There is absolutely nothing about this episode that I DON’T love. The pacing, the dialogue between Vegeta and Piccolo, Piccolo realizing what Vegeta is about to do (the silent looks he gave him), the moment between Vegeta and Trunks, the animation, the feeling of noble hopelessness of self-sacrifice, seeing that Vegeta realizes it’s the only play he can make. It’s such poignant character growth. One of the most powerful episodes of Dragon Ball Z, easily. Also, to answer a question, the technique is later revealed to be called Final Explosion. Technically, all of the characters are capable of doing it, but it is a move you will almost certainly die from, as you effectively channel all of your Ki externally, burning out your physical form as your Ki literally explodes like a nuke.
Its cool but makes no sense. At the beginning of dragonball z he destroys a planet with his finger(on his way to earth) without effort and now many times stronger he needs to kill himself for a nuke explosion.
Fun fact: This episode has the highest IMDb rating of all time in Dragon Ball Z history at 9.2, achieving a higher rating than Goku's SSJ transformation episode which was a 9.1.
@@jayhosh8126 That's a myth and it was never ever proven. Not a single Toriyama interview, not a single Daizenshuu, and not a single alternative, official, media source concedes this information. Toriyama was NEVER one to listen to fan uproar and he just did what he did.

This episode is my top favorite of all time! I’m 29 years old. Fun fact; at 9:55, I have Majin Vegeta sacrifice hugging Kid Trunks tattoo on my arm through shoulder. I watched it a million times and it always makes me cry.
this scene always brings a tear to my eye. one of the coldest warriors in DBZ showing his most vulnerable side. not since the namekian saga when Vegeta literally cried/pleaded for Goku to destroy Frieza had we seen him like this. and then the damn narrator basically writing a last statement on the Prince's behalf! another peak episode in Vegeta's arc and for DBZ in general!
The Namekians are highly skilled in Magic and immune to most spells or magic attacks. That is why Piccolo was the only character who could attack Babidi head on. Only high magic users can attack Babidi
When Piccolo told Vegeta about him not keeping his body after he dies, he was saying that because Vegeta was a ruthless killer all his life . Only caring for his own desries throughout his life, made it to where he wouldnt be able to keep his body in otherworld or be in heaven . Hes basically going to hell .
Re-watching the series with them, I realized the Ginyu Force, Frieza, Cell, and basically all the villains kept their bodies in the afterworld. I felt so duped once I realized this lol But yeah, he was definitely going to hell. I just thought it was funny that Kyle summed up Vegeta going to hell was because he killed the people at the tournament. Dude lived his life as a mercenary!
The thing that I say moreso about any other dbz character is that he's SO MUCH of a character. It isn't that he's the coolest bestest guy ever or anything. But Vegeta fans always seem to see where things are going for their guy way earlier than other people. His personality isn't super complex, that's the brilliance of it. He's bold but you can generally predict what he's about it do. Not to mention the ki barrage and thumb pose memes. Between these two dark omens any informed dbz nerd would know neither of those two things get you onto the success W train.
Just to clarify Vegeta hasn't held Trunks since he was a baby, meaning he's held Trunks before, but once Trunks became a kid he didn't show that kind of affection anymore
A great glow could be seen in the distance, where the figure of a great warrior had disappeared, his name was Vegeta, the prince of the Saiyans... he was extremely proud.
16:02 THE FUCKING SOUND TRACK ON THIS POWERING UP SCENE IS FUCKING AMAZING ENCAPSULATED THE MOMENT SO GOOD. “Even for you kakarot” vegeta is that fucking guy yo I can’t express it enough bro
yeah bro there's something about the theme while the attack is on the screen that's just so metal in concept If I go out doing something cool enough worthy of a soundtrack like that, I'm doing it right
3:43 I love this moment. Vegeta made a lot of dumb decisions that day. But after getting his clock cleaned by a monster he set loose, he opened his eyes to the future generation of super saiyans. In his head, I imagine he thought, "...these two boys are the inheritance of our warrior race. I must do whatever it takes to ensure their survival." And in that moment, he made the decision.
Vegeta did say, during the tournament, that the first thing he's gonna do is punch Kakarot in the gut. And Goten does look like Goku so he gets the gut punch.
Every time I see one of these big episodes I feel the need to give a whole speech ab how much I love this show it’s awesome. There’s no way that someone can enjoy something more and more every time they see it yk?
its a bit awkward when your with the homies and you bust out cryin lmao, but they kept goin "damn" and "fuck fuck" like they felt it regardless lol i liked it
I’m sure if we all watched this individually we would have an emotional roller coaster going on for sure! 😂 But, I can’t speak for the other 3 but I got teary eyed when the narrator said “a proud saiyan prince” at the end Fr😢 - Kyle
All the pain and destruction Vegeta caused throughout his lifetime, he finally realizes .. ..he was wrong...even after picolo told him what it was.....vegeta smiled and said.."so be it' 💯
There are to versions of the exploding attack where you blow yourself up or you don't when you blow yourself up if more powerful piccolo and Vegeta can use this attack. Piccolo use it in the original dragon Ball and Vegeta use it against the z fighters during the Saiyan saga but he was too weak it happened right before gohan turned into the great ape. Also chiaotzu use it against Nappa.
If there is one thing I like to take away from this episode is when Vegeta says "I think I finally understand you." I like to think he is talking to Goku about his willingness and ready to sacrifice everything for those he cares about. I.E Cell
I love how Trunks gets a fairly painless knockout, but Kakarot's second son, who looks just like Kakarot, gets a punch to the gut. Haha the rivalry is still real 😂
When I saw this episode as a kid when it was aired on toonami and also on vhs along time ago I couldn't stop crying when vegeta died that I will never going to see him anymore. 😢 😭💔

There's something so much more profound about Vegeta's sacrifice than Goku's. When Goku does it, he dies with a smile knowing that everything's gonna be okay. When it happens to Vegeta, it's an atonement.

That is the first time I have watched a reaction to this episode where the reactors didn't understand about the sacrifice. Like, how they were talking throughout the whole episode would indicate Vegeta was about to explode himself. I am surprised that you guys didn't figure it out before the end.
The moment I saw their thumbnail while searching up dbz reactions, I knew this channel was going to be exactly what I expected. And of course, I got irritated af while watching the first & last video of the 4 of them. Guy on extreme right is especially annoying.
For me the only real sad part is the fact he felt any motivation at all to ask if he'll be going the same place Goku would And knowing it's definitely a No in the closest way possible to just empirical truth-- Moving forward anyway despite that because it's what he had to do? This moment will never miss these feels

One of the best episodes in DBZ hands down, the move Vegeta used is called Final Explosion
He used all life energy he had, including his body for that extra energy to kill himself
its just like chiaotzu when he blew himself up against nappa if you seen the sayain saga you have seen it before this was just a much bigger blast
He sacrificed himself similar to what chiaotzu did against nappa waaaayyy back
Vegeta concentrated all his life energy into a single point until it swelled up and burst
"Will i see that clown in the afterlife?"
"I aint gonna lie chief, you goin to hell" 😂😂

He's probably too prideful for that.

In Saiyan Saga, Krillin scream Vegeta's name and about to kill him... and now..... Krillin scream Vegeta's name again... but different..
he basically turned his life force into energy, and turned into a bomb.

"Goku is alive."

The Buu saga is very underated.
