i literally found one of these quarters on the carpet of my Friends friends house, i picked it up and asked if i could have it because i like to collect old coins and she said go ahead, its crazy that old coins like these are just passed around as normal spending money or left on a carpet.

I bought the 1976 uncirculated coin set back in 1976. I'm glad that I did. While I know that these sets were sold in large numbers, I figured that I'd see the day where interest in these coins would begin. I've also got a large stash of the business strike Bi-centennial quarters that we collected when they were new, it looks like I've got a lot of checking to do.
Thanks for the INFO, Couch, I didn't think that the copper-nickel clad "S" quarters were minted for circulation, is that what you're implying? That proof quarter that you found in circulation was probably stolen from a collector by someone desperate for money not knowing exactly what he had. Once that proof gets handled it can't be regarded as a proof any longer, but as a circulated coin. Regardless, it was a nice find.

I got a bicentennial quarter today with an obvious planchet defect that causes a small pin hole in the 6 on the obverse and the A on the reverse.
I luckily found a 1976 s silver proof in pretty good condition. I haven't sent it to NGC or to PCGS to get it graded yet, but the quarter looks like it is in mint state condition. I got the quarter because I asked my sister if i could have a look at her quarter, which she was going to use for the vending machine, I looked at it and it looked like a silver one, so I ran a couple of tests (tissue test, sound test, and looked at it from the sides) and I was right, it was made of 40% silver. I had a lot of luck that day.

I have a strike through error 1776-1976 quarter. Unfortunately it isn't an S, but imo it's still good considering the current condition it's in. I got my hands on this between mid 2017 to the start of 2018 after a cashier gave me some change back over at my local drug store.
It has 3 very noticable rings on the left, right, and bottom of the back side of the coin. However, on the front side, there are two "dents" from where the rings are on the back. The bottom ring never formed a dent the front side for some reason. The 3rd dent was essentially an additional ring but wasn't that deep into the quarter. Needless to say, it's aesthetically pleasing to me whenever I rub my thumb across the front of the quarter
I didn't know how else to describe the quarter but I am able tweet out a picture of it once my account gets unsuspended in 4 days lmao

You won't believe what I found in the coinstar return tray at the grocery store. I usually check as I walk by and today I found a dime and a penny, a 1943 wheat. Really cool, wish it was copper obviously.
Its still worth a lot of money bro!!!!! It's super rare and worth around at least 65,000-80,000depending on it's condition, or it could be worthless try to sell it to a coin collector that really wants it

I have a proof bi-centennial set that has been in the original case since 1976. A quarter, Kennedy half and the Ike dollar, all in super condition. I wonder what they would be worth.
I have that set as well. I've asked could maybe they be silver but haven't been able to find out. and of course ya can't see cos the plastic case is sealed. actually I have 2 sts. wouldnt it be cool if they were silver..but I'm not readt to crack the case open to find out yet..what about you??

I found a 1776-1976 D Quarter just wondering I see in other mint mark's the D is open in the middle but the one I have it's filled in does that make a difference

I have a 1976 D CUD. Obliterates the 1976 on the Obverse and the S from States and A and half of M on the Reverse were not imprinted or blown out. Maybe some blue green PVC blemishes on the Obverse. Afraid to take it out of the stapled holder. Thoughts?

I’m very new at looking for defects in coins. I got a cheap microscope I have hooked to my laptop. I’ve got a large stack of 1976 quarters. I found one that has a serrated marks scrape marks on the RTY of liberty. I took a couple pictures from the scope. Can I send it to you, for some advice?

Its 85% copper ya know they dont make them like that anymore with all that copper

I just found that quarter in my change purse
Was going thru my old room at mom's house and found a shoe box full of rolls of Bicentennial Quarters I had collected as a kid in 1976. Took some to a pawn shop and they offered me 24 cents each for them.
I have a 1976 bicentennial proof set with the S mint Mark. The Jefferson quarter has a weird s on it it appears as if there is a line don’t think it’s doubling though

Doubling means the stamp hit the coin twice at the mint. There are people that like to collect "error" coins & this is a popular one. Usually you can see it at the numbers & lettering. A jeweler's loupe helps a lot.

Hey, I am not the original poster. If you go to 1min 10secs, you will see a picture of the double lettering. Look at the border of the each letter... do you see the ridge or double hammered markings around each letter? That is what he is referring to. Hope that helps and stay blessed.

I have a quarter 1976 no mint markwith the face side perfect, plain on the backside. Almost smooth around the edges as well and very thin does not look to be manipulated in any way. How could this have happened? I am new to this. I will more than willingly send a picture of it.

I just found a1776-1976 D quarter almost perfect on the Ground in front of my vehicle at wal-Mart 😁 I'm in a wheelchair so it was difficult to pick up I was amazed at the quality and vintage of this near perfect quarter. Hope I can sell it I can use some money 😁
