This is a great bass, trout, bluegill, crappie, and other fish. I started fishing this lure in 1980 ultralight 4lb Test Line just twitch let it set for a while then pull it let it rise to top. A friend caught a 12 pounder on this bait with the same setup on the same lake. He was lucky this was a snag-free pond. It took him an hour to land the bass. Your video made me order 8 of these 1 1/2 inch silver rapala. I like the F3 and got 2 of the 5F.
Lol sorry for costing you money! But yeah this is an absolute classic lure and it is fun for numerous species. Can't wait to toss it around more this year.
Small floating jerkbaits are incredibly productive for Smallies here in the Potomac watershed. I often will fish a section twice; once with this style bait, and a second time with the Ned to pick up what I missed on the first round.
@@FishAnything It can go either way on these rivers. There are a lot of small sections that can produce three on a moving bait (a jerk or a paddle) and one bonus fish on the Ned. Other times, I might get one or zero on the moving bait and get three or four on the Ned. Light level, water level, water temp, water clarity and mood are all factors. In my experience (at least in this watershed) a 2 - 3" jerk is basically the Ned of hardbaits. Combined, they will tell you what's up and what to throw in most river conditions. ;-)
On the 1st cast? Landed!! Pretty punkin seed! Got him out the grass WITH a toad!! Fun times! Another one! Dadgum as soon it hit the water that fella throttled that jerk! 4lb rest on ultra light tackle is always a fun challenge! Another one! Barely hooked and released himself! Nother one! Sketch cast landed a pretty gill!! 3 species with 1 bait! 2 misses and then another! Hooked and spit! Dink’s got to get caught too!! Site fishing is exciting! Hooked kind’ve in the mouth! Lil bass was feisty!! Old mans schedule!😂🤣...Hammered! RAIN! Past my bedtime! Great video! BABAAM!!
That bait was just irresistible! I was actually lucky enough the other day to find another rebel floating minnow jerkbait in the bins at Walmart and would love to send it to you if possible. I remember on your live stream you mentioned you had never seen or found one in the stores.
Feel free to DM me on Instagram if you want to! Otherwise, no worries, I can totally buy my own. What would make me even happier is if you go smash a toad on it! :)
Old man 'stash fishing the little Rapala. Very underrated for multi species, introduce newer anglers and BOOM 💥!! Mind blown. I have a few in my wading vest for the morning. Glad I found this video Ethan, great reminder. Mini Raps, Rebel minnow and fat raps absolutely slay the fish.
I love fishing those floating rapala's! I normally use the size 7 but since watching your ultralight videos, I'm downsizing to the size 5 and size 3. I'm hoping they cast well on my ultralight setup. I'm thinking about trying those storm suspending dots & strips on these smaller floaters to try and turn them into suspending jerkbaits. Or at least have them raise/float slower to the surface.
Love it, Leo! Yeah, most of the Rapalas cast just fine on ultralight. Another one to look into is the little Countdown if you fish deeper water and want to get more depth.
Those are fun I bought a guy tackle he had about 6 boxes of lures then in one the whole 3000 size was these I have tried very fun to fish with all the lures in the boxes were real name brands it was a steal
This channel is great and it is underrated. Im soon buying a 7' rod for saltwater fishing with small jerkbaits. I am a saltwater fisherman but I enjoy watching your videos!
I go fish for bass using 4lb test on a FTO ultralight rod. Last week I managed to last a 3lb bass on it. Lots of fun. I even manage to haul one after it went into the weeds under my kayak.
I have a hard time getting my 2.5 rap minnow down more than several inches into the column. Does different line type/size aid in getting it deeper? Also, the split ring on the line tie often "folds" onto the bait and fouls up the retrieve. I'm thinking of removing the split ring and tying a loop knot directly to the line tie. Thoughts?
A loop knot instead of the split ring will work just fine! And line choice can certainly make a difference. Lower diameter lines will be a great way to encourage a bit more depth
All I use these days is a rapala original. Normally a j11 and going for bigger fish. Pickerel are common I my area and you don't need a leader with a j11 or j13. It's great, plus the big bass 7lbers, lots of fun!
@@FishAnything hell yeah man just today I caught a white perch, which I did not even know existed in our local reservoir. Which my family has been fishing for 50 years. I got it on gopro. Turns out it would have beaten the state record for NJ that was set in 1989. That was the best fighting fish I have ever caught. And being someone who has caught multiple 28inch pickerel, and 8lb bass, that says something. Crazy that they hid for that long.
Bass master, dink master and toad master!! Great evening trip fishing that little Rapala. I used to fish those all the time in my youth. Cool caching bass, pumpkins and bluegill on it. Unbelievable that that one bluegill hit it. What was he thinking!?!? 🐳
Welcome to Lake Ronald McDonald -- billions and billions of quarter-pounders served. I love twitching a little Rapala on the surface. Not as much commotion as a lot of topwaters, which the bass seem to prefer at times. If I were you, I'd ditch the 4-pound mono and use 10-pound braid in those weed-choked places. It fishes the same but holds up a lot better. You don't lose lures, and the bigger fish don't end up swimming around with your hardware stuck in their faces. BTW, you need to keep the 'stache. Very dashing. Another great vidya.
Thanks Jim! Yeah I only used the 4# mono because I find it fun to fish with. That said, I totally agree that some braid would be better for this pond. And I am glad you like the stache haha I love it too XD now if only the lady would like it!
Dude, you are brave grabbing the fish like that! I am a gold member at Weanie Hut Jr.'s when it comes to grabbing fish off of lures with trebles. I'd blame it on the fact that I use my hands at work A LOT, but at the end of the day, I just do not want a treble hook in my hand. lol
You would probably also like the Rebel Minnows (1.5inch) granted they don't have the same smooth action as the Raps but for $3 it's hard to complain. Raps and Rebs are generally my go to for suspending minnows. Great vid btw! Got yourself a new subscriber lol
Hey, Dink Master, I've caught bass barely the size of the lure and I was fishing with a Rapala 2" silver floating minnow. My favorite lure. XD It was so cute seeing this tiny thing hanging by the back hook! I swear I wanted to kiss him! He had such big dreams! XD
I would never hold fish with bare hands, I'm too afraid of getting my hands pierced. :D I will never be a professional cause im afraid of getting bacteria into my bloodstream lol. Respect to you outdoorsman!!!
I believe in you - the trick is handling the fish with care but at the same time taking charge. If you are scared to grab the fish, you will likely make the problem worse than it needs to be because you will not grab hard enough and the fish will squirm. You can do it :)
“I don’t care that he’s small,” he says, pulling strings of algae off a bass that I would’ve considered pretty average. Just goes to show what kind of a fisherman I am (a bad one).

Thank you for your retrieve suggestion, I mostly use spinners for trout, but there's big bass near me
Do you put a weight bullet to this setup or no?
Got that young Tom Selleck vibe going with the stache,Dinkum P.I.

So hard to beat the time-tested original!
I am literally building a 7' Light casting rod for this exact type of lure. Love the video!
Heck yes! That is dope - probably will be about like my Shimano Sensilite
@@FishAnything Yes! That's the exact rod I'm trying to mimic. I was unable to find one in stock and I like to build rods, so here we are!
love that your fishing with a classic lure , really like those lite power rods for bass fishing those fenwicks are great rods.
Darn right! Stay tuned for some more classic lures :)
Eye opener, those Finn's make great fishing gear and what fun on light tackle!
Haha heck yeah! Fun little lure right there!
I love fishing the little tiny snapbean style cranks for pan fish.
I have been wanting to use those! Thanks for the reminder :)

Gotta love finding old school lures cheap! I used to go to garage sales looking specifically for old tackle boxes.
Man you make this look so easy and fun at the same time
On this particular day, it definitely wasn't hard! And when you catch them on these little baits, you will have fun too :)

I love those rapalas in creeks and where did you buy the fenwick eagle light action
I got it from a warranty claim but you can get it here: amzn.to/3ieiqdK
I think my microfishing box has a couple of those in there. Often overlooked for sure. Great lure but I cant say ive tried it for Bass Fishing.
They have been super fun to fish lately. Definitely recommend!
My all time fav is the black and gold!!
I agree. That color pretty much never fails!
Another great video!!!!

New trout guy here. Just bought this lure, how would you fish it for trout in rivers?
I like to cast it at an angle upstream and twitch it back along undercut banks and cover with the current. Big trout will smash them!
That size of floating jerkbaits is perfect for gar in shallow creeks!!!
Gar? Heck yesss I need some of them in my life.
Nice! The original rapala floating jerkbait seems to be better than the jointed rapala. Great vid!
I agree! I love the Original!

Hahaha Weenie Hut Jr.'s I forgot all about that Spongebob epi
How long can you throw that little light bait ?
I can throw my 5 cm floating rapalas around 72 feet.
Not sure how far exactly! But I can whip it out there pretty far :)
Do you add any weight bullet with this setup?
Nailed seven largies and one pumpkin yesterday with this lure perch pattern not big ones either
Lots of fun! Nice work 👏🏽
Ao old man schedule!!! I def was to get some smaller lures. Rattle trap etc
I am an 80 year old in a 27 year old man's body lol
And heck yeah, the small stuff is so fun to fish with!
If I get stuck by my own hook I shrug it off as poetic justice for all the lip piercings. XD Fish manages to bite me I say good for you.
I’ve got some Rapala mini fat raps to go and fish with now that you’ve inspired me.
Epic little crankbaits! I have some old school rapalas and storm wee warts I want to try soon.
Perch love this lure.

what bait are you using? is it the rapala f7 original floating?
I believe that’s the one!
dude, the mustache! you look like a major league baseball player from 1981
Or 1881.
Hahaha I love it! IT IS HERE TO STAY! That is... Until Jocelyn tells me I have to shave it XD

Yeah buddy!

Yeah I have a few ready to try in a video this summer :) stay tuned!
Why is this not popular for bass like you said in video seems effective?
I’m sure that floating jerkbaits will make a comeback! Not sure why they’re not very popular these days 🤷🏼♂️
