I love to see a dermatologist who does a lengthier skincare routine as some derms will be like oh you just need sunscreen and yours done but I like to use all the toners, essence, and serums before my sunscreen

Very informative, steps are clear and I love the fact that some of the things you experience right now with your skin are normal and very relatable. I personally have hormonal acne as well so the idea that even a dermatologist says it's normal makes me feel comfortable with my skin. You have earned a well-deserved subscription!🥰

You are a gem for sharing your extensive experience and knowledge of skincare. I'm so thankful for your extremely helpful videos and rare authenticity. On a side note, my skin despises glycerin. Most products have it as a main ingredient. (Even the expensive skincare has it even though it's a cheap ingredient)Glycerin causes my skin to be sticky, look dehydrated, and wrinkly. After I first apply a product with glycerin, it looks dewy and hydrated. Unfortunately, a few hours later, my skin looks 10 years older 👎 I avoid it at all costs. If it's far down on the ingredients then it's ok

Question: how does retinol fit into this kind of routine? Is there anything we should NOT be layering with retinol (or other forms of vitamin A)?
Question 2: what are your best recommendations for applying (reapplying) sunscreen AFTER you have put on makeup for the day?

  • @CapeCodBelle

I always enjoy your helpful videos. My dermatologist tells me to cleanse, moisturize and use sunscreen, that's it. I have dry, sensitive, rosacea-prone skin. You are such a beautiful person and I love your soothing voice! Thank you for wanting to help people with their skin, I have learnt so much from you 😍 One thing I was pleasently surprised by was the fact that you used ascorbic acid and peptides together in the same rutine! I have read that you should not do that because the ascorbic acid will break down the bonds. Can you explain how these two work together? I have been afraid of using them at the same time, and I didn't want to use a vitamin C alternative so this is good news for me!

I tried the travel-sized cleanser from Cetaphil last summer, with the light blue cap. It wasn't the foaming one, though. I loved it, and thought it was comparable to the Cerave hydrating cleanser, but without a smell. The Cerave one doesn't leave me feeling stripped but I just couldn't get past the smell of that product. I need to get my hands on the big bottle of the Cetaphil!

New fan here and I’ve been binge watching your very helpful videos the last few days! Thanks for sharing.
Question: you mentioned in your older videos that eye cream isn’t necessary or that it was a marketing strategy, I’m wondering if that has charged since you included that in your routine in this video? Wondering if I should start using eye cream as well…
Question 2: do you wear sunscreen even if you don’t go out? I’ve always been hesitant in putting on sunscreen because it feels sticky and feels like it is clogging my pores. Is it true that some sunscreen could clog pores?

^Would luv if you did a spf vid of your fav mineral soda that are dewy and that work under makeup. Finding a mineral spf is so hard especially one that works under makeup and doesn’t pill. I don’t get much irritation for tret but it has turned my face dry in terms that when I wear makeup it can look patchy. Sometimes I want to give up on tret in my 20s but I know it’s beneficial in the long run and usually I take breaks from it in the summer time. But I miss when I could wear any foundation/tint in the past and it looked great

for hyaluronic serums or products that contain hyaluronic acid since it best works on damp skin, do you recommend spraying the skin with water or hydrating mist first? if so how would you do that if you applied vitamin c first? would you just need to wait 10-15 for the vitamin c to absorb and then you could dampen the skin? I feel like in esthetics school and later in my career I've gotten so many mixed answers for how to layer stuff correctly and I want to make sure I give my pt's the best/right answer :)

I love your videos. Question: I just watched two that seem to have conflicting advice. One of your videos says that sunscreen comes after everything else - last layer before you walk out the door and reapply every two hours. But this video seems to say sunscreen goes on after the other actives but before putting on makeup. It’s the main question I always have. Which goes on first - makeup or sunscreen. And after I’ve already got makeup on then how do I reapply sunscreen later?

AND another derm says separate vit C from exfoliants. She recommends vit C in am and exfoliant at night bevause the SA changes your PH. So I'm seeing a lot of things here that directly conflict with what I thought was a concensus about vit C and salicylic acid.

Thank you Dr. Sam!!! I did not know I can use BHA with vitamin C!!! Now I try to combine in one routine. Question, where in this routine would you add Snail Mucin Essence by Cosrx?? It’s consistency is not really watery or oily and I cannot figure out where to put it. If I use Tretinoin in the evening would I layer cosrx under or over it???

The Paula's Choice Calm cleanser does not make my Rosacea skin red. In fact, it removes the redness. Amazing.

Hi Dr. Sam, I’ve been using medik8 peptides for a while now after watching this video, and I am loving them!! I’ve been using them at night before I use my tretinoin prescription. I have a question is it okay to use twice a day morning and night? Also, the vitamin C that I use in the morning is a thicker creamier consistency than the skinceuticals. in my morning routine, would it be OK to apply the peptide serum first since it is thinner than my vit C? Thank you!! Love all your advice!!

Perfect timing, i am going to see a derm for the first time in years! 🤞 i hope it goes well and not just "you have hormonal acne so theres nothing you can do besides get on hormonal BC or a medication" 🙄

I think if you’re looking for advice outside of using medication to treat acne, then seeing a western-trained derm may not be your best bet. It’s not to say there aren’t other interventions that may be helpful, but understanding what each type of training equips healthcare professionals to address (and how) is important so that you’re not disappointed by your visit.

Thanks for the video! I’ve been trying skinceuticals products and ended with their tinted sunscreen after my short regimen, but it was balling/piling up despite washing my face and using toner… any recommendations?

Good morning.. Thank you so much for sharing..🤗
I am 61 years old and of course a sunbather when I was younger. I just started a few years ago watching TH-cam videos in what to use for the face. Sometimes I feel like I just do a huge overkill..
    Any thoughts?
A.M. serums I use: timeless skin care 20% vitamin C ferulic acid vitamin E, The ordinary lactic acid 5%, B5 hydration serum, and coenzyme Q 10.
P.M. serums I use: The ordinary buffet copper peptide 1%, Needle-less, Matrixyl Synthe’ 6, timeless hyaluronic acid and then my prescription Tretinoin cream.
I do put moisturizer on and sunscreen as well and have some devices that I use.
No irritation on my skin, but it all does add up money and timewise..
Value your opinion and thank you for spreading a little sunshine our way.
