    My pick is the Countdown in the smallest size the 25mm CD1 . I’ve caught Atlantic Salmon , Seatrout , Brown Trout and Rainbow. Little tip is remove split ring , use a fast link for quick changes , also double split ring on hooks 👌 Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪

    I didn't always catch fish when I went camping but I do now thanks to this channel, as soon as I changed to using a bumper of about 2-rod lengths and rapalas (jointed 7cm is my fav ) I am catching fish constantly, Last trip I had 20 plus brownies.

    I recommend using a barrel swivel attached to the split ring on the bill. You get the same action, but when you’re using 2-6 lb line you don’t have to worry about the edge of your split ring cutting the line. Up the line about 10 inches I use another barrel swivel for added action. No split shot should be needed. Like panther Martin spinners. A number 2 means 2lb line number 4 is 4lb line and so on so forth. Use the right diameter line with the right size lure and you cast like a dream.

    Countdown 5 or 7, brown trout color or rainbow trout for natural color. Also bright orange or blue if I want a bright not natural (depends on the day).
    I even use countdown in shallower water (instead of floating). Just retrieve them before they have a chance to sink. They weigh more and are easier to cast.

  • @leomortimer2565

    Great video! I love Rapala. For some reason, I find that the 1 1/2" rapalas have a tendency to tangle when casting so I've moved up to the 2" size in floater and sinking size. If it's windy, I find moving up to the 2 3/4" floater casts a little better. The sinking rapala are probably better in lake and rivers but I think for fishing streams and creeks of switching over to Rapala's ultra light minnow instead. I've been hearing good things about them. Their suppose to be slower sinking thus should help prevent snags.

    • @humblehombre9904
      @humblehombre9904 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little tip to prevent that tangle in all lures, is to slow the lure during cast just a foot or two before it lands, then the lure will be turned in the air so the knot is towards you. It straightens it.

    Was taught how to fish by my dad when I was 6 yo 43 years ago using only Rapalas. Absolutely love them. However, over the past 43 years I’ve never once caught a fish wet the jointed Rapala. Have no idea why, I’ve tried and tried but finally gave up a few years back.
    Favorite patterns here in Utah are Rainbow, Brown and Silver. Find a ton of success with both Floating and Countdowns.

    For me, I started using Rapalas for bass. My local pond was heavily pressured with everyone throwing soft plastics which the fish had come to recognize and generally avoid. Trying something different I found they loved the original floating Rapala. I used to turn up, catch 5 or 6 smallish bass and leave while everyone else throwing soft plastics hadn't gotten a single bite.

    When fishing in Rivers and Streams, the small Rapala that looks like a Rainbow trout works the best for me. But my go-to river and stream lure is the Mepps #2. Fishing the Chattahoochee, Mepps #2 is champ as far as my experience. When bank fishing on the Chattahoochee (where legal) using nightcrawlers are king. When wading and drift fishing (where legal) drifting red wigglers are King.

    I use a silver original floating minnow. I have caught a few trout off of it, but it absolutely slays bass and perch. I tie the line directly to the loop on the lure with a barrel swivel about 3 feet from it. I'm definitely going to give the countdown lure a try because the floating minnow can be a challenge to cast far out. Great video!!!

    The split ring actually interferes with the action on those floating units, especially the little ones. Also, where you tie onto the little solid eye makes a huge difference. If you slide yer knot on to the top of the loop, it will run the lure higher. Also you can adjust your knot to the left or the right to cause the lure to finesse to one side or tother. I would never add a split ring to a floating lure.

    • @ADITADDICTS

    I catch trout, bass, and bluegill with my Rapalas as well as rooster tails. The fish always bite on the rapalas in a lake, pond or stream. I don't see to many guys using them, mostly just worms and powerbait so I think it's a new presentation for the fish

    I use em.. I have solid red floating jointed type.. I've caught some nice ones. But the Rebel WEE-CRAW smashes them 👍

    Great video! You can skip the split ring, and tie a rapala knot tho. Less waste.

    Good vid. But bro, rule 101 dont tie directly to a split ring. Use a solid ring to tie to, then you can change out your lures easily and securely

    Need expert advice: for medium fast current in Boise River, knee deep water or less, what size Rapala should I use?

    Where I am in B.C. We are only allowed one, single barbless hook. Which location would you put the hook on, front or back? Would you consider a feather or blade for balance on the other , empty hook spot?

    split rings? Tie a loop knot. I always upgrade my hooks - get red nail polish and paint the belly hook....teeth and pliers wear it off but you can retouch it quickly

    Once a lure has been removed from the packaging, how do you tell just by looking if it will float or sink? My dad gave me a bunch. Thanks!

      Fill a kitchen or bathroom sink with some water and try them. Use a fine tipped permanent marker to write a small "F" for float or "S" for sink on each. Of course, remember almost any lure with a plastic "bill" or "beak" in front will sink.

      Hard to tell on the older ones. You can feel the subtle differences in weight in your hand if you take your time with it. The newer production has the model info printed on the underside of the lure body.

    Are the sinkers better for winter fishing? I heard the fish stay deeper in colder weather.

    Is it alright to use a snap on the end of your leader or even a snap swivel? Or do you recommend tieing the lure right to the leader? Just wonder because if you change out your lure enough during the day you’ll blow through leaders

    • @509Gman
      @509Gman 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The manufacturer recommends tying directly to the lure, but I haven’t noticed any detriment when using snaps.
