The PERFECT 5 Minute Posture Routine To Increase Your Height

  • Are there exercises we can do to grow taller? Yes! That said, you’ll only become taller in the sense that you’ll reveal your natural height. Many of us sit for most of the day. Over time our bodies will learn to become extremely efficient sitters and lock us up in a hunched over, head forward, position. This reduces our height. There is, however, a 5 minute solution that can help improve your posture, undo the “damages” of prolonged sitting, and maybe even help you grow taller. Today I’ll show you the exact posture correction exercises and how to use them to grow taller in just 5 minutes.

    First, let’s do a quick overview of the routine and the science behind how it helps you grow taller. If we take a look at the most common sitting posture, you can see how certain joints get locked up in poor positions. To improve our posture and relieve stiffness, we want to look for exercises that not only move these joints in the opposite way, but also strengthen the weakened muscles needed to keep the joints in the proper position for good. We’ll apply this concept to the three most common problem areas, and the areas that affect your height the most - the back, the shoulders, and the neck.
    Let’s start the process of helping you become taller by focusing on your back. The first exercise, thoracic rotations, is going to help improve your ability to rotate your mid-back. Next, we’re going to use the cobra pose to focus on extending your back out of its rounded position and strengthening some of your back muscles. This exercise is a great option to do so because the entire body is almost completely reversed in this stretch position when compared to a typical sitting posture. Now guys, before we move onto the shoulders, I want to emphasize that while these exercises may look easy when I do them, it took me a long time to improve my mobility to get to this point. Many of you will find them quite challenging when you actually try them, so don’t worry if your form doesn’t quite look like mine yet.
    Alright, so now that we’ve unlocked the spine, we’ll be better able to work on your stiff shoulders that are rounding you forward into a locked up position and also contributing to your forward head posture. The first of the exercises we’ll use to help you grow taller is the over-and-backs. These will focus on loosening up the shoulders.
    Now that we’ve temporarily loosened our shoulders up, we’ll be able to better target your weakened back and shoulder muscles. To do so, we’ll use what I call reverse wall angels. When done properly, you should feel this in the muscles of your mid back and shoulders. If you feel this more in your upper traps, try performing it on the floor or a on a bench instead as your mid-back muscles may not yet be strong enough to perform this upright. If on the other hand you find it easy, you can add pulses to each part of the movement and even add a bit of weight in your hands.
    Finally, we’re ready for the last piece of the puzzle, the neck. What we need to do is actually pretty simple. We just need to strengthen the deep muscles in your neck that have become weak and are failing to do its job of keeping your head in its upright position. As for the specific posture correction exercises you’ll use? Well, there’s only one. And although it may not look pretty, it’s extremely effective and can be done anywhere. It’s none other than the chin tucks. When done properly, you should feel the deep muscles under your chin working.
    Now, let’s cover how to implement them for the best results. You’re going to do each exercise for 1 minute. Within that minute, take it slow and try to do as many quality reps as you can. Quality is more important than quantity.
    Here’s how to grow taller in 5 minutes:
    BACK:
    Exercise 1: Thoracic Rotations (30s per side)
    Exercise 2: Cobra Pose (1 minute)
    SHOULDERS:
    Exercise 3: Over-And-Backs (1 minute)
    Exercise 4: Reverse Wall Angels (1 minute)
    NECK:
    Exercise 5: Chin Tucks (1 minute)
    Implement this 1-2 times a day, make an effort to get up and move more, and you’ll very quickly feel and see a difference. Don’t forget to measure your height before and after as well, and leave a comment below if you managed to gain an inch or two. If you didn’t, don’t worry about it. Embrace your height, ignore anyone who puts you down about it, and enjoy the many other benefits this routine has to offer.

      Heres a sneaky one. Go to a playground with a tall ladder. Stick your legs in and wrap the bar around the back of your knees, then hook in your feet at the top bar, you can relax and let go and go totally upside down. Hang there. Stretch it out.
      Getting off? Lul. Reach up with an arm and grab a pole, simply take your legs out...
      Done. Peace out boys

    Hey Jeremy! Wanted to thank you for this. I have been doing this routine for almost a year and genuinely went from 5’5” and a half to 5’8” by combining it with your pelvic tilt routine. People complain about their posture and height and I say use this video but most people get all skeptical and never start. Just do it

      @@vladgubskiy4437 I’m 23. I know it wasn’t a growth spurt as I didn’t get any taller pretty much after turning 16. For about the first 2 months, I did this daily, and I actually doubled the time for everything to make it a ten minute routine. After the first two months, I started doing it more like every other day but I overloaded some of the exercises with weights and varied the resistance with bands. Now, I generally do this as a warmup on any day I’m working my back, sometimes shoulders, still doubling the time. That probably gave me two inches. What got me to the full three inches of growth though truly I think was doing Jeremy’s pelvic tilt routine on top of this, which I also progressively overload. I only started doing that about three months ago and I was only doing it daily for one month. Now I just do it as a lower body warmup. Good luck, give it a try!

      @@rationaloptimist5747 bad posture, but not terrible. I had nerd neck and a slight rounding of the shoulders. So for people who are actually hunched over imagine how much height they could gain if I gained 3 inches coming from not the worst position. Beyond the height what is more valuable is that I was carrying so much pain without knowing. I move so much better now.

      how would I progressively overload this? without the use of resistance bands and weights 😭 im only 15 and i dont have weights rn (i’m 5’6 and my posture is relatively good like my head sits above my spine)

    these excersises are great . after doeing a set of all these in between work i even find it hard to lean forward in my chair , my back seems to support itself like and i dont need to lean back into the backrest .
    My neck/back doenst hurt because i have to manualy force myself to sit up straight . thats after one day of doing the exercises . cant wait for the results after a month or so .
    Great motivation to keep doing these daily .

    Definitely gonna start doing this. Been noticing my resting position is a lot more slouched lately due to sitting down a lot more than I use to. I have to study a lot more this year on top of regular things so sitting less isn't really an option. Thanks for this, definitely gonna be helpful as they have never been really bad but I've always had mild problems with my back throughout most my life, so finally doing something to fix them is definitely gonna help 😅
    I'm roughly 6'2 so I don't really need anything in terms of height, I just really need a better posture than what I currently have

    This is an exceptionally well explained video, whilst PT's I've paid over the years have to a lesser degrees trained me in some of these exercises they have never explained the "why" as well as Jeremy, he filled in a lot of gaps. I'm not keen on distance training, but really considering signing up for his app, if he was local I'd hire him in second.

    I'm 57 and a few years ago I noticed in pictures that I was starting to get the "old man hunch". So I really started to focus on my posture. Besides exercises like this I put little signs in my apartment and house that say "Straighten Up". Once you start slouching it just gets worse and it really effects your energy and outlook. People noticed right away and many comment that I look and act younger and I certainly feel that way.

    This is unrelated to the video, but I just want to thank you and show my appreciation for all the videos you've posted that have noticeably helped me during my fitness journey. Your videos are very informative and easy to understand, and the way you set up examples and how you use and reference several studies on the subject is really great and makes your information reliable and easy to research. I also just read your article on Built With Science from June 2019 about cardio's effects on muscle strength and growth gains, and in my opinion the article is very well and comprehensibly written, and was a huge help for me since I started to take aerobic training more seriously but was confused on how to incorporate it optimally into my routine.     This absolutely true! I also "grew" or reclaimed my actual height from 179 to 182... I do not think I will be able to get the 6ft... but doing these exercises regularly, in combination with the rounded back and 5 min daily stretch, helps me stay pain free on my 12h-16h on the computer a day (work, games & movies)
    Great quality content... but the almost disasterous banana scene is my favourite

    I’m very excited to try the reverse wall angels. Ive been trying to do the wall slides from your other video and they’ve been very difficult for me. I cannot keep everything against the wall. This excercise may be easier for some people but still work the same muscles as the wall slides.

    Your first video on this helped me to correct my posture effectively unlocking the pulling power of my back, but sometimes I find myself, mostly sitting, with bad posture. Maybe this will help reduce the amount of time spent daily in bad posture.

    Just want to say your videos have completely corrected my posture. Sadly I wasn’t able to keep doing the chin tucks as for some reason I had an issue with it have tension in my neck. Which then resulted in my straining the front of my neck which was extremely pailful. Luckily though once I corrected my rolled shoulders, and kept posture awareness it slowly came back to where it should be.
    I’ve used ton of your videos, with now the one I do daily is the one with the resistance band.
    I just wanted to say thanks! It’s been over a year of work daily I’ve been putting in, and routing through different videos you have just trying new things.
    But it’s been a huge life improvement for me, and I just wanted to give my gratitude. I use to get massive headaches and migraine from my neck, I’ve had 1 in 8 months now, which was when I got a new chair and was adjusting it.
    I use to get a lot of chest pains as well as pain behind my shoulder blades, all gone.
    Plus I feel more confident, and better when pushing weights.
    Really appreciate the time you put into this, and can’t thank you enough!

    These exercises are quite helpful for posture correction, also known as Yoga. Very good job on explaining how to do them and what to pay special attention to, found it very helpful even though i've been doing yoga stretches for a while already. Except during thoracic rotations you should inhale while rotating the ellbow up, not exhale.

    Im 21yo and all theese year's i haven't worked out for more than a month and I've never done something to unlock my full potential. This isn't a long list so hopefully i will stick to it and i hope i start working out and improving myself for forever. Just little steps everyday so my mind doesn't quit before my body.

    Thank you for this video. I've had RA since I was a teenager and I managed it over the years, but now in my mid 30's I've had posture issues. It haunts me for many reasons, but a big reason was my girlfriend, at the time, said to me: "Have you gotten shorter?". I remember we stood side by side and I clearly was shorter than her compared to when we first dated 2 years prior. She broke up with me a week later. I can't help but think my worsening posture was a major catalyst for this.
    I use this terrible and sad memory as motivation to work on myself and fix this posture issue. I've used credible videos on YT since November of 2021 and have noticed positive changes, but after following your video consistently for the last two weeks I have felt much better results.
    I'm going to continue this routine for another three months and I'll comment again with an update. Thank you so much, Jeremy. I really appreciate what you do and you're helping so many people with these videos.

    Holy crap Jeremy. I just did all the exercises in this video. The only one I could do half was decently was the on where you face the wall. I'm so freaking out of shape....LOL. Also thanks for the remind about us not having near the same ROM as you when we start, because I was just only slightly better than the one dude you had doing the back arching. Gotta start someplace.

    You can find all sorts of posture correction routines on TH-cam, but this is the first one that has my whole back feeling like jello. lol... I'd say every inch of my back was fully engaged in one way or another

      You won't see a height increase. When they measure you they make you stand up straight. Bad posture doesn't make you physically incapable of standing up straight, it just means you have imbalances that cause you to round your shoulders and hunch forward when you're at rest.
      No exercise is ever going to make you actually taller, it will just make you look taller because you aren't hunched over all the time.

      @@tommydashed4205 I agree with you, one cannot increase their height (in a meaning of being taller), however, they can make sure that they do not waste it. For example, if you stand at 188cm height with a curved upper back, you probably could be 191cm or a bit more with a fully extended upper back. Those "extra" cm of height were already a part of you, but you kind of "wasted" them by having a curved upper back. So with other words, it does make you have a height increase, but it's not going to make you taller or give you height that your body didn't already develop.

      @@faidont.7761 the guy's point is, bad posture only make you stand shorter because you are slouched. It's just how you stand. It doesn't mean you are completely physically unable to stand upright, or that your spine is shortened.
      Unless someone has some serious spine problems like hyper lordosis or khyphosis, he's not gonna become taller by any means. I mean this guy (who posted the video) talks like everyone who just has bad posture and stands slouched stands that way when measuring height. The doctors are gonna make you stand tall and upright and you're gonna measure as tall as you are.

    MAte many thanks, I have noticed just after 2 days of doing your exercises that my neck no longer aches, I am working hard to try to correct my kyphosis and forward head, however I’ve the years I have been told many different thing’s I will keep you updated, I was 99 kgs, just on 6 ft and I got sick, ankolosing spondylitis, amoungst other immune system issue’s, should you have a different routine that I might benefit from also, I would much appreciate it.

    This stuff is not fake and should not be considered overblown. After doing stretches and workouts. While seeing a chiropractor I ended up being 5'11" 1/2. After being 5'9" 1/2 for awhile. When I use to be 5'10" in High School.

      @@FirstnameLastname-ty1qd I don't fucking know man. What are you trying to get at? There are lots of reasons, part of the issue as well was posture and neck. With adjustments and correct posture alignment it changed proper posture allowing things to naturally get in order without pain, or push against properly being at full height.
