This video is a game-changer! So much helpful information packed into one clip. I personally don't like promoting anything in comments, but I simply have to share with you a book called The Gilded Nexus of Prosperity, that book changed my approach to money, the methods in that book are impressive

Don’t let the size of 11/22/63 intimidate you. It’s a master piece. I took my time with it and was highly rewarded for it

its alright. 3,5 / 5. People are way too generous with their ratings on booktube. Dunno why. If you like a book it has to be "master piece"!!!111!!!1 " or "couldn't even THINK of putting it down. SO BRILLIANT" etc. etc.
Most books that people recommend are good. But lets calm down people.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is definitely laugh out loud funny. As I’m sure a gazillion people have already mentioned, or will mention, the audiobooks are AMAZING. By far the best I’ve ever listened to. After reading the first book, I switched to the audiobooks and got frustrated....that I didn’t listen to the first book. So then I did....almost immediately after reading it and it was still fantastic.
11/22/63 is a fantastic read. Page count only matters when it’s a struggle to get thru...when you’re loving 95% of it, page count prolongs enjoyment.

Love the Book videos! If I could suggest a series for you to read, it would be the Songs of Chaos series by Michael R. Miller. This is a DRAGON fantasy series!! The main character, Holt Cook, is a servant who dreams of becoming a dragon rider even though he can't be, he discovers a dark secret. Dragons do not like weakness among their kin killing the young they deem flawed. Holt saves an egg deemed flawed and vows to protect it but what he finds out when the dragon hatches is that this dragon is blind and also possesses a new dragon magic that no one has ever seen. With Undead rising and dragon riders dying Holt has one chance to survive. He must find out this new mysterious dragon core magic that could tip the scales in his battles to come and prove to the world that a servant can be a dragon rider.
Hopefully, you look into this series cause it really is a banger of a trilogy with a new book coming out sometime this year! Again love your book videos man!!! Keep up the great videos!!! :)

Really enjoy what you're doing now. I'm sure you're getting tons of recommendations and I have several myself, but I'll limit it to one piece of advice. I would hold off on reading Abercrombie until you have a bit more fantasy in your library. Not because the books are bad, but because they are awesome. There are 10 books in "The First Law" series and they are game-changers. All written with the most beautiful immediate conversational prose I've ever read, and characters you'll live and die with. Save Abercrombie until you've chewed through a bit more of Sanderson, Martin and Gwynn. Think of Abercrombie as dessert.

Oh man, you gotta keep going with the Mistborn series. The last book in that trilogy is WILD. The entire book is an endless rollercoaster. Book two is really important for context and exposition. I really liked the politics of it tbh. Like I looooved the politics. It’s what I loved in Thrones. Add in the ENDLESS action of the third book and… chefs kiss.
Also… this will lead you perfectly into the MAIN act of Sanderson’s work: The Stormlight Archives. Woooof. Those are big daddies. 1k+ pages. But they’re so incredibly well written, you HAVE to get involved in the Cosmere man. You just gotta.

I'll give you 2 recommendations. The first is a little stand-alone called Stardust by Neil Gaiman. Its a decently short book that i really enjoyed from beginning to end. Haven't found a book that has given me a fairy tale feeling quite like this one.
The second is my favorite series, at least so far in my reading journey. Its the Greenbone saga by Fonda lee. This series blew me away. When i first started reading i only wanted to read old school fantasy with wizards and swords, but i gave this series a chance and oh my god did it open up a whole new world for me. Best characters i have read about to date.

Based off when I worked at Barnes and Noble, Scythe and Neal Shusterman is a great series and a popular Sci-fi author. Shadow of the Gods series always sat on the shelves. I think the Jade series would be an interesting choice for you as it’s a little different from what you’ve read! I’d also recommend The Fairytale by Stephen King - it’s a fantasy, a bit more “whimsical” of a plot than his horror books.

I’d recommend you dip your toes into historical fiction. Up until last year I had pretty much only read science fiction and fantasy (like you…) since I was in middle school. I discovered james Clavell through the Shogun show on Hulu, and read King Rat. I’m currently reading Tai Pan. All of clavells books are set in Asia from the perspective of westerners. It is really refreshing. Also, they’re written in 3rd person omniscient which isn’t very common anymore.

Also in the 25 books for 2025 club. Bangers only this year! I read The Fifth Season and the second book in that series but then DNF'd the third book. It took me a long time to get into because of the writing style and narrative structure but once I got into it I found it enjoyable and the ending was really good. The second book was too slow for me... The writing style is not the straightforward type of writing style you have said you typically like. It is definitely a more challenging read and I think they are the type of books that you are not supposed to understand what is going on all the time and that can be frustrating for some.. including me. BUT If you are wanting to try a romantic fantasy with multiple points of view .. The Ember in the Ashes series is my favourite. The romantic fantasy books coming out recently have not been for me because of all the smut but I read the Ember in the Ashes series as it was coming out in 2015 and it is still my favourite.

I just stumbled on your 2024 book reading synopsis and enjoyed it so much I watched this video, too. We’ve enjoyed a lot of the same books - and you’ve got some books I’ve really enjoyed on your to read list this year. So based on my deep and intricate knowledge of you that I’ve gleaned from what you’ve shared of your reading history over the past hour, I’m here to add my two cents about which series you should read next. I am reading Abercrombie’s series right now and while it isn’t really capturing my attention as much as I’d expected, my husband considers this among the best books he read last year. He ate the series up (and he’s the one who recommended Red Rising to me - which I loved).
My other vote goes to Jemisin’s series. It’s been a few years since I read that one, but I think I still consider it one of the more unique and compelling series I’ve read.
I know you aren’t asking for any new book recommendations - but I think you’d also like Circe by Madeline Miller (I think I liked that even more than Song of Achilles). And if you are looking for something *completely* different, maybe try Stiff by Mary Roach; Filth by Irvine Welsh; The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini; or maybe The Women by Kristin Hannah? Just some different stuff :)

I have a really random rec but I think it’s a good genre expansion into what you were trying to accomplish with “small things like these”. But it would be water for elephants by Sarah Gruen. Similar to your pianaese, water for elephants got me to start reading again. It’s about 400 pages but it’s SO fast paced and easily enjoyable. Without crazy spoilers It’s about this guy who’s parents die and he hops on a random train in the 1930s and it happened to be the traveling circus and the circus is pretty unethical and he has to weave this entire new life and it has some pretty good villains. Idk, not super related to the books in this video but an easy genre expanser!

It’s 5 books in total and they are chonky (around 600-800 pages) but the magic system is super creative and the action is the best I’ve ever read and this is coming from a Sanderson and Red Rising fan. You've got some really good books on there - bangers one might say ;). Loads of them are on my endless TBR, some I've already read. I absolutely agree on Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. I had such a hard time getting into the book because it felt so pretentious and I never really started warming to Sam because of it - the pretentiousness pops up time and time again. I also wasn't the biggest fan of Sadie tbh. The most frustrating character was that pseudo-academic character that kept quoting German philosophers and since I speak German, doesn't even get meanings right. But I absolutely loved Marx and as soon as he entered the chat, I was hooked. Flew through the latter half of the book within a day and recommend it to everyone!

*first law* excellent, excellent. At the same time it can be kinda depressing though, because it highlights all the negative sides of humanity.

Rec: Mother Night by Kurt Vonnegut
You take the perspective of an American Spy in WWII, but he retells his story as an old man, and the moral is beautiful. From what you've read, this rec might be coming out of left field, but it truly is an eye-opening book that anyone could enjoy

@@philgotfits The first book wraps up nicely but each book is a new level of the dungeon, so by the end of the first book you’ve only scratched the surface. I would definitely say if you don’t want to get sucked into a series stop at the first book. I got much more attached to the characters, and the bigger picture starts to unravel more in books 2&3, so I think you would be more inclined to finish the series as you continue. BUT if there’s any chance you can take on another series this year, make it this one, it’s definitely worth it. 😁

Well of Ascension is just the worst in that series. Keep going and you'll love it. I absolutely love Sanderson and I will gladly and easily say, I didn't really like Well of Ascension.
As for the 5 you're trying to choose from:
I loooove Roman/Greek mythology as well and, while I don't necessarily hate Norse mythology, it doesn't excite me whatsoever. Shadow of the Gods though was my 9th favorite book out of 51 this last year (9 doesn't sound high, but I read some BANGERS this past year). I absolutely loved it and couldn't shut up about it while reading it. I unfortunately tried to force myself into reading the sequels during times in my life that I didn't have enough time or brain capacity to handle them, so I didn't love the other two as much. Everyone else who's read them says the opposite though, so it's a confident upvote for me.
That being said though, Scythe is the absolute MUST read for you. Based on your love for Red Rising, shorter books, and sci-fi, I think this should be your priority numero uno from your 5 proposed. The first book was #7 on my list this past year. Great book and an overall good series that reads incredibly fast. Rowan and Citra are amazing characters and the new characters that get introduced along the way become favorites as well (once I got over the fact that they were taking me away from Rowan and Citra).
The First Law and The Fifth Season are heavier. I haven't read them yet, but specifically because I'm waiting to finish some heavier series I'm currently in so that I can properly enjoy another heavy series. I just can't do too many heavy series at once. It burns me out.
Green Bone Saga (Jade City): If you like anime, you'll love this.
