I made this last night with beef broth, and planned ahead using your suggestion to add noodles (I chose udon) and a bunch of extra vegetables, like cabbage, broccoli, Chinese eggplant, and mushrooms. the meatballs were delicious! as were the rest of the veg and broth. thank you for this excellent recipe!❤

I know it's a cooking video, and the recipe looks delightful, especially for a winter dinner with a nice bowl of rice or some boiled potatoes on the side. But I can't help myself. I have to mention how beautiful Mandy's hair looks in this video. What great hair she has, and I think it looks so good parted and long like it is here - classic and beautiful for someone with straight, fine hair.

This is one of the best cookbooks I now have. Top 3 out of the hundreds of cookbooks I have. The attention to detail and the breakdown of the ingredients and tools is so appreciated. Interesting recipe. Reminds me of Italian wedding soup. We usually have the meat dish separate from soup. In fact I just made a batch of soup and steamed rice to go along with roast chicken thighs I made. I used bok choi instead of daikon solely because my spouse doesn't like daikon. Oh well. Other than that I add a splash of sesame oil for fragrance and flavor. I will be trying your method of making the soup as a complete meal. Btw, I never buy store ground meat because I must know exactly what has gone thru the grinder and I have to control the fat to meat ratio. A lot of stores cut the pork with ground chicken which is why their ground meat is pale pink and very finely ground. Incidentally we stopped going out to Asian restaurants decades ago since I found out how easy it is to do it myself and come up with a better meal. Thanks to channels such as yours my technique and repertoire has really improved. Despite being Italo/ American we primarily eat Asian because tbh we find it healthier.

I’ll be making this this week! It looks amazing. Mouthwatering. Thank you. Edit: I made it and it was fabulous! I used bok Choi instead of the radish and I added Konjac noodles. It’s very filling, tender and just perfect for a cold winter evening. So fast and easy.

Hello Mandy!!! I just bought your Carbon Steel wok and ready to buy your cookbook. I love your recipes. Love the fact that the wok comes pre-seasoned. My question is if I have to wash it first with Soapy water or just water . I am ready to cook with it!!!!!!

Yes, you should wash the wok with soapy water for the first time then you can use it as is. Just make sure you dry and oil the wok after wash on a regular base. @ I made this today. It turned out great, we really enjoyed it. I did use the cornstarch and I used my stand mixer with a paddle attachment to mix the meat for five minutes. Thanks.

I never would have thought about daikon radish as part of a soup. I always only have eaten it raw or pickled. But it sounds like a nice light soup.
I have only used daikon grated in lo bok gow, which I have made several times. Good to know there's another use for it.
This is one of the best cookbooks I now have. Top 3 out of the hundreds of cookbooks I have. The attention to detail and the breakdown of the ingredients and tools is so appreciated. So far I’ve made the chicken and mushroom congee and Hong Kong vegetable chow mein. They were so easy to prepare and absolutely delicious. Wonderful job Mandy, and thank you for Al your hard work 🎉

It's so awesome to see Mandy excited and happy. It makes the recipes come alive.
Interesting recipe. Reminds me of Italian wedding soup. We usually have the meat dish separate from soup. In fact I just made a batch of soup and steamed rice to go along with roast chicken thighs I made. I used bok choi instead of daikon solely because my spouse doesn't like daikon. Oh well. Other than that I add a splash of sesame oil for fragrance and flavor. I will be trying your method of making the soup as a complete meal. Btw, I never buy store ground meat because I must know exactly what has gone thru the grinder and I have to control the fat to meat ratio. A lot of stores cut the pork with ground chicken which is why their ground meat is pale pink and very finely ground. Incidentally we stopped going out to Asian restaurants decades ago since I found out how easy it is to do it myself and come up with a better meal. Thanks to channels such as yours my technique and repertoire has really improved. Despite being Italo/ American we primarily eat Asian because tbh we find it healthier.
Definate!y soup season for us and always looking for new things to try. I will also try using ground turkey as an alternative meat. Thank you!

Yes, you should wash the wok with soapy water for the first time then you can use it as is. Just make sure you dry and oil the wok after wash on a regular base. The oil prevents the wok from rusting and keeps it non-stick.

Mandy, another great recipe. What does the cornstarch do in the meat mixture? Can this be omitted without adverse effects? Thanks.
The cornstarch helps to bind the meat together and provide a smooth texture. You can skip it if you want.
@ I made this today. It turned out great, we really enjoyed it. I did use the cornstarch and I used my stand mixer with a paddle attachment to mix the meat for five minutes. Thanks.
