We'd love to know! Also, reply with what recipes you'd like us to make next :)
I love everything about this channel. Especially the simple, tried and true recipes. No trying to reinvent the wheel. He just shows us how to cook the dishes he, his family and the customers of the many restaurants her cooked at, actually eat and enjoy.
It's nice you included your dinner conversations and the stories told by your parents of past experiences. It's definitely a new way to add to the cooking experience show. You'll have these memories forever. Great job!
Hey! This is the way my dad used to make them too before he passed away 6 years ago. It's the one thing I learned how to perfect. He adds sweet corn and scallions to ours. It makes me remember him and give me comfort when I'm depressed.
Made this after a long and exhausting day to eat with some rice and it's SO comforting. The water trick was amazing, nicest 'flower' I've ever done! Your dad reminds me a lot of my late mah mah, she would teach me about cooking in cantonese. The way your dad articulates himself - the occasional humour, useful tips, always wanting to whip up something tasty for us to eat really reminds me of her. Thank you for your dedication to preserve our cuisine and dishes
Yay so grateful to hear it turned out great and the flower was beautiful. Also so happy that dad can remind you of your mah mah. We hope that with each video you watch it brings back so many happy memories of the two you together 🥰
I loved this video! Your dad is so wholesome, I loved how proud he is of his beautiful soup. It makes me miss my parent's cooking and eating dinner with them!
Awwww thank you so much Christine! He’s amazing :) We’re so touched that this brought you back to such sweet memories of your parents! Thank you for the kind words and support 🙏🙏
This channel is amazing for a number of reasons. 1) I am learning to cook Asian food without having to buy it already-processed, which cuts out a lot of the bad stuff processing adds. 2) The recipes are easy to follow, and easier than I thought they would be to make. 3) Your dad is a boss, and does things we should all strive for: Cooking wholesome food from scratch, learning an instrument, and not over-consuming. 4) Family inclusion is so wholesome. I love to see all of you enjoying your dad's cooking :)
Your dad is so talented. He cooks, he plays the flute, he’s a great teacher.... what more can he do? Thanks for sharing and preserving your dad’s recipes and insights for us. 🙏🏻 Also I noticed your dad’s style of talking is very gentle and relaxed. He’s very soothing to listen to. The way he talks (word choices) reminds me of a Cantonese version of my grandma (she spoke Taishanese). I miss my grandma so much and I don’t know if it sounds odd, but watching your dad reminds me of her. It’s almost therapeutic. Everything he said about how hard it was to have eggs and meat on the table and the ration coupons is exactly how my mom and grandma explained to me how tough life was in China. You sharing all these conversations is precious. I really wish I thought about recording all of these type of conversations. Now it’s too late for me anyway. It’s good you are preserving family history. They will be so precious to hold onto and pass onto your son. Sorry I babbled too much 😅 This video got me pretty emotional.
I just want to let you guys know that you're one of my favorite YT cooking channels right now. I like how your recipes posted online are very comprehensive and flexible. I also love how you discuss the culture and history behind each dish which shows a lot of heart and passion which cooking should have!!! I hope your channel grows bigger.
Oh wow 🙇🏻♂️🙇🏻♀️ Thank you so much @haroldareyou. We are so grateful that you found our channel and have been enjoying how deep we go into each dish. Just wrapped up our next video. Can't wait to share it with you tomorrow ❤️
As Cantonese I love hearing him speak. He is so down to earth and heartwarming. Also love the multi generational family. So lacking in today’s American culture. Thank you for sharing your Dad. He is a treasure
Love to hear Daddy Lau's stories. At times many of us face unfortunate times. It's admireable to see someone who is resouceful to make the best of it then share their stories later in life. Your dad is an amazing soul.
The videos just keep getting better! I love the addition of the personal notes throughout. Your mom holding your son is precious. You have set up the camera at the perfect angle so I feel like I’m joining the family for dinner! Thank you so much. Great things will be coming for your family.
Add garlic and ginger to this (and a bit more corn starch) and you’ve got lobster sauce, famously served with shrimp in it. One of my favorite American Chinese dishes.
Old dad always so easy going ... often says "your preference". It doesnt need to be a complicated n expensive dish to bring out the warmth in a family. God bless🥰
Hats off to the dad cooking for family!! Excellent recipe!! I will be making it for dinner tonight. Wonderful son and dad moment to cherish as a quality life lesson!!
What a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing them with us. Your dad is awesome. How I wish here in America we could value our elders. They have so much to teach. And we have so much to learn.
I tried this the other day, cooking for family. And because I didn't want to buy chicken cubes for this recipe, I ended up doing it the hard way and boiling chicken and vegetables to make chicken soup base. Definitely did not turn out as expected but, I also did not put in a lot of salt. But, it was a fantastic and refreshing soup nonetheless! Your dad's trick about adding water to the eggs was amazing! Softest egg "flower" I've ever done.
Yay that's so great to hear Avery! That's totally a legitimate way to make it - my dad usually just suggests the chicken cubes/powder for simplicity but homemade broth is great and healthier! Glad to hear it turned out soft :) Thank you so much for trying the recipe and for the love and support. Are there any recipes you want to see next?
I absolutely adore your parents!!! I miss mine so very much. Cherish your parents while they're still here and carry your father's legacy of cooking and sharing food with others. Thank you for sharing with us your father's love of cooking ♥️
I made this tonight and it was the best I ever made because finally the egg flowered perfectly! I followed Daddy Lau’s advice to add water to the egg and for the first time I finally had egg flower as beautiful and silky as a restaurant! Thank you! No matter what else you put in the soup, thickening with cornstarch and adding water to the egg is what makes the dish successful.
That’s so great to hear!!! We’re so glad the tips were helpful and that it was the best you’ve ever made! Thanks for trying our recipes :) It means a lot to our family!
@@MadeWithLau does your dad know how to make Chinese corn soup or Westlake beef soup? I don’t usually order west lake beef soup because I hate cilantro, so I’d love to make it at home!
I like Dad no arrogance at all. He said put whatever you want in the soup. Older ones are so wise. I've never seen add a little water to the eggs to make it flower nicely. Thank you!
I want a bowl of egg flower soup so badly now! I'm a new subscriber, and I think your father must be an amazing person, I've also fallen in love with your family. Whether you realize it or not, you are showing us all what family is supposed to be, and it warms my heart!

Beautiful and simply delicious. I made this with equal parts potato starch and granulated dashi. So good and didn’t need toasted sesame oil either. So generous of your dad to share. Thank you 🙏🏼 ❤
Just tried this, used beef stock cube as a substitute. Didn't expect much at first, but when I tasted it...BOOM! Wow! The flavors are fantastic. Such an amazing recipe from an excellent chef. Subscribed!
My dad's name was 鴻 was called 鴻仔 when he was little boy too. Watching your video reminds me visiting close villagers and relatives👏👍😋..Soup is so easy to make and simple. Fantastic family!

Imagine adding chicken to this and eating it on a cold winter day.
Add garlic and ginger to this (and a bit more corn starch) and you’ve got lobster sauce, famously served with shrimp in it. One of my favorite American Chinese dishes.
Or add pork floss
