Note: one of my suspects, Alexander, is a teenager. I believe he’s portrayed as a child in adaptations of the book, but in the novel he’s older so that’s why I had him as a suspect ❤️
I also thought it was Alexander bc of the way he kept talking to Lucy about her being a stepmom and then she was the only one who wasn’t poisoned at dinner!
"Miss Marple has buggered off somewhere" and "Miss Marple needs to start carrying her weight, this is her mystery" is what you will think in every Marple novel. Poirot is much more hands-on in his stories, which is ironic since Christie hated Poirot.
Also, I love how all conclusions Marple makes are from all the petty gossip she participated in all her life. That and the many maids she had at her service and all their ~horrendous habits.
@@renata374 she wanted to stop writing the Poirot novels after awhile, but her publishers wouldn't let her because his series was too successful and lucrative. Sometimes it seems she has resentment or animosity towards him in the way he's describes in later books
Gavin should do a sleepover video where we all can solve a mystery together of some sort…. Not that we can’t do it with these videos though…. I don’t know. Would be fun. 😜❤️
So I just discovered this channel and let me tell you: I am enthralled. The creativity. The dedication to the bit. The coexistence of seriousness and absolute unhingement. What an absolute 10/10 banger of a video.
Omg this comment has 1) made my life and 2) I want to use it to market my channel because you get the unhingement and it doesn’t put you off 😭 thank you!
1. Watched this three times 2. I will be re-creating this because its fucking dope 3. I was here for the person, vibes, and editing and forgot to think about the mystery lol 4. to reinterate "you never cease to amaze me."
14 minutes in, haven't even left the station, Gavins ordering more prosecco, and I can't help but think 'imagine if Gavin applies for some corporate job one day down the line, and his employer stumbles across videos like this whilst doing the background check' 🤣🤣🤣 Oh Gavin, your videos are pure gold 🥇
I'm obsessed with this idea. For a next video you can stay a night in a small cottage somewhere and cosplay as a 85 year old woman and try to solve another one of Miss Marple's mysteries
This was so fun! I think this was a particularly difficult mystery to guess the culprit; I think the reason no one knew that Dr Qumiper's wife is missing, is because he was married to her as a young man, and had separated from her, so as far as anyone in the village knew, he was unmarried. My favorite Agatha Christie is A Murder is Announced and it's one where you are given the clues and can actually solve the crime!
This was my absolute favorite of your vlogs so far. I loved it! As a Christy reader I always think it’s interesting to reread one of her books. Her ability to slip in clues without the reader noticing is quite remarkable. I do love 4:50 from Paddington and all the clues are there but I absolutely agree that it needed more Marple. Miss Marple is always such a joy. If you want another Marple vlog, stay at a seaside hotel and read The Body in the Library. It’s a first rate mystery with Marple throughout.
Miss Marple and Poirot are very different style of books. Some prefer one, some prefer other. Please read Agatha Christie's Crooked House. It's one of her most surprising books. I love it
I can’t decide which video I liked more, this one or the spooky books at a cabin. Such great content and your comments are so funny.

This is my favorite video you've ever done! I love books, I love trains, and I have a very specific interest in books that are set on trains or have to do with trains, so this video was made for me 😍
American here. I did a two week study abroad trip to Scotland (based in Edinburgh) over 5 years ago. Briefly seeing Waverly Station brought back so many memories. Commuter trains do not exist in my part of the country anymore, so I experienced my first train ride ever then (Edinburgh to St. Andrews), and I loved it. Can't wait to watch the rest of the video!
Loved this! Sleeper trains are so cool. I had the chance to ride one once in Canada when I was a kid and I’d love to do it again. What a great idea to read a murder mystery while you ride!
I've never commented on one of your videos before (always watching and giving thumbs up) but this time I had to say that I am in love with this video and all the effort you put into this! The concept is great and the vlog is even better! ♥
I read this book at the beginning of August so I already knew who the killer was. It was really fun to see you trying to figure it out, because I didn't think he had anything to do with it either, until Christie just does what she always does and reveals the big plottwist.
This is truly the greatest concept for a reading vlog ever. In saying that, I haven't read this book so I'm going to pause here and quickly hit up my library!
I loved this vlog!!!! The not the only train entering a tunnel joke 🤣! I haven’t read this one, but seen the adaptation several times and love it…they add more to those adaptations, though, and the clothes and settings are always so lush.
Absolutely loved this, what a great idea and was so much fun to watch. It looked like you enjoyed it too, after the Prosecco fixed the stress of getting to the sleeper train, love that 🥂🍾Thanks for always making such fun and unique content, I really look forward to your videos and I can’t tell you how many times watching them has given my mood a lift. Thank you for all the hard work and energy you put into each video 😊
So glad I've finally caught up and watched this! Amazing idea Gav and although you didn't manage to solve it, it's been such a good vlog😄 I never would have guessed this if I hadn't watched the adaptation (fun fact, Lucy is played by Amanda Holden)
You are the king of booktube this was amazing iconic outstanding I loved it so much 💜💜💜 thank you SO much for creating such unique and outstanding content! And thank you for sharing yourself with the world it is truly a gift
I think the coolest part of this is getting to see a different cultural side of Britain. I'm from Canada and passenger trains aren't as big here on the west coast.
They are rarer now on the East Coast too! When I was young Via Rail went 6 days a week in Atlantic Canada, how it's just 2 to 3. Still lots of trains between Toronto and Montreal though!
Same here - train travel is pretty slim on the ground here on the west coast of the United States. When I was in the UK, one of my favorite things was being able to get most anywhere by train.
This was so fun to watch! Thank you! I hope you do something similar again, but maybe during the day, so your health doesn't suffer. Really great video
I frequently sit down ready to catch up on a tv series or a movie, then do a quick check on youtube to see what's new and see you have a new post and watch that instead! Very entertaining.
loved this vlog idea! So fun. Have to say that Miss Marple is often just a side character in her books and not the acting protagonist. She is very often just the person to give some hinds nobody understands and fucks off. Love her though. there are some storys were she investigates herself. And in the Magareth Rutherwood Movies of Miss Marple (the old black and white ones) she is more like a hands on investigating old lady. :)
Knowing the murderer before starting (I saw the adaptation), you would be able to guess who did it. The clues are there, but not obvious unless you know... You really have to pay attention! Granted I don't usually guess her endings, but I have been listening to them and I don't think that is the way to solve her mysteries. I definitely think I miss some things. I would suggest reading Dead Man's Folly (a Poirot). That one I had watched the adaptation, but couldn't remember and I paid attention. Still didn't get it. It was a good reveal. The Miss Marple ones, she really just does a lot of outward observing, even more than Poirot. You really have to pay attention to the likenesses she gives people when she meets them. Those are very telling.
This is such a cool idea! I still haven’t read any Agatha Christie books, but I am excited for the upcoming Marple anthology that comes out soon, featuring new stories by modern authors like Leigh Bardugo, Alyssa Cole, and Ruth Ware, among others. It’s a really intriguing mix of voices from different genres, so I’m curious what they bring to the table.
Great vlog as usual! 😃 I've been on sleeper trains a lot, since I live in the north of Sweden which for me means a ~12 hour train ride to Stockholm, ~16h to Gothenburg. A great way to travel, and such a cosy way to read a book!
I died watching the aftermath of accidentally pressing that button! Fear unlocked hahaha I'd be a mess trying to explain I'd probably order the most random thing 😆
This vlog, from concept to execution, is utter brilliance. Loved the music building up to the reveal and the look of bafflement on your face! I am not a fan of Miss Marple's reveals. I feel like we’re on a sleepover and I can’t go to sleep until we figure out this mystery.
If I’d had you with me in that tiny sleeper train room, I’m sure we’d have solved the mystery but most importantly got drunk
