How To Do Lunges The Correct Way (Exercise for your Butt, Quads, Hamstrings)

- How to do Lunges The Correct Way. The lunge works your quadriceps muscles, gluteal muscles (Butt) and hamstring muscles. Your feet should always point forward. You want your front heel to be midway up to your knee. Then you go into your heel not your toe. Going into your toe will cause knee problems over time. The back knee should be about 1 inch off the ground on the down position. Make sure to keep your back upright the whole time. Try 3 sets of 15 reps on each, master the basic ones before moving on to the harder variations
Push Back lunge
You lunge forward then push back to start position and lunge with your opposite leg.
Walking Lunge
With every lunge you step forward, once there repeat with opposite leg. When you are halfway through your set repeat backwards using the same form and technique.
Front Foot Elevated Lunge'
Place your lead foot on an elevated surface. Lunge towards your elevated heel. Make sure your heel is firmly place on the surface. Once you hit your reps on one leg repeat on the other, make sure its the same reps on both legs.
Bulgarian Split Squat
Keep your back foot elevated while you lunge towards your front heel that is firmly place on the ground. Once you hit your reps on one leg repeat on the other, make sure its the same reps on both legs.
Jumping Lunges
Lunge forward when coming back up explosively switch to lunge leading with the opposite leg. This is a great workout to help burn fat because it jacks up your heart rate.

Jumping lunges are best out of those overall as they build good muscle and burn alot of calories very good to add in at end of a cardio session try burst as many of them as you can i like to stick to as many as i can in 5 minutes no need to go any more than that just speed them up and try beat your PB "personal best" each time.

bosu lunges with one foot on one off then up and over with same leg on repeat . also weighted lunge pickups with dumb bells dropping at the feet as you walk then walking back picking up and dropping again great for glutes

I can't get right back into standing position after having one leg in front when I do lunges.. I find myself rocking my body backwards so I can stand straight up and it hurts my knee...:')...

good demo but don't start off with really wide lunges like he did at the beginning specially if u never done them. it puts too much pressure on hip flexors. but good video.
what about pistol squats ? this is the best exsersie for storng legs.

What is the progression? I'm having trouble trying to figure out the progression. Bodyweight leg exercises are pretty easy.

yea, i wouldn't recommend any of these leg workouts if your looking for size, and i wouldn't recommend this video as a leg routine. good exercises to add in as a warm up, or u can make it part of a plyometrics routine for endurance and cutting down on your legs. good quality video though, just not enough variety.

Your knees are allowed to go 1 inch past your toes... nothing more or you'll damage your knee joint.

There's no such thing as isolated fat burning. Doing any exercise will burn calories and in turn fat will get burnt off if you do not take in as many calories as you burn throughout the day. Sure fat does tend to come off certain areas of the body faster or slower than in other areas but this is pretty much entirely down to your genetics and as long as you continue to take in less calories than your body needs all fat will eventually be burnt due to the body's need to be fuelled by something.

I think lunges are a shit exercise. I think all you really need are like one legged pistol squats and yeah.
+Fghh Fghfgh Pistol squats put a lot of strain on your knees , so in the long run they're not very effective. Bulgarian squats on the other hand are excellent.

There's no correct form of lunge. It depends on which muscle group do you want to activate the most.
