    Interesting video, thanks. Once you open up your NAS to the outside world, it becomes much more vulnerable to malicious attacks. It would be good to produce a video on how to make the NAS as secure as possible.

      What you say doesn't make much sense. That is, you are partly right, but you don't even have to open this to the public, it is fine to use it locally to program, execute PHP codes, play videos in IPTV applications... Only if you opened it to the public would it become more vulnerable, but equally, if you enter your public IP in the browser, you will probably find your router configuration panel. An experienced hacker could also access your router if they know how to do it and from there, your NAS and your computer. Come on, there's nothing that can't be done whether your NAS has a public website or not. Not to mention that what makes web attacks easier are bugs in the code.

    • @grahamf695
      @grahamf695 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@marsupisupilamithanks for your comment. I think the implication of what you are saying is that the NAS could be vulnerable either way. In that case, surely NAS or network security is even more important?

    • @marsupisupilami
      @marsupisupilami 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@grahamf695 Well, actually, the process that I was telling you about is something strange that happens. More than anything because hackers prefer to focus on obtaining information in another way (it is easier to install a Trojan and more profitable to attack an important website). NAS have the necessary security and routers, although less so, have security. It is true that if you open your website to the public, especially if it has vulnerabilities in the code, your network will be more vulnerable. But like I say, if someone wanted to hack your network, they will. Which will probably never happen. It is best not to open these types of sites to the public, as most would do with Xampp. It helps you program and run codes on your local network. I myself have an app that I run locally.

    The website's DNS reference (A Record or the CNAME record) should point to your QNAP's public facing IP/DNS record.

      I would love to know this too! I have even pointed an A record at my QNAP and still cannot get it to work...although, I am pretty sure that is routing because it does work locally when hitting the IP of the NAS.

      You can use MariaDB, which is very like MySQL, this is in Control Panel->Applications->MariaDB.

    So, I have this almost set up, but I've ran into an issues:
    - I've set my domain to forward to my routers IP. The domain I've purchased matches my domain that I've set up my virtual site with, but I'm still getting routed to the root web server instead of the virtual one. Web browser is also not showing the domain name I have the forwarding happening from, but I would guess that's because I'm forwarding from root.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Forwarding the domain is just a redirect, you are only accessing the domain when reaching your ISP, when your ISP forwards it to the NAS it is no longer looking at the domain so the Web Server virtual host will not see it. You will need to update the CNAME with your ISP the IP of your Web Server, then it will not be a redirect/forward, but the host will actually be pointing to the right place.

    Hi, Thank you so much for your video..I'm a novice and i'm looking to buy a Qnap NAS server to host my website... Does this support any type of website?, as i'm thinking of buying a template from the web so that i can host it?, would i need to install any other plug ins or add on? i one that i'm looking at buying is a "PHP" one.. Thank you for all of your help. Thank's in advance.

      PHP sites will be fine, you may need to add in MariaDB if it has an SQL database in it as well as the phpMyAdmin application to configure the linkages for the site.

      Your web browser will normally look for a default file called Index.htm/html/php... make sure you didn't name it something different. If you did name it something different then you can type your URL with a /name-of-file.html instead.

    Except when it doesn't work, seems to me there's so much arrogance in these kind off videos.
    Or just ignorant IT/Developers, easy for them, extremely difficult for others.
    They are just really bad at explaining stuff.
    If you do not know what port forwarding is you have a hard time, also, it depends so much on the hardware.
    ISP's can also deliver crap shit modems/routers so again this can be a problem.
    Pointing your domain is also not as easy as it seems.
    Therefor, a big fat thumb down.

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Please note that we are only hosting the website and recognising the domain in the QNAP itself. I cannot fix the need to forward ports or make that easier for you, also I cannot fix how domains are controlled, this is all external to us. I have to be as generic as possible as each domain host is different and all routers do port forwarding in a different way.
