Vegeta is my favourite character. He is so complex and compelling to study. When Vegeta says “I think I finally understand you” he was talking about Goku and how he sacrificed himself during the Cell Saga. Remember, it made him depressed that he couldn’t understand how Goku a super saiyan can fight and be stronger, not for glory or conquest or pride but to protect his loved ones. And up to this point, he was still seeing Goku in his mind. He couldn’t understand it. Now, he finally understood it and he is at peace. He also said “you made me proud my son” that is the highest compliment he can give. His pride is his purpose, his very being. And he felt Goku took that away from him by being stronger and invalidating everything he believed in. But through his son, he found a new sense of pride. He grew up under Freeza and knew nothing but tyranny. And his entire race was wiped out. And the only source of meaning he had was being the Prince of all Saiyans and his pride. And The prince of all Saiyans have finally understood love. The love he was deprived of all his life. And he found peace, his internal conflict resolved, his identity crisis resolved and now, he was ready to willingly sacrifice himself for everything he loved.
