    Just for clarification, if I were to connect my account and download the entirety of my photo library locally, would I need to make a separate copy of that folder (one that would not be connected to the MARS sync job) to avoid losing those photos of I decided to clear my photos from the native account on Google? Or does MARS strictly download (and not live sync delete) the photos regardless of future action?

    As always Craig great overview…
    Can the MARS app, can provide a real sync meaning that can it provide for example a real time removal of any file from the Google photo cloud , once the file is being stored locally at the NAS unit ?

    Super great! This is a great way to secure my photos.
    Having this operational, I would like to see if this could also be a method to implement the GROSSLY NEGLECTRED duplication finder option. Google Photos is suppose to defend it self against uploads of near identical photos (like only with a different name) but it's not doing a really good job there, which means I waste a lot of my quota on dupes. If I run a dupe finder on the local backup, is there any chance I could have the deletion propagate back to the cloud instance?

      Not as it currently is, but I will feed that suggestion back to the product management for you.

      @@QNAPUK much appreciated. The major issue with Google Photos is the level of duplication. I have been using camera upload in Dropbox and synced that to Google photos but Google photo upload shrinks the picture, which means I have duplicates. Sometimes the very same picture in the same size, and sometimes in different sizes. If I can run an undupe in the backup and sync back that change, I would likely save 25% of my Google storage

    Great video thank you! Question: Do the downloaded files include the metadata (location, time etc.)?

    Hi. Why the MARS backup reduces images size? When inspecting the sizes of my photos after MARS backup I noticed they are smaller than original. I made a test:
    1) I shot a test photo and downloaded it directly to computer. The size of it in Windows folder was 2686 kb
    2) I packed the photo up to Google Photos with "Original quality" setting. Then I downloaded it back to computer with Google Photos "Download" function. The size of it in Windows folder was same as original 2686 kb. The metadata remained also the same.
    3) I backed the photo up from Google photos to Qnap with MARS. The size of it in Windows folder was only 1543 kb! The metadata was practically the same but the GPS location was missing
    Why such size and location data loss?

    Thanks for the video. Can you explain:
    1) how it looks like it keeps versioned snapshots and recommendations for how to maintain those? Suggestion to make a backup option to limit the number of versioned snapshots.
    2) Is the Restore process pretty straight forward, or are there some non-obvious tricks?

    Can you sync specific albums on my Samsung onto the QNAP at all? And can I send OneDrive as well?

    This is great! I feel like my question is similar to other comments here - if you were to delete something on Google photos, will it be deleted from the NAS drive too?

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No they will stay on the NAS, it is a backup rather than a sync.

    The info screen that comes up after install shows a container station module but you didn't touch on it. Is it real and when is it coming?

    Does MARS only backup pictures from Google Photos? It seemed to skip all my videos.

      Here are the limitations of the Google API that we use to interact with the service.
      A Google Photos service in MARS connects with the Google Photos API to perform backup and restore jobs. However, the Google Photos API has several limitations:
      Only one Google Photos service can be created per Google account.
      Videos:
      MARS may not be able to access videos immediately after uploading them to Google Photos. The backup job may fail, or some files may be skipped. In these cases, wait for a period of time and try the backup job again.
      Videos higher than 1080p and 30FPS will be backed up in 1080p and 30 FPS.
      Images:
      Google Photos may alter the pixel format or metadata when MARS retrieves the images. These alterations may change the final file size of the backup.
      Images with the YUV444 color model will be converted to the YUV420 color model. Images with the YUV422 or RGB24 color models will not be converted.
      Location data, including GPS coordinate information, may be removed from certain images

    I want to backup photos from my QNAP to Google Photos. Is that possible?

    • @QNAPUK
      @QNAPUK  ปีที่แล้ว

      As far as I'm aware, the only option is to backup to Google Drive, not directly to the photos portion. You would probably have to request a modification in this with Google directly, we cannot control what they allow the API to have access to unfortunately.
