First put something to keep the door open a bit. Then put the spring, ofc the lid part on the groove it is supposed to be. Then start putting the lid hinge part by putting the tap on place through the center of the spring, then slid the other end of the spring on the groove of the hinge. Then find the try to put the tap on the hole of the lid parts that has the big gear. When that is done just screw it. This method made this way easier and only thing that takes time is trying to find the tap hole. No more pinching the spring and try to fiddle it there for 5min with one move.
Thanks for this, every video skips the springs and this was helpful; I had no clue where the spring was integrated. That said I couldn't understand or see what the "slot" was. If anyone else is confused its a spot on the actual underside of the lid. I thought the lid was only relevant because of the gear teeth and the hole in it, but if you look on the top left corner of the lid (when facing it with the part that lifts closest to you) there's a curving line. On the left side there's a thin lane like a highway off ramp, that's where you're fitting the round part of the spring between. Once I understood that it was a cinch. I was able to do it from the side rather than the back and put the small gear in after it and adjust as, like he said, once the spring's connected you have a lot of flexibility. I'd also suggest waiting to put the fan screen back until after to avoid anything flukey.
The only clear video on the internet for those damn spring mechanisms, thank you!! Just finished cleaning a GameCube, friend's gonna be thrilled with this birthday gift!
Thanks for the tutorial, was transferring the top lid of my childhood Pokémon XD edition GameCube to a new shell and the spring mechanism was kicking my butt :p
I didn’t get anything from this, I can’t find one video where this is clearly displayed. The camera is far too zoomed out and you cover the mechanism with your hands.
@@slenderguy2342 I made the video from part of the footage from an entire refurb of a console, so I had to make do with the footage I had. It's an old video, I've gradually got better at showing the things people need to see
Thanks for the tear down talking about the lid. Was watching one and it was a good tear down. But completely ignored the lid getting reassembled. It was just… done. And I was stuck on the lifter spring.. 🫣
Hi thanks your video helped learn how to take apart the top lid on the nintendo game cube nintendo always like to put game bits Philips screws tri wing screws and springs in thier systems
Hey Joe thanks for the video. My gamecube doesn't have one of the springs(the lid), do you know the name or where I can get one of those? thanks in advance.
Got a GameCube with a broken lid. You hit the eject button and just take the entire lid off to insert a game. What's needed to fix or just do a shell swap?
Nu eject button got lost. Nothing is broeken just the button itself is missing, do u know hoe to het ahold on 1 of them ? Any company that Sells them ? @joebleebs
This clip is taken from a full restoration video I did, if you take a look at that you should be able to see how I fitted the handle too. th-cam.com/video/Rvo7qnDhdpY/w-d-xo.html

Thank you! Very helpful
Thanks this was very helpful as all other teardowns never really discuss the lid. This was very detailed.
Thank you! I am glad it helped you
Thank you. Only place I could find that had a clear description on putting the hinge spring back in. Saved me so much frustration.

Lol I was doing this a few weeks ago and those springs are no joke it took a min for me to get them in the right spots
And what's worse they are so easy to remove! So I thought nothing of it until I came to put it back together 😂
yes finally found a video about this thank you so much
This video was a lifesaver. Thank you!
Brilliant to hear! Thanks for the feedback
Brilliant mate! Could not for the life of me figure out how that spring went back in (turns out I had it backwards)
It's very tricky! Glad I could help
The reset button has a spring too right?
Yeah but that's part of the switch assembly I think
Thanks u saved my ass with that spring in the lid.

Thanks for this! That little hinge piece is a bitch to put back in lol

Great video although you could’ve gone more in depth with the springs
Thanks, if I end up doing it again I'll consider that

Hi, aside from buying another gamecube, maybe a broken one, I'm not sure where you'd get that spring, sorry!

Shell swap would be the easiest way
Omg thank you !!
Always welcome!
I can never get the hinge to go on correctly. Wish you were more in depth or showed more footage of how you did it
How do you have your camera set up for the overview shot?
I made a bracket to suspend it from the ceiling of the shed! I'll send you some pics on Instagram
thank youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's around the 25 minute mark but it's quick! It basically slots in and then gets fixed in place with two screws
