  • Hey everyone some things that I left out was that after doing this mod, make sure to check all your hose clamps for leaks after driving for a day or 2, also this mod Gave me 25 psi of fuel pressure at idle, and it holes steady as a rock at 17psi, at wide open throttle, and also do at own risk, it worked great for me, I would recommend this to anyone, and I’m glad there’s finally a video now about to install and what you need to do it! I hope you enjoy and I really hope it helps you or a friend!

    Good morning .. Nice Vid. I have a 99 that I have owned since 2000. Like you I was seeing a loss of pressure.on my fuel system. After changing the stock pump at the engine several times. I relocated the stock carter pump to the frame rail like you did with the holly blue. I still had lift pump failures but the failures were extended to about every 2 years. Vulcan performance out of Vancouver has a frame rail pump relocation kit . I tried the Fass but it failed in 3 months and fass left me on the side of the road for a week till they were able to get a replacement coming . I got tired of waiting so I brought a stock replacement and re plumbed a old spare stock replacement at the frame rail. If you go back to the stock pump... go to Cummins direct and buy from them much much cheaper! Nice 3500!

    I ran a separate relay to power the Holley Blue, and power the coil of the relay via stock fuel feed. Coil draw is only milliamperes, pump pressurizes off key switch now.

      After a few months of running with this wiring setup, it appears as though it's having a hard start issue. Caused by the high fuel pressure at startup So I rewired it to a switch that only is active after the engine has been started. Low pressure on startup and back to 20 psi after the engine is running. Problem solved.

    I have an 02, When I bought it the dealer at some point changed the carter for a pump in the tank. It worked but not exceptional at all, all I did is buy the OEM carter pump and put it back on the engine and left the tank pump hooked up. Essentially the same as here but easier. I have 15-18 lbs at idle and have never seen it go below 8-9 lbs hauling my 36 ft RV up hills and anywhere you want to go.

    Interested in how long this has lasted because I have always been told to keep between 15 to 20 psi of fuel pressure to the VP. Is your truck modded in any way like injectors turbo and tune? I run mine at 18 and have 120 injectors and I feel like I can bump it to 20 psi so just curious if this has lasted you a fair bit of time thanks

Completely stock . Runs great. Only regular maintenance. Just got a leak on lifterblock cover/ cam cover plate or whatever they call it. Vacuum pump also leaking. Going to fix and thought about changing some fuel related things while I have it apart. Ok great idea. Not sure if holleys are diesel fuel compatible? Also its best to use the band type clamps for long term use they don't cut into the hose and loosen with time like the ones you are using. if your going to use a filter on the inlet make it more of a screen type just to get the stuff that may lock up the pump. electric pumps push well but don't pull well at all. use a second finer filter after the pump. Also always use a relay and carry a spare.

I put a inline filter in before the Holly and everything works fine. The Holly is used as a inline booster pump not as the main pump. I did replace the intank 5 years ago it was just getting a little weak and I didn’t want to drop the tank again.

  • @chilidog73
    @chilidog73 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So can I clarify. You have the holley running to the stock pump and stock pump to engine? Then does the manual switch power both pumps or just the holley? And it just stays on all the time?

  • @xraykadiddlehopper8067
    @xraykadiddlehopper8067 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did virtually the same thing. Mounted a Holley blue on the frame just in front of the tank and left the stock carter pump in place and ran both together but I had a dedicated ignition on power source so when the key was on the Holley was on. ( noisy pump) but It makes more sense to have both run together only when the engine is running or with a bump start. Any way the Holley went south in a couple years and the stock pump can’t draw fuel thru the Holley so a emergency bypass if needed would help. It left me stuck so I crawled under and removed the bottom plate on the Holley and removed the rotor assembly so fuel would pass thru and put the plate back on.
    Due to stock pump now going bad I’m glad I had bought a second Holley blue couple years ago and stashed it so I’m putting it to use.

    I am curious about this as my understanding is the after 21 psi the vp44 stops working. I have had experience with this. I was using an airdog 150 at the time and put a 30 psi spring in, and it started and ran great, but i stopped for fuel and i could not get the truck to restart at the gas station i had to disconnect the fuel line at the gas station and swap the spring back and it started right up. Does anyone know the limitations of these 44's? right now i run 21 psi at idle and hold strong at 18-20 while cruising on my 4gII 160 airdog.
