I went back to last year and watched your video for the Marantz 510 and the 3800 pre amp. Both are beasts. Was Simon able to repair the pre amp and find the balance mechanism?

Watts dont matter buddy ! Its the amperage! about to have an overview on this subject , i have owned $300.00US 100-watt reciever new and i have owned a $1200.00US 70watt Integrated amp new and the Integrated is much louder and scales much bigger because of amperage ! Don't get caught up on watts it means nothing (quality )of the power supply is what matters , dont get caught up on power ratings because their is no set standard on testing power ! The M-510 is up to 8k in the US !
Jup! Though, watts are importent non the less! But there are limits to when it matters. Try driving 4ohm tower speakers with 88db sensitivity on 40 watts... hahahaha. Some speakers just need power but if an amp has arround the 100 watts and is good designed it is nice and can drive pretty much anything.. I would pick a 70 a 80 watts class A amp over a 1200 watt pro class d amp any day of the week!
@@vintagestereo The last time u looked online about a year ago they wanted 8k yes it was recapped , They say the M510 can rival 20k amps thats kind of crazy but the M510 is beautiful my friend 😆
@@vintagestereo to be fair it kinda makes sense. The new stuff that is made is pretty bad unless you go towards that 5 to 10k. A friend was looking for a new amp. Everything he tried locally was worse then his vintage denon integrated, former top model of the line. He tried everything. His new amp is the newest top of the line from denon that can only be bought in Japan! We in Europe have a lot of chose and I still prefer vintage. Imagine how it is over there! The second hand market is not as evolved. They didn't care as much for high end audio back in the day so all the high end stuff is rare and because of the shit they squeeze out of the factory's the demand is really high. Result? Prices that are astronomical

The Speakers by Volti Audio or Klipsh Khorn.... would be what is needed to determine sound of good/better/best electronics. The statements by those below, only reveal their lack of experience with High Efficiency Horn speakers done right. Low efficiency non-horn speakers ( paper cone) are high distortion sound reproduction devices. That said, after 5 years of travel, auditioning audio systems that cost well over $300,000 etc etc.. The BA-F1 and CA-f1 into Volti Audio Speakers/ Khorn enclosed folded horn base, has yet to be matched in sound quality. In other words, my system sounds amazing.

Reviewing of a Sansui amp with that a crappy onkyo as a preamp? You are amplifing what that Onkyo is producing. So your stuck in the crappy onkyo. Blasphemy, you need a good preamp for testing.

Sorry Andrew maar je kennis is nul zeker qua topologie . Je lijkt me een aardige gast maar a lot to learn. Wat speakers betreft is het puur smaak en daar valt wel over te twisten. Je enthousiasme is leuk . Dat dan weer wel. Ik hoorde je wat zeggen over de bandbreedte van een ampje . Zegt nul over de bass respons. Zou je wel eens willen spreken mits je daar echt voor open staat.

My power amp has no volume control and speaker switches... Just on/off and input switch (bal/non-bal).

also, with regard to the sound you heard from it... If it has not been gone through by a pro, it WILL NOT sound its best. Needs new Caps etc.

A proper comparison of a power amp would be to test the 2 units with the same pre amp. This is biased already !!!!
