    An oldschool paintjob, i like it very much!!

      Thank you Ron, models on TH-cam have become all about airbrushing. Trouble with that is most home builders don’t have one

      @@Johnbuildsiconic doing it oldschool................is an art and it is our duty to keep it alive and you showed it is possible. i have an airbrush but i avoid using it.

    You have so much patience, I'm an 'as little as is needed' and 'straight from the factory' kind of guy. Looking great, cand wait to see it finished.

    Came for the Yamoto - and found this little gem. Binged all but the Last two Yamoto's and found your works very satisfying to watch...I just might have to subscribe 😉

      I John, may I ask did you consider a aftermarket wooden deck for this build, if not then could be a next time build because it makes an interesting detailed difference. Regards Dave Porter UK

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave, yes I seen the aftermarket decks and I thing I may use one in the future. But at the minute I’m having to build my models on a shoe string budget

    Very good work. Looks like you paint dark color 1st then lightly brush over lighter color? Especially on the funnel to achieve that streaky effect. Or did you use thinner to remove paint? I can't tell

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Bobby yes I used a lighter colour over the darker to highlight the darker shadows

    What did you do with the funnel, did you paint it then remove the paint leaving a weathered appearance?

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I painted it first in dark sea blue, then the top coat of grey was dry brushed to add shadows, and a two tone effect

    What do you use as a wash for the decks for weathering?

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steven the deck wash is acrylic burnt umber watered down 50/50

      Thanks John, I appreciate it. John should I use water or acrylic thinner?

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steven. Acrylic thinner is good. I just use water atm because there’s no smell

    • @stevenwheaton874
      @stevenwheaton874 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how specific you can be but, is that burnt umber tamiya or vallejo?

    • @Johnbuildsiconic
      @Johnbuildsiconic  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Steven, no the burnt umber I used is from a uk arts range. It’s come out like a paste.like a oil paint, which I like. There also a dark brown wash from tamiya that’s good. Just at the minute, I’m having to build on a shoe string budget. So I just use up what I’ve already got.
