling of the decomposition, going on for eternity even if the brain is destroyed whatever keeps you conscious make you dont addapt to the pain. It's way horryfing to know that everypeople that died since the beggining of humanity (that including your great grandpa and whoever...). Being the only way to stop the suffering of the affected people is to end all humanity, or to erase all the subconscious in a way that you are no longer "human" (that's why they become detached, since they are no longer in the collective unconscious), if just a single one person survive the others will still suffer. It's for me the worst cenario ever!

Hold on, I just had a scary thought. What if the anomalous sunlight can cause other stars to become corrupted? Could that be what the destroyer meant by "the cascade failure of this reality"? If that's true, then depending on how much time has already passed then there's only a little over four years and likely much less before it reaches Alpha Centauri...

That's an awful thought, but no, what this is saying is that the anomalous sunlight doesn't _have_ to corrupt other stars. The light from the sun has the same effect whether it's been traveling for 8 and a third minutes, 4 years, a billion years: any inhabited planet in the universe will be effected eventually.

He would probably hate this star because apparently despite the wailing and amalgamated souls they feel nothing but escatasy which The Scarlet King hates and the few people left on Earth that are incredibly afraid are definitely not worth the trade off of most of the human race on this planet feeling nothing but misplaced joy.

I will say, that for all it's potential and power, SCP 2399 never had revealed it's directive outside of what little is known. All that is known is that it was something that it came from far away and that it had a purpose. Weather it was to destroy or preserve earth was never made clear, which certainly could of gone either way. I will say that I do like this....though I would wonder what that would mean for "The Bismark."

@@bigpigeon2384 Yep, it was a biological starship iirc with the purpose of scouting. It encountered the destroyer while examining Jupiter and was fired upon before seeking refuge on Earth during WW2. The rest is history, flesh bit scooped out and plugged into the hull of the Bismarck to run the propellors and filled with other fun anomalies before being sent to Davy Jones' locker by a pissed off Royal Navy

Very interesting concept that 2399's entire purpose was to prevent day breaking to begin with. What I never really understood with 2399 was how the hell something that advanced could fumble to a navigational error and smack into IO to begin with.
Apparently it's creators had figure out all the planets and moons in the solar system expect IO

I LOVE THIS TAKE SO MUCH! The idea of SCP-2399 being a force of good that was sent to stop SCP-001 is so much better than it seeking to destroy the earth.
I find this a very interesting idea like the SCP foundation had been shooting themselves in the foot and didn't even realize it till it was too late as most life on the planet became corrupted.
Plus, I find this depressing with how the voice acting was and the background music.

This was by far my favorite SCP story when it comes to WDB because: (i) it goes well beyond the simplicity of everyone being flesh, (ii) it turns SCO-2399 into the hero that it meant to be, (iii) Opens up the possibility of stories about advanced civilization build SCP-2399, (iv) and whoever this advanced civilization combating against, who is trying to corrupt "data" (life forms) in stars, who are they? I am really curious about them.
I would love to see stories about the civilization that built SCP-2399 (I refer to as Protectors), its (and humans') enemy (I refer to as Corrupters), and entities like Scarlet-King and Devaurors, who seem to be a match to them! Very excited about this storyline honestly, please make more! :)

The reason it couldn't escape Jupiter was because it was heavily damaged. While in it's complete state, it's sole purpose is to counter the corruption in the sun, so it likely could do something.
It did state that it has repaired its shielding and that pressure was no longer an issue

The idea that 2399 was sent to Stop "When Day Breaks" in the first place is an alarmingly unique one. Humanity caused its' own downfall, not out of panic, but out of caution.
Dude the quality here is insane, seriously comparing this to your early videos you have come a long way
One thing that just occurred to me is that this would imply that there is -nothing- anomalyous about SCP 2399, it is simply an AI controlled spacecraft. Therefore the sun isn't affecting it. I thought otherwise with the first few images, it seemed to show red flesh dripping on it but that must just be heat and coloration on machinery.

What if the corruption of the Sun has to do with the Scarlet King or an adjacent reality-corrupting SCP entity?
The Destroyer might find some type of orb of influence having to do with said corrupting SCP and have to go through an ordeal to get rid of it.
The sun makes all its victims have constant euphoria and basically makes em blissfully unaware of their current situation
Scarlet King wants nothing more than humanity to burn so I doubt it’s responsible
I wonder what will happen first:
1. Bright and Simmerian activating the button and resetting the timeline
2. The Unlondon people launching nuclear winter

Was very excited to see this as this was one of my long time awaited SCP crossovers. Best part in my opinion is how this doesn't really detract from 2399's file. After all, it's still horrifying to think that this broken sun is capable of being a threat to such an immense civilization in the past & something they have encountered no less.
Needless to say, it raises a lot more questions & implications. If Sol is not the first star to corrupt in the universe, then there is likely already multiple waves of corruption spreading across the cosmos. Like a false vacuum collapse, you would never see it coming.
