You’re so right though about Middle of the Night being a “filler” book and how even the author acknowledged how boring and vanilla it is at the end lmao 😂 ridiculous! It still makes me mad when I think about it
OMG, "I put on hemorrhoid cream that was more thrilling" has to be the ultimate put down for a book. I applaud you Gavin for creating an image that was definitely more accurate than seeping and dripping. What an excellent video. Can't wait for more of you in 2025.
I actually really liked some of the books on this list (The Familiar, Academy for Liars, and A Study in Drowning), but I’m not shocked to see them here. But I love the vanilla coffee analogy for Emily Henry’s books! I’ve read People We Meet on Vacation and Funny Story, and I finished both feeling severely underwhelmed by the characters, especially the love interests.
I loved every single minute of this video. I love me a petty Gavin 🤪 I also feel very validated with some of your worst books of the year... some might be on mine as well 👀
One thing that the Princess Diaries brought to you, in a good way, was my curiosity and the subscription to the channel 😂 (I tell this without being presumptuous of course, it was the actual honesty, fun and casualty that made me follow your channel) Keep going strong! And 2025 will be filled with better books...I hope😅
I had heard so much about Emily Henry books and I read Book Lovers- Worst romance I have read recently. Like you, I skipped to the end even though I truly did not care. Never again.
Zodiac is terrible but for all the right reasons you have to get about 3/4 of the way through book one and then the writers actually get their style on and things get interesting. It’s kind of like the vampire diaries a train wreck you can’t get away from.
When I was a 14 year old girl, I didn't think of myself as a child. I felt like a woman, and was only interested in older guys, or even adult adults. The Girl's magazines in the year 2000 were wild. They literally told us, that older guys have more experience in bed and that's why we should ditch Boys our age. xD Times were different back then, I guess.
I totally agree. I like Emily Henry's writing style, but I tend to not care for her characters. However, if you haven't tried it yet, I would recommend trying Funny Story. It was the only one I truly enjoyed, both the story and the characters. She's definitely not a spice romance writer, more like a fluff romance writer. So, if that's not your jam, I wouldn't read her books. Also, I have Zodiak Academy, and I am terrified to read it after your review earlier in the month 😳😂 Noooo I just bought A Study in Drowning with the book looking sprayed edges 😭
As a writer and soon to be published author, it is my worst nightmare to end up on one of these videos... Although, you are hilarious so maybe roasting my book would be worth it 😂
Hilarious as always, Gavin. Oh, and I literally have Academy of Liars teed up to start reading today. Oh well, at least it's just a library book (got both the ebook and audio on libby). Maybe I'll just return that sucker before I even start and save myself some time.
Here's my picks Taming 7 by chloe Walsh Memnoch the devil by Anne rice book 5 in the vampire chronicles A love song for ricki wilde by tia Williams Sex lies and sensibility by nikki Payne it's a modern take on sense and sensibility Flying solo by linda Holmes It happened one summer by tessa bailey Some desperate glory by Emily tesh Same time next summer by annabel Monaghan Steelstriker by marie lu
I think the biggest problem with your #1 book was that it was almost too sedate compared to his previous books, and the era and setting of the story would only appeal to those of us that lived during that time (90s suburbia in the states). However, I quite enjoyed the book and my only complaint was that it shouldn't have been a mystery.. but a general fiction book instead.
Yes yes yes about the Wicked Years books. I’ve never hated a progression of a series as much as this one and I literally read them as they were published. By the fourth it was a hate read, and once again Gregory McGuire couldn’t resolve anything!!!
I gasped out loud when A study in drowining appeared, I love that book so much 😭 that's ok though everyone has different opinions and I strongly believe that it was what I needed in that moment
I was so ready to laugh my ass off at this video! 😂 until you brought up Book Lovers… then I cried. Lmao jk I love your opinions and commentary even when I disagree!
Adam Neville's books are so disappointing. I read The Ritual a few years ago, and WOW the movie is phenomenally better. I felt like that book peed on me for good measure.
Is this the wrong time to tell you that your #1 worst book actually made me cry? I found the book to be okay (never thought I'd say this but the author needs to go back to writing women) but the end was very sappy and it gave me the feels. Definitely not a mystery/thriller book though.
I got this notification in front of my sister and I guess my face did something so she asked "ooo who's that?" "Gavin" "ooo who's Gavin?" "My gay book bae from the UK" like I'm queer and chronically online leave me and my parasocial friends alone. 😅
Yessss!!! I feel vindicated!! I also hated Book Lovers! I was so damn confused, I wondered if I’d read the same book as everyone else. I loathed how whiny the main character was, and did no one else think she was awful to her sister?! It gave me such weird vibes.
Lmaooooo I can’t believe I’m responsible for your top two worst books of the year hahaha I’m deeply sorry 😂😭🫠
You’re so right though about Middle of the Night being a “filler” book and how even the author acknowledged how boring and vanilla it is at the end lmao 😂 ridiculous! It still makes me mad when I think about it

The Emily Henry description had me cackling what a picture you painted
Hahahaha your Emily Henry Cafe story made me literally laugh out loud at work! 😂
The way you get more annoyed with every passing second is killing😂😂😂
Thank you for not holding back. Everyone should be this ruthless when talking about books they hate. Even if I like the book, I love a good rant.
“Well Shakespeare wouldn’t want to”. IM GONE-
u crack me UP 😂🎉 loved this so much
I’m here for the tea! I can’t wait to see how messy this gets
I actually really liked some of the books on this list (The Familiar, Academy for Liars, and A Study in Drowning), but I’m not shocked to see them here. But I love the vanilla coffee analogy for Emily Henry’s books! I'm an Emily Henry apologist but your read???? Painfully accurate
A friend has recommended me try one more and I just might 😂
The PTSD from books #1 and #2 😵😵😵
I am screaming about the Emily Henry breakdown. It’s so accurate 😂😂
I loved every single minute of this video. I love me a petty Gavin 🤪
I also feel very validated with some of your worst books of the year... some might be on mine as well 👀
This makes me so happy to know we continue to twin 🥰
Worst Of Videos >>> Best Of Videos
I love me a good rant and you gave some good ones here 😍
One thing that the Princess Diaries brought to you, in a good way, was my curiosity and the subscription to the channel 😂 (I tell this without being presumptuous of course, it was the actual honesty, fun and casualty that made me follow your channel)
Keep going strong! And 2025 will be filled with better books...I hope😅
so cold and i ate it up!! that book lovers description was golden, think i might unhaul it just from that
Love how passionate you rant about these books.❤
Happily sipping my tea while Gavin spills his...
Not you giving gabbys pick worst book of the year 😂
She got my top 2 worst books since she made me read Murder Road too 😭
I think your 'worst books of the year' video was how I found your channel all the way back in 2020.
Proud to say I've been watching that long haha
my problem with Middle of the Night was that it was just waste of time! he said heres your stupid book get me out of this contract asap
Exactly!!
“I’m worried about you. Get some help.” Cracked me up hahaha now THAT is a glass of wine 🍷love your energy!
You’re so cool and beautiful and dramatic for that cold open. It’s giving Mike’s Mic but with books.
I knew those were going to be your top 2 lol. I was just waiting to see which one got the #1 spot.
Haha I’m so predictable 😂
Study of Drowning and Academy of liars was on my list too. Valid reasons! Thank you for sharing
The middle of the night vlog was so funny 😅 even though I liked the book & rated it 4.5 ⭐️ watching Gavin solving it all was hilarious.
Your description of that one character being an architect is giving me George Costanza flashbacks. 😂😂
Roadwork is one of the worst King books for me.
Here for the tea 🫖
☕☕
Nice hair cut Gavin! 😊
I had heard so much about Emily Henry books and I read Book Lovers- Worst romance I have read recently. Like you, I skipped to the end even though I truly did not care. Never again.
I’m so deep in the lore of your channel, the “Who does she think she is… Florence?” line made me cackle.
Your rant about A Study in Drowning made me laugh because I felt the exact same way about that book. That main character was so annoying!!
Sassy gavin is my favourite gavin

I guess those books won’t be embossed… 😂
Haha definitely not 😂 toss toss toss
I legit had no idea that Princess Diaries was based on a book till this video
As a writer and soon to be published author, it is my worst nightmare to end up on one of these videos... Although, you are hilarious so maybe roasting my book would be worth it 😂
Not the intro 🤣🤣🤣 if you read this, it means I'm also dead... dead serious about loving your channel! 😏💚
Great video Gavin.😂😂👏👏
Hilarious as always, Gavin. Oh, and I literally have Academy of Liars teed up to start reading today. Oh well, at least it's just a library book (got both the ebook and audio on libby). Maybe I'll just return that sucker before I even start and save myself some time.
the way i was clenching so hard through this whole video
Love a good clench
That's how I felt about The Stand. Such a waste of time and it's over 1,000 pages
0:43 Gavin keeps it REAL 😆
Side note I love your hair cut Gavin!
Well that description of Book Lovers just got you an instant follow 😂
Oooh I hated Nothing But Blackened Teeth, and I had so been looking forward to it. I couldn't believe how bad it was.
What is that neon greenbook in the background? :D
Also loving the rants haha :P
Death of a Bookseller by Alice Slater
I love the petty ☕️😂

You tore into Emily 😭
The Emily Henry description is so accurate and that's coming from a fan, haha.
Yes yes yes about the Wicked Years books. I’ve never hated a progression of a series as much as this one and I literally read them as they were published. By the fourth it was a hate read, and once again Gregory McGuire couldn’t resolve anything!!!
So glad it's not just me who thinks that Cass, so sorry we both had to endure to the very end
Yes!!!!!! So many of my worst books were in this video. I feel seen. 👁️👁️
I agree with ur thoughts on middle of the night that book was trash 😂 and also i loved zodiac academy that series made mi sobbbbbb 😂
Middle of the Night was one of my favourite books of this year 😬. I love Riley Sager 😭
I gasped out loud when A study in drowining appeared, I love that book so much 😭 that's ok though everyone has different opinions and I strongly believe that it was what I needed in that moment
I also did not like Magnolia Parks. But Book Lovers is one of my favorites. 😂
I'm proud to say I never read any of these books 😂
Yess A Lesson in Drowning was a disappointment! I know people really love the reveal but I called it and I didn't think it was that impressive tbh
An Academy for Liars was so enjoyable and refreshing. :D I rated 4.5 star.
I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😊
Only one minute in, but already...genuis 😂
I was so ready to laugh my ass off at this video! 😂 until you brought up Book Lovers… then I cried. Lmao jk I love your opinions and commentary even when I disagree!
I think I’m not going back to Middle of the Night. I’ll watch your video about it so I know how it ends.
I can’t believe you still have cows😭
I have my reasons 👀
@ interestinggg👀👀
The Book Lovers review has me dying laughing at work 💀🤣
I had several one star reads this year and even some half star 😝 - some books just don’t deserve the hype they get
Gasp! I’m so offended 😜 I’ll be honest… I watch some of these to get ideas for books but ours usually line up lol
Although your two worst weren’t on my own worst list.. both just mid to me 😅
The only book I disagree with on his list was Book Lovers. Everything else matched up with what I thought lol
@ yeah none of these were my favorite, nothing more than a 3.5 at best (book lovers)
I was so bored with the study in drowning 😂 also haaaaated nothing but blackened teeth 😂
Glad we are all on the same page about Murder Road😅🤣
My two worst books were Lincoln in Bardo and The Old Man and The Sea. It's funny given how acclaimed both of these books are 😂
Edit: Lincoln in the Bardo*
HAHA how you described EH’s characters 💀💀 I caaaaan’t. ‘Cause it’s true…?! Oh no
"GET SOME HELP." 💀💀💀
I gave up on Riley Sager a couple of years ago. I just don't like his books. I really don't get the hype around his books
what an intro!
Has anyone else read Spectacular? (Caraval holiday novella) I loved it.
I read it this month and it was a fun little novella. I enjoyed it.
Not one man one Jar 😅😅😅😂😂😂 I'm rolling!!! 😂
Adam Neville's books are so disappointing. I read The Ritual a few years ago, and WOW the movie is phenomenally better. I felt like that book peed on me for good measure.

OMG finally someone who didn't enjoy a Study in Drowning! I just don't get the hype.
I DNFed An Academy of Liars. Ugh, it just was not for me. 😴😒
lol rip to Riley Sager 😮💨
NOT ONE MAN ONE JAR😂😂😂
A classic
Someone else who didn't like The Familiar. I feel vindicated.
I got this notification in front of my sister and I guess my face did something so she asked "ooo who's that?" "Gavin" "ooo who's Gavin?" "My gay book bae from the UK" like I'm queer and chronically online leave me and my parasocial friends alone. 😅
Laughing so hard. The best worst book video
I read so many duds this year. lol. xoxo
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
LOL, Gavin, GO OFF. hahahahahaha
🫖🫖🫖
I'm proud to say I've only read one of these 😂
That is a relief haha
I have never read Emily Henry, yet your description sounds accurate. If I want some entertainment I'll rather stare at the wall than read her book😂
❤
Hakuna Matada dude😎😎
Yessss!!! I feel vindicated!! I also hated Book Lovers! I was so damn confused, I wondered if I’d read the same book as everyone else. I loathed how whiny the main character was, and did no one else think she was awful to her sister?! It gave me such weird vibes.
