The way I genuinely choked when you said you haven't read any Sherlock Holmes! I'm so excited you are giving them a try, but you're right, there are less clues than Agatha Christie gives. However, I prefer SH overall.
Oh Sherlock Holmes is one of my fav characters, I was obsessed growing up. The stories vary, some are shorter, some are full stories. I would recommend Hound of the Baskervilles, it even had a Wishbone TV adaptation, and is a standalone novel.
That's my favorite Sherlock Holmes! And I loved Wishbone! I still have a few from childhood, including Romeo and Juliet with a flip book animation of wishbone catching a rose in his mouth
@@kelleyeasterling It is so good! I had this ancient paperback my folks found for me and I read it all the time. And oh my gosh that's so cool! I just found a Wishbone Halloween book at my local library's book sale and am saving it for October
Sherlock Holmes is 52 short stories and four novels. The short stories are good if you're not sure and want to try it out! If you're ready to commit to a novel, I'd recommend starting with Hound of the Baskervilles.
OMG GAVIN ! I absolutely ADORE Les Mis ! So it actually has 365 chapters, so there's a challenge associated with it where you read a chapter a day. it's early enough in the year where you could 100% catch up for that 👀
I love Watership Down - absolutely my favorite coming-of-age/hero's journey story ❤ I reread it maybe 2023 or 2024 and... it might make you cry. But it's worth it 😊
I still remember when you saw my bookshelves and my Smallville books in your roast video and was SHOCKED Smallville books existed. 😂Can’t wait for the vlog!! ❤
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Watership Down. I read it as a teen and then again in my early 30’s. So fascinating my different perspective and realizations after reading at 30 something. Now I’m in my 50’s and it’s time to read again. So looking forward to your thoughts after you spend time in the Down.
I love the three body problem, but be prepared the characters are cold and distant. Its more about the concepts and philosophy since its hard scifi. I wouldn't recommend it to someone starting the genre, but I hope you have fun when you get to it!
I agree. It’s definitely more an ideas book than a narrative about a character’s arc. I think the show makes some creative choices to adapt the story and bring more out in the character stories.
Yeah it’s kinda like reading a textbook. Great ideas, but if you want fiction with your science fiction it’s kinda disappointing. I don’t regret reading it, I gave it a 3 I think (5 for the science and ideas, 1 for the writing) but I haven’t continued with the series. Maybe eventually. I’d recommend Adrian Tchaikovsky if you want cool sci fi that isn’t written terribly 😂
@@GavinReadsItAllif you want to know more about the story behind it getting published, the true crime channel Rotten Mango covered it on their channel.
I'm excited to see what you think about 'Thursday Murder Club'... I wasn't crazy about the first one but liked the characters... I've heard from others who felt the same but loved the rest of the series, so I will probably give the second a try!
This is ambitious! I love the diversity of the items selected. I am not a huge Romance Reader, but you've sold me on the Northanger Abbey reimagining! LOL -- Also, I am so excited to see what you think of It. Of course 😂 Good luck! I am looking forward to watching you cross these all off your list! ✅️
Awwwww I’m loving your son Ash ❤super adorable 🥰 I also like the books you showed; I plan on reading some of the same ones you have shown as well. ❤thanks for sharing and I hope Ash enjoys his food 😊
That is an interesting variety. I’m planning a reread of Watership Down this year as it is a favorite from childhood. Also cannot recommend Thursday Murder series enough. It is special. Good luck on all your reading endeavors this year. Wishing you many five stars.
As usual your shelves are so stunning they have to be paid actors. Anatomy: A Love Story is just a fun gothic read so hopefully you like that one! Northranger is also AWESOME! I had an e-ARC of it and I want to get a physical copy. It was so much fun.
I had a fun time with the Grady Hendrix book 😊 absolutely loved Anatomy and thought it was a great hommage to Frankenstein 🤩 and can't wait for you to travel the cosmere 👀
Sherlock Holmes was one of my gateway drugs into the mystery genre! It's also one of my favorite classics of all time. There are 4 novels and 56 short stories in total written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Can't wait to see what you think of them. Also... So glad you're reading The Hunger Games too. 😂 I abandoned the first book years ago because of personal stuff going on at the time and I REALLY need to finally get these off my tbr. 😊 Edit to say that if you try any of the tv shows- Jeremy Brett is considered the quintessential Classic Sherlock Holmes. (Although I grew up with Basil Rathbone and he's a close second.) The BBC Sherlock was a fun modern update, but I didn't agree with making Sherlock into a sociopath just to make him edgy. (Love Benedict Cumberbatch though.)
If you read one book it needs to be The Betrayal of Thomas True, this is a genre bending book that covers so many genres from historical fiction to romance and mystery. If this book doesn’t make you cry I will be absolutely shook. It is heavy in lgbt rep.
Gav the edition of IT that you have is the cut version to the film. To read the full version it is one that has a sunset cover with a child running across it and comes in at over 1300 pages. The one you have is about 1060 pages and has had that scene cut out. If you look on the back I think it states it is the film edition my lovely xx

So excited for you to read this list. This year I am really tackling Sanderson/Hobb and things from 2022 in my TBR really want to concise my TBR. Here for the journey
Sherlock Homes: There are 4 novels and the rest are short stories. They are less solvable than Agatha Christie but I still love them. Le Mis: I was on a listserv a few years ago that sent you a chapter a day--365 chapters---but life got busy and I never finished it. I really liked what I read though.
I've not caught up with your latest videos so no idea if you've read it already but the Watership Down audiobook narrated by Peter Capaldi is absolutely fantastic!!
I also said I was going to read the Cosmere this year starting with a reread of The Final Empire! Excited to have your video(s) as inspiration along the way!

I also read the abridged version of The Count of Monte Cristo, which is another favorite classic of mine. The original is also over 1,000 pages. I tried to read the longer version later but it's the same story, but WAY slower so I gave up 😂

Gavin you honestly inspired a video idea that is similar to this video. I want to do a 25 manga series I want to read/finish this year. Maybe you could do that on the manga channel?
I'm excited to see I'm not the only person whose reading goals are reading the number of books that aligns with the year we live in. In the past couple of years, I added the addendum that the books had to be a book with Queer themes/characters or by a Queer author.
